Pets / Snake Swallows Nursing Mother by Shooyie: 8:46pm On Jul 03
In central Indonesia, police discovered a woman dead inside a snake’s belly after it had swallowed her.
Siriati, 36, had gone missing after she left her house on Tuesday to buy medicine for her sick child, police said, prompting relatives to launch a search.

Her husband, Adiansa, 30, found her slippers and pants on the ground about 500 metres (yards) from their house in Siteba village, South Sulawesi province.

“Shortly after that, he spotted a snake, about 10 metres from the path. The snake was still alive,” local police chief Idul, who, like many Indonesians, has one name, told AFP.

Crime / Woman Kills Three Children Over Cheating Husband by Shooyie: 6:04pm On May 02
A yet-to-be identified woman has reportedly killed her three children following her disapproval of her husband engaging in extramarital affairs.

This was revealed in a statement by an X user, @miss_she_du, on Wednesday.

According to her, the woman trailed her husband to the hotel, where she affirmed his clandestine randy acts.

She noted that following her revelation that her husband cheated on her, she headed home, carried the three kids she bore him, and tossed them over a bridge.

“A woman caught her husband cheating,” she said. “She already had three kids for him.

“She followed him to the hotel where he was and made sure he saw her. So, she left the hotel without saying a word,” she added.

Further, she revealed that “she went home and carried her three kids, then threw them over the bridge into the water and left them to die.”

She added that “the intriguing part is all the three kids were below three years old, and she had a set of twins among the kids and one single kid.

Health / WMA President Urges Nigeria To Declare National Emergency by Shooyie: 10:25am On May 06, 2023
Dr. Osahon Enabulele, President of the World Medical Association (WMA) has called on the Nigerian government and managers of health institutions in Nigeria to declare a state of emergency in response to the rising tide of violence against healthcare professionals in Nigeria.
The World Medical Association President stated this while delivering a Guest Lecture at the 63rd Annual General Conference and Delegates Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the Catholic event center in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The WMA President, in his presentation titled “Violence Against Healthcare Workers in Nigeria: The Way Forward,” condemned the escalating cases of violence against healthcare professionals in Nigeria, which he estimated to be 10-60%, compared to the global frequency of 8-38%.

Despite the tremendous efforts made by physicians and other health professionals to provide health care services to the people, Dr. Enabulele expressed grave concern that they were still being violently assaulted in their workplaces, particularly in emergency care units, primary care clinics, wards, and psychiatric units of hospitals in Nigeria.

While he identified verbal abuse, physical assault, and kidnapping as prevalent types of violence against healthcare professionals, he also stated that the perpetrators of violence against healthcare workers were usually patients’ families, patients themselves, coworkers, and kidnappers.

While lamenting the lack of a violence prevention policy in most Nigerian healthcare facilities, the WMA President noted difficulties such as extended wait times, increased workload and insufficient supply of equipment, poor communication, and a negative attitude.

While expressing dismay at the lack of a violence prevention protocol in the majority of Nigerian healthcare facilities, the WMA President identified long waiting times, increased workload and insufficient supply of equipment, poor communication, and negative attitude by some health workers, patient’s history of violent behaviour, and dissatisfaction with the care provided as some of the factors responsible for the rising cases of violence against healthcare workers.

Dr. Enabulele recommended that the government declare an emergency and implement a zero-tolerance policy on violence in the health sector in his recommendations on how to stem the tide of violence in the health sector.

While urging nations to move quickly towards Universal Health Coverage, he challenged them with addressing the Social Determinants of Health and resolving all existing health disparities. He also urged governments to boost healthcare funding and investments in the well-being, security, safety, and working conditions of physicians and other health workers.

The WMA president advised healthcare administrators, among other things, to improve the security architecture in their facilities, implement violence prevention strategies, improve patient experience, and build the capacity of their healthcare workers.

The Executive Governor of Taraba State, Architect Darius Dickson Ishaku, opened the conference by thanking the NMA for hosting the conference in Taraba State and informing delegates of his government’s efforts to promote healthcare delivery in the state.

He praised physicians and other healthcare workers for their contributions to healthcare delivery and national development while asking them to be committed to their jobs.

Dr. Uche Ojinmah, President of NMA, welcomed participants and invited visitors in his welcoming remarks and expressed delight at its hosting by the Taraba State branch of the association.

Politics / Re: Re: Osinbajo: The Cowardice Of A Traitor by Shooyie: 10:43pm On Feb 10, 2023
"Osinbajo was and still is a man of the people. If it were the choice of a people’s ballot in picking the APC candidate during its primaries, I dare say, Osinbajo would have won the ticket with a landslide. It was also alleged that delegates also spoke in hushed tones, how they were influence and induced by large sums of cash to vote".
Politics / 2023 Polls And City People’s Long Throat Journalism by Shooyie: 1:44pm On Feb 08, 2023
By Charles Okoye

From the onset of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign, the role of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was well defined and communicated by President Muhammadu Buhari, his boss.

A statement on September 24, 2022 issued by Festus Keyamo, the director of public affairs and chief spokesperson for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council read, “Our attention has been drawn to some stories making the rounds that there may be something amiss within the family of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the name of our own revered and respected Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, is not included in the list of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.

“Nothing can be farther from the facts. For the avoidance of doubt, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, is the Chairman of the Campaign Council. As a result, Mr. President has SPECIFICALLY directed that the Vice-President and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha should be left out of the Campaign Council to concentrate on the governance of the country and administration of Government. As a responsible Party and Government, all the key functionaries of government cannot abandon their positions for electioneering campaigns. The APC has the mandate of the Nigerian people to administer the country on their behalf at least till May, 29, 2023, and this we intend to do with all sense of responsibility.

In hindsight, this statement was made in reference to unprofessional, unethical and poorly strewn blogs and soft news websites like City People.

The concluding part of Keyamo’s statement read, “We will not toe the path of those who governed the country in an irresponsible manner before us and our Party is not in total disarray like those who wish to ‘rescue’ the country, but cannot simply manage their own internal affairs.”

With this in mind, one will wonder why Seye Kehinde and his trolls will write such a poorly researched, below par article titled, WHY VP HAS OSINBAJO REFUSED TO CAMPAIGN FOR TINUBU. Starting from the grammatically incorrect headline, it showed that no real thinking or work was applied, in fact, this is below the gutter journalism that City People churn out on a regular.

To set the records straight, Prof. Osinbajo has not only congratulated the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, but he visited him personally at his Abuja residence on December 21, 2022.

It is on record that after the primaries, Osinbajo urged all party members to support Tinubu. On 9 June, two days after the primaries, he said and I quote, “I congratulate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory at our party primaries and his emergence as the Presidential Candidate and Flagbearer of our great party, the APC for the forthcoming 2023 Presidential Elections.

Politics / Osinbajo Not Among ‘aso Rock Elements’ Working Against Tinubu – El-rufai by Shooyie: 3:47pm On Feb 03, 2023
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has dismissed insinuations that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was the person in Aso Rock against the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

El-Rufai in an interview on Arise TV said that the people he was referring to are northerners like President Muhammadu Buhari who failed to plant their presidential candidate as successor to Buhari.

He insisted that Prof. Osinbajo, who also contested the APC presidential primaries was not involved.

His clarification comes one day after the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola stated that the Vice President was still very active within the APC and that he had presided over a meeting of APC Legal Team on Wednesday.

El-Rufai who was speaking on the naira redesign explained that the decision to do it so close to the election was ill-timed.

“This thought, this thinking to change the currency is designed just to bring serious bottleneck that will affect the outcome of the elections because these same people wanted President Buhari to be succeeded by someone else and that person did not win the election and that someone is not the Vice President because I saw some reports in the newspapers mentioning Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, no, not at all,” he said.

“These people are northerners like us, they are northerners like Buhari but they are intent on undermining his legacy by ensuring that they cause a crisis because after eight years of Buhari if he is succeeded by another northerner there are chances that we will have more pockets of crisis in the country,” he added.

Politics / Douye Diri: Good To Go Again! By Kola Oredipe by Shooyie: 4:48pm On Feb 02, 2023
Governor Douye Diri belongs to the class of achievers.

Senator Diri, current Governor of Bayelsa State is calm, humble, focused and goal oriented.

The miracle governor is a child of grace, born in the coastal community of Sampou in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Quintessential, smart, and God-fearing, Douye Diri shares his interesting childhood under the tutelage of his disciplinarian father, a Primary School teacher who later became a Headteacher. Indeed, looking back, those training and discipline has shaped the life of the Governor.

“Growing up with my siblings, my father was so strict and never spared the rod as directed in the Holy Book”, Governor Diri always tell this story.

In less than three years in office, the Prosperity Administration he leads has surpassed expectations of many, particularly those who never gave him a chance.

Appreciating the miraculous way he came to power in 2020, Governor Diri, set out from the day of inauguration to preach the message of love, peace, unity and reconciliation across the length and breath of Bayelsa State.

Today, by this singular act, he has become the rallying point to all Ijaws irrespective of political affiliations. He endeared himself more to Bayelsans when he said, “I am committed to Bayelsa project. First, we are all Bayelsans before these political parties came. Let’s put the interest of the State beyond our personal interests.”

With his clear and open heart, many in opposition parties have joined him in the PDP to support the government and work for his re-election in a move to ensure continuity and consolidation of various developmental agenda.

Governor Diri has etched his name in the history book with his deep interest in the welfare of the public servants; both in service and retirees.

His kind effort has received commendation Daily, they pray and show appreciation for his policy consistency that has engendered regular and prompt payment of salaries since February 2020 when he became Governor. He set aside N200 million monthly to clear outstanding pensions and gratuities. He has shown so much commitment to the welfare of the public service. The recently signed Contributory Pensions Scheme Law is a sweet tonic to further motivate the service. No wonder many civil servants are craving for his re-election.

Different youth and women empowerment programmes are ongoing under this Prosperity Government to empower small and medium scale business owners. The total sum for disbursement to business owners across the 105 wards has just been increased from N50 million to N100 million Naira to be able it reach more people beyond the current number of 210 persons monthly.

Cultivating the governance culture of prudence and accountability, the governor embraced the policy of continuity that makes him release funds or re-award inherited projects or some uncompleted under the previous administrations. A great decision!

And through this, a number of such projects had been completed and inaugurated for the good use of the people. Within his first year in office, the Prosperity Government completed the Kaiama Referral Hospital in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA and the Imiringi bridge in Ogbia LGA.

During the first year anniversary, Governor Diri re-awarded some inherited projects and embarked on new ones. Today, such projects as brand new Igbedi road has been completed, and some sections of the Igbogene-AIT/Elebele outer ring road completed.

In fact, during the second anniversary, projects like the Nembe Unity bridge, Elebele bridge, New Yenagoa City Road, brand new Media Complex, and a number of new secondary school classroom blocks were inaugurated.

Just a few days ago, Julius Berger delivered the dualisation of Isaac Boro Expressway which has been under construction for some time.

The Prosperity Government has not left anyone in doubt as to its interest to open up the riverine communities, hence, the massive funding of the three ongoing Senatorial Roads. Great to cheer that the Sagbama-Ekeremor road linking over ten riverine communities in Bayelsa West will be ready soon as asphalting has almost reached Ekeremor main town.

In Bayelsa Central, several milestones have been accomplished on the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road with the successful completion of Aguobiri bridge and asphalting up to ancient town of Angiama. The Angiama-Oporoma bridge across River Nun is progressing. This is historic to the people of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area who have waited for this road for almost 60 years.
