Whats taking you to the US?
What do u do presently here

If you pass this 2 questions first ,then the counslar will proceed to
Have you travel out of Nigeria before?
How much do u earn
How many days will u be staying
Where will you be staying

Those 2 first questions are a very technical questions, once you can pass it my brother congrats, he may not ask you anything about your dad provided you did not mention Anything about him while filling your Ds160

I beg u in the name of God,what you are doing presently here as u put it on the Ds160 is exactly what you should said o
Best of luck

Firstly you should have gotten an invitation letter from your Dad, since he's American citizen. It would have been easier for you.

If you're asked if you have a family in US, answer honestly you don't need to lie about anything.

You maybe asked where you'll be staying if given visa, you need to prove that you have family or friends there (they have to write a letter to the embassy inviting you), or you'll need to prove that you have enough money to take care of your welfare throughout your stay there.

You'll also need to show a proof of steady income into your account, the amount has to be more than enough to cover your trip.

Most importantly, you need to convince them that you're gonna return to Nigeria at the end of your visa duration... It's not just by telling them "I'll come back"... You have to show them you own something here that'll make you come back to Nigeria, like a house or business registered in your name.

I wish you best of luck [/quote]

Thank you very much
God bless

Thank you very much for your response.
Firstly It’s not possible to get an invitation letter from my dad as we are not in good terms.
Secondly I’m just 24 finishing my Nysc I don’t have any property yet in Nigeria but all my immediate family are in Nigeria apart from my dad I don’t know if that’s enough I’m just looking for greener pasture. And my mom is the one sponsoring me and I don’t know if I’m asked where I’m staying i should say an hotel or I should provide my friends names in the US (but all my friends are on asylum)does it mean?

Your dad is a citizen of US and you are asking us these questions?
Did I quote you? Must you respond If you were smart you would have understood me by all what I wrote. People that gave me a good respond are not foolish you no just smart to decode things.
You mustn’t respond to everything you don’t understand.

Please I want to know if I’m asked if I have a relative in the US I should say no or yes, because my dad is a citizen in the US with my stepmom but I live with my biological mom and family in Nigeria. So if im asked should I be honest or not? It’s a b1/b2 visa and how much should one have in his or her account for a b1/b2 to prove to the consular to approve the visa

It’s advisable and reasonable not to mention your family because one of the reasons you attend interview is to determine if you will return back to your country. And that is why they ask what will you do with this degree and all sort of questions. Saying your family is presently residing in USA tells them you will stay back and not want to return to Nigeria. Even if na your whole family dey there and you are going for F1 which is non-immigrant visa, just answer no to that question. If you are going for B1/B2, it doesn’t matter if you say yes.
