President Goodluck Jonathan hinted yesterday that his administration may extend the current voter registration period to accommodate for some of the problems encountered in the current registration exercise. According to him, the government is determined to ensure that every eligible voter is registered. "The machines are slow in some cases. I believe that the training too may not be enough. I think the youth corpers were not properly trained. I believe we will get through these challenges. We will not stop until all eligible voters have registered. The complaints by Nigerians show that so many are interested in registering" he said. Many groups have clamored for an extension given that some Nigerian citizens have been unable to register with the Direct Data capture machines put in place. http://www.cp-africa.com/2011/01/21/nigerian-government-extend-voter-registration-period/ |

Many Nigerians online heard about Eric Obuh (a.k.a Vocal Slender)’s rise to prominence after the BBC’s Welcome to Lagos Documentary that aired last April. His hit single, Owo Yapa became an inspirational anthem soon after for many Nigerians and has since garnered about 86,000 plus views on You Tube. But what has Vocal Slender been up to since the BBC documentary aired last year? CP-Africa’s Nmachi Jidenma catches up with Vocal Slender where they discuss a wide range of issues ranging from how the documentary affected his life to what the Nigerian government can do to provide more opportunities for the masses. https://www.cp-africa.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/slendermain.jpg Nmachi Jidenma: Thanks for joining us at CP-Africa Slender. Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself? Vocal Slender: I am Eric Obuh a.k.a Vocal Slender, born into the family of five children;two girls and three boys Nmachi: How did Nigerians respond to your album, Send them Come? How many CDs were you able to sell both online and offline? Vocal Slender: Actually I have not release an album yet, apart from the few who know me as a musician before the documentary and those who watched the B.B.C documentary. As per CD sales, I dont know the number that has been sold, but any number they told me is what I will collect. Nmachi: How has the BBC documentary affected your life for the better? Vocal Slender: It is wonderful… it has really affected my life positively,it brought me into limelight ,but the money is not coming yet. Nmachi: So I listened to this interview you had with the Nigerian Village Square where you mentioned that you didn’t know many people were going to see the video. I was shocked. Please share that with our audience? How did they find you and how did you feel when you found out that Nigerians were going to see the video? Vocal Slender: It was one fateful Tuesday, I was in the dump, there was no work so I was busy rehearsing my songs, when some white guys walked up to me and said they like my song, that they like to film me working. At first I refused because I didnt want people to know that I work in the dump, and I didnt know that Nigerians will see the video, but the truth is, it is only few Nigerians that watched the video, either through pirated copies or on the internet. Reuters recently reported that Nigeria's Army Chief indicated that the recent attacks in Jos were done in reaction to President Goodluck Jonathan's campaign for the Nigerian Presidency. The Governor of Plateau State also asserted this argument stating that "the bombings were politically motivated terrorism, aimed at pitting Christians against Muslims to start another round of violence." http://www.citizenscentral.com/2010/12/jos-attacks-a-reaction-to-president-jonathans-presidential-campaign-says-plateau-state-governor-nigerias-army-chief/ https://www.citizenscentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/goodluck.jpg |

With about 19 days to its primaries, the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is still embroiled in internal crisis mostly connected with the modalities for conducting the primaries, particularly that of the presidency. At its 55th meeting two weeks ago, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had approved the timetable/ guidelines for the various elective positions in the country. According to the timetable, the State Assembly primary election holds nationwide on January 3, 2010, while the Senate and House of Representatives primaries comes up at the federal constituency headquarters on January 5. The governorship and presidential primaries hold on January 9 and 13th, respectively, while the names of the successful nominees will be forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on January 15th, which is the deadline given to all the 63 parties by the commission. Besides, the NEC, which was attended by President Goodluck Jonathan and his deputy, Namadi Sambo and the National Assembly leadership, also approved different dates for the screening of all aspirants on the platform of the party to ascertain their eligibility to contest for the positions. It set aside some days for those aspirants dissatisfied with the outcomes of the screening as well as the results of the primaries to appeal against them before the party adopts the names. All aspirants to the state assemblies and the governorship seats are to be screened on December 21 and 22 at the state capitals while the appeal will hold the following day. Similarly, aspirants to the two chambers of the National Assembly are to be screened on December 29 and 30 while appeals against the results will be heard on New Year eve. The new timetable also says that the party will screen its presidential aspirants in Abuja on January 11, two days ahead of the primary election for that category. However, the presidential hopefuls, who may be dissatisfied with the outcome will also have the opportunity to appeal against it the following day before the special national convention where the party’s flag bearer is expected to emerge. http://www.nigerianpaperstoday.com/2010/12/26/crisis-threatens-pdp-ahead-of-primaries/ |
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirant, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, says President Goodluck Jonathan can contest the presidency of Nigeria but not on the platform of PDP because he is not qualified to do so. Atiku also told Sunday Vanguard that he is not averse to Jonathan’s participation in the race in so far as he does so on any other platform or a coalition of platforms. According to him, he never argued against the decision of Jonathan to seek the presidency of the country. He added that the 1999 Constitution, as amended, affords the president the right to seek to return to the office of the President and Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria. But, he stressed that the point of departure was merely “that the zoning arrangement in our party frowns at his participation at a time like this. “As responsible members of a political party, we know that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria says that every Nigerian who is qualified to contest for the office of President can contest but we all come under one platform called PDP,” the presidential contender and former vice-president, who spoke through the Director- General of his campaign organisation, Senator Ben Obi, said in an interview with Sunday Vanguard. “We have to respect the rules of that party before we jump out to say we want to obey other rules because, in this country, once you are in authority, people are always afraid of telling you the gospel truth and it takes only a few people to tell you that this is not right. “It is based on the fact that some of us came together in 2006 to fight against the tenure elongation of Obasanjo. “If we had kept quiet, today, there would not be a question of talking about zoning or no zoning which some people are now claiming that they are free to contest and they can do ABC or D. “There is nothing that is holding us back on what we can say or what we cannot say regarding zoning or no zoning. It is clear in our constitution,” he added. http://www.nigerianpaperstoday.com/2010/12/26/why-jonathan-wont-be-pdps-candidate-by-atiku/ |

https://www.nigerianpaperstoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/goodluckjonathan.jpg By Sunday Njokede Does anyone still think of Jonathan Goodluck as the substantial president of Nigeria after he knelt worshipping the graven image pastor Enoch Adeboye? Nigeria is full of idol people whom Jonathan must appease else he’s a fall man. One such graven image is the Frankenstein evil in Otta. Jonathan Goodluck isn’t divinely made by sky-God nor is he self-made man. His accession to the throne was a daredevil act of ‘do or die’PDP democracy championed by ex-president OBJ. And as coequal to destruction of Nigeria, pastor Adeboye is rebranding one of the cabal products, now that it’s election era. Aside from lovely and pro-masses Pastor Tunde Bakare, pastor Adeboye and other corrupt, private airplane addicted pastors work hand-in-hand with Nigerian politicians to destroy Nigeria. The end result is churns of desperate citizens looking for meanings to their battered lives: it takes a dazed citizenry to embrace religion. In peacetime and plenty, or countries where society is run by human orderliness, the churches and other places of worship are empty. Pastors and politicians love lost and love found in Nigeria are two sided: each cabal cult promotes the other so as to have easy ride in despoiling our togetherness -as a nation of questionable devotees and complacent do-nothings. The sightseeing of pastor Adeboye super-powering over kneeling president of Nigeria was more an eyesore than a seesaw. This is equivalent of an Israeli tourist visiting Germany and the very first thing he saw was photo of Adolf Hitler painted as an angel kneeling down before Aryan pastor appeasing Aryan God. And to make matters worse, the Israeli knockabout tourist was told that the picture of Hitler was etched there by his many rightwing supporters who sing ‘Heil Hitler’ in German language and English ‘hail Hitler.’ The tourist had to cut his visit short and ran back having found out what annoying praises Hitler rightwing fanatical poured on German internet blogospheres on daily basis supporting a criminal lowlife. http://www.nigerianpaperstoday.com/2010/12/23/is-jonathan-goodluck-a-toy-or-real-president/ |
(Sahara Reporters) In what promises to be a seismic development in Nigerian politics, Speaker Dimeji Bankole and as many as 70 PDP legislators may soon leave the ruling party and embrace the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). The PDP is beset by a deepening crisis that has resulted from the controversy over which geopolitical zone is to produce the party’s presidential candidate. Many Northern members of the ruling party insist that Jonathan is violating an internal arrangement that stipulates the zoning of the presidency to a northern politician for the next four years. One of our sources indicated that Bankole, who hails from Ogun State, began serious negotiations with ACN after he realized that President Jonathan’s close political ties with Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State was inimical to the speaker’s political ambitions. Mr. Bankole has his eyes on the governorship of Ogun State, but Governor Daniel, who doubles as the southwest campaign coordinator for the Jonathan/Sambo ticket, has made it clear that he does not want the speaker succeeding him. “If the speaker wants to realize his gubernatorial ambition, he has to decamp to the CAN,” said a close associate of Mr. Bankole. http://www.nigerianpaperstoday.com/2010/12/24/house-speaker-dimeji-bankole-and-70-pdp-lawmakers-plan-to-decamp-to-acn/ |
