Is it my fault yorubas don't travel?... Igbos in the west and north are good with different languages which includes Yoruba and hausa.. Being able to speak Yoruba and hausa doesn't change the fact they know how to speak Igbo too.. They will trade with Yoruba or hausa of course because that's the language used in that area or region.. That's not hard to understand.

Well Igbo is widely spoken than Yoruba you can also go to the south south and see for yourself... Fact.

They won't understand Yoruba because it's not needed in their day to day activity..
This west you're yapping about is just Lagos. The percentage of yorubas you'll see in the east is the same percentage of Igbos you'll see in other west states asides Lagos.. stop talking like it's the entire west..

Igbos trade in the south west with English or pidgin except that Igbo has a Yoruba mum or was born and raised in the core parts of the west and which doesn't also mean that Igbo that was raised there doesn't know how to speak Igbo.. Any Yoruba that was raised in the east too would be able to speak Igbo. I've proved it over and there's nothing to prove more.

On the movie industry part Igbo movies are more and more aired over stations. Majority of the actors, actressesetc are Igbos and they'll use English for your comprehension.. The Yoruba word you tend to hear are Yoruba slangs from some of the Yoruba actors except you are talking of the Yoruba native movie where Yoruba is used through out.

Majority of the Nigerian movies you'll watch have Igbos slangs.. Stop watching African magic Yoruba..
Now lets go to the music industry

Igbos trades in South west with three languages.
English, pidgin and Yoruba.
Not only Igbos but Hausas and other tribes.

In North.
Igbos trades with English, pidgin and Hausa.

In South south
Igbos trades with English and pidgin


Why won't they understand Yorubas
How many non Igbos are in SE?

You have no travel experience. A native man will converse with his brother in his native language and use English for a foreigner and it's a thing of choice... Go to onisha market and See many hausas, Yorubas and other tribes uses English to communicate

Then come over to South west and the North and see how other Igbos and other tribes use Yoruba and Hausa language to communicate.

You talk of Movie industry, apart from Isi mbido TV that shows mainly igbo language movies and Yoruba TV that shows mainly Yoruba language movies.

Other movies that is produced in English.
You hardly see Igbos words in those movies and same isn't said with Yoruba words.

They are deceiving themselves. How can someone write that Yorubas a merely 20million ? While Igbo is 24million? That's balderdash as we know the tribe with the highest population in Nigeria if you split Hausa from Fulani. Yoruba has more population and most widy spoken after Hausa.

Igbos are travel for business and it's expected of them to understand the Host community languages.

In SE, Yorubas and Hausas traders speaks English to Igbos to be able to communicate with them.
They don't understand the language

But in South west and north, it is expected for the Igbos and other tribes to understand Yoruba or Hausa to be able to trade with them.

In South south, you trade via pidgin English or plain English.

How can you still tell me igbo is widely spoken after Hausa
When almost all Igbos in SW understood Yoruba. And almost all other tribes in SW understood Yoruba

That's my sumbmision in view with my travel experience.

Theg do it because of open mindedness because other ethnic group suspect them. If you are in midst of people that don't understand Ur language the best u can do is to lower Ur voice or change to English to make dem feel among. This does not mean that they don't speak Igbo when they are alone. You need to travel to understand Nigeria bro, this country is not same as the media or internet portray.
