Your Scotch-Irish-AA analogy makes no sense either seeing as you're mixed. There's nothing laughable about accepting your full background for what it is. On the other hand, although I happen to possess the features you mentioned, the bolded remains groundless -we're not Arab, but an ethnic, indigenous African group. There's no way in hell I'd present myself as the Arab I am not, nor do I primarily present myself as "Black" over my specific ethnic heritage.

How about I present myself as I am - a Somali [American]. That's how it is. How it should be.

I respect you for ameeting though it was not solely directed at Somali people in particular and I will admit I did a Pisa poor job of wording that but I was speaking of the somali people who boldly ID as Arab which is their choice to do so .but as far as the black people from the same region having the same ancestry it gets a Bit tricky down south vs the north ,east and west .seeing as how the south Mississippi in general was once a hot bed For Chinese laborers who were tricked into working the mines and other forms of manual labor .with that being said many in my area of the U.S. Have east Asian ancestry as well ,example Oprah and May Jameson and many others ,while people in Louisiana tend to have everything from African, French creole, Spanish and Native American ancestry but none the less we come from the same core people "Africans" .And you are correct we AAs are a mixed race people but the only group of people even closely unmixed linked to Africans are the Gullah Geechee who come in at a Wopping 90 to 99% Sub Saharan African seeing as how they literally escaped slavery by fleeing into the low country swamps where they preserved their culture,language and traditions .

I wanted to leave this up to show my cousin .Thanks For your comments you guys just helped me win a bet me and my cousin had going on .She has this Liberian friend that tells her he can go for pinpoint accuracy in guessing her Afram ancestral origins .I told her it was complete bull so i decided to make a wager .so you just helped me put five bucks in my pocket .Honest to god truth i dont really care for my african tribal ancestry or its culture as it does not define me as a Afram today. My ancestral tribes culture never stopped anyone from dying ,being stolen from ,being cheated ,being lied to ,being raped etc ,i think we AAs and many other people of African origin can Claim truth to that .

Im tired of slapping Shea butter and Lotion on my skin just to get rid of This skin discoloration I have Been dealing with .I have had my ups and downs with this since i was a teenager and im now well into my early twenty's .Has anyone else on here had any dealings with this and if so what have you been using to clear it up For so long ?

Honestly as AA black man of African descent I don't know if im qualified to speak on this but I will .I don't think it is a inferiority complex I just think it's all about personal choices.my family for instance descended from Africans who were captured and sold off For other trading goods many were beaten , raped ,hung ,killed and against their will their culture became Obsolete.the truth is following their capture and their betrayal by their own kind some came to the new world and willing adopted another culture as a way of survival but kept only one tradition alive depending on their choice .my Family's choice was to keep ancestral Reverance Alive hiding it behind what We know as Africanized Christian faith .My great great grandmother was even considered a witch by most and a medicine woman by some because she Knew what herbs worked for this or that .

Lol I can't stop laughing at these comments in this thread. I am AA and I see self hatred exists across the Atlantic and back .Honestly the people of Somalia look black to me but they consider themselves different because of hair and facial features lol .thats like saying that black people from Mississippi look different from black people in Texas or Louisiana.the whole thing about features is a weak argument because My family is filled with fair skinned AA's with Scotch-Irish Ancestry with red to coco brown and soft curly or loose and wavy hair though me and my mother Are of a darker cafe brown color .at one point my hair was a copper color and my eyes are of a deep brown color .the point is that with all that Scotch-Irish ancestry we are Still black .I would be laughed at if i went into a room and stopped calling myself AA and said that i am white and Scotch-Irish .I will give u a moment to acknowledge the laughter ....that is what a Somali person with fair or dark skin or loose or curly hair will be greeted with If they say they are Arab .Of course you are free to Acknowledge your ancestry but never act as if you are not black when visibly everyone can see it you'd look foolish as any self hating black AA ,Caribbean,African etc should.
