So I came across a post on Facebook where a genuine question was asked by a Yoruba person about the Yoruba word for someone who doesn’t have fear .....words like Akinkanju, Onígboyà, Akonni, depending on the context. As usual, some Igbo people hijacked the thread and started saying very insulting things: “Yorubas are this, they are that,” “it’s surprising they even have a word for bravery,” and so on. As expected, it quickly turned into a tribal battle. The most surprising part was some Yorubas joining in and trying to spin the story, just because they didn’t want to be seen as sentimental. Some were like, “ehn, we Yorubas are truly like this and that.” I was like… are you serious? There’s a difference between politics and insults. This was a pure insult on your ancestors, and it had nothing to do with Tinubu or politics. In short, it’s really disappointing to see, and it felt like the height of cowardice. And I agree with some of the Igbo people......yes, there are cowards among Yorubas. These are the ones who don’t want to be seen as sentimental and will agree to any nonsense just to avoid been called tribalistic. I honestly don’t even know why I’m writing this. Call me a tribalist or whatever, but if you’re that Yoruba person who cowers just to satisfy others, you are a coward, and it’s disappointing to call you my brother or sister… ire o!

Igbos Make una do well... seems na una and Trump and Israel wan start world war 3, I see why una dey always run to him😹 |
My Igbo people, abeg make we talk this thing calmly. Nobody is against having leaders in your community... that one is normal. But must it always be “king” everywhere una go? Sometimes e be like say the title dey cause more confusion than respect, especially outside Igbo land. Nigeria already get enough issues ......tribalism, disunity and all, but one thing wey I respect be say anytime outsiders try to drag us, Nigerians go still come together defend the country. I’ve seen it many times, and I’ve been doing the same too. But this recent “king” matter don dey give other countries reason to mock us. From South Africa to Ghana and even other places, people don dey talk, and honestly e no really help our image. I just feel say some of these things fit be avoided if we think am through well. Maybe it’s time to adjust how these titles are used, especially outside Igbo land, so it no go bring unnecessary attention or tension. Make we dey mindful small , because at the end of the day, wetin one group do fit reflect on all of us as Nigerians.
