The Tesla Model 3 Goes on Sale This Week When it comes to Elon Musk's ventures, it seems like there's always something to look forward to. This past weekend SpaceX launched its third mission in nine days which came after their historic doubleheader last weekend . Then there's the progress on Musk's "Boring tunnels" under LA But the most recent announcement had more than 400,000 people in wait; those who have signed up for pre-orders for the Tesla Model 3. In a tweet Sunday night, Musk said that the Model 3 has already passed regulatory hurdles. Model 3 passed all regulatory requirements for production two weeks ahead of schedule. Expecting to complete SN1 on Friday — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 3, 2017 He expects that the serial number 1 (SN1) for Tesla's electric vehicle will be finished by the end of this week. Musk also said in a second tweet that the "handover party" for the first 30 Model 3 customers will take place on the 28th of this month. Musk was clearly pleased to make the announcement, and he'd done the legwork ahead of potential questions, too. He also shared on Twitter just how many Model 3s are expected to be rolled out by the end of 2017. Continuing on in his Twitter thread, the Tesla CEO said that they expect 100 cars by August and over 1,500 by September. By December, Tesla hopes to be producing 20,000 Model 3s per month. Looks like we can reach 20,000 Model 3 cars per month in Dec — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 3, 2017 It should come as no surprise that Tesla has ramped up production for the Model 3. Previous reports revealed the Model 3 production line runs on what Musk called an "alien dreadnaught" of Kuka robots. This was certainly the right move, considering the amount of pre-orders Tesla received for the Model 3 was staggering . While the Model 3 is Tesla's most affordable EV yet, the energy company isn't going cheap in terms of its design and capabilities, which will include Tesla's self-driving Autopilot software

The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the All Progressives Congress of conniving with some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission officials to disenfranchise voters by deleting their names from voter registers especially in the opposition party’s strongholds. The Chairman of the PDP in Osun State , Mr. Soji Adagunodo , said this at a press conference he and other leaders of the party addressed in Osogbo on Tuesday ahead of the by -election for Osun West Senatorial District scheduled for July 8 . He also alleged that the ruling party, in connivance with some electoral officers had perfected plans to send wrong electoral materials to polling units in areas where the PDP was popular just to delay the commencement of voting and to manipulate the process in favour of the candidate of the APC, Mudasiru Hussain. The opposition party also claimed that the APC had perfected plans to cause violence in Ede and some other local government areas on election day in order ensure cancellation of the result . “The APC election strategy committee is conniving with certain elements in INEC to recruit OYES cadets and other party sympathisers as presiding officers and polling clerks . Part of the plans is to provide fake NYSC uniforms and distribute same to these elements in order to make them carry out this criminal plan . “There are also plans by the APC to ensure that INEC allocate non-functioning card readers to areas considered as strongholds of the PDP. This , in their thinking , would slow down accreditation of voters and get voters discouraged . “We have credible information about the plans of the APC and the state government to arrange the kidnap and or arrest of leaders of the PDP in certain local government areas on the eve of the July 8th by -election . “As we speak , certain chieftains of the APC have compiled names of their party members and sympathisers to be accredited by INEC as election observers and monitors . “You will recall that 181 of these same elements from Osun State were arrested somewhere in Imo State in 2013, while travelling as fake observers for the Anambra governorship election .” Adagunodo also alleged that the APC was pushing for a shift in the date of the election because it had become obvious that its candidate was not popular among the electorate and they needed more time to repackage him. He advised INEC not to yield to the pressure the APC was allegedly mounting on it to shift the date by three weeks , in order for it not to appear as a puppet of the ruling party. Adagunodo said, “ At the stakeholders ’ meeting we had with INEC in this state, we suggested that the election should hold on 22 nd of July but out of 24 political parties that attended that meeting, 22 parties agreed that it should hold on 22 nd of July with the exception of the APC and one other party that suggested that the election should hold on the 8 th. “The Independent National Electoral Commission has been under immense pressure from the APC leadership to shift the date of the forthcoming by -election by three weeks . We hereby advise INEC to refuse this request as doing so will compromise its integrity and cast a great doubt on its independence as an electoral umpire. ” But the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in Osun State , Mr. Kunle Oyatomi , described the allegations against the ruling party as baseless and product of ‘sick mentality. ’ Oyatomi said the PDP should substantiate all its claims with evidence otherwise the party leaders should be arrested and prosecuted by the police . He said, “We challenge the PDP to go further and authenticate the so -called allegations and identify the so-called leaders of the APC with all the technical , electronic and forensic evidence necessary to prove the allegations. “We also call on the security agents to invite the PDP leaders to convince them of all the allegations, otherwise they should be prosecuted . The APC believes that this allegation of rigging is the product of sick mentality of the Osun PDP and its supporters, who are psychologically tormented by the obsession to win Osun West Senatorial seat by any concoctive and demonic means. “We declare that the APC can never descend to the criminality of accessing electoral materials let alone of planning to rig the forthcoming election . “We are therefore alerting all good people of the state of Osun to discountenance the stupid allegations by the PDP who could not do anything to the constant defeats they have suffered in the hands of APC since 2011.” |
Several houses, church buildings and cars were submerged after a downpour in Ibadan, Oyo State , on Tuesday . This is just as many residents of Owerri , Imo State , were left devastated after floods destroyed their houses and goods. In Ibadan , the rain started in some areas on Monday evening and continued until early Tuesday . In other parts of the city, the rain began in the middle of the night till around 9am on Tuesday . Most of the affected areas were located close to the banks of some rivers, including Orogun , Akinyele, Onipepeye on Old Ife Road, Dandaru Junction on Mokola/ UCH Road and Olodo. One of our correspondents visited some of the flooded areas and observed that many residents were trapped in their houses by the floods . While many of them stood on elevated makeshift platforms in front of their homes , others took refuge on rooftops and higher floors of their houses . In Orogun , a church building was submerged in water. Despite efforts of men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to bring those trapped in the house of God to safety, they said they preferred to stay on an elevated platform until the water subsided. At the Onipepeye area on Old Ife Road, many houses were affected as the water swept several cars from where they were parked . Some of the affected owners of the houses blamed residents who dumped rubbish into the rivers and streams in their areas for the incident . They also called on the state government to enforce the state environmental law . Other residents blamed the government for sacking private waste management companies with no alternative arrangement . The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Adisa Isola, said the government made efforts to avert the incident . He blamed the flooding on those who built and shops on water channels . He said, “ Many people are complying with environmental laws in the state now . We started preparing for this in December 2016 through a World Bank assisted project . Fourteen rivers and streams were dredged. This year , we have dredged 36 streams and rivers. “This cannot be repeated every year because it is just a palliative measure . That is why we are working on three master plans for Ibadan that will take care of this issue. “The attitude of our people is responsible for this flooding. They have refused to obey the setback rules and instead , they build houses on river channels . It puts pressure on the drainage channels .” The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command of the NSCDC, Oluwole Olusegun, told our correspondent that a team , led by the state commandant, John Adewoye , rescued many people who were trapped in the floods . He said, “ Due to the heavy rain in the early hours of today ( Tuesday ) , many rivers overflowed their boundaries. The officers and men of the NSCDC, led by the state commandant, John Adewoye , cordoned some roads off in order to rescue people. “Some people were , however, adamant on staying in their homes until the water subsided.” In Owerri , the rain which started at about 3. 30 pm and ended about 5. 01 pm on Monday forced traders to close shops, while some residents were trapped in residential buildings. A trader, Mr. Isdore Okeukwu , who had a shop on Chikwere Street , said all his goods were destroyed . He attributed the flooding to the poor drainage channels in the capital city. Okeukwu said, “The drainage channels are all blocked , but the government has not made any effort to clear them. “Rubble from destroyed property along the roads in the name of urban renewal projects also blocked the drainage channels , leading to this mess.” A resident of the capital city, Mrs . Juliet Ndiagaba, told our correspondent that she had been rendered homeless. Ndiagaba, a widow , said, “My bed, TV, files and other valuables were destroyed by the flood. ” She told PUNCH Metro that she went to work , adding that by the time she came back, her apartment had been flooded. She said, “ My children are on mid -term break and they have been in the house of my elder brother for the one -week break , no person was around to save any property.” A senior officer of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission, who requested that his name should not be mentioned, said the flooding was due to lack of adequate drainage system . “The high level of destruction of property and roads in the metropolis also caused the flooding . Everywhere had been blocked by the rubble from property destroyed for urban renewal projects . ”

The 28-year-old midfielder, who was signed by Mourinho in January 2014, played an instrumental role as Chelsea won the Premier League title last season. But despite becoming a mainstay of Antonio Conte's side, Matic feels the time is right for a change of club after failing to secure a move away last summer. |

Happy father's day to all the dads and dads-to-be out there. When I learned I was going to be a new father, I was floored ... and scared. To counter the fear of becoming new parents, my wife and I read. And read and read and read. We rounded up about a dozen science-backed books, scanned countless research studies, downloaded pregnancy apps, and shared hundreds of articles with each other over the following months. Five Amazing Facts about babies 1. Babies can hear inside (and outside) the womb, and the uterus is very noisy. Most of the ear structures required to pick up sound are formed by week 16. From then on, a mom's heartbeat, eating, breathing, walking, talking, exercising, burping, and digestive gurgling can easily be heard by a developing baby. This may help explain why babies find noise so comforting. There's also some evidence to suggest babies learn to recognise and react to mom's voice while inside the womb. Sources: Pediatrics , CDC, WhatToExpect.com 2. Babies open their eyes inside the womb and can see light from the outside. Although a baby's eyes can 'see' light starting around week 16, their peepers aren't fully formed until about week 20. The eyes first open between weeks 26 and 28. Their vision is rather blurry, but they can see - and respond with a flutter of activity to - bright sources of light like the sun or a flashlight pointed at a woman's belly. Getting outside often might even help a baby's eyes develop and reduce the risk of a few eye disorders. Sources: Office on Women's Health, WhatToExpect.com 3. Babies swim in and drink their own pee for about 25 weeks. Babies start to pee inside the amniotic sac around week eight, though urine production really picks up between weeks 13 and 16 (when kidney development is more complete). They can start drinking this mix of pee and amniotic fluid around week 10 or 11, or when a layer of cells blocking their mouths - called the buccopharyngeal membrane - ruptures, allowing the baby to swallow. By week 20 most of the amniotic fluid is urine. Cheers, kids. Sources: March of Dimes , Nature, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists 4. Babies can taste and smell the food mom eats in the womb. Flavour molecules from food that a mom eats pass from her blood, through the placenta, and into a baby's amniotic fluid. And since taste buds start to develop around week 11 (right as the mouth opens up), a baby can taste whatever mum eats from then on — though a sense of taste is stronger around weeks 28 and 29, when taste buds are fully mature. Babies also snort up amniotic fluid, and it's thought they can smell food, too. Sources: The Informed Parent: A Science-Based Resource for Your Child's First Four Years, Origins: How the Nine Months Before Birth Shape the Rest of Our Lives 5. Babies cry in the womb. Seeing is believing for this one. Researchers accidentally made the discovery while studying mothers who used cigarettes or cocaine. After playing a sound on the pregnant mothers' bellies, ultrasound videos showed the babies startling, opening their mouths, and gasping. Even the dreaded (and cute) quiver chin is visible. NEWS Teacher suffocates pupil to death for making noise A nursery school pupil Guo Jintong , suffocated to death after her teacher allegedly taped her mouth shut because she was talking too much during morning exercise. The incident happened at the Huadian Experimental Kindergarten in north -eastern China ’ s Jilin Province. The six-year -old Jintong was pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived about 30 minutes after she had already been reported unconscious . She claimed tape and possibly even glue was used to seal her shut and she was “smothered ” to death in a few short minutes . Realising the girl appeared “abnormal ”, her teacher brought her to the school nurse who called an ambulance. The child was taken to hospital , but doctors said they were “unable to bring her back” . R.I.P to those who died. |
When a fire broke out at Grenfell Tower housing block in west London early Wednesday morning, a number of occupants were able to escape. One of them was 15th floor resident Christos Fairbairn, 41, who has told his story. (Readers may find some details of his account distressing.) I live on the 15th floor of Grenfell Tower. I moved there two years ago. At around 12.45am on Wednesday morning I was watching TV when I heard aggressive knocking at my door. I heard more activity and noise outside and shortly after I heard an alarm go off in the building. I saw smoke coming into the flat and that's when I realised there was a fire. I rang the fire service and they told me to get out. They said: "Wrap a wet towel around yourself and get out of the block." But I opened the door and the smoke was so thick I couldn't. I tried to leave the flat three times and each time the smoke was too thick. I started to panic. I began banging on the window shouting: "Help me, help me, I'm stuck!" I tried to open the window but I burnt my hand on the melted plastic. I could see police outside and people just standing there. It felt like they were just watching me. Then I realised if I don't go I would die here. I wrapped a wet jumper around myself and ran out of the door with just the clothes on my back and my phone. The smoke was black and it was so hot and I couldn't breathe but I kept going. I could feel myself tripping over in the dark. I was tripping over bodies. On one of the floors I tripped badly and fell, as I looked up I saw the face of a dead man. I can still picture him now. As I got to the third or fourth floor I was choking and couldn't breathe. I started to feel faint. I collapsed and that's when I felt a firefighter grab me. I went to hospital and was treated for smoke inhalation. I had so much poison in my lungs. I was crying and having flashbacks. Now I am left with nothing and have nowhere to live. But the council have paid for a room for me in Earl's Court in London where I am staying now. I can't believe I am alive. I will never forget what happened and how traumatising it was. I know I will never live in a tower block again. I feel lucky to be alive but I am devastated for those who were injured and lost their lives. Life is so short I know I will see my family and friends more now and appreciate the life I have. I shouldn't be here today but I am, and for that I am thankful.

James Bond actor Roger Moore dies aged 89 Family confirms death in Switzerland after bout with cancer of British actor who played the iconic spy in seven films. Tell us what you think Stay Informed Subscribe to our newsletter to receive weekly updates SUBSCRIBE Show Comments Roger Moore, the longest-serving actor to play the iconic British spy James Bond, has died in Switzerland aged 89 after a brief bout with cancer. His family confirmed on Tuesday via Twitter that "our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today". "We are all devastated," the message said. Moore acted in a total of seven James Bond films, including The Man With the Golden Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me. Born in London on October 14, 1927, Moore - the only child of a policeman - studied painting before enrolling in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. James Bond franchise Moore played a few small roles in theatre and films before his mandatory army duty, then moved to Hollywood in the 1950s. In 1954, he appeared opposite Elizabeth Taylor in The Last Time I Saw Paris and with Eleanor Parker in Interrupted Melody the following year. James Bond exhibition examines his image Beginning with Live and Let Die in 1973, Moore would make six more James Bond films: The Man With the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Octopussy, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only and A View to a Kill over the next 12 years. And while the Bond of the Ian Fleming novels that the films were based on was generally described as being in his 30s, Moore would stay with the role until he was 57. He continued to work regularly in films after handing over Bond to Timothy Dalton, but never with the same success. His post-Bond films included such forgettable efforts as The Quest with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Spice World with the Spice Girls. UNICEF role In 1991, Moore became a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, having been introduced to the role by the late actress Audrey Hepburn. As Hepburn had, he threw much of his energy into the task. "I felt small, insignificant and rather ashamed that I had traveled so much making films and ignored what was going on around me," he said in describing how the work had affected him. Moore received the Dag Hammarskjold Inspiration Award for his work with UNICEF and was named a commander in France's National Order of Arts and Letters in 2008, an award he said was worth "more than an Oscar". That same year he published an autobiography, My Word Is My Bond, which included details about his work on the Bond films, his friendship with Hepburn, his encounters with Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and other stars, and his health struggles - including a bout with prostate cancer, which he beat.
