THE IDEAL MUSLIM FAMILY

A Muslim family consists of a legally married couple (husband and wife) and their children. It also includes their parents, siblings and other relatives. A Muslim family comes into through two means: blood and marriage.

Allah says “And is He who has created man from water, then He set up relationships of family and marriage; and your lord is ever all powerful over all things” – Q25 vs 54. Below are the guidelines for a successful family life

1. Prayer to choose the right partner: Don’t just into a relationship that will lead to marriage, you need to ask God first. Let prayer be the foundation of your union. Build your foundation on the ultimate goal of a true believer which is seeking God’s forgiveness and His pleasure.

2. Trust: Your relationship must be built on trust from the beginning. Any relationship that is built on falsehood will collapse eventually.

3. Respect: The wife must respect her husband, his parents; siblings and friends and vice versa.

4. Finance and Protection by the husband: This starts with payment of dowry to your wife before marriage as instructed by Allah. Followed by taking good care of her when she becomes your life partner.

5. Submission and Obedience: A good wife must be obedient to her husband.

6. Contentment: Husband and wife must be contented with Allah’s provisions in their life.

7. Patience, perseverance, endurance: For a successful family life, the couples must have patience and perseverance to face challenges of life.

8. The fear of Allah: A good Muslim must fear Allah in all affairs, openly and secretly. Let the fear of God guide your steps whether your partner is with you or not.

9. Cleanliness: A good wife should ensure proper arrangement of her home. Cleanliness in next to Godliness.

10. Religiosity and Prayer: You must be religious and help each other to strive higher in your spiritual life. Be prayer warriors.

11. Guide against unlawful sex and relationship: Never engage in unlawful extra marital affairs. Don’t have illicit sex with any other person except your spouse. A good wife must guide her chastity (Q4 vs 34, Q vs 1-6).
