A talented Nigerian TikToker and dancer has captured hearts online with her inspiring approach to teaching visually impaired students how to dance.

In a video she shared, she is seen demonstrating a dance move to one of her students. Using a combination of verbal instructions and physical guidance, she patiently and skillfully helps the student grasp the movement. Her dedication and unique teaching techniques pay off, as the student is later seen executing the dance move just as she taught.

PoliticsRe: Creation Of 31 New States: Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Arewa Speak by ScarletBrace(m): 4:15pm On Feb 07, 2025
Great100000:
A fresh proposal by the House of Representatives Constitution Review Committee to create 31 additional states in Nigeria has triggered strong reactions from prominent individuals and socio-political groups across the country.

The proposal, which would increase Nigeria’s current 36 states to 67, was contained in a letter read during Thursday’s plenary session by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided in the absence of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

According to the letter, the proposed states include:

– North-Central: Okun, Okura, and Confluence (from Kogi); Benue Ala and Apa (from Benue); FCT State

– North-East: Amana (Adamawa); Katagum (Bauchi); Savannah (Borno); Muri (Taraba)

– North-West: New Kaduna, Gujarat (Kaduna); Tiga, Ari (Kano); Kainji (Kebbi)

– South-East: Etiti, Orashi (sixth states in the South-East); Adada (Enugu); Orlu (Imo); Aba (Abia)

– South-South: Ogoja (Cross River); Warri (Delta); Ori, Obolo (Rivers)

– South-West: Torumbe (Ondo); Ibadan (Oyo); Lagoon (Lagos); Ijebu, Ogun (Ogun); Oke-Ogun/Ijesha (Oyo/Ogun/Osun)

The committee stated that the creation of new states must meet constitutional requirements, including a two-thirds majority approval from the National Assembly, the affected State Houses of Assembly, and Local Government Councils.

Afenifere, Arewa Groups Reject Proposal

However, major socio-cultural groups, including Afenifere and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), have rejected the proposal, describing it as “ridiculous and unnecessary.”

The National Organising Secretary of Afenifere, Abagun Kole Omololu in an interview with Punch, dismissed the move, stating that it contradicts Afenifere’s longstanding demand for true federalism.

“Instead of addressing the core structural issues plaguing Nigeria, this initiative appears to be a mere political exercise that will further weaken governance and deepen economic inefficiencies.’’

Afenifere has consistently advocated genuine fiscal federalism, similar to what Nigeria’s founding fathers agreed upon before independence.

Omololu noted, “The creation of more states without a viable economic foundation will only compound the financial burden on the nation, as many existing states are already struggling to generate sufficient Internally Generated Revenue and rely heavily on federal allocations to survive.

“Turning every local government into a state is not the solution to Nigeria’s governance challenges. The real issue is not the number of states but the dysfunctional federal structure that has concentrated power at the centre, stifling regional development.”

Instead of proliferating states that may later be unviable, Afenifere urged the National Assembly to focus on constitutional reforms that would devolve power, return resource control to the regions, and grant states the autonomy to develop at their own pace.

“Nigeria needs a system where states or regions control their resources and contribute an agreed percentage to the federal government, just as it was during the First Republic. This is the only path to sustainable development, not the reckless creation of more administrative units.

“Afenifere rejects this proposal and calls on well-meaning Nigerians to resist attempts to distract from the real conversation—restructuring and true federalism,” Omololu declared.

Arewa Consultative Forum Oppose Lawmakers’ Move

The Arewa Consultative Forum similarly expressed strong opposition to the proposed creation of 31 new states, describing the idea as unnecessary.

Ohanaeze Endorse Move

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide declared that the South-East should be allocated more states to address “the wrongs that had been done to the region on state creation.’’

Ohanaeze’s National Publicity Secretary, Ezechi Chukwu, stated, “It is unfortunate that such a bill is also aimed at suppressing the South-East as usual. It is completely unacceptable that Southeast should be appropriated only five states.

“South-East, all these while, is the only zone in the Federal Republic of Nigeria that has the least number of states irrespective of our population and our contributions both economically and infrastructural development of the nation.

“So, giving southeast such a small number of five states in this bill when others that already have advantages orchestrated by successive governments before now is quite unacceptable and unfortunately, it is above all antithetical to the commonwealth of the South-Easterners and the so-called equity we are preaching in the country.”

He added, “South-East deserves more states more than any other zone in the country because South-East is the only zone that has been short-changed over the years by successive governments. So, if justice and equity should prevail southeast must be given the highest number of states.

“So, if the Federal Government fails to correct the wrongs that had been done to the South-East over the years, this is the time to at least give this equation some terms of balance by appropriating more number states to the South-East to make up with the other geopolitical zones.”

The Pan-Niger Delta Forum observed that the creation of more states could be meaningful if all the geo-political zones in the country have equal states as agreed in the last constitutional conference.

The spokesman for PANDEF, Christopher Ominimini, however, queried the viability of new states, pointing out that states should be created based on self-sustainability.

If the creation of more states became necessary, he argued it should be done equally across the board to even with the North-West, which has seven states.

Anything short of that, he noted, would be a perpetuation of the injustice in the country.

He said a situation where more states would be created to depend on the oil and gas from the Niger Delta region, while other states with mineral resources are allowed to exploit theirs is not the way to go.

He stated, “ Well, it is the right of the people to call for the creation of states. However, the most important thing is that in the last constitutional conference, it was agreed that all the geopolitical zones should have seven states each as it is in the North-West.

“So, the South -East should have additional two states so that it would be seven states. The South- West should have additional states to make it seven states.

He added, “But the question we want to ask is ‘will the states be viable?’ Do they have the means of survival if the vision of our forefathers are kept to? Because the vision of our forefathers who fought for the independence of this country is that the various states should control their resources and pay tax to the centre.”

Imagine the Nigerian Naira was used globally. What the CBN would have done instead of printing the new N1,000 notes that's everywhere now, would be to print Naira, then spread the money across the world through so called aid.

Sweet opportunity for Russia to arm Denmark, Greenland, Mexican cartels & Panama with long range weapons to strike deep inside Washington.

The US needs to get a taste of its own medicine.

The reason they think they're all powerful is because they've never had powerful bombs hitting their cities before. They've never experienced death from war on their own soil before.

They sit in their peaceful country and orchestrate violence in far away lands because they can't strike back. That time has come to an end.

5 countries now possess weapons that can reach every inch of US mainland.

You can't claim to be powerful when you've never been heavily bombarded and have your cities levelled before.

Russia have tasted wars, lost 27 million people, had their cities flattened and still won the war against the formidable Nazi Germany. And still became the 2nd, if not 1st most powerful country in the world.

Over 10,000 Russian troops are still in Syria. The same amount that have been there since forever. How is that a withdrawal??

The US fled from Afghanistan and left so many equipments behind in a hurry. We all watched it live on TV.

After spending 20 years and 4 trillion dollars, with nothing to show for it. The people they came to topple are still in power.

And guess what... The whole of NATO countries sent troops to help the US invade Afghanistan. Imagine needing help from over 30 countries to invade goat herders with nothing more than a rusty AK-47... SHAMEFUL!!

Even Russia assisted the US by giving them a land corridor to move their troops to Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia, Qatar all assisted the US.

The US received military support from literally every powerful country. The UK sent over 20,000 troops to help the US.

But it's the only 5k North Korean troops you guys like to talk about. As if 5000 troops can make any difference, when Russia already has 800,000 troops stationed in the former Ukrainian territories.

Western troops in Ukraine disguised as mercenaries are over 200k. Ukraine itself said it.

Russia now permanently occupies an area the size of the UK + Netherlands in just 2 years of war. How many cm of land is the US sitting on in Afghanistan today??

Please get lost. This war has shown Russia is the true world power.
What was the aim of Russia if not to protect the Assad administration?

IslamRe: Sharia In Yoruba Land: A Call For Constructive Engagement by ScarletBrace(m): 9:47pm On Jan 24, 2025
Lukgaf:
Sharia in Yoruba land: a call for constructive engagement

By Barrister Muideen Olagunju

In most nations of the world, cultural and religious homogeneity is rare. Even in countries where there is a single or predominant religion, there are tribes or races. Where people differ in cultural, tribal and religious beliefs or practices, there comes obligatory rights.

One of such rights is the right or freedom of thought, conscience and religion. In Nigeria, that right or freedom is guaranteed under Section 38 (1) of the 1999 Constitution. Article 18 of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights states that “everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public and private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance”.

Upon return to democratic rule in Nigeria in 1999, 12 Northern states agitated for and got the nod for the adoption of legislations in Islamic criminal law to regulate the conducts of Muslims alongside the long established non-criminal Muslim personal law which covers issues like marriage, divorce, inheritance and maintenance. The North has always had Sharia Court and Sharia Court of Appeal just as the South has always had Customary Court and Customary Court of Appeal. Even in the appointment of Justices to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, there are requirements to the effect that certain number of the appointments must go to Justices who are learned in Islamic personal law for the purpose of being expertly poised to take appeals bordering on Islamic law from a Sharia Court of Appeal. There is a similar provision for appointment of Justices who are learned in customary law to take appeals from a Customary Court of Appeal.

For emphasis, ONLY MUSLIMS can have their conducts regulated under Sharia Law, whether personal (civil) or criminal. It is should be mentioned though that the constitutionality of Islamic criminal law is still up in the air with many questioning the jurisdictional contradiction with the entrenched principle of law that for anyone to charged with a criminal offence, such offence and its punishment must be contained in a written (legislated) law. Since the Glorious Quran and the criminal principles expressed in the four schools of Islamic jurisprudence (Hanafiyyah, Malikiyah, Shafiyyah and Hanbaliyah) are NOT considered written law in Nigeria, it is believed that the 12 Northern states that adopted Islamic criminal law only scaled through because the then president, Olusegun Obasanjo, deliberately withheld the political will to block the adoption, particularly since the adoption was deemed to be well-received in the states and since non-Muslims retained their rights not be subjected to the law.

Muslims in the South of Nigeria, especially in the South West, are many. There has always been agitations, though subdued until recently, for the adoption of MUSLIM PERSONAL LAW which will cover only issues like marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance and maintenance.

It appears that the agitation is getting louder but taking the WRONG approach of trying to ram it down the throat of government leaves a lot to be desired.

COMMUNICATION is a word we hear every day but it has very wide and important ramifications. In every agitation, “communication” is key.

The approach of suddenly fixing a date for the launch of Sharia Court in Oyo State with Oyo Town being the test case is inherently wrong. On what basis are the founders acting? On account of whose approval? Who builds the courts? Who appoints the judges? By what modes will proceedings, record keeping and enforcement take place?

The news of the launch caused concerns. Some Muslims were asking for more information and the extent of the law. I am sure the dominant concern is about the criminal aspect of Sharia. For non-Muslims, for the lack of adequate information, justification for concern is founded on whether or not it will affect their own rights.

To quell all concerns and objections, Muslim personal law is HARMLESS. Even in some countries, notably India, where Muslims are in the minority, Muslim Personal Law has taken roots and is covered by legislation. In the UK, while Sharia has no force of law, the Muslim Law (Shariah) Council UK is recognized by the government as an organization that offers mediation services to Muslims in UK.

In Nigeria, Muslims in the South are actually at a jurisprudential disadvantage as a result of the absence of Sharia courts. I’ll explain why.

Most Muslims conduct marriage under Islamic Law officiated by Islamic clerics, which for jurisprudential purposes, is at par with Customary Law that is widely in operation among locals in all parts of the South. However, when Muslims embark on divorce proceedings or jostle over inheritance, they have no Islamic court to turn to. They instead often resort to customary courts where there is no guarantee that Muslims will form the panel of judges. Even if the judges are Muslims, they are constrained to apply only customary law. The pertinent question is: why are Muslims able to start their marriages under Islamic law but forced to officially end the marriages under customary law when Islamic codes of conduct are significantly different from Yoruba law and custom?

On the strength of the irrefutable position that Muslim personal law is a right of Muslims that does not in any way clash with the rights of non-Muslims, a strategy of constructive engagement with community stakeholders and the government is the only way to see it through. It will continue to hit the brick wall with the kind of gung-ho approach recently undertaken by the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria.

Muslims in Nigeria have to move away of ignorance-sounding rhetorics and actions. What happens to the principle of “in’iqad”? When matters will concern the general public, it is always best to convene meetings to listen to opinions, particularly from experts. I doubt if the Sharia proponents in Oyo State and, by extension, the South West consulted Muslim lawyers and even judges to find a road map to constructive engagement with government and the general public.

Despite the set-back of getting the issue blown out of proportion to the extent that the federal government becomes concerned about security threats in the South West, a proper convention should be held and the right proposals be made to the government.

The ethos of a Muslim community is decidedly higher and MUST ALWAYS take the interest of everyone as important in every conversation. When words and actions cause panic, it’s a big sign that the ethos have fallen short.

Imo, Abia, Kebbi and Cross River are advanced parasites.

Lagos, Rivers, Oyo and Bayelsa are the ones holding the glue together.

Imo well done, you more than doubled the figures of your next comrade (Kebbi) in arms grin grin grin grin
Same Bayelsa your western brothers say are lazy.
Lagos is a combinative input of the potentials from all 36 states, plus privilege of having a functioning sea port due to politricks.

So we still celebrate this as development in today's world of Android 15 and iOS 18?

You will see how people will feel so excited to snap these mediocre projects with sophisticated phones. Between the West and Africa is like different time zones of 2 centuries apart.

More like golden wares in a wooden house...or say living in a mud house while talking about powered doors and elevators at the same time.

Unfortunately the timezone in our heads in this part of the world, doesn't match the sophistication of the most modern products we consume and relish for a 21st century experience.

I'm glad we still have them to blame for our ability to consume the product of their intelligence. After all they came here and stole our resources; material and intellectual and the yahoo boys are helping us steal them back in return.

Where and when did U.S.A help China??
For more than 2 decades now the U.S are the largest importer from China.
So you no know say China's accession into WTO in 2001 was a huge factor that shaped her global significance today?
That's more than 2 decades now. Those born in the 90s and 80s at least, know that the "made in China" thing wasn't a trend at the time.
The US played a major role in China's accession into WTO.., triggering a new era for China to open up to the world for global opportunities in the wake of underlying reforms, induced by the influence of the Western globalization ideology,, which had a great impact on Hong Kong, China's greatest trading partner at the time.

I don't expect you to know as far back as before you were born, cos you bubus have an anemic reading culture these days. You just pick up headlines and confuse yourselves with semantics.
