I need advice on a decision I’m struggling to make. I’ve been living in Lagos for six years now, and I initially came here for a specific purpose—let’s call it a hustle. Over the years, this hustle has been sustaining me financially. However, I’ve recently started working online, and the income I earn online is now significantly more than what I make from the hustle.
The good thing is, both the hustle and my online work can be done from anywhere. This has got me thinking seriously about relocating because, to be honest, I don’t like Lagos. I’ve realized I’m more comfortable in quiet, peaceful environments, away from the noise, crowds, and fast-paced lifestyle of cities like Lagos or Port Harcourt. I’m naturally drawn to living in a village or a calm rural area, either in my hometown or elsewhere.
Here’s the problem: when I shared this plan with my family, particularly my elder sister and my dad, they strongly opposed it. They said I’m too young (I’m 27) to move back to the village and that it’s a waste of the opportunity I’ve created for myself in Lagos. They believe staying in Lagos will open more doors for me in the future, while moving to the village might limit my progress.
Now I’m stuck. On one hand, I feel relocating would bring me peace and happiness. On the other hand, I don’t want to disappoint my family or make a decision I might regret.
What would you do if you were in my position? Should I follow my instincts and relocate, or should I stay in Lagos as my family suggests?
Not village yet, you are young. Outskirts of town or neighbouring state.
Asonaijaaso: She has played party politics very well, Wait till she gets to general elections. I have my own achievements, which i wont boast here to you. But i have not had to disparage or denigrate others as an unscrupulous social or political climber. Kemi was the one using her bully pulpit as the leader of the opposition to bully Nigerians from her high horse. Kemi Badenoch lacks emotional intelligence, lacks accountablility and also lacks empathy. She reeks of narcisistic tendencies. She picked the wrong country to mess with this time..... Obama was President, Rishi Sunak was prime minister....Kemi is just leader of a minority party and she is already talking recklessly. Rishi Sunak did not disparage Indians or denigrate them, he still lost the general elections...where is kemi going with such reckless statements Òmó ale jati jati, onijekujé, akotiletá, Óde buruku........
Calm down sir, Kemi is not reading all these abuses that you are raining on her. I think you are over-reacting considering you do not know her and she does not know you.
People and countries have been messing with Nigeria left, right and center and nothing happens, so I can proactively confirm to you that Nigeria can do nothing to Kemi. The most the Nigerian government can do is to pay people stipends to insult her online. Nothing more.
Even if Kemi had not made her remarks against Nigerian politicians, there is little hope of her winning the next elections. So let us not say she is reducing her chances of winning because of her utterances. You and I know the real reason why her party (not her) will not win the next general elections.
Asonaijaaso: Kemi is a socio-political climber. She doesnt know how politics is played.
Obama has never disparaged kenya or kenyans Rishi Sunak has never disparaged India or Indians
But, kemi being the idiot she is......opens her loud mouth to disparage Nigeria and Nigerians. Instead of issuing an apology, she doubles down with a divisive rhetoric, that she is Yoruba and not associating with Nigeria.
Is this kemi girl smart ? She definitely doesn't have the average smartness the average Nigeria is born with. Even if she is just civil Nigerians, the online warriors will defend her...... But she decides to alienate us.....The average Nigeria will continue to disparage her online, till she walks.
Because she is black, they have decided to make the racist statements through her mouth. Because you cant accuse a black person of being racist towards blacks.
You lie here. She is smart. Using her brains and strategy she has played her politics SO WELL that she has become the leader of the opposition party in one of the world's strongest countries. Pray tell sir, what have you achieved? If you did not know, no amount of online bullying by Nigerians will affect her seat in the UK.
To remind you, it was only 6 years ago that the British PM David Cameron called Nigeria a fantastically corrupt country.
EmperorCaesar: Stop sounding incoherent on the thread If you havent read vast enough to know what to contribute relevantly to a thread like this, then just go to kiddies section and go discuss Mortal Kombat
How bad is the situation over there?
You are here castigating someone for not reading vast enough, when in a previous thread you claimed that Kemi Badenoch is not Nigerian. Are you not silly to dish advice you have not taken. Lazy Nigerian youths! Go fix your education because it is useless.
One day they will show her the color of skin and remind her where she came from. That day will come and she will look back like John Fashanu has (that he even had to relocate back home) and it would be too late
Nigeria will in twenty years be better than the UK she ran to
Expose your ignorance- a simple google search would have let you know that John Fashanu is doing very well. Nigerian youths, you guys are lazy readers. Very Lazy. John Fashanu is still in the UK and he has more money than you will ever have in your life.
All you guys do all day is play online games instead of studying and gaining information. The article below is from four days ago - John Fashanu was worth 17 million pounds four days ago. How many pounds do you have?
You sure have issues with comprehension and thats not my fault
This is ridiculous. Nigerian youths, you guys need to read. I have noticed that the average Nigerian does not understand sarcasm. There is a big problem with our educational system. But then are we going to blame our educational system forever? What do you use your internet for? Do you read to improve yourself or you just play online games?
You say that she is non-Nigerian- Lord have mercy, how do I start to teach an adult this? One day when I return, first thing I will do is open a free library.
A child from a Nigerian mother and Nigerian father who grew up in Nigeria is a what? You do not know?!?!?!?!
EmperorCaesar: Useless rants of an irrelevant UK citizen
Since you do not know and you can't use google, here goes: Kemi Badenoch, was elected as the first Black leader of Britain’s Conservative Party, which has produced more prime ministers than any other party in the UK since the country had its first prime minister in 1721. Given the Conservative Party’s track record of producing prime ministers, Olukemi Olufunto Badenoch, née Adegoke, could become the UK’s first British-Nigerian prime minister!
Episode22: Hello Nairalanders, I'm not here to brag, I just need advice before I get lost.
I have two relatives living abroad (UK), both are from my mothers side, same father and same mother...
Just few days ago, I was called and told that they are making plans to send me to the UK early next year to go and stay with my uncle and find something doing there... they already communicated with my uncle abroad, and they just wanted to surprise me.
I'm 29 years old now, I graduated from school last two years as a petroleum engineering. Though, I'm not doing any work for now. My girlfriend is pregnant for me, and I have not disclosed it to anybody yet.
But the truth is that my mind doesn't want to go, I'm not ready and I have told them. They have already started telling me this is a one time opportunity, and that if I miss it, I won't see it again, but I have made up my mind that I don't want to go.
I just can't leave my friends here, I just don't know but I can't..
I need advice,
Why should I go, when my self and my mind is not ready...
I beg you in God's name. Do not make the mistake of letting this opportunity pass you by. Several decades ago. I was just 16 and my parents wanted me to go to Canada or Sweden, I was afraid and refused. Till today, with grown up kids and the fact that I still ended up in Canada deeply regret not taking that opportunity at that young age. Go, and if you do not like it after 5 years return. Please get on the plane. Your mind will be prepared once you get on that plane.
BreconHills: I am certainly not the age of your brother but let's take it that on NL we submit to such by the virtue of being here.
You have skipped away from the comparison between francophone west Africa and Nigeria in their relationship with France. This was the entire point of my post.
Nigeria is Frances trading partner within the region. This in spite of many reasons why Nigeria should be hostile to France.
This is what it means to be a "big boy" To have the ability to deal with adversaries and extract the best terms.
Unfortunately outside of Nigeria is bad you have nothing else to say.
But you have refused to understand that Nigeria is not getting the best. And you are right - you are definitely much older than my brother. I wont' be explaining further as I believe you are deliberately misunderstanding me, and my time is money. When you want to engage a contractor or person, you do background checks, check credit rating, check references. France has a record of bad work and trade ethics in the African continent. Would you hire someone with bad references as your lead staff? Would you sign a contract with a vendor with bad references as you largest partner?
[quote author=Nazgul post=133105549]Everything there isn't up to 180k.
Let's do math.
Half bag of rice 55k Bag of semo 27,500k 5 pieces of spaghetti 5k Carton of noodles 15k About 10 pieces of detergent at 5k 10 spices 1k 1 pack of premier cool soap 4,500 2 packs of kids diaper 16k. 1 bottle of groundnut oil 2k.
BreconHills: So you are the level of celebrating being outside the country. Congratulations 🎊 😂
Let's leave that morning pick me up aside
The reason that these countries are shunning France is because France was their colonial masters. Their calls are routed through France, their CBN is domiciled in France so they are rightly aggrieved. Nigeria on the other hand has always had a cat and mouse affair with France.
France supported Biafra during the civil war France has a defence pact with neighbouring Cameroon which was an aggressor prior to the Bakassi hand over France refused to supply missiles to our Jaguar Jets rendering them useless. France frustrated the ecowas common currency.
But Nigeria wears trousers and not pampers
So like big boys we shine teeth with adversaries.
Right now France needs NG to do do pass through trade to its former colonies. It is also interested in minerals. Nigeria is interested in selective investment and opening access to Francophone/EU banking via Paris. UbA and Zenith have received their licences on this trip.
I am writing this for other readers curious about the subject and not to change your views about Nigeria. You are entitled to your views. They come from your legitimate experiences and worldview.
By the way, there are people on NL who have children working abroad and others in overseas universities. Not everyone is struggling to leave Nigeria.
Nigeria is still Frances largest trading partner
Good morning my brother, I hope your weekend is going well. At least I am celebrating being outside Nigeria while you are still addressing suicidal and depressive emotions using your Self Pity Pyramid.
The failing Nigerian economy shows that Nigeria is neither a big boy nor has it grown out of diapers. And by the way, WHEN FRANCE WAS A MINOR TRADE PARTNER TO NIGERIA, OUR ECONOMY WAS BETTER. YOU CANNOT DENY STATISTICS!!
Heffalump: @OP, Your post is in contrast with reality. What you have just enunciated up there is by no means, any favourable political scheme by Nigeria. It is a dead-end move that will set us apart eventually. When I saw APC e-warriors celebrating the biggest achievement of Tinubu by visiting Emmanuel Macron in France, I said to myself Nigeria is doomed to fail. Otherwise, how can a country jettisoned by poorer African Francophone countries become all of a sudden, our bosom friend and warrants global celebration? If you understand international political history, you will never be happy doing business with France as an African country. These guys are very mean to the core, and a big selfish parasite. They come, they kill, and they loot!! Tell me how France has helped the likes of Chad, Niger, Mali, Senegal, Benin Rep, Ivory Coast, and so many, to transform into modern countries of global repute, even with the huge mineral resources plundered from these countries?
France has been rejected in Africa, and Nigeria becoming a sudden bride overnight is questionable and suspicious. Tinubu is actually a laughingstock.
exactly! France has been in business with francophone Africa for over 60 years with no tangible benefit to the African region. What exactly does Tinubu think France will provide Nigeria?
BreconHills: Ask Elemelu, Ovia and Rabiu which agreements they signed with France under NG sovereign guarantee yesterday. None of the three is yoruba btw. While you are all experiencing post election trauma, the wise have moved on.
Recalibrate. There is no banking or nnpc job again. No uncles to dash money. No free lunch. Engage your brain and stop complaining without effect.
Why are you bringing tribe into this discussion? My own post election trauma can only begin if Justin Trudeau fails to win. So you see, I have engaged myself better than you have and gotten myself out of the burning house of Nigeria. By the way, as we speak francophone countries in Africa are shunning France.
On a serious note, I would love to know how a Nigerian born in the UK in 1983 can become a citizen.
NO, the opening of this place is not to facilitate japa. There is going to be almost 99% refusal of visas. The UK government only wants to generate revenue - they do not need more immigrants. See the chart below - Nigerian students used to provide the 3rd highest revenue to the UK government from tuition fees. Now there is an immigration cap and international student acceptance rate has fallen. One of the ways to make it up is by processing more UK Visa (processing does not mean people will get the visas)
Armaggedon: your argument is trash. Recording someone in his house is illegal and being allowed to walk away with such recording proves the reps member is not troublesome. It doesn't work that way. In law, it's not just about what happened but the cause. The bolt driver might end up getting into more trouble.
You are wrong. It is not illegal. If it is, provide a source.
Onegai: No family court in Nigeria will award him full custody, he's a single man, the children are young female children and he has admitted to not taking care of his responsibilities for no reason other than pettiness and pride. All his wife needs to do is move back in with her parents and speak to a lawyer. They've already done 2 years of separation and she can file in Magistrate's court.
No lawyer will lie to him, because they know he'll be ordered to pay upkeep, rent and schoolfees to the parent with primary custody. That's the Law in Nigeria and people get judgements for it every day and take that document to passport offices, banks and more.
The reason Nigerians do anyhow is because they don't settle matters in court or follow the rule of law, but choose to settle their matters by their own hands.
Let everyone go to Ikeja High Court or Igbosere, their eye will clear. Or let FIDA take up this case and write to his employer and tell them what he's done.
If devil wants to use OP, let him go and kidnap those children, he'll sleep in police station. Even mothers get arrested for doing that.
He needs to calm down and drop his pride and anger.
You are right. The actual reason that I asked OP that question is because OP does not really want his children. From Op's previous posts, his new relationship is not working out well so he wants to get back to his ex and she refuses. So OP wants to ensure that she is so occupied with the kids 24/7 that she does have the time to find a new partner. I knew that OP would not answer me because it is not about his children; it is about keeping his ex at home.
goran3310: Excellent. Pay her father money and take the children with you. Very simple. And the most effective. If you care about the children, take them with you. Give her father the money he invested in your children. The woman will ask you to give her children. Don't refuse. The court ruled that the children should be with her. Talk to her. Tell her that the children can be with you because she has responsibilities. I hope she is normal enough and won't ask you for money to support the children while the children are with you.
Afodot0022: Top of the day to my nairalanders fam. Majority of people here have idea about my story and if you don't, you can go through my previous post to get a glimpse.
This month made it one year and seven months have been Separated and living apart from my ex wife due to infidelity and cheating from my ex wife part. Since then, my two daughter aged 8 and 7 had been living with her and I do take responsibility of them until this January 2024 when my wife took my kids to her father and step mom place because there was this course she was order to go for 6months officially outside lagos state. I was so angry because she never seek my permission or approval before taking them there and because of this, I stop sending money or paying their fees till now. I saw it as a act of disrespect if I the father can't be informed of where my kids are been taking to for a long period of time. She already took them there before informing me.
She was supposed to finish her course outside the state by June and since then, she never called me to inform me she is back until yesterday when I put a call to her and she told me she got back since June. I asked about the kids and to my shock, she told me the kids are still there with her father and step mom. How can you leave the kids at your parents place while the father and mother are available, I got so upset and the discussion resulted to insult and curse on phone. She told me she had a serious issue at work and she couldn't combine the kids stress to what she is going through presently. To be honest, I was even thinking to reconcile with her cos of the kids despite she cheated but the way she behave and talks on phone shows she is not remorse or even care if the family is back together or ready for any reconciliation despite the fact she was at fault. Now my kids are my focus but I don't know how to go about this.
The information I got from her dad was that he will not release the kids to either me or her on less the money he had spent on them is refunded back to him. This is already looking like a kidnap and abduction case which I told her that if she doesn't pick those kids before weekend, I will file a case of child kidnap and abduction against her and her father. Pls I need advice on how to go about this and those that have first class experience with such should assist with advice. Thank you all
May I know why you are unable to divorce and file for FULL custody of your kids? She is not available so she is keeping the kids with her parents but you are available.
Life in Canada seems to be economically tough despite their excellent politicians. So Nigeria 🇳🇬 ain't alone...

I live in Canada. Their harsh is not the same as Nigeria's harsh. Those guys on the street will go to food banks for food, salvation army will hand them winter wear. They will even be offered cigarettes and Joe Louis cookies! Nigeria is alone! It's not heaven but it is a very good place to live.

Social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has disclosed how he obtained the controversial phone recording of cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
He said that he got the recording from someone whom Bobrisky owed money, as he submitted part of the recording to the committee investigating the allegation.
VeryDarkMan revealed this on Monday, when he presented himself before a House of Representatives panel investigating bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).. Watch Video HERE
Officials of the EFCC and the NCoS were present as the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions commenced an investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption levelled against the anti-graft agency and the prison service by the blogger.
Naija News reports that the blogger had earlier refused to speak after noticing that Bobrisky, who was also invited, had sent a lawyer and refused to make an appearance.
However, lawmakers countered the blogger’s submission, moved a motion compelling him to make an address on the subject matter of the voice recording which he released.
The blogger remained adamant, insisting that his lawyer would speak instead despite the committee’s threat to invoke legislative powers and order his arrest right away.
