IntimidationJay:Sure. |
Jioke1994:If you follow the thread, you'd see the explanation. Let me break it down again. As a traveler, you are entitled to 2 pieces of luggage weighing 23kg each and 1 hand luggage weighing 7kg. If your load is more than what I listed above, it is seen as excess luggage and the airline will charge you. Nothing is free. |
ericksen:I don't know what the officials will say. Just prepare to pay. If you really can't pay, shed the weight. |
Lianna2020:Yes, don't expect anything less than. |
ray007bu: ![]() |
ericksen:Lol. So, I had 2 boxes and 1 ghana must go bag each weighing 20kg. You know travelers have an allowance of 2 bags at 23kg each and a hand luggage of 7kg. So I paid for the third bag. It was simply a flat rate. They didn't consider the weight, they just charged a flat rate. Thinking back, if I had known that the charge would be by back, I would have carried more food items. ![]() I am not asking you to do that, though. ![]() |
ericksen:Hi. It's a flat rate, not cost per kg. I paid roughly 125k. |
Gloryyssssz:Amen to this! An enrollment letter is evidence that you have registered for AND started attending classes. I can't speak for all schools but for my own school, the International Transition Coordinators mentioned that those for semesters that had not yet commenced, the new students cannot access an enrollment letter. I know a lot of debate happens here on the enrollment letter subject, but reach out to your school to be sure you can't get it. To be honest, your letter of acceptance and proof of tuition payment is what you need for checks. Don't worry about the vaccination. I know some schools are organizing vaccinations for their students. You will have to quarantine at your accommodation when you land, instead of staying at a hotel. This is if your flight is after August 9. There is no need to worry. |
limitless:- At the bank. There are currency exchange offices in the airport, but I didn't explore. My ride had been waiting for hours and I wanted to get out of there ASAP. I was tired. |
Gracehayford1:I showed a Naira bank statement. I paid full tuition. However, I overheard another official asking another student to show evidence of the capacity to pay the second semester and living expenses. So, if you have paid for one semester, you are good. You don't have to pay for the full year upfront. |

Responses beside. 1. Did you get a transit visa for Frankfurt or Amsterdam.- No transit visa required 2. Did you leave the airport during the layover- No. 3. Did you have another connecting flight from Toronto.- No ( My final destination, Kitchener, is about an hour away. I got there by road) 4. How many hours did it take you to leave Pearson airport to your final destination- 1 hour. |
MY LANDING GIST I will try to be as detailed as possible. My flight had been booked for August 1 since the second week in June, and I didn't reschedule because while booking I didn't select the option to pay for a date change. (Too much aroro is not good as I would have changed my flight date and not put myself under unnecessary pressure at the airport while checking in) On arrival at the airport, I was asked if I had foodstuff. I said yes, so I was directed to the Agricultural produce counter where I filled a form and paid the sum of N2,000. I was then given a print out to show that I had declared the agricultural produce. Next was to find the incredibly long queue for Lufthansa travelers. I got on the queue and when it was turn my bags were weighed. I had 3 bags weighing about 20kg each. I was told I would need to pay for the extra bag, obviously. I was given the ticket to go pay, after I had been checked in. When it was my turn to be checked in, I was asked for the following: 1. Arrive CAN 2. Enrolment Letter (which I did not have) 3. Evidence of payment 4. Letter of Acceptance I explained that since I hadn't started classes and I had reached out to my school to get the enrolment letter but was refused based on the fact the enrolment letters are only for students who had started classes already, I was advised to explain to the officials. I did so, but they were already saying that "ah, you will not board o, you need your enrolment letter o". I responded by asking them to tell the CBSA people what I told them. The guy in charge left and came back to say the border officer said I couldn't board as my flight date was not within the 4 weeks advisory. (The enrolment letter wasn't the issue) I told to him to explain that I had booked in June and was not aware of the 4 weeks advisory (I genuinely wasn't, I don't like wahala). The border officer then replied that I should just reschedule. The Lufthansa officer then responded by saying that I had been to TICKETING, and that there were no more flights for August. Next response: XXXXXXXXX, OK TO BOARD. The man was gracious enough enough to show me the chats on WhatsApp. I was already afraid that I will have to carry all my luggage back home after all the stress of getting to this point of my Canadian journey, and not just the airport. My trip was smoother from there. Good inflight food and entertainment. 6 hour layover in Frankfurt. Another 8 hours plus to Toronto. Tiring trip o! Anyway, at the airport you queue to selfservice your landing, scan your passport, take your photo and all. Then the machine gives you a slip. Next, you get on another queue where some documents are asked of you. For me it was Arrive CAN, Vaccination card (I made sure I was fully vaccinated) and letter of acceptance. The officer was satisfied and then I got on the queue for students to get my study permit. Depending on who you meet, the questions will vary. When it was my turn, I was asked for: 1.Letter of acceptance 2. Tuition receipt I showed him. Then he asked for evidence of my living expenses coverage and I showed him my bank statement (Print a recent one, please). He then told me to wait, that he wants to print my permits. He gave me 2, Study and Work. He also took the time to explain the conditions on the documents. When he was done he said, "Welcome to Canada" with a huge smile on his handsome face. I sailed out like the queen I am to look for my luggage which I found after a long while. The airport is so big. Please eat in the plane or during your stopovers. You need your strength for the queues and movements. As you can tell, I wasn't asked for my hotel reservation because I am fully vaccinated. On my way out of the airport, I was given a Covid home test kit to get a sample for pickup at my accommodation. I am exempt from quarantine. I think that's mostly it. Have some loose cash in case the airport officials tax you and you don't know how to say NO. Oh yea, classes start Sep 7, so I was about 1 week ahead of the 4 weeks advisory. Paid the extra luggage, it was pricey, so prepare. I think it's worth it, though. Hope this helps someone. |
Hello, sent you an email per your post below. Please respond at your earliest. Thank you! NairaLuck: |
This is true. At the height of the pandemic it was being requested because students were deemed to have started classes. If you are not registered, there is no enrollment letter to generate, that is the main point. However, because of our local immigration officials, it may be safer to have the school generate it for you if registration has not opened, or you wait to register before you move. Follow up with your school. CHIKACIC: |
Oh I see. How were you able to get yours if your classes haven't started. Care to share, please? Lianna2020: |
No, you don't have to be enrolled before you travel. Enrollment letter is asked for mainly because students have started classes at their home country. If your classes or registration has not started, please take your letter of acceptance with you. Also, if you have been given admission and you have your PPR, check with your school for webinars for new students. They have all this information and you can always get clarity from the international students office. From the info I gathered, due to Covid, you are not advised to enter Canada more than 4 weeks before classes start. So if your class starts in September, 1st to 2nd week in August is a good time to travel, so you can quarantine, if you are not fully vaccinated. LJF11: |
Hi. send me an email, let's talk. I am travelling August. RichieJayy: |
Hello fam, I am looking for a travel partner to Kitchener for the 1st week of August. We may not be able to split quarantine cost, but we can split Airbnb costs. Putting this out there, in case someone knows someone who is going to Kitchener, Ontario. Many thanks! |
Hello house. How soon can one depart for Canada ahead of a Fall Semester? Can one enter Canada in July if orientation starts say late August? thanks for the responses. |
Not sure anyone has responded but this is what I think it means. There is a backlog of students who have been offered admission for previous terms but have not resumed due to delay in visa processing, so there is priority for those people when their visas come through. They will give them a spot before fresh applicants and in some cases close the applications early. Case in point: A friend was to resume in Sep 2020 but due to delay in visa approval she deferred to Jan 2021. But she got her Visa after January , so she requested for May term and got it. I hope it makes sense? MEDOLAB: |
Yes, I paid my tuition fee in full after I got the admission. God is faithful o. emmy4Gold: |

I have plenty questions for that person. As we say here, It will end in praise! |

I suggest you defer your program to the next available term. Some applicants since October 2020 are yet to receive a final conclusion on their application. Cheers. Foski01: |

Good evening everyone. Has there been a slew of BVL and PPR in the last few weeks? My medical changed to passed on Jan 28 and radio silence since then. I have refreshed my profile tire, no passport request yet; my mind is longer in Nigeria. Just ranting and want to encourage us all to keep believing that the best will always happen for us. Have a good weekend. |

Bonjour tout le monde. I have started private classes with a tutor, but I want to push myself in terms of self-study, my intention is to write the TEF in 6 months. I realize that needs a lot of extra work. Could anyone share links to free online resources in terms of books and test papers? This is critical for my self-study and all assistance would be appreciated. I also want to ask, if I want to write the exams in the next 6 months, when am I supposed to register? Thank you for responding! |
