Car TalkEngine Stalls When Going Over Bumps, Bad Roads And Breaking Hard by Sholaypanda(op): 3:36pm On Apr 17
I have a 2008 corolla that stalls once in a while when going over a bump, bad roads and experienced it twice when i had to break hard due to the car in front of me going to a stop which i have done severally in the past without these issues. if engine stalls, dashboard lights up, i put the gear in neutral, put off the AC as it keeps running, ans crank the car again and it picks up immediately and i might drive for hours without experiencing such again. on smooth road while constantly accelerating, i do not experience it. The only stored code i have is A P0031- indicates a low voltage issue in the heater circuit of the upstream (Bank 1, Sensor 1) air/fuel ratio or oxygen sensor.

Did you change any of the tyres recently? start from wheel balancing and alignment first, they are cheap.
Car TalkRe: Speedometer Bouncing On Toyota Corolla 2007 by Sholaypanda(op): 4:42pm On Mar 11
So today, i approached a rewire, we drove around for a few minutes, he disconnected the speedometer then we went to his workshop, all he did was to reconnect a loose wire on one of the connectors attached to the transmission and the whole thing stopped (This took a couple of minutes). Drives fine now and no erratic speedometer.

Car TalkSpeedometer Bouncing On Toyota Corolla 2007 by Sholaypanda(op): 5:03pm On Mar 05
Hello Autotechnicians,

Recently, i noticed that only my speedometer bounces erratically when climbing bumps or driving on rough roads, it can jump to 30-40mph. Whenever it does this, it needs to come down to zero to accelerate properly but on smooth roads, it works well and reads speed properly.

I scanned the car and the code i got was P0705. Now i noticed that the speedometer is bouncing while i am in traffic but the RPM is normal and not moving erratic.

Anyone who have experienced or solved this issue in the past can comment with pointers as i plan fixing tomorrow.

Thank you for your input. I finally settled for the 2008 Toyota corolla and purchased one.

Dwarfgod:
The "4 cylinder " as you said burns oil.. the v6 is better. Go with it! Don't look back!! The fuel economy difference with "4 cylinder " will be tolerable when you start enjoying the smoothness of v6.

Cheers 🍻

Why the craze for Toyota? You can look at the competitor, Honda. I am looking at getting a Honda accord 2008-2012 model. Powerful, sleek, robust design, great engineering ( engine is solid) transmission is superb. By the way, the leg doesn't pull, as Toyota boys are always bound to chorus leg pull.
I really don't like the engine of the car you are gunning for. Seems the 4 cylinder model is plagued with engine problem. Since it's just a run around car, you can do the Camry 2000-2001 model.
Best of luck bro
I would have loved that model of Camry but timing belt is an issue as i had a friend with one and it disgraced me one day. I finally settled for the 2008 Toyota corolla and purchased one.

It’s a great car and its engine ( 3mz ) is bullet proof but then again you’d be spending a bit more of fueling the car and the 4 cylinder option commands more resale value. Would you bubs a corolla that’s fits your budget though
Thank you for your input, corollas under good working condition (as i have initially considered it) and not repackaged are not within reach as i am not looking to up my budget at this point in time.

I respect the fact that it has a great fuel economy but relatively high price which will command a great resale value at the end of the day.

A great corolla within my budget will definitely fly as i want to be realistic with pricing just for peace of mind.

Dear Nairaland Auto section gurus,

I need your expertise in buying a Nigerian used vehicle.

I am currently in the market for a 4 plug Toyoya camry 04/05/06 and my budget is between 4-5 million but unfortunately i have inspected a couple of them with professional help from direct users and dealers and doesn't meet the required standard or too pricy for cars i will have to spend extra money after exceeding my budget to finetune again so i gladly just count my losses on inspection fees and moved on.

Currently someone offered me a 2004 camry XLE but a V6 engine, car was inspected today and everything runs fine but it is first body but already faded and will need to flash it, AC was moturary standard. The price was very reasonable but i have some concerns

1. Fuel economy: i would not mind if it is just a few liters and not by a wide margin (I live in Lagos with high tendency of traffic)
2. Resale as most Nigerians like myself prefer a 4 plug engine

The reason why i need a car is to
1. Drop my son and pick him up daily from preschool instead of jumping bikes - Recently resumed
2. Market runs with my wife /errands
3. My wife to take my son out regularly/family outings with ease
4. Few movements as i work remotely and attend a couple of exhibitions over the course of the year.

Also do not plan on spending too much on a car as i might sell it about a year to possible relocate.

What would you advise as i look forward to your inputs!
