PoliticsAisha Buhari Left Party For Her Husband by shoczy(op): 7:40am On Jul 20, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha, has left the children’s party, saying he needed to go home and cook dinner for her husband. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari (m), During Children’s Eid El-Fitr Party She Hosted At The Banquet Hall Of The Presidential Villa. Photo: NAN She said that despite her current status as mother of Nigeria, she still prepares her husband’s meal personally. Mrs. Buhari made this known when she welcomed children from various parts of the country in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to a party to mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration at the presidential villa, Abuja. READ ALSO: Aisha Buhari Donates Food To Women Associations In Kano After watching some of the children in dancing, beauty and other contests, the president’s wife excused herself and left the party party. She said: “I’m going to leave you soon. I want to go back home to cook for my husband because my children are here playing with you. Nobody is at home, only my husband. So, I want to go back home to be with him and also cook dinner for him.” Wives of ex-presidents in Nigeria had always let the excess of chefs and waiters employed to work in their official residence to do the cooking for the first family, while they take the status of First Lady, with cortege of assistants surrounding them. However, Mrs. Buhari dennounced herself as Nigeria’s First Lady when her husband taken office as president. The president’s wife has also called on children to be thankful to God that they were here celebrating the Sallah with her, unlike many other less favored children out there without the required things of life to cater for themselves. She stated that the Sallah party organised by her, among other reasons, underlines the importance the present government led by her husband attaches to the welfare, protection and development of Nigerian children. Mrs. Buhari said: “ On occasions like this, we celebrate with Nigerian children, especially the less privileged, including those in the various internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp. We love, appreciate and share with their present situation.

The Barcelona star was a guest of President Ali Bongo Ondimba on Saturday to lay the ground for a new facility that will host matches of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Barcelona star Lionel Messi spent a part of his vacation on a visit to Gabon on Saturday where he helped to lay the foundation for a new 20,000-seat stadium in Port-Gentil. The Argentina captain was a guest of President Ali Bongo Ondimba. He signed autographs for many joyous fans before he was driven in a presidential convoy to the scene of the foundation laying ceremony. "When I was in Barcelona a few years ago, I saw Messi and he said he would come to visit me in Libreville," President Bong told media. "It was a promise which he made to me. He is a man of honour, one who has kept his word. The calendar worked out well and it has corresponded with the laying of the first stone," the Gabonese leader added. Port-Gentil, Gabon’s second biggest city, will be home to matches during the 2017 Afcon. Gabon co-hosted the 2012 tournament with Equatorial Guinea. They would hope to do better than the quarter final finish from the last time.

Something strange is happening to residents of the Kalachi village in Kazakhstan. They just can’t seem to keep their eyes open. Every day, several villagers just fall asleep in broad daylight and remain asleep for at least a couple of hours. Some of them have reported only waking up after a couple of days. There is no apparent reason for these “sleep incidents,” and more than 100 residents have inexplicably fallen asleep when they weren’t tired over the course of a few years. In September 2014, several children who were attending school on the first day of the new academic year also fell asleep for no reason. Medical experts were unable to come up with a verified explanation, much less a “cure” or form of prevention. Naturally, some of those who suffer from this “condition” are terrified that they might die in their sleep. Some of the “sleepers” have reported strange feelings of memory loss, vertigo, and extreme nausea after waking from their sleep. Other symptoms even include hallucinations. In addition to all this, doctors have found that some of the people suffering from this ailment have suffered other health scares such as brain dysfunction and even strokes. The sleeping villagers are not good for the economy; not only are there hours of work lost, but fear is causing many people to leave the area. Radiation levels have been tested in the area but nothing abnormal has been found. Ongoing investigations have yet to turn up any clues as to why this strange affliction has befallen the little village. In 2015, scientists found high concentrations of carbon monoxide in the town. While the findings aren’t conclusive, they may provide one more clue in this mystery.

Francis Leavy was a dedicated firefighter during the 1920s. He loved
his job, and his peers loved him. He was a pleasant man, always
ready with a smile and a helping hand. On April 18, 1924, Francis’s
colleagues became aware of a change in his demeanor. Suddenly,
he was an unsmiling, grunting guy washing a large window at the
Chicago Fire Department, not looking at anyone or talking.
After a few minutes, Leavy suddenly announced that he had a
strange feeling—a feeling that he might die that very day. At that
very moment, the phone rang and broke the heavy atmosphere
brought on by the fireman’s words. A fire was raging at a building
quite a long way from the fire department, and no time was to be
wasted.
In just a few minutes, Francis Leavy and his fellow firefighters were
on the scene, assessing the situation and helping those trapped on
the top floors. Everything seemed to be on track to rescue everyone
from the building. Then, suddenly, the flames engulfed the lower
part of the building, and the roof caved in. As soon as this
happened, the walls came crashing down, pinning many people
under the rubble—including Leavy. Leavy’s grim premonition came
true. He lost his life that day trying to save others.
The very next day, trying to come to terms with the loss of Leavy,
his colleagues sat at the firehouse thinking about the events of the
previous day. Suddenly, they noticed something strange on one of
the windows. It looked like a handprint smudged onto the glass.
Eerily, it was the very same window that Francis Leavy was busy
washing the day before.
The firemen cleaned the window again, but the print stubbornly
refused to disappear. For many years, the handprint remained on
the window in spite of chemicals used to try and remove it. The
strange mystery remained unsolved, but came to an abrupt end

CultureChinese Dwarfs Village by shoczy(op): 5:22pm On Jul 17, 2015
Villages in general are not strange. Villages in China are also not strange. There are many remote ones in this country, but one stands out from the others. Scientists and experts are extremely interested in the inhabitants of Yangsi, situated in the Sichuan Province. The reason? Not only are there only 80 residents in the village, but almost half of them are dwarfs. Rumor has it, according to those who live in Yangsi, that a mysterious disease befell the little village more than 60 years ago. Young children between the ages of five and seven were most affected, and the disease caused them to simply stop growing. Experts now know that stunted growth is only likely to appear in 1 in 20,000 people, so what happened in Yangsi is something very much out of the ordinary. Especially considering that historic sightings of the dwarfs claim that several hundred of them were residing in the Sichuan region at one point . As if the mystery affliction wasn’t bad enough, some of the children struck by it started suffering from a variety of disabilities. As adults, some of the afflicted gave birth to children who also only grew to around 1 meter (3 ft) in height. The Chinese government has never allowed visitors to the village, inevitably opening up the story to a host of urban legends. It has been said that the citizens felt dark forces had invaded their homes and started believing that they were cursed due to their ancestors’ anger over improper burials. Others apparently believe a turtle to be the source of the problem. Some of the villages cooked and ate a black turtle and, soon after, the strange disease hit Yangsi. After all this time, however, it seems that the residents are growing out of the disease. The younger generation has seemingly been spared.

Hazard is the only EPL player that make 2015 UEFA Best Player in Europe UEFA released a shortlist of the finalists for its 2015 Best Player in Europe Award on Wednesday. Stars from Champions League finalists Barcelona and Juventus, including Lionel Messi and Paul Pogba, predictably dominate the list. European football’s governing body broke the news on the premier club competition’s official Twitter feed: Chelsea’s creative winger Eden Hazard is the lone Premier League figure to challenge a La Liga and Serie A monopoly. UEFA’s official site provides a more detailed breakdown of a list that also includes Real Madrid’s free-scoring forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The heavy Barca-Juve flavour should come as no surprise. The Catalan club won the the treble, spearheaded by a three-pronged attack of Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, all of whom made the list. Meanwhile, Juve’s treble hopes were dashed by Barca, but the Old Lady’s domestic double was built on midfield dominance. Athletic warrior Pogba is joined by Father Time playmaker Andrea Pirlo and tenacious workhorse Arturo Vidal. Among the notable stars to miss the cut are Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. Bacca bagged 28 goals for Sevilla, including two to help win the Europa League final, perWhoScored.com. Meanwhile, Sanchez hit 25 goals to help Arsenal retain the FA Cup, per the club’s official site. His and Bacca’s omissions should certainly raise a few eyebrows. It’s safe to assume the winner will come from one of last season’s Champions League finalists. Expect Messi and his forward mates to dominate the order.

The Indian Tiger and the Chinese Dragon have had their days and it's
now the African Lion's turn
Mara Group Founder, Ashish Thakkar

(CNN)— From banking to hospitality and real estate to e-commerce,
Ashish Thakkar built his vast business empire from scratch.
The
Ugandan tycoon started small with a little computer shop that kept
him busy after leaving school at 15. These days, his Mara Group spans
over 20 countries and he's been called " Africa's youngest billionaire."
In late 2013 Thakkar joined forces with the former boss of Barclays
bank -- Bob Diamond -- to start an investment fund focused on Africa
called Atlas Mara . The powerful duo raised $325 million through a
share flotation - well above the $250 million target.
But his vision spans beyond Africa, and Earth -- Thakkar was the first
African to sign up for the opportunity to travel to space with Richard
Branson's company, Virgin Galactic.

CNN's Marketplace Africa spoke to Thakkar about African innovation,
entrepreneurship and collaboration. An edited version of the interview
follows.

CNN: You are active in several African countries. How is the current
business landscape on the continent?

Ashish Thakkar : Right now in the last 18 years I have been active on
the continent, I have never seen so much global excitement around
Africa that I've seen today. The climate and the ease of doing business
on the continent has drastically improved. Unfortunately, it's one of
those cases where perception is so different from reality. The reality on
the ground is so much better than the perception. You've got to
remember, as Africa, we are 54 countries. Some of the countries may
be challenging and may have issues, but that cannot be an excuse to
generalize the entire continent which is unfortunately something that
happens quite a bit.

CNN: Why do you think that entrepreneurs are so important to the
future growth of the African continent?

AT : We have a very young demographic -- 85% of our populations are
under the age of 35. We have an extremely entrepreneurial society and
culture. Yet, entrepreneurship is not in the education system. Where
do our entrepreneurs go for advice and the right guidance? And it's
something, frankly, that I am extremely passionate about, because the
answer to unemployment is not foreign direct investment or large scale
manufacturing plants, etc. It's going to be nurturing small and medium
enterprises. So, it's great to see that there is a real entrepreneurial
vibe coming into the system, and innovation is totally embedded into
that.

CNN: What is it about Africa that encourages innovation?

AT : The biggest advantage we have at the moment, and you've seen
this with mobile phone penetration, is that we don't have legacy
systems. We didn't have landlines and we didn't need them. We didn't
have to go through that hassle of creating landlines everywhere. We
leapfrogged straight into mobile telephony. Today, we have over 750
million phones on the continent -- more than North America and
Western Europe put together.
Now this is how you take a selfie! wink

We can actually leapfrog in so many different ways. Mobile money is
another brilliant example. Mobile money was created in Kenya. The
whole concept of having money on your phone, which is the best
thing because it's secure, it's practical, made more sense. So, these
kind of innovations, you're going to see a lot more of on the
continent. I spend a lot of time with young entrepreneurs when I travel
across the continent, and just seeing the kind of innovation and new
ideas and concepts that they're coming up with is just so inspiring.

CNN: What advice would you give to a young entrepreneur who's just
starting out?

AT : Entrepreneurship is a journey, it's not a destination. There are
going to be so many challenges, you are going to get knocked down
so many times, but you've got to get up, dust yourself off and get
back to it. The persistence, the passion, and staying on course is very
crucial. You'll be tempted to cut corners, you'll be tempted to do
things that get you there quicker, but it never lasts. People say the
youth are the leaders of tomorrow - we're not. We're the leaders of
today, but it's our responsibility to take the seat at the table.

CNN: What needs to be done most urgently to grow African
economies?

AT : Pan-African collaboration is extremely important. I think things
like regional integration, inter-African trade does need to increase and
is increasing. I mean, the progress in the East African community has
been amazing. The manner in which they've harmonized so many
different laws and policies and mindset and priorities within that
region has been fantastic. So, we need to see more of that take place
on the continent. The fact that we're 54 countries, yet we're a billion
people is an advantage and a disadvantage. I think to strengthen our
weakness in that collaboration across the continent is crucial.

CNN: Are you confident about the future of the continent?

AT : I am so bullish and so proud of how the continent has evolved in
terms of leadership, the mindset of our leaders. It is so inspiring to see
that. It's unfortunate that, you know, globally the highlight remains
things like Ebola...The little issues that we do have are just magnified,
yet on the broad scale we are doing so amazing.

CNN: Is this Africa's century?

AT : Mara's logo is the African Lion and our little joke, which a lot of
people don't appreciate, hence I love it even more, is that the Indian
Tiger and the Chinese Dragon have had their days and it's now the
African Lion's turn. And it genuinely is -- this is our turn.

The wife of Nigeria’s president elect speaking in a recent interview
published by Tribune, said that she is beginning to think the glory of
the office died with the late Mariam Babangida.
Aisha Buhari during a women campaign rally in Edo state
Read excerpts from the interview below:
You urged people not to stone anybody, why are you taking the path
of peace?
Since democracy has come to stay, we are supposed to practise it
like we practise our religions. Our children copy from us so, we
should never preach violence. We have to play politics with morality,
integrity and with capacity, not violence.

Judging by all the bashes that the current first lady gets from
different quarters, are you in anyway scared of taking this position?
No, I am not scared because I know my limitations and boundaries.
Once you attempt to go beyond where you should be, you can
receive all sorts of things.
Who are those you would say inspired you as a woman?
Every woman that can stand up for herself and on her own,
indomitable women and courageous women, those are my role
models.
What are your plans for the office of the first lady when your
husband assumes office?
First of all, as you said that the current first lady is receiving bashes
from all corners of the country. The former first lady, late Mariam
Babangida, may her soul rest in peace, introduced the office of the
first lady, but I am beginning to think that she died with the glory of
the office. I think I will prefer to be called the wife of the president of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria than the first lady of Nigeria.
READ ALSO: Buhari Promises To Treat All Nigerians Equally
When you start performing as the first lady, what are those things
you will have in place as your give back to the people?
Like they normally ask me some questions about pet projects,
because some past first ladies normally had theirs, for me, maybe I
may have, but I don’t have one now because there are a lot of
problems in the country and there are lots of women with good
ideas. If I decided to come up with one programme, that will divert
everybody’s attention and I think the rest of the programme may not
come up or may not survive. If there are genuine projects from
different people, I will help champion the programmes rather than me
having only one pet programme.
Mrs. Aisha Buhari was born on the 17th of February 1971. She comes

4 Things We Learned From ‘Allelu’ by Wale, Olamide, Don Jazzy
and Reekado Banks
Yesterday Don Jazzy, Wale, Olamide and Reekado Banks blessed us
with the first international collaboration for 2015 with Maybach
Music artiste, Wale kickstarting the song. Listen here
It’s too early to judge but early thoughts suggest the song won’t
make our list of international collaborations that turned out hits
despite featuring 2 industry heavyweights in Don Jazzy and
Olamide. Allelu premiered on Toolz hosted show, Afternoon Drive
on Beat FM.
We have listened to the song at the minimum of 50 plays and we
have learned certain things or rather, made deductions from the
uptempo song. While we aren’t sure of some, we present to you 4
things we learned from the joint.
1. Reekado Banks replaced Wizkid
21 year old Mavin Records artiste, Reekado Banks laced the hook of
Allelu. He did well on the Maleek Berry produced track but our
findings and intellect show Leyi better known as Reekado Banks
replaced Starboy chief Wizkid on the song.
Wale’s verse on the song had leaked before in a studio session video
& freestyle and the video showed he was going to be releasing the
afrobeat vibe with Wizkid, which will make their collabos 3. But for
unknown reasons Wizkid pulled out of the song and we won’t be
surprised, at all, if Don Jazzy is the man that brought in his kid.
Olamide also gave props to Wizkid on his verse which was off point
as Wizzy wasn’t on the record.
2. Wale knows his roots quite well
Washington DC rapper Wale real name, Olubowale Victor
Akintimehin proved on Allelu that he knows his Ondo and Nigeria
roots quite well but he’s been away for too long to connect properly.
He delivered some lines that showed he is from here 100%.
“Moyege, halleluyah moyege,” is a cut from a popular song that was
a favorite in Nigerian churches in the 1990s, Wale used this line on
the song. He also gave props to Ondo & his mother. “Baba Folarin,
omo olowo, London tonight and it’s Lagos tomorrow, DC is home,
Ondo my mama…,” he rapped.
“Call me Akata, too may tattoos,” another line where he proved he
is connected. Akata is a term for a Nigerian that has lost his/her way
to American culture. He also had some egusi, with gucci on the
plate, apparently.
Wale further (kind of) confirmed Reekado Banks replaced Wizkid at
the beginning of his verse he said “Holla at Wiz like prrrr is you
home?,”
3. Olamide is better at his usual self
YBNL chief Olamide rapped mostly on Allelu in English a move that
we can’t call a failure, he was decent but his craft is better when he
drops heavy street lines in his local dialect, Yoruba.
Olamide probably decided to throw lines in English because he
wants to better Wale on Allelu.
Imagine Olamide made reference to Obesere, Malaika, Salawa Abeni
or KWAM 1 on the song instead of The Notorious B.I.G, Wiz Khalifa
and Queen Latifa… His lines would have connected to his audience
more. Decent verse though
4 Don Jazzy needs to be scarce again
Don Jazzy has featured on the last two albums released by a top
Nigerian artiste (Street OT & Double Trouble), which is very weird
judging by his history. Don Dorobucci rose to fame (musically)
dropping classic hooks on D’Banj’s (Mo’Hits) records and
mesmerizing D’Banj’s ad-libs when Koko master wants to perform
but these days he is everywhere and even featured on Iyanya’s last
video, Gift .
We can’t recall any classic or very good verse Don Jazzy has dropped
but he is iconic when he drops hooks or introduces a song like he
recently did on Dorobucci and Looku Looku. That is his strength,
hooks or chorus like Nate Dogg (RIP). He has however dropped too
many verses lately which needs to be reduced so his fans can thirst
again.
He is better when he makes less than frequent appearance.
Remember Don Jazzy hardly talks during Mo-Hits era?Perhaps he
knows this that is why he does hooks/intro for his label but for
others he does verses because that is what he has been paid to do
Don Jazzy lasted barely 16 seconds on Allelu another sign of his
weakness at verses.
