My story is a long one and I’m grateful to Almighty Allah for the progress so far and his blessings on me and my fam.

The Beginning - I first heard about express entry in 2017, my boss got it, my colleague was about to get it then. I did some research and then decided I think I want this, an amazing life for me and my kids. I told my baby ( my then bf , now hubby).. he wasn’t interested then o, said you can make it in naija, kinikan kinikan , hmmm . I tried to convince him then, I just said let me start first . Started my WES October 2017, wrote my ielts a month after( passed in one sitting).

WES - Then I mistakenly or just mumuly decided to use nipost for WES just to buy time , maybe baby would agree, that’s how my village people caught up to me o and strike started . The up and down ehn , sorting people , spending money, Wes finally came through.

Work experience/CRS score - Then the wait for 3 years experience nko as I just wanted to use one workplace to claim points. Finally it was complete, then another wait for crs to drop to 441... oh I forgot, Passport expired in between all of the above (after ielts though)

Passport matter - Then the debate to wait and do court with change of name or just renew like that, by this time baby was already feeling the Canadian waka small small , he had gotten his Internationàl passport, even did ielts, he passed, but his score wasn’t up to mine(maxing out the ielts score )...

Single Or As a Couple ? - Back to me doing this alone at first. So I said babe let’s do court na and apply as a couple, baby was like no o, everything is a process, I must propose, then do intro, then court can follow, I said babe hmm adding spouse in between is one kind o. But I can’t propose to my self abi or do court with myself, i sha continued.

ITA - Well, ITA showed up, I didn’t have issues with POF ( used First bank treasury bills, stanbic fixed deposit , stanbic money market investment funds), Alhamdulillah... I sha chilled till July, so I can add my love in between, so it won’t be too early .

AOR - Hence my AOR July 1st, then the race began, constant profile checking, oh lest I forget , before this I met amazing people in our May ITA group , TEECAN , my brother Threemg(love you bro ), my sissy deesmama(AOR mate) and now close friend, we’re plenty small in that group and I hope our prayers would all be answered soonest.

I forgot to mention, baby proposed before I even got ITA, then we did a huge introduction ceremony and a small court wedding ceremony , all this while , my file was at Ottawa . Now it was time to add my hubby. Sent a mail, i got ADR, too many requests o, but we did it sha and submitted... they added my baby beginning of October or so..then I got IP2 some days after, Alhamdulillah, was so happy I buzzed deesmama straight that she should check her profile , she didn’t get that day, but got the next day and ppr the Monday afterwards... amazing period

The Wait - Then the wait started, where’s ppr nah, everyone was getting ppr up and down , but the thing didn’t reach me... hmmm...called an agent , the guy was super rude , was just using me to catch cruise...
I called like 2 weeks after again then I heard the dreaded news, file was at Accra, I cried ehn, didn’t believe my ears, I told my bro straight @threemg, he said I should not worry, meanwhile I ordered gcms notes, as the first one refused to come (ended up getting here later)...when it finally came all was passed but a section called « other Reqs » showed not started, the type of check was non compliance check, mogbe.. I researched, checked canada visa forum, nothing, my worry was now in full force...

Accra VO gang - Then I joined the Accra VO gang, I’m glad now that Accra VO is performing, there are rumors that they have a processing window of January till March, you might see a lot of PPRs from Accra this period.... I pray they extend this their window so at least they can attend to all, please release my people Abeg... . I Met a couple of friends and caring people in the group,I thought I was going to be depressed in the group, but the support was reassuring....anyways by this time I didn’t check nairaland again before I enter depression things.. @threemg added me to the group, then we all started surviving together...

Interview things - Fast forward to January 14th, request for interview , both me and spouse had to attend, we also had to come with all evidence of our relationship from the onset and they gave us just 2 weeks to prepare.. Ahhhh gbese, called hubby straight , called my bro @threemg... and as you’ve already guessed, I cried ehn, tears couldn’t stop flowing, so many regrets, but I never regretted ever adding my baby, most of the regrets was all around maybe waiting till IP2 or after PPr or adding more documents or something sha..

I must say this, I’m quite pessimistic as well, that didn’t help me in this journey at all...please let’s be optimistic in this journey o, very important Abeg.

My story is long abi, hmm it hasn’t finished o, keep reading...

Interview Prep- The documents gathering started, you know this modern day love na soft copies of pictures dey our phone, we used over 20k to print 200pictures... I went to airtel office for phone records between hubby and I, those ones used me to catch cruise too, said they could only give me 3 months worth of records, as a naija girl, i also applied at another office, so I could maybe get 6 months altogether, they caught me sha o ( but I still found a way out)... I took screenshots of our iMessage chats, we exported whatsapp chat, we printed hotel receipts of all our escapades, we printed pictures of gifts we ever gave each other that we snapped, what didn’t we get...hmm

The Interview ( Summary)

We took days off, we booked our flights, flew a day before , got in late at night to Accra, then we decided to eat something ( spaghetti and sauce), you see we thought it was familiar, what could be wrong right?.. well here goes, I couldn’t sleep well, I vomited the next morning, hubby was purging... ahh gbese...the devil can’t win naw, after we have come this far...

Meanwhile our Accra Gang they throway prayer for us, our interview gang too, my May ITA group too, my siblings, my friends.... their prayers were answered o .....

Interview went amazingly well... lady was nice, hmm... let me rest, would continue later...

Cont’d

Back to the matter!!

So we got to the embassy, right on time, they collected all phone, all wristwatches, most things sha, but I still went in with my bag after they searched thoroughly, we dropped our documents with the receptionists and held on to some other supporting docs. We could hear an interview going well, the lady ended up passing and was asked to either come the next day or submit her passports from Lagos. Kai we were happy for her o and gingered ....

At this time, just hubby and I were at the waiting room, we waited and waited o, they didn’t call us, I even dozed off small, finally after about 1hr 30mins of waiting... I was called, she apologized for the delay, such an amazing lady, she was nice as well... then the questions came o ( another story), highlight was that the interview was almost like a spousal sponsorship interview, i told her the truth, adding interesting information in between, she was just laughing, me sef laugh join...one thing was for sure I made sure all I said was the truth about our relationship, because hubby was next and our answers at least had to match small.....

The Verdict - Hubby’s turn, she asked almost the same things, it went well o.... then she asked hubby to call me, and then she told us the good news , that we passed , you need to see the way we jumped, then she said in that moment when I told you guys, I could see the love, mehn we beamed even more. She then asked when we were traveling, we said tonight, she said they can only stamp our passports and issue COPR tomorrow or we wait till we get back to lagos, hubby said when we get to lagos ..... sigh

Hmm, we sha told her thank you and left... I was happy and sad ( left to me , we go reschedule flight and collect our thing sharply next day), but hubby kept saying he had to go back, I cried and cried , kept wondering why he didn’t see the importance the way I did... hmmm... didn’t talk to him o... finally I couldn’t stand to see him feeling so bad, sha told him how I felt and we settled...

Off to lagos back, Shebi all is well that ends well, next day ppr mail entered, I was so freaking happy, called hubby straight, told my Accra and Interview gang, I sharply carry passport say make I go submit. Got to hubby’s car o, na so stomach pain start again( at this time I knew village people were really trying , but I also knew Allah was stronger than them)... hubby rushed me to the emergency room in the hospital o, took drip, hubby stayed with me for a while... then I went back home as I was cleared...

Then I submitted the next day...

I know my story is very long, I even missed out some part , so that people won’t get bored and to conceal my identity lol. This journey was something else...all my friends had gotten , people I put through, I knew the process to a large extent , why my journey was longer, I don’t know but I know Allah knows best ...

I didn’t call out advices, but I’m sure if you read my story well, you would have picked one or two...oh and if you find out you have an interview with your spouse due to addition or something, don’t be scared , you can also reach out to me...

I sincerely thank all my friends, my family, my newly made friends from whatsapp support groups, nairaland forum and friends made here.... without the support, I may have given up.

Now I pray for good health as we must get to our second country InshaAllah...

It ended in praise . Alhamdulillah!!!!!!!!!!!

is it compulsory that there would be an interview when adding spouse

You don't mix water and glucose for you student to train and then u ask them to do fasting blood sugar. Recording normal for hypoglycemic patient is death..

Same way u can't ask me to come and help u treat ur borehole water and help u mix drugs.. .

I don't know why it's difficult for people to understand
I ve answered that question its above.

That's great then but I think what NISLT needs to do is to make it an obligation that only her members are employed in these school lab (secondary and tertiary with regards to their specialty), science research labs, industrial labs based on NISLT Act of 2003 and make it great again but 60% of top shots in NISLT aren't even SLTs so taking that decision is almost near impossible
I quite appreciate ur response coz u sound so much like someone who knows so much abt slt.the nislt is politicised its jx of recent dt slt professional became top members before it ws mcb or bch personnel. about employment the fight is on.

laboratory posting in fields that concerns your option. this laboratory posting is usually done within the university in various relating department as far science is concerned

You know why I said so many SLT jobs are taken by non SLT professionals because SLT professionals are chasing shadows in MLS. These days you see as Microbiologist as a laboratory technologist even biochemistry now function as a biochemistry lab technologist (this is what is reigning self) and most SLT don't even renew their licence so one can't access their competencies in our school and industrial labs any longer
very well said thats the confusion in Nigeria there oda areas dunno y some sections still compare themselves to mls they can never be both courses re unique in its own areas. I can't expect ne working in a bank or ministry of works to renew my license this is nt jx an slt problem its everywhere they only renew when they re praticising thats what most professionals do.

Have been following this thread for a while now and it seems people don't understand that there's a big difference training curriculum of SLT and MLS.
1. A Med. Lab. Scientist would have gone though necessarily Human Anatomy as well as Physiology (200l) in which SLT wouldn't go through (chemistry, Environmental Biology, Physics, Biochemistry or industrial chemistry). Even BSc Biochemistry or Micro don't offer those courses.
2. A Med. Lab. Scienctist would have started handling Human samples of all the MLS disciplines at 300l (Histology, Med. Micro, Chemical Pathology and Haematology) which is aided by medical laboratory posting in a teaching hospital . Be mindful that this disciplines include advance Physiology, Anatomy, Microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology and at some extent molecular biology. SLT doesn't do this.
3. After 300l and 400l, the students are mandates to write a professional examination in all these deciplines will be monitored my Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (if you fail you repeat) . SLT doesn't do this neither do any basic medical science
4. At 500l there will there will be specialisation and training at the teaching hospital and other lectures at school
5. After graduation, theres a compulsory 1year internship which is another year of training in fact if you don't do well in ur internship you will be asked to repeat WITHOUT PAY. ONLY MLS AND MBBS does this (Nursing are just starting). SLT doesn't do this..

A student who did this successfully becomes a licensed Med lab scientist..

Hence it is wrong for someone who didn't undergo trainings like this to handle HUMAN SAMPLE which will be used for TREATMENT.
a simple mistake, a single unprofessionalism WILL be fatal
I agree with u in what u ve said bt please be corrected that slt does what we call laboratory posting too from 200-400 and also they commence internship with the 2017/18 session. tnks

Internship in the ministry of science and technology now. It would be great so we can have competent SLTs manning our school and industrial labs
there ve always been competent hands doing the jobs jx that every profession has it off side.the amount of practicals done in university is compared non I can only speak for uniben were I graduated from I had a whole semester of practical experience every session daily from 8am-2pm after then we take courses along side this ws done 200-400lvl. if u know your onion one should be competent.

slt has no business analysing human samples unless it has to do with mutation and it likes those grouded in biotechnology option can talk more in it.all those malaria hv bp n test similar are for mls pipo lets get that straight

oga leave this people! the real problem here is lack of proper orientation and career guidance. SLT/HND has its own purpose while Bmls has its own.
ure very correct Nigeria biggest problem is to appreciate division of labour as laboratory in hospitals is concerned slt can only prepare the reagents if need be while the mls wud do the analysis because they well grounded than slt personnel. it jx like the bad practice of doctors prescribing drugs at hospitals instead of pharmacist doing it.

SLT N MLS RE DIFFERENT
slt deal on both physical n life sciences while mls deal on medical sciences as it concerns analysis. mls shud nt ve issues with slt instead with anatomy n physiology coz thier analysis is quite similar though I stand to be corrected

Internship in where? When did NISLT become an organisation under the federal ministry of health?? You guys can encroach ehhhh. For your information NISLT is under the federal ministry of science and technology.

Only the federal ministry of health sponsor internship programs in hospitals in Nigeria.
if u read it properly I didn't say internship in hospitals its internship for all the various organs or options of slt as list before. Sometimes we need to read btw lines n understand. internship is not done only by medical oriented pipo all professional courses supposed to do it . First whats internship an idea of learning on the job to master ur skills in that profession. Please think before u talk n make use of ur eyes to read properly

In which hospital labs ?
Abeg this nslt post is misguiding to young aspiring students.
mind u the internship is well organised as nislt has a world class internship centre built in abj to kick start the exercise.
This argument of mls n slt is baseless they both different because slt knws some of mls doesn't mean they can do the work please slt shud ve guided on that m an sltite sometime the truth shud be said our wrk is basically laboratory, research and lecturing. but trust naija wit a degree u can work anywhere

Point of correction ; Chief Technologist is not equal to academic professor.

you re very correct they are not equal as prof is d highest position in academics so is chief technologist highest in scientists/technologists mind u I ve 100% confirmation that both salary re almost the same but with hazard allowance given to the chief technologist makes his earning higher than that of a prof am talking of basic salaries here not any side attractions.
note that technologists receive higher pay than lectures because of hazard allowance which academics don't benefit from
a graduate assistant takes 120k strt while a technologist 1 takes 160k (120k salary n 40k hazard)
hop this is helpful to those that needs it.
I won't fail to say mls is bigger than t doh both strtd d same time if u take note of when national assembly passed thier laws bt slt is been run by non professionals thats why it has not progressed to whr mls stands. am a proud sltite bt our nislt nid to filled with professionals

I do appreciate ur input it well thought of, u just mix it up at a point, am also happy u are aware that SLT runs a multipurpose laboratory, underline d word multipurpose (medical/ clinical) inclusive, also note dt medical is a branch in science, by implications medical laboratory is a branch in science laboratory. However, d medical laboratory are referred to as scientists while d SLT are referred to as chartered scientists/technologists, all we are saying is dt it is not all SLT graduate dt are interested in d medical/ clinical aspect of d profession but any SLT graduate dt is interested should not be discouraged but allow to practice, all profession are upgrading in practice, training, curriculum, etc name it, come to think of it when did mls started internship? When did mls started CPD? When did mls stopped their conversion programs? In every aspect we are all improving, solely we know dt mls only area of practice is d medical or Clinical whereas d SLT graduate can chose to go out in the clinical area that is why SLT practice or run multipurpose laboratory. Thank u and good to know that a lot of federal sensitive documents published allows SLT and mls to work in d same govt. Hospital labs with same entry point from grade level 8 - 15, though mls have a new one and SLT will soon have hers. Point of correction and I also stand to be corrected on this too the registrar of mlscn is not prof. Anthony Emeribe but a Ag Tosan, mls has acting registrar in d person of mr Tosan I do not know if of recent mls now have substantive registrar now. Thanks for d information... This is why we said SLT should study their ACT, when uu were in SLT u refused to study ur ACT now that u are in mls u now study but SLT ACT and mls ACT. Thanks once more good information

The fact dt SLT is run in polytechnic and mls is not has not made SLT any inferior but mls I believe offer equivalent of ND/ HND which I believe are d equivalent of mls technicians / mls assistant, polytechnic run all their program from ND to HND is 5yrs sir, while the universities is 5yrs plus NYSC which is total 6yrs, pls note mlscn decided to make theirs 7yrs with internship because they were in fighting with medical doctors so they decided to upgrade for them to be respected that their certificate also takes this long to be earned like d doctors, all d recent changes in mls sir is as a result of being looked down within d health sector by other health professionals leads to mls fast and proactive growth, mind u SLT have its own policies and we run at our own pace but as chartered scientists we will get there.... Note that the fact that u spend 7yrs to get mlscn license and SLT 6yrs has not made SLT not to be chartered scientists while mls just scientists. Ours is in d quality of our trainings. Thanks

nice write up
I wanted u to add to it that come 2017/2018 graduates of slt will begin internship this has been passed by nislt council members great strides
