I appreciate the responses from everyone. We may not agree in everything but it is important that we understand each other. This means not calling names or demeaning anyone but arguing constructively. I understand that there are existing farmers here and though we do the same job we might not have same experience. The topic I have shared here plus all other ones I have written are no misleading. They are the things I have discovered and have applied personally, coached a few persons shared with many who have also got good results. You see, just because u don't know something doesn't mean its not true or impossible.
The estimate I made on this post was based on current prices in my location and it didn't include the cost of a Pen for housing the chicken because the cost of a Pen, drinkers and feeders are something u will do once for a while. This means that it is spread over a long term.

It is possible to improvise on a lot of things in agriculture. In building a pen for instance, one can get cheap or free materials in construction sites or buy scrab woods, used zinc etc. Going all out to look for these things might bring u luck. It is important u take a step. Also, u can temporarily use containers, cut open a 10litre or 20litre can so that it lies horizontally opened. U can improvise feeders and drinkers

Regarding feeds, it is no doubt that the cost of feeds is pushing many farmers out of business and even discouraging many from starting a farm. I faced similar challenges until I started thinking. I realised that I didn't need to produce same kind of weight every time but instead look at the various markets available around me. Growing birds requires you understand the markets and the different weights demanded. During celebrity times for instance, most homes would prefer to buy big size chicken of 3kg-3.5k even. If u are preparing for that market, it will require that u feed your chicken adbinitum this means more feed and more quality feed too. If on the other hand your target market is people who sale roasted chickens or restaurants who buy sizeable chickens. You will need to regulate the feed. It is only when you're making your own feed your self that you are able to regulate feed to maximise profit. Feeds are made completely locally or by using feed concentrates. All feed ingredients fall under the six classes of feeds and just as you have maize, guinea corn etc as carbohydrates sources, u also have soyabean, Groundnut cake etc as protein sources. All of them have different DCPs content. You only need to know which is affordable to you and what your goal is in terms of market and weight.

If u understand how to source for feed ingredients cheaply and how to properly calculate DCPs of each ingredient so that it gives u the right amount to mix to attain a particular quality. You will not only cut down on cost but also know what to give your customers per time as demanded.

What I have shown here is possible. If the prices of the estimate I gave is too high in ur area start with 50 birds instead. By all means start something and quit idleness.

It is possible to start with 49k and grow your farm to something impossible

Gud moni pals,i will like to share my ideal in poultry farming must esp. In d area of medication/vaccination because dis is one major area new comas get it wrong and get dere fingers burnt.
Day1:Marek vacc(s/c).this shld b given to dem @ hatchry(5naira per bird).Getting to ur brooding pen u give dem multivitamin or glucose just ease transportaion stress.
Day 2-5:multivitamins and antibiotics.
Day 6-8:Anti-coccidiosis and vitamins.
Day 9: Gumboro vaccine.
Day 10:vitamins.
Day 11-13:Anti-coccidiosis and vitamins.
Day 14:Lasota vacc mix wit milk(cow bell)
Day15-20:vitamins.
Day 21:2nd Gumboro vacc.
Day 25-27: vitamins.
Day 28:2nd lasota.
Day29-33:Anticoccidiosis and vits.
Day 42: Dewormer.
Pls when administring vaccine handle wit extra care,if possible ask d vet doctor or practicing farmer to help u out.My fellow comrade dnt allow any body or factors to discourage u to farm,d future of dis is farming,dose guy doin fine boy today will surely come back to farm by den we go don become Baba so dey hv to pay us our own share frm dere Yahoo money,gba be...i will also like to tell u dt notin dat u ar rearing dt doesnt sell,to my greatest surprise a woman came to my farm to buy my local puppies(badoo) and she saw my local duck and she said she do buy duck also,my brodas i sold 43 small small ducks @ d rate of 1200 par 1,immediately pepper soup dey aungry me...lol
