Producer/singer OJB Jezreel has undergone a successful operation to replace his damaged kidneys. He is currently recuperating in the hospital(Columbia Asia Hospital) and even looks fatter than he looked before he left. The operation was only done after the doctors made sure everything covering the operation would go according to plan. He had travelled to India over a month to undergo a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with renal kidney failure in June of 2013, and pleaded with the public to come to his aid. Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State would come to his aid paying the sum of $100, 000 for his kidney treatment. OJB and his wife Mama J left for India on Friday, August 23, 2013 after gathering the sum of N26m from public donations.

Towards ending the ongoing ASUU strike, the Federal Government has committed to spending N200 billion in the 2014 budget on the universities as well as on each of the next three-four years until the universities are brought to world-class standard as demanded by ASUU leadership. This is in addition to the N100 billion dedicated and already made available… Government has also increased to N40billion as a first installment, funds for payment of earned allowances to the striking lecturers, an improvement from the N30 billion previously released. This information is contained in an internal statement at the Federal University of Otuoke by Professor Bolaji Aluko, its Vice-Chancellor. On the earned allowances, Prof. Aluko said “Government will top it up with further releases once universities are through with the disbursement of this new figure of N40 million, so Vice-Chancellors are urged to expedite this disbursement within the shortest possible time using guiding templates that have been sent by the CVC.” Professor Aluko said the development followed meetings on September 19 and Oct 11 of representatives of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, led by Prof. Hamisu of ATBU and ASUU reps led by its President, Dr. N. Fagge with the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arc. Namadi. Sambo, Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike and others. In the interest of peace, Vice-President Sambo appealed to ASUU to call off the strike and apologized over the “take-it-or-leave-it” comments made by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Other points of agreement at the meetings include the following: Project Prioritization: Universities will now be allowed to determine their priorities and not be “rail-roaded” into implementing a pre-determined set of projects with respect to the NEEDS assessment. Decisions are not to be centralized. TETFund Intervention: Government assured that the operations of the TETFund will not be impaired, and that the regular TETFund intervention disbursement to Universities will continue, unaffected. So the NEEDS assessment capital outlays are in addition to regular TETFund intervention. Project Monitoring: A new Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) for the NEEDS Assessment intervention for universities has been set up to take over from the Suswan Committee. The new one is under the Federal Ministry of Education and chaired by the Honorable Minister of Education. In addition, to build confidence and ensure faithful implementation and prevent any relapse as before, the Vice President will meet quarterly with the IMC to monitor progress. Blueprint: ASUU was mandated to submit a blue print for revitalizing the Universities to the Vice President. ASUU leadership will now meet to decide if the government should be trusted again, this time. |
We all know their old trick where they will not reset the meter to start from zero when they want to sell petrol to you. Their new method is what baffled me and this is rampant in Asaba area. The first time it happened to me, I thought it was actually a mistake as claimed by the attendant until It repeated several times. I visited a filling station in Asaba(name withheld) and there were two persons serving at the pump. The first person asked me, "how much do you want to buy" and I hold her 5 thousand naira. The 2nd guy proceeded to fill my tank resetting the meter to zero and not bothering to confirm the price I want to buy from the lady or me.To my surprise this guy stopped at 1000 naira and when I asked him why he stopped he said he thought I said I wanted to buy 1000 naira( I wondered where he got that message from cus he did not ask me or the lady whom I told I want to buy 5000k). He then pressed some buttons at the meter as if he wanted to reset the meter to zero, meanwhile the thing still reads 1000 naira before he proceeded(if you do not look well you not see the 1 in front of the zeros). Again at 4000 naira He stopped . I now shouted , bros I told you I wanted to buy 5000 naira. He said that if I add the 4k to 1k he gave me initially that it will be 5k. I was confused but when I insisted that he didn't reset the meter. He quietly completed the remaining 1k. This happened again in the same filling station and that was when I realized it was their game. I decided to change filling station and to my greatest surprise they use the same trick in Asaba and so many people are falling victims especially those that do not like to come down from their car while buying fuel. |

BENIN—SIXTEEN days after he was abducted by kidnappers, on his way to Ekpoma from Benin City, Justice Daniel Okungbowa of the Edo State High Court, has regained his freedom in the early hours of Sunday. The state high court judge was abducted while on his way to the Ekpoma division of the high court, three weeks after the release of human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN. The Benin branch of Nigeria Bar Association, had boycotted courts in protest over Okungbowa’s abduction. The protest grounded activities at the state judiciary for over two weeks. It was learnt that Justice Okungbowa was released at 2 a.m by his abductors. It was further learnt that his release was delayed due to negotiation between the kidnappers and the family over the ransom demanded. Vanguard could not confirm whether ransom was paid or not. The Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo, who confirmed his release to Vanguard, yesterday, said the state high court judge had rejoined his family. Mr Adebanjo did not give details of how the judge was released. There was jubilation at the Benin City branch of the NBA, when the news came that the judge had been released. Mr Sam Abasilim, a member of the NBA, Benin City, also confirmed the release to Vanguard. According to him, “We are happy because we were scared due to the delay in releasing him. You are aware that we boycotted court sittings because of his abduction, so we are happy that we will be going back to work now. It is not always easy for members of the Bar to concentrate on their jobs when a judge’s life is in danger. But we thank God for his release and we appeal to security agencies to stop this incessant kidnapping of Nigerians.” |

10. Pheelz Olamide’s in house producer who blessed him with production for Durosoke, Rayban Abacha, Baddo Love and countless other hits for Baddoo himself. Pheelz also worked with Vector and other artists during the past year. 9. Del-B Del B’s work speaks for itself. His work on KCEE’s overwhelming hit single, Limpopo which may end up being the single of the year was exceptional. Del B also produced the smooth single Oko mi by Waje, Irawo by Seyi Shay, Baby Mo by Tiwa Savage, Kcee’s Give It 2 Mefeaturing Flavour and the monster single Shake by Flavour. 8. Maleek Berry Before we knew Maleek Berry, most of us had been dancing to beats and instrumentals he crafted on Sinzu’s Carolina featuring Davido which was a huge tune in the party scene and on radio in 2012. Shortly after the success of Carolina, Wizkid got closer to the British raised producer and signed him to his Starboy Ent imprint, but prior to signing, Maleek Berry got Wizkid to feature on his own single The Matter which is doing well commercially. Maleek also blessed another artist, Wande Coal by producing My Way. Other notable songs delivered by Berry include the very catchy New Bounce ft Wizkid & Phenom and Wande Coal’s latest single Kilaju. 7. Fliptyce If producers collected publishing checks across Africa, Fliptyce would probably be the richest in 2012. Chop My Money remix featuring Akon & May D was a huge success all over the African continent and the usual suspect Fliptyce created its foundation. Fliptyce also blessed the departed Square records artist and now Confam CEO, May D with his biggest single till date Ile Ijo. 6. Legendury Beats The duo producers, Legendury Beatz were involved in creating the beat and instrumental to a single that was supposed to be a mere freestyle but became an undeniable hit for Wizkid’s Azonto. They also laced some beats on the EME Allstar album and scored the first single, Baddest Boy. Recently Legendury Beats produced the debut Star Boy single Carowhich is slowly becoming a party favorite. Other key productions include Brymo’s Ara, Chidinma’s Emini Baller, Drop by Wizkid featuring Wale, to name a few. 5. Shizzi Shizzi proves that he is not a fluke and continues to provide the right sounds to produce hot records. Although he mostly produces for the HKN gang, he delivered 2 stand out singles in 2013 alone, Gobe and Skelewu for the HKN general, Davido which set him apart from many good producers out there. He also produced songs for other notable acts such as May D on his debut album and Wizkid (Body) off the EME All Star Compilation album. 4. Masterkraft One could easily think Masterkraft is merely a good producer that occasionally ends up on a several songs by prominent artist in the Nigerian music industry. However, he is not just a very good producer, he happens to be one of the hottest. In 2012 he produced an impressive list of BIG songs both in Nigeria and across Africa, such as Fine lady by Lynxxx ft Wizkid, Kwarika (Remix) by Flavour ft Fally Ipupa (Massive track among Africans), Girl by Bracket ft Wizkid and Chinny Baby by Flavour and a number of songs off the EME album. 3. Don Jazzy Oliver Twist which is arguably the biggest exported song directly out of Africa in recent memory was produced by none other than Don Jazzy. After the separation from D’banj and the demise of the Mo’hits brand, Jazzy went on to start Mavin records which housed Tiwa Savage, D’Prince, Dr SID and Wande Coal (who has since moved on to start his own label, Black Diamond Ent). Don Jazzy produced about half of Tiwa Savage’s debut album, blessed his blood brother, D’Prince with his Goody Bag single and the Frenzy album. Another notable single he produced is Wande Coal’s The Kick which continues to grow. 2. Sarz Sarz is probably everyone’s favorite producer and if we compiled this list with sentiments, he would have easily made #1. Other than the fact that he produced major hits for superstars such as Wizkid on his hit single Jaiye Jaiye and majority of eLDee’s most recent album, Sarz also has a massive single of his own out now titled Beat of Life (Samba) which has been killing airwaves and clubs for the past year. 1. D-Tunes D-Tunes Again Oooo! If D-Tunes determines in his heart to give an unknown artist a hit single that will be labeled an undeniable hit which then takes said artist to a well recognized level in his/her career, it is safe to say that he can do it a third time. All you have to do is revisit what his production ability and skill-set did for Iyanya and Sean Tizzle on Kukere and Sho Lee respectively. When you think about the biggest song in 2012 and one of the biggest songs of 2013 so far, D-Tunes is stamped on both of them. Show me a producer that has the producer credit for biggest songs 2 years in a row and I crown him hottest producer right now. Who would you like to work with? Filed by @sheedy407 |
