I don't really know much about the Abewela's story. I know there is a street or road in Ife called Abewela and I heard he was the one that recalled the modakeke because his mum was oyo, after they were sacked by Derin. Olubuse 1 (sijuwade's grandfather) sacked modakeke again only for Ademiluyi from Otutu, lafogido to bring them back to increase Ife's population so as to get a fatter allowance from the colonial masters.

OP, that report is false. I wonder why the media keep muddling into ife traditional affairs. The Kingmakers will ask ruling house 3 out of the four ruling houses to present their candidates. The Ogboru ruling will not be asked to present a candidate. This follows the precedent when Osinkola ruling house was not asked to present a candidate when Oba Adesoji Aderemi waja.
According to Ife custom and tradition there is no order of rotation in the presentation of candidates by the respective ruling houses. From the twentieth century to date, the last five Ooni’s have come from three not four ruling Houses. Prior to these Obas above who reigned in the 20th century, Lafogiddo had produced 7 Oonis, Osinklola had produced 3, Giesi had produced 6 and Ogboru had produced 2.
Attempts may have been made in the past between 1957 and 1979 to establish an order of rotation but these failed and rotation was jettisoned by the Kingmakers in the one and only exercise in 1980. There are already indications that virtually all the eligible ruling houses are preparing list of candidates.
