elektra80:

Europe cars tend to be faster and more luxurious but those japs brings a balance to economy, reliability and comfort. if u can own only one car as ur daily driver and u have option between a 2008 Mercedes Benz e320 and a 2008 Toyota Camry which one would u choose. I mean a car that u drive everyday around the city, good and bad roads. most people will choose the Toyota because its more of an everyday car. Most people that own those exotic Europe cars have more than one car, and their daily driver is always these japs that u condemn
.

Diesel engines make more noise too and not environmental friendly based on emission
I agree with u on some of the points raised , but on others I'm afraid I disagree. First, even if one were †̥σ own just one car, it still boils down †̥σ a matter of choice. If u decide †̥σ go for the e320, it is only naturally u'∂ be ready for relatively and/or slightly higher running costs. Αяє u saying that there αяє no individuals who successfully use an European car as their only vehicle ?
Also how come the notion that diesel cars make noise ? Surely u should have driven or come across newer diesel car models ? Or are u going by the noisy and smoky trucks on our roads? Mr, diesel automobiles burn cleaner these days...
Car Talk / Re: Andvise Before He Wastes His Money On LR3 by shootsight(m): 3:27pm On Sep 22, 2013
Unless your friend is ready †̥σ pay through his nose at Τђε fuel pump then no qualms ...
Τђε LR3 is notoriously thirsty, a real gas guzzler but then I would blame it on Τђε curb weight . Τђε 4.4litre has some serious pulling †̥σ do u know.
All in all. I think your friend should consider other options unless he wants †̥σ use it for an expedition into some interior settlement in adamawa grin
Its a terribly good offroader but for everyday driving on paved. Roads ? Naaaaaaah! Drives like a damn truck. Lol

You are a very funny guy Shoot@sight. I like that.
But the problem is you are so bent on shooting yourself at the foot. cheesy

Given, I may have bitten more than I could chew by comparing a GLK to Tundra. Pardon me, I was merely looking for the easiest way to let you guys into my mind and of course the mind of Nigerians when it comes to brands and their workability (Toyota compared to other brands). That example was lost in translation.

Now, allow me to compare a GLK to Toyota Highlander. I was opportune to drive a friend's Highlander a couple of times. After all said and done, a Toyota Highlander still comes out tops in terms of durability, reliability and cost
Comparing a Highlander, and a GLK ? Damnit I give up! Highlander is a CROSSOVER, more like a compromise between a car and an SUV. GLK on Τђε other hand is a full fledge no nonsense SUV. First and foremost if u must compare please compare with a Nissan murano, Honda crv etc. grin
That aside please Neva compare a Mercedes with a Toyota ,they αяє not in ∂ same class and will not βε̲̣ for a very looooong time. If ever... Mercedes is a premium brand okay??
Let mε put it this way ,Ɣоυ αяє comparing a bajaj150cc bike with a Harley Davidson ! grin make comparison with a landcruiser perhaps okay ?

@ nuzo; Oga Ɣоυ αяє still comparing tundra and glk .. Why №ω ? Haba! Also Wђã† do u mean by newer diesel cars being expensive? Isn't it Τђε same Nigerians that buy crosstour and Toyota venza which year models start from 2009 or thereabout ?and cost anywhere from 30,000usd for a used model. Why will newer diesel versions №ω cost an arm and a leg ? Why should we even discuss diesel cars in relation †̥σ older models ? Mr, I experience hellish traffic jams as I am based in Lagos. I am sure Mr ikenna has been stuck too in traffic severally... I still maintain that I am yet †̥σ see anyone who complained of arm paralysis because he pushes a manual car. Even at that, most newer manual cars have barely perceptible gear changes, perhaps u have been driving an older make of manual.
Car Talk / Re: Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by shootsight(m): 6:29am On Sep 22, 2013
I think the issue between automatic and manual cars is a no brainer. I drive an automatic but then automatics by nature deprives one of that connect between man and machine. With a manual u feel and indeed have much more input in Τђε driving experience. Car enthusiasts go for manual anyday anytime.
Even if one were †̥σ look @ it from an economic point of view, manuals are less prone †̥σ issues. Infact a manual gearbox with issues can βε̲̣ safely driven for kilometres if the driver knows Wђã† he's doing. Try that with an auto tranny and kiss it goodbye! And for those who claim manuals are tasking and painful on the arms. Let them go †̥σ the transport companies and ask their drivers... They'∂ pick a manual oVer an auto tranny tιℓℓ infinity. Besides I am yet to see a manual car driver whose arms got paralysed due to frequent gear changes

Who is that dude comparing a Mercedes GLK and a Toyota tundra? U αяє not being fair @ all. Τhe tundra is a TRUCK, while GLK is a luxury SUV. I am tempted †̥σ believe u drove and reviewed both vehicles on the screen of your computer! Even amongst SUV's Τђε GLK is in a class of its own. Toyota's may be reliable generally but are pretty much bland and uninspiring in ride handling , design and Wђã† have you. Toyota is more or less a point A †̥σ point B car .. And please diesel cars αяє no longer noisy and smoky. Do not use Τђε noisy and smokestack old heavy duty vehicles u encounter on our roads as a yardstick †̥σ judge. Except Τђε initial growl when started up u wouldn't tell ∂ difference in newer cars.

Car Talk / Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by shootsight(m): 8:58am On Sep 21, 2013
Good morning nairalanders ...
I have noticed most people in Nigeria shy away from diesel engined automobiles when making a purchase decision. One prime complaint u'll hear is that diesel engines αяє '' problematic'' , ''oga diesel engine dey spoil quick quick and Ɛ no dey last''.

Infact I had a first hand experience at a filling station @ gbagada estate. A man pulls over with an Audi Q7 for gas/diesel and the lady while filling up queries him why he would buy the diesel version of such a luxurious automobile. As if that's not enough she chips in an ''advice'' that he should trade it for a petrol version if he wants †̥σ enjoy Τђε ride.

I was surprised †̥σ say the least because I know diesel engines †̥σ b easy on gas consumption , and αяє even naturally more torquey than their petrol counterparts. Or perhaps its ∂ assumption diesel engines αяє noisy? Which has almost been eliminated in newer car versions.

So Let's have ur opinion !
