EducationGreat Reasons To Study In China by SchoolZinicc(op): 1:14pm On Jul 30, 2024
1. Internationally recognized degrees
China is well-known for its many foreign students and top-ranked colleges offering various courses and specialities. International students from all over the globe have shown a desire to study in China.

Over 320,000 students from over 180 countries visited China in 2022 to pursue degrees or non-degree programs. It further increased to a half-million by the end of 2023.
China provides a perfect option for studying abroad, especially with the country’s massive expansion in many disciplines.

China offers many top-rated colleges that provide a diverse range of degree programs in Asia. As a result, their institutions are gaining worldwide recognition, and their international university rankings are rising.

In recent years, China has made enormous investments in its educational system. For example, it has awarded many full scholarships to college students. They have also started many new academic centres to impart quality teaching.

2. You discover a whole new world
Studying abroad provides you with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study, live, and work. You learn about the people, new culture, history, and language of one of the world’s most distinctive cultures.

Living in a foreign country will help you develop as a person by allowing you to become more self-reliant and responsible.

It also helps you see things in new ways and appreciate the differences across cultures while also understanding humans’ essential similarities.

China is no exception. There is so much to do in China once you get to know the place. There is always something new to see, do, and experience.

And if you speak Mandarin, your adventure will be at another level and so much better. There is a surge in demand for English teachers in China. Thus, you can work as a part-time ESL trainer as a student.

3. China has a rising global presence
Studying in China
If you look at the numbers, it becomes even more fascinating.

China is the world’s most populous country, with 1.4 billion people. Chinese people account for 18% of the world’s population, which is pretty vast and impressive.

Because of its sheer size, this country and its people affect businesses like e-commerce, manufacturing, services, tourism, and education. This is because income levels grow, and more people access the internet.

China is also progressing toward becoming an economic superpower. It is already the world’s fourth most popular tourist destination.

It boasts the world’s third-largest number of international students, after only the United States and the United Kingdom.

For the previous ten years, this number has increased at a pace of 10% per year on average, significantly faster than any other popular study-abroad location.

A third of all international students in China came from South Korea ten years ago.

Yet, the demographics are now much more diversified. Ten other nations account for over 3% of the foreign student population. Now, South Korea’s proportion has dropped to 17%.

4. Your employment opportunities will surge
For the past 30 years, China has been the world’s fastest-developing country in terms of economy. The economy grew at an annual rate of 8% even throughout the financial crisis, a rate unheard of in other nations.

After the United States, China’s GDP has overtaken Japan to become the world’s second-biggest economy.

Also, the top 500 corporations worldwide conduct business in China, with many establishing their Asia-Pacific headquarters in the bustling Chinese cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing.

The present rise of China has made many things clear. For example, a person has many perks of speaking Chinese. They can communicate effectively, and since they have lived there, it will directly give them an edge in the job market.

Employers are well aware of a fundamental understanding of the country, its culture, and its people. This is a big positive for those who want to be the world’s next generation of leaders.

University student employability is a crucial aspect contributing to a university’s status. Chinese institutions have constantly climbed the employability rankings left, right, and centre.

It issued the Global University Employability Ranking 2022. Again, Chinese universities featured high on the 150-strong list, with Peking University rated 14th. It even outperformed Oxford, Imperial College, McGill, and UC Berkeley.

Top employers in 22 nations provided comments for the survey, with China grabbing seven of the top 150 slots.

Chinese universities also ranked high in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2018, ranking five universities among the top 50.

With institutions consistently rising in the ranks of employability, Chinese university graduates are becoming the most sought-after talent for companies.

Companies emphasize your language abilities and experience. If you know the local language, you have many jobs that require Chinese language skills.

5. China is a great country to explore
You’ll taste China’s unique combination of old and modern civilizations and its stunning beauty and vibrant nightlife.

You’ll also open your eyes to China and the entire globe as you visit new areas alongside other students from all around the world you meet.

Because of China’s vast size, the country offers a wide range of climates, civilizations, and landscapes.

Travel to Harbin in the northeast to take in the ice festival and hit the slopes, or simply watch the water in your eyes create icicles around your eyelashes.

If -25°C is a little too chilly for you, go south to Hainan Island’s tropical beach paradise and relax in the sun.

Chinese cities today offer eye-catching works of contemporary architecture.

Because of tremendous economic development over the previous 30 years, the country has witnessed extensive infrastructure development.

Shanghai’s towering skyscrapers, Beijing’s Olympic Bird’s Nest, and spectacular historical buildings like the Great Wall and the Forbidden City are just a few examples.

China’s 5000-year history has left a seemingly limitless number of tourist sites and natural treasures of astounding beauty strewn over the country.

China’s distinctive nightlife, including private karaoke rooms and great mega-clubs, may be less well-known but equally unmissable for international students.

Thanks to a well-developed modern transportation system, travel is affordable and easily accessible. Buses and taxis service all cities, while bigger ones have advanced subway systems.

You can access every city by airline or train for long-distance travel. The high-speed train has a top speed of nearly 300 km/h and offers eating and sleeping facilities.

6. Universities spread across developing cities

International visitors and students have been venturing “deeper” into China during the last ten years, opting to visit a more extensive range of places than before.

Shanghai and Beijing were the only cities where overseas students were familiar in the past.

In 2006, over half of all international students were in Beijing or Shanghai, but that number has already dropped to 32%.

Over 10,000 overseas students are now in 13 Chinese cities, with seven cities having more than 20,000.

In the south of China, Guangdong and Liaoning are popular destinations in the north of Beijing.

Whether you plan to get a graduate job or continue your education at the postgraduate level, your university’s reputation is critical to your future chances.

Chinese universities are becoming more well-known. As a result, the number of these institutions featured in key worldwide university rankings has skyrocketed in the last five years.

This is especially in contrast with the United Kingdom, which has declined in several rankings.

There were just six Chinese institutions in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2011. Then, there were 37 in 2015-2016, more than Canada and Australia combined.

7. It is an affordable opportunity
Studying and living in China is less expensive than in Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and many other nations.

Non-EU nationals, for example, must pay at least 7000 pounds (about 10,000 dollars) every year to study at a UK institution.

The living costs might be as high as 13,000 pounds per month. Meanwhile, the USA and Australia have the highest tuition fees globally.

Even in other eastern regions of Asia, education is costly.

For example, Japan has high living costs, reaching $1800 per month. South Korea is one of the most costly nations for foreign residents globally. The same is true in Singapore.

In China, semester tuition prices are often a little over 1000 US dollars. Yet, a variety of short-term language courses are only a few hundred dollars.

The food, accommodation, travel, and consumption are as reasonable as possible.

For instance, a nice pair of pants cost 10-20 dollars, a bus ticket costs 15 cents, and a metro ticket costs 30 cents in Beijing. So, overall, everything in China is more than economic; it is inexpensive.

8. Scholarships are highly favourable to students
China intends to have at least 500,000 overseas students enrolled in its colleges by 2020, and the goal looks to be well within reach.

Overseas students get many scholarships to study in China. This gives Western Colleges a run for their money and attracts people from all over the globe.

This has increased the appeal of these universities.

Chinese Scholarships-Great Wall Program, CAS-TWAS President’s Ph.D. Fellowship Program, Chinese Government Scholarships, Tsinghua University Doctoral Scholarship, and Peking University Academic Excellence Scholarships are just a few notable scholarships available.

The Chinese government has provided financial help to at least 40% of all overseas students who recently arrived in China.

The government typically awards the scholarships following bilateral agreements on education and cultural exchange.

Still, the government has given unilateral scholarships in response to rising foreign demand.

Further, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has established a program to teach international doctoral students. Hence, seven students from Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Pakistan, and Japan were awarded Chinese government scholarships for the first time in 2004.

Professors from Huazhong Agriculture University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Postgraduates Institute guided them through their doctoral studies.

The Ministry of Education has agreed to award 50 postgraduate scholarships to foreigners with at least one bachelor’s degree from China.

9. You can learn a new language
The Chinese language is spoken by one out of every six people on earth, making it the most widely spoken native language.

So, whether or not you realize it, the language may become helpful in the future. The benefits of learning Mandarin go beyond the usual fields.

Why study in China
Most experts believe that immersion is the best way to learn a language.

Regardless of your medium of instruction, you will undoubtedly learn to converse in Chinese as you engage with the local populace in and around the institution.

Your ability to communicate in Chinese will distinguish you from other candidates. It also enables you to get a highly marketable language talent in great demand in the global workforce.

Since you are already there, you can take one of the Mandarin proficiency tests to gain a recognized certificate.

Unlike other countries, where the frequency of tests and centres is limited, China has many options. Take the Chinese HSK test when you are confident in your language skills.

10. Personal growth through cultural exchange
China has a long history and fascinating traditions. It is a mesmerizing nation with a broad range of cities and cultures, gorgeous architecture, and a unique way of life.

And that is another reason it attracts students from across the world.

With an ever-increasing foreign student population, studying in China may provide possibilities to meet young people who will become significant people in their areas in the future.

Networking is so important these days. You develop worldwide relationships that can benefit your career. Whether you want to be a professional employee or start your own business.

You’ll also encounter distinctive cultures when you travel across China. Still, everyday living will be just as novel and enjoyable, believe it or not.
Living and mingling with local Chinese people and immersing yourself in Chinese culture will give you a fresh perspective on the world. It offers the type of understanding that only living in China can bring.

These benefits would have convinced you to study in China by now!

11. Safe and a peaceful place to study
China is one of the safest and most peaceful places to visit globally. Plus, people are friendly, polite, and welcoming to international students.

In terms of violent crime, it ranks low in victims per capita. That is why it frequently appears on lists of the world’s safest places.

As a student, you can live safely and securely. This has made the country a popular study destination for many students.

A nation with a high life expectancy, low crime rate, rising per capita income, universal healthcare, world-class education, and technological advancements are worth living in.

Wrapping Up: Should you study in China?
Should I study in China?
China is a great place to study abroad with its top-quality education, rich culture, affordable fees, and vibrant student life. It can also open up a wide range of career opportunities for you.

In short, “China has it all.”

Your decision to study in China could change your life personally and professionally. Also, you will create lifelong memories if you pursue your studies there.

I hope these reasons for studying in China are valuable to you. Good luck, or as they say in Mandarin, 祝你好运.

Wow...
Hv been observing from the first page...
Really thought you have a good and substantial reason for your assertion.
But seems you re one of those who who talk with that their Secondary schl reasoning for instance whn you were in sec schl they made you blive that a mech engr build car only or can only work in automobile industries...
Civil only build houses such and so on.
But no one will actually criticize your thinking at those levels.

It now calls for serious attention to see an higher institution student having the same mentality.. It's really disheartening and no parent will actually be proud of such student. But there is actually no sin in keeping quiet whn you dont know sth rather than be proving to pple that your re really stupid by spitting out nonsense.
Materials science and Engineering students
are needed in any production industries even in this poor country lemme list just a few of where you likely to meet them in this same country you are referring to;
1 Oil and gas industries:Corrosion monitoring and Maintenance
2 Mining and geotechnics:they work there
3 Construction sites: they are there
4 Offshore drilling:hydrometallurgy or under water welding it's what they do.
5Mechanical Testing factories:For quality assurance
6Medical Fields:Bio-implantation,using Biomaterials,
6 Electrical/electronics industries: use of smart materials in smart/advanced technologies.

So, just go and do your research and convince yourself....
We don't argue to win only a kid does that
The smart ones argue to learn.

You are very correct in all your assertion that voided name calling..

However, I'm only concerned about the courses as it relates to Nigeria reality not emotions..

The bolded above was unnecessary!

I can see that you know nothing about the course..
Materials engineering encompasses metallurgical engineering...
We don't only work on metals...we have different materials presently...polymers,ceramics industries are also there.....and we have alot of composites and plastic industries in Nigeria....
Make your research....it is materials engineering not metallurgical engineering as it was called before..
All this industries you just mentioned right here all work with finished raw material with a calliberated system that supports only the services of even unskilled person's to operate.

They hardly employ a Material Engineer there, highest the employ a mechanical engineer who will oversee the day to day health of those machines with an already made manual and duty guide and an electrical engineer who will ensure that all electrical and electronics protocols are being observed to keep production afloat.

They import finished plastics pallets then, mix with generated scraps from all the scavengers you see daily.

So the polymers and ceramic, steels and irons too..

Fantastic bro...
Just go through the post and read my reply...He has zero knowledge about MSE...I am a 300level student of materials science and engineering and I am really enjoying the course(in a Nigeria standard)..
MSE is one of the best engineering course presently because of the emergence of advance materials to enhance our technology...
without materials,we have no life. Every branch of engineering need materials to function properly and effectively...I think that guy is an art student.... let's forgive him abeg...
Many EEE and MEE graduates are now coming to my department to run masters in corrosion engineering and nanotechnology....very lucrative field I must say ...MSE is not about metals only
Let me tell you something:

This is not to discourage you in any way my brother.

The course is a fantastic course, it consist of the core rudiments when it comes to creating life out of anything solid, be it metal, plastic, ceramic etc..

But in Nigeria setting, the course is like a beautiful bride without a groom.

I studied MME in ESUT, graduate of 2006 with so much enthusiasm.

I did my Industrial Attachment with PRODA, a reputable agency with pedigree then, I'm not sure now, because they have relented to Mechanical and electrical stuff nowadays.

Never would you see any job website request the service of a Material Engr, yes you can get a job, but mostly job reserved for all engineers..

No company requires such background service, because all the research and the real background work which is what the course is mostly for has all been taken away to other countries.

Let me stop here shaa..

In few years u will understand me better.

Please I don't what to dwell in this argument for long..

There are very few(may be 3) raw materials development factories with complete research facility and pure raw material conversation to real consumable products..

Sadly, they all have white men as main engineers.

Be it in steel, plastic or ceramic, all raw materials extracted from Nigeria ends up in a ship to China, Europe and the America, then return to Nigeria a finished product or pellets or even powder for ceramics..

Talking about positions in oil company, are you guys kidding me?

Every damn thing they do as regards oil exploration has been installed systematically, even when real knowledge is required, there is always a white man taking up the space of Nigerian engineers in those areas..

Yes, I speak from a complete knowledge grounds.

Materials science and engineering is one of the best engineering courses..
Yeah, it's very useless in Nigeria at the moment, especially when Ajokuta is shut down completely and the few remaining small scale steel manufacturing factories rely on scraps an works with foreigners with Nigerian unskilled labourers whom they pay peanuts for the dirty part of the job as field worker.

Outside that who else employs a material engr. in Naija?
