he Lagos State Government on Friday said two persons out of those who had contacts with Mr. Patrick Sawyer, the dead Liberian Ebola victim, had manifested symptoms of fever. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, made the disclosure when he addressed newsmen on the update of the country‘s first Ebola case in Ikeja. Idris said the two persons were among the 70 contacts being monitored and investigated for any symptoms of the disease by the state government and other partners. The commissioner, who said the two cases were under observation, however stressed that they did not test positive to the virus. Idris said the state government would continue to monitor all contacts with the victims until the end of the 21 incubation day period of the virus. “Our Rapid Response Team is currently tracking all contacts of persons exposed to the dead passenger with Ebola virus. “The contract tracing team is following 70 contacts of the EVD case and linking them to clinical support when needed. “Two suspect cases had fever, they are under observation and so far have tested negative to the virus. “The monitoring of suspect cases will continue until the end of the period of 21 days from their exposure to the victim,’’ he said. The commissioner said an emergency operation centre had been activated in Lagos ,by the state and its partners as part of efforts to check the threat of the virus. He added that the Federal Government had stepped up measures to screen incoming passengers to Nigeria to identify any traveler with symptoms through, airport, seaport and border crossing. Idris said a deceased body was recently brought to Nigeria from Liberia, explaining that the government was investigating if he died from Ebola. The commissioner urged residents to collaborate with government in checking the Ebola threat in the country by reporting suspected case for government‘s intervention. While saying diseases thrived well in dirty environments, Idris urged residents to maintain clean body and environment to reduce the risk of the virus. Also speaking. Prof. Abdul Salim Nasidi of the National Disease Control Centre said noted that though disease had no cure ,it was treatable. He warned members of the public against emphasizing that the virus had not cure, saying it might discourage those with suspected cases from accessing treatment. While saying the Federal Government was doing everything to check the threat of the disease,Nasidi urged citizens not to panic as no fresh case had been discovered yet in the country |

A LETTER FROM AN ABORTED CHILD Dear Mum, I have decided to talk to you, to let you know my feelings. I want to know why you did it. My story is short. I have stayed inside you for only three months. I was very comfortable and warm. I felt really protected. I know you are a special person because I ate the food you ate. I longed for the day I would see your face. Nine months was a long time to wait, but I was determined to wait. I had to be patient. One day I heard you converse with a man about me, and at some stage you quarreled. The man then offered you some money to get rid of me. I was happy and prayed that this meant that I would at least see you, the only person that I knew in the world: I was wrong. I had almost forgotten the issues until I felt something sharp pierce my tiny ear. I jerked silently and in pain, and asked you to protect me. Seconds later the object came, fiercer than before. My tiny body was cut up, starting from the ears then arms and legs. It was an agonizing experience, my head was then cut off and I died. It took me a whole hour to die, a whole hour for an innocent three months human being to be murdered. I remember the whole incidence vividly and I keep asking myself, what I did to deserve that cruel death? Why me? Why did you do it to me? And why was I not given a chance to live? I know you are having a lot of nightmares. You remain guilty for the beastly act. Please explain to your God why you committed the heinous act. Personally I have forgiven you though I never lived to see your face. My journey to back to my creator was safe and I arrived safely. I was given a red carpet welcome by an angel. I am infact, without bitterness. I still love you mum; you are the only one I knew. I remain yours; the one you unjustifiably expelled. SAY NO TO ABORTION. |

Every woman dreams of finding that perfect man, but the trouble is turning those dreams into reality. There is no perfect way to guarantee that you will find him, but there are steps that you can take to greatly improve your chances. Keep reading to find out what you can do to find the man of your dreams. 1) Understand yourself. Know your own real needs and distinguish them from other people’s expectations. Be honest with yourself about your faults, you need to meet someone who will find your faults minor and forgivable but prize your strengths. Sometimes they’re the same thing – a determined go-getter can be described as stubborn by someone who doesn’t like her. Try turning every criticism anyone ever gave you inside out, find the compliment version and ask if it’s true. 2) Don’t expect perfection. Admit it; you’re not perfect. No one is. If you’re looking for a 100% perfect man, you will never find him. So be quick to forgive those little mistakes or annoying habits that don’t really matter, and hopefully he will overlook your imperfections too. Understand what types of annoying habits rile you so much they’re a deal-breaker and be up front about those, as well as those you don’t think of as a big deal. If you can’t stand a forgetful man, you may have to bend on something else to find one who never forgets an anniversary or errand. 3) Be the person you want to marry. What kind of person are you attracted too? What kinds of traits does he have to have? In order to attract the kind of person you like, you have to have those traits too. Also look at traits that are complementary – if you’re very domestic, you may be happier with a man who doesn’t putter in your kitchen but never gripes about mowing the lawn or cleaning the gutters. 4) Be active. Find a hobby or two. Whether you like to play sports, paint, play a musical instrument, or go clubbing at night, surrounding yourself with people of your same interests will increase your chances of meeting the man of your dreams while having fun at the same time. Don’t think you have any hobbies? Try something creative, you may have unexpected talents and discover it’s fun. Go out and volunteer in your community. 5) Making good first impressions are important. You don’t have to be the most fashionable person, but you do need to keep your appearance neat and clean or seek someone equally casual. Also, be friendly. Be the one who initiates a conversation. Smile at everyone. If you like to be listened to, find a shy man who likes to listen. 6) The way you dress is very important in a first impression. It can really determine what kind of guys you attract. If you dress in a way that is in your comfort zone, you will probably attract a good and commitment-making guy. If you dress out of your comfort zone you might be seen as timid or nervous. If you dress to express a subculture like Goth or medieval recreation or something, you’ll stand a better chance of finding someone within that subculture but it may put off mainstream guys. Artists are often attracted to women with paint in their hair, mainstream guys might not be. 7) Be real. Don’t try to be someone you’re not, or you may get typecast in a narrow role that doesn’t include all that you are. If you’re normally casual and dress to the nines whenever you meet him, he may reasonably expect you to dress like that all the time and be disappointed once you’re together. If you pretend you don’t like books and hook up with him, you may wind up spending the rest of your life having an argument every time you want to order from Amazon

17 Fake NYSC Members Arrested: 9 Males, 8 Females. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested total of Seventeen fake members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). They were rounded up and arrested at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, on Thursday evening while they were posing and taking pictures outside the camp during the passing-out ceremony. The ICPC, in a statement, said its operatives stormed the camp based on intelligence reports and arrested the suspects comprising eight females and nine males. It said preliminary investigation revealed that 15 of the suspects claimed to have enrolled in degree courses run by consultancy services in the University of Calabar (6), University of Jos (6), Ebonyi State University (1), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (1) and Crown Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti (1). Another suspect, a young man, impersonated his sister, a genuine corps member who was receiving medical treatment abroad, in order to collect her discharge certificate. One of the fake corps members, the commission noted, never attended any university, but said she wanted to get an NYSC discharge certificate. Employers, parents and guardians have thus been warned to confirm from the NYSC if they were suspicious of any person submitting call-up letters, posting letters, discharged and exemption certificates.

Exposed: The Woman Who Lead The Terrorist Attack In Kenya Samantha Lawthwaite is the wife of the late Jermaine Lindsay, a terrorist who was one of the four people that killed 52 people in a series of well co-ordinated suicide attacks in parts of London, using the public transport system during the morning rush hour in 2005. Now she’s taken over from her husband. Samantha is said to be the leader of the deadly Islamic terrorist that attacked the Westgate mall in Nairobi Kenya on Saturday, where many have lost their lives. This British-born Islamic terrorist lady has been on security watch but continue to operate. Now the question being asked by security watchers is: Could it be that the “White Widow”, Samantha Lewthwaite, has been killed during rescue efforts by Kenyan forces at the Westgate mall? Before the soldiers took over the mall, it was gathered that a white woman wearing a veil was giving orders to gunmen in Arabic during the bloody massacre inside the shopping mall. Sources say Samantha may have been killed as a dead white woman was found among the Islamic terrorists killed by soldiers as they re-captured the Westgate mall on Monday evening. But Al-Shabaab, the Islamic terrorist group, has praised Samantha’s effort and claimed that she is still alive

Here Are The Richest and Most Powerful Babes In Nollywood Four elements contribute to the success of a movie at the box-office. They include good script, experienced director, professional publicist, and most importantly, the big name stars. Of all the four, there is one a producer should never violate at the market place and that is the ‘star’ aspect of it. There could be a bad script, inexperienced director and not too good publicity for the movie but it is almost impossible to have Return On Investment (ROI) with un-bankable stars. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde: On the list is Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde with box-office gross of N60 million. She made N24 million with Last Flight to Abuja, N6 million from Private Storm and her N30 million share in Ije bring her total earning to N60 million. This year alone, no actress has made as much as N24 million from a single movie; Funke Akindele would have done so with The Return of Jenifa but the movie hit the box office in 2011. Omotola, who was reported to have been paid N5 million by Tarila Thompson all in the bid to make his movie a blockbuster, has been described as the biggest box office actress of 2012. She recorded successes back to back but it remains to be seen if she can pull off the box office magic again with Amina and other movies coming in 2013. Omotola has been an A-list actress even before Genevieve got her first big break and so what has been working for her is the wise investment in her brand. Her enduring presence and unceasing contact with her fans via the social media has made her popular even in an environment where a mother of four like her is not fashionable. Genevieve Nnaji: Next is Genevieve Nnaji. Love or hate her, Genny as she is fondly called, has a way with cinema audiences that make them come back again and again for her movies. So far, Genevieve’s starring in the movies has grossed over N83 million at the box office. Mirror Boy (described by the actress as her first major film and the first to put her at the box-office) made N18 million, while Ije netted N60 million turning out to be Nigeria’s highest grossing movie ever. But Genevieve had to share the money with Omotola, who also acted alongside her. If the sharing formula is 50-50, then Genevieve gets N30 million of the total gross. Genevieve’s next movie, Tango with Me went on to make N35 million. So, putting all the figures together, Genny remains at the head of the pack. What seem to be working for Genevieve are her enduring power, popularity and social media connection. The actress has been there for over a decade and is still waxing stronger. Her wine seems to taste better with age. Another plus for Genny is her popularity. Genevieve is hugely popular across Africa and most especially among the youths. Before now, she has been very active on the social media especially Twitter. She even had to put up a Facebook advert after reports emerged that some acts were ahead of her there. Funke Akindele: Surprisingly, the third person on the list is Funke Akindele, a young lady who rose to fame in I Need To Know, a TV series, and went on to earn a monstrous fame with Jenifa. Funke is an unlikely candidate on this list. Now, how can one explain that she is third on a list parading heavy weights like Omoni Oboli, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Stephanie Okereke among others? So far, Funke has made over N56 million, netting over N20 million in 2012 alone. In The Return of Jenifa, Funke netted N35 million. The movie ran till February 2012. Her movie, Married but Living Single made N9.9 million while Maami made N11 million. The actress is on her way to another cinema glory with a movie, A Wish. Let’s hope she will be able to wave the magical wand again and create a box-office success. For Funke who recently got married, the plus factor for her is her huge popularity among the masses and elites. Her movie, Jenifa cuts across all social groups with the street parlance in it becoming the mode of communication in social gathering. And as an icing on the cake, Funke has moved upscale, she is now the toast of events organized by the rich and not so rich. Her box office credibility transcends the cinema as all DVDs parading her face turn into gold. Omoni Oboli: Omoni Oboli, who is still largely unknown to those who don’t patronise the cinema and social media, is fourth on the list. She is a silent achiever. Before the trio of Genevieve, Omotola and Funke even dreamt of hitting the box office, Omoni Oboli already took the lead. Figurine, her first box office appearance made N13 million while her second effort, Anchor Baby made N18 million bringing her total earning to N31million. Omoni’s strength is her exclusivity and knack for quality. It is a known fact that if the project is not big and ambitious, Omoni might not do it. The disadvantage of that is, despite her box office credibility, Omoni is still unknown in areas where there is no access to cinemas. Perhaps, that is the reason she tries to make up with the red carpet presence. For now, the exclusivity is working for Omoni; perhaps her new movie, Broken and other works will introduce a new twist. One other thing that should not be forgotten is the unprecedented publicity of Anchor Baby in 2010. The film also had Omoni at the forefront of meeting and greeting of fans at the cinemas. Nse Ikpe-Etim: The fifth slot belongs to Nse Ikpe-Etim. She seems to be the latest sensation in big budget movies. In Mr and Mrs, Nse was a delight, her performance was a reference point and it was a hook that kept drawing people to the cinema while the movie was there. Mr and Mrs made N6 million while another of her film, Phone Swap made N20 million, making a total of N26 million. Too early for Nse to cement her place, as she hasn’t done N15 million back-to-back but one thing the actress has made clear is that she has intention of doing that. The leading four acts should be afraid of Nse because her strength lies in her pure acting talent. Nse is born to act, deemed to be unnecessarily assertive a times, but you can’t accuse her of not knowing her lines. And she pushes her movies with virgour, moving from one cinema to the other. However, Nse should watch it as many have accused her of being too ‘self-conscious’, a term casually used for budding stars who have ‘over-hyped’ impression of themselves as this could alienate fans who make the box-office count. Rita Dominic and Stephanie Okereke Rita Dominic and Stephanie Okereke should readily make the list but they haven’t appeared at the cinemas more than once. Hopefully, Rita will break into the list with The Meeting, Lion of 76 and Street of Calabar while Stephanie already had N10 million under her belt with Through the Glass. Of course, there are exceptions to the rules. A bankable star makes easier the job of a producer; the absence of one, however, is not a ready-made doom for a movie as Avatar and Slumdog Millionaire (both global box office hits) have shown. But if one would take a risk or err, it’s better to err on the part of caution. Wikipedia defines a bankable star to be an actor famous or charismatic enough to be “capable of guaranteeing box-office success simply by showing up in a movie”. It is common knowledge that a Will Smith will sell any movie no matter how bad as long as he has his face on the jacket. In Nigeria, some movie stars have proven again and again that they can guarantee return on investment as long as their faces adorn the poster. They are Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Genevieve Nnaji, Omoni Oboli, Funke Akindele and Nse Ikpe-Etim. |

My Kidnappers Gave Me N200, Nigeria Police Didn’t Rescue Me ––Bishop Kattey Archbishop of Niger Delta Province of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Ignatius Kattey, has accused the Nigeria Police of lying over their claim that they secured his release from the dare-devil kidnappers who had abducted him penultimate Friday. Briefing newsmen to share his 9 days experience in the den of kidnappers, Rev. Kattey thanked the Police for their efforts, but said that they were not the ones who rescued him. “The Police did not rescue me, neither were they the ones who rescued my wife, Beatrice. I saw the Police for the first time two days ago, after the incident. I heard the statements made by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO. The police are telling lies. If you cannot trust the Police, then who can you trust? I told the Commissioner of Police and he has apologised. “I know that they made efforts but they did not rescue us. A helicopter flew over the area more than 500 times, but the boys (kidnappers) were smarter. They held me in a thick forest and no one could see me there. “On the day of my release (September 14), the kidnappers moved me and we trekked a number of kilometres till we got to a road. Then they gave me N200 and ordered me to walk towards a direction where I would get a bike. We thank God for His mercies because I wouldn’t even wish my enemy to go through that experience,” he said Kattey, who is Dean of the Nigerian Anglican Communion, also said that he was not aware if any ransom was collected over his release, explaining that he was not tortured by his abductors. He added that: “From my experience, the abductors are hungry and in dire need of means of livelihood. Some are adequately educated but lack the enabling environment to positively express themselves. If government will give the people potable water, light and good roads, they will change. |
