A military court has sentenced the soldier responsible for Rinji’s killing to death by hanging or lethal injection, bringing an emotional end to a case that many feared would never see justice.

Rinji, an unarmed and innocent young man, was shot dead by a security operative in 2020. His tragic death led to days of public uproar, online campaigns, and the viral call for #JusticeForRinji, as Nigerians demanded accountability and an end to extrajudicial killings.

A deadly communal clash between two neighbouring communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State has escalated into a full-blown tragedy, leaving at least 10 women dead and more than 20 others severely injured after soldiers allegedly opened fire on protesting residents.

According to eyewitness accounts, the conflict began in the early hours of the morning when one of the communities reportedly launched an attack on two villages, burning houses and killing several people. In retaliation, youths from the affected villages mobilised later that afternoon and struck back.

Residents lamented that throughout the violent exchanges, neither the Nigerian Army nor the police responded, despite repeated distress calls.

Shockingly, security operatives allegedly arrived only after the clashes had completely subsided—and immediately imposed a curfew. This move reportedly sparked outrage among local women, who accused the military of taking sides and failing to protect innocent civilians.

The peaceful protest by the women quickly turned disastrous. Witnesses say soldiers opened live fire on the unarmed demonstrators, killing four women on the spot, while six others succumbed to gunshot injuries either on their way to the hospital or during treatment.

More than twenty additional victims are currently battling various degrees of bullet wounds.

Community members are now calling for a full investigation, demanding accountability and justice for the slain women.

“This was avoidable. These were mothers, sisters, daughters. We will not keep quiet,” one resident said.

The community is urging journalists, human rights groups, and national authorities to step in, insisting that justice must prevail.

The project, a visionary public-private partnership (PPP) initially launched in 2014 to commemorate Nigeria’s centenary, has secured a monumental N750 billion contract with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the country’s leading construction firm, to deliver critical infrastructure for the first phase of this futuristic smart city.

Centenary City, a sprawling 1,260-hectare master-planned development located just southwest of Abuja and five kilometers from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, is designed to rival global urban hubs like Dubai, Monaco, and Singapore. Overseen by Centenary City FZE, the project aims to create a state-of-the-art, private sector-driven trade and investment hub that promises to redefine luxury, innovation, and urban living in Nigeria. Launched in 2014 under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan with an initial capital investment of N18.6 billion, Centenary City faced significant challenges that stalled its progress. These included revoked land rights, certificate withdrawals, and calls for investigations, which collectively delayed the project for over a decade. Despite these setbacks, the renewed commitment from stakeholders and the Federal Government has breathed new life into the initiative, with the N750 billion contract marking a turning point.

The project’s resumption reflects a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to overcome past hurdles and deliver a transformative urban development. Centenary City is expected to attract significant local and international investment, create thousands of jobs, and boost Nigeria’s tourism and real estate sectors.

Spanning 1,260 hectares of virgin land, Centenary City is designed to be a self-contained urban ecosystem. The development will feature residential estates, commercial districts, cutting-edge technology hubs, recreational facilities, and sustainable infrastructure. The Nigerian Navy has uncovered and dismantled an illegal refinery in Gbaramatu Delta State as part of its ongoing Operation Delta Sanity
.On Tuesday, 15 April, personnel aboard Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta located the illicit site in Yeye Creek, Gbaramatu, Warri South Local Government Area.


According to a statement shared on the Navy’s official Facebook channel, the facility contained 15 pits filled with stolen crude oil and large quantities of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

The Navy’s post emphasized its commitment to curbing crude oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta region, noting that such operations undermine national economic security.
The discovery has sparked criticism on social media, with some users questioning the effectiveness of private security firms contracted to safeguard oil infrastructure. One viral comment referenced Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a firm reportedly receiving substantial government funding to protect pipelines.

“This is the home of the Tantita boss who receive 4 Billion Naira every month from the Federal Government to protect pipeline and stop crude oil bunkering. It’s a shame, the contract should be revoked since he has failed”
Others called for a more inclusive approach to tackling illegal refining, suggesting that former operators be engaged in formal employment initiatives to reduce economic desperation that fuels such activities.

The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted allegations made by the former Head of Service of the State, Dr. George Nwaeke, during a press briefing aired on Channels Television on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Dr. Nwaeke in the briefing alleged that he was present when Mr. Fubara handed money to his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie and the former Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA, Chijioke Ihunwo to burn the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

Mr. Fubara in a statement he signed on Saturday described Nwaeke’s claims as baseless and aimed at misleading the public.

He expressed dismay over Nwaeke’s assertions, particularly the claim that the he was involved in political discussions to support Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid.

He dismissed the notion that Nwaeke, as a former Head of Service, would have been privy to any high-level political meetings, emphasizing that no such meetings took place, contrary to Nwaeke’s allegations.

“The whole world was aware when the Bauchi State Governor, as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, visited Rivers State. There was nothing secret about those visits,” Fubara clarified.

Furthermore, the governor denounced claims that he orchestrated meetings to encourage attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the state.

He described the allegations as not only false but also an attempt to tarnish his image and destabilize the peace process by President Bola Tinubi in the state.

Mr. Fubara restated his commitment to peace and security, stating, “I have always preached peace in Rivers State, even in the face of obvious provocations.”

He accused Dr. Nwaeke of being compromised, alleging that he was either coerced or financially induced to make false claims against him.

“I urge all well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard everything said by Dr. Nwaeke. His statements are nothing but desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration."

Video Emerges of Nwaeke’s Wife Raising Alarm
In a new twist to the controversy, a video surfaced showing Florence Nwaeke, the wife of the former Head of Service, tearfully calling Governor Fubara via WhatsApp, expressing fears that her husband may have been kidnapped.

In the video, she alleged that Dr. Nwaeke resigned because he refused to sign documents against the Mr. Fubara.

Following the video, Channels Television crew visited the official residence of the former Head of Service on Olumeni Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, where Florence Nwaeke maintained that her husband had been pressured to make his statements under duress.

She revealed that her husband had confided in her about being coerced into signing a document that accused suspended Governor Fubara of failing to declare N15 billion in his handover notes after the state of emergency was declared.

She further explained that her husband had traveled to Abuja on a paid ticket on Friday and had communicated with her upon arrival.

However, she was shocked to see him speaking on Channels Television at 10 PM that same day.

Since then, she has been unable to reach him, as both of his phone lines have been switched off.

Allegations of Financial Inducement
Supporters of the suspended Governor Fubara believe that Dr. Nwaeke may have been financially induced to make the allegations.

They argue that the claims against Fubara and his close allies, including his Chief of Staff Edison Ehie and former Obio/Akpor LGA Chairman Chijioke Ihunwo, are unfounded and politically motivated.

The screenshot messages, reportedly exchanged in the days leading up to Nwaeke’s controversial media appearance, paint a picture of a man seeking psychological support and financial assistance.

In one of the messages, Dr. Nwaeke apologized for failing to call earlier, citing that he was in an 'uncomfortable environment' and was leaving his house early.


In another message, Nwaeke expressed frustration over financial difficulties, stating, “My take-home monthly is less than N500k, and it does not reach anywhere, not even enough to take care of the political dependants talk alone other encumbrances.”

Nwaeke also pleaded for assistance, saying, “I really need the necessary assistance and psychological support at this time,” and “I hope I have not been forgotten.”
