The National Examination Council (NECO) will introduce Computer- Based Test (CBT) in objective papers of its subsequent examinations, says Dr Paddy Njoku, the Chairman, NECO Governing Board. Njoku made this known on Thursday in Abuja during the board’s monitoring visit to the Model Secondary School, Maitama, centre of NECO Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination. He said he was impressed with the progress of the examination as students and teachers conducted themselves well. The chairman said that the visit was informed by the fact that today’s paper — Mathematics — was compulsory for all the students. “We will introduce CBT in papers that need computer in the next exams, but some other subjects are either practical or essay; so you cannot put everything under CBT. “Mathematics is compulsory; so the hall will be full; that is why we decided to inspect them today. “We do about four levels of monitoring; we have invigilators’ supervisors, security men and external monitors drawn from institutions of higher learning, who independently, monitor without getting involved in the administration of the examination. “The board comes out to monitor and get direct assessment of the situation so that nobody tells stories and all these we do to ensure very strict control of our examination.’’ Njoku said that reports from all over the country indicated that the examination was going on fine. He said the performance of students in the examination had improved over the last two years based on students who made five credits, including Mathematics and English. According to him, the performance will continue to improve “since the rot created over the years will take some time to fix”. He blamed dwindling performance of students on the quality of teachers, adding that efforts were being made to address the problem. “ If we do not get the correct materials to teach the students in terms of teacher quality, we do not expect the students to do wonders. “We are trying to encourage, in our own way; the authorities to make sure that teachers are properly motivated to produce good students. “We have to look at the quality and commitment of teachers and to make sure they are properly trained. “It is something that should be done in conjunction with other stakeholders,’’ he said. On his part, NECO Registrar, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, said that in 2016, all objective examinations of the body would be CBT. He said he had been visiting schools in various states, adding that the visit to Model Secondary School, Maitama, was the Board’s monitoring. “ In the schools visited so far, we have not seen anything that can cause disturbance; it has been complete compliance with the rules of the examination. “All centres in Nigeria have been adequately secured; in special areas like Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, extra security measure have also been taken.’’ Garba said that 975, 991 students were taking the examination nationwide. According to him, the results will be released 60 days from the date of the last paper which comes up on July 10. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/breaking-news-neco-to-introduce-cbt-in-subsequent-exams-board-chairman/ |

The Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s reaction to Tuesday’s election of National Assembly leaders as a “great mark of leadership” and a demonstration of the President’s commitment to democracy. In a statement issued by his media office on Wednesday, the Senate President commended President Buhari for remaining steadfast in his commitment to the principle of non-interference in National Assembly politics even in the face of great pressure on him to act otherwise. “This shows that Mr. President is a man of great conviction who, in his own words, belong to everyone and to no one,” the statement reads. In a similar vein, the new Senate President also denies that he had a plan to decamp to the People’s Democratic Party, describing the insinuation as ” absurd and laughable.” According to him, “it is just cheap blackmail by political adversaries who want to call a dog a bad name in order to hang it. And those making such desperate allegations should remember that I willingly left the PDP on matters of principles when the party was in power. Is it now that the party is out of government and in opposition that I will now return having worked so hard for my party in the last general elections,” he queried. He stated his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he remains a loyal party member and a leader of the party, committed to contributing his quota to building the party and helping it to deliver its promise of change to Nigerian people. He urged all members of the National Assembly to put politicking behind them and settle down for the proper business of legislating. “Our country is going through a very trying times. We have the challenge of insecurity in the North East. The massive problem of youth unemployment and general economic challenges occasioned by the falling oil prices in the international market and the consequential fall in revenue. All these are coming against the huge public expectation that propelled our party into office. We have pursued our legitimate aspirations appropriately. Now that the issues have been settled, we need to move on in the larger interest of our people, without whose mandate we would not have been in a position to aspire to these positions in the first place.” The Senate President stated his readiness to embrace every member of the Senate regardless of his or her political leanings in the leadership elections just concluded. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/saraki-commends-buharis-commitment-to-democracy/ |
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, says he will retire from the Super Eagles after the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017. He said he had been on the scene since 2002, adding that there was every reason for him to give way for others to take over. Interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday, Enyeama, who is also the Super Eagles captain, explained that the desire to give younger goalkeepers the opportunity to develop themselves informed his decision to retire from the national team. “I can’t keep doing the same thing forever; there is going to be a time I have to stop and give it up to some other persons. “I am the only face here since 2002, but 2017 Nations Cup finals will be my last game. I just said my target, anything can happen after,” he added. The Eagles goal tender explained that the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, prevented him from retiring from the team after it failed to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. Enyeama told the NAN that his wife and pastor also prevailed on him to drop the plan. The Lille of France safe hands said, “I actually wanted to stop, it wasn’t a rumour. Nigeria is blessed with great goalkeepers, just that we need to give them confidence. “Nobody gave me a chance when I started, I was a rookie also; I belt it up, I worked hard for it and became the big person that nobody wants to lose. “What changed my mind was the passion of Nigerians. I had a lot of calls, my governor, Akpabio. “A lot of people talked with me. These things, you don’t just ignore and my wife also talked with me. “My wife didn’t want me to leave yet. I talked with my pastor and he said if everybody said stay, why not. So, I decided to continue, but then, there is going to be a time to call it quits.” www.punchng.com/news/ill-quit-eagles-after-afcon-2017-says-enyeama/

This goes out to all those who are head strong and believe drug peddling is the way out |
Nigerians going abroad with criminal intent must know that not all nations are as lawless as Nigeria. If you use your hands to carry drugs enter some countries especially in Asia, e mean sey you don sign your death warrant be that. If you are overseas and you are into crime and you are reading this post because you have not been jailed or sentenced to death, I will advise you to stop the crime now and do something legal to survive even if it means frying akara in Taiwan. Yes, sell the akara to fellow Nigerians if Taiwanese people no fit chop am, Nigerians will buy it. No go carry drugs o because Buhari government no go beg anybody when they sentence you to death. For my dear brothers and sisters in foreign nations who are almost into crime to survive, I beg you o, if to chop for dia no easy, please come back home and come and restart here. Let those who will laugh at you laugh, it is better than for you and your family to be ridiculed before the world and killed like a lizard wey no get local government. If abroad no match your genotype, come back home. Patapata you go sha see garri join with kulikuli with Ayefele song in the background. Afterall, all the Nigerian billionaires made their money here in Nigeria and they live here, from Dangote to Otedola to Adenuga so wetin you dey find to dey carry drugs for Vietnam? On top how mush? N300,000 max. I discuss with Nigerians in diaspora all the time and what many Nigerians are facing is hell. We are presently on the case of Nigerians in Cambodia now. If abroad no agree with your spirit, please deport yourself and I will come and pick you up at the airport myself and we discuss the next step of action, Shun crime and protect your dignity. Talk to people, seek advice and ignore bad friends. If someone says they have a shady business that will bring you millions, let them do it themselves. Do not waste yourself, we have all suffered too much not to enjoy the new Nigeria. Nigeria will be great Source: http://www.facebook.com/CentralBankofJokes/photos/a.632107486851830.1073741825.159773660751884/938824786180097/?type=1&relevant_count=1 |

The Lagos State Governorship election held on the 11th of April 2015 which went in favour of APC's Akinwunmi Ambode really took most Lagosians by surprise cos a good number of Lagosians pirferred the latter over the former. JK as we all know was people's favourite and judging from people's opinion, they'll rather vote for personality rather than party. And now the question is, where did JK go wrong? |
