Passport extension carries the same number, they will only stamp the same passport indicating that the passport has being extended to another 5yrs. You can only extend passport once, if that expires then you go for re-newer where you will be given a complete new passport with a new number.

Many thanks for your reply. Will this be done if the passport has eight months validity to expiry date. Although the remaining blank pages of the passport are just three.
