Politics“who Tax Don Epp?” Chude Jideonwo Raises Hard Questions On Tax And Governance by silentpath2007(op): 8:16am On Feb 02, 2016
I remember being a law student at the University of Lagos. The law of taxation was my worst course. I thanked God that I would never have to deal with this again.

If only I had known that as a businessperson, tax law would once again be my worst course.

Only this time, the exam is forever.

PoliticsAs Oil Revenue Drops, Cocoa Can Save Nigeria If The Government Wishes by silentpath2007(op): 2:35pm On Jan 22, 2016
Nigeria is grappling with foreign exchange issues. The country’s forex reserves dropped below $30 billion in December, 2015 and the currency has continued to lose its value, closing at N295 to a dollar at the parallel market on Tuesday while official rate remained at N197. Things may worsen despite efforts by Africa’s largest economy to stabilize its economy, as oil slid below $30 per barrel. The black gold accounts for over 90 percent of Nigeria’s forex earnings. But this was not always this case; agriculture used to be the principal foreign exchange earner.....

PoliticsNigeria Among Sub-saharan Africa's Most Promising Markets In Logistics Industry by silentpath2007(op): 1:49pm On Jan 19, 2016
South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana are the most promising logistics markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to a new survey which is part of the 2016 Agility Emerging Markets Logistics Index. However, poor infrastructure, low power generation and corruption continue to pose the most risk to African economies.

“The results show a serious disconnect between the perception of the market and actual opportunities,” says Geoffrey White, CEO of Agility Africa, who noted that African countries are some of the world’s fastest-growing economies........

Our policy makers that we vote for may God help us on them. Yesterday one of the lawmakers in the Nigerian National Assembly's answer to Lassa Fever outbreak is to encourage Nigerians to breed more cats, even though this looks like a smart biological control mechanism, as cats are known to feed on rats ( vector for the Lassa virus), this looks like a short term solution to me.
This is 2016, we need a proactive approach to such cases in our country not reactive, what are the procedures put in place that will prevent re-occurence. You can click the link to read the article and let us discuss way forward.

PoliticsThe Silver Lining In Nigeria's Capital Market Collapse By Ehidiamhen Okpamen by silentpath2007(op): 4:50pm On Jan 13, 2016
A few years back, I wrote an article on the Nigerian capital market, lauding the bourse and those at the helm of directing its affairs for turning around its fortunes from a near-collapse in 2008 to one of the fastest growing exchanges in the world. At the time (precisely February 2014), the Nigerian equity market capitalization had surpassed the pre-2008 high of N12.6 trillion ($77.4 billion), with investments gaining more than N4.25 trillion ($26.1 billion), the highest returns in any African market, trumping the usual frontrunners such as Kenya and South Africa.

PoliticsRe: Nigerians Are Scared Imf's Lagarde Is In Nigeria 2 Convince PMB To Take A Loan by silentpath2007(op): 8:00am On Jan 06, 2016
Erm, Boss are u an African? cos if u were u wont refer to Africa as a country ("because Africa is a country"wink. AFRICA IS A CONTINENT

Boss13:
Fortunately, the IMF is not the only institution the government can borrow from. On a lighter note, the conditions stipulated in the debt agreement by the IMF are conditions necessary to effect good governance in Africa and because Africa is a country that has refused to toe on the line of good governance, these conditions, which always include penalty clauses, makes it difficult for Africa countries to repay their loans.
PoliticsNigerians Are Scared Imf's Lagarde Is In Nigeria 2 Convince PMB To Take A Loan by silentpath2007(op): 5:12pm On Jan 05, 2016
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has often been criticized over the conditions of its loans which many regard as too intrusive, and believed to compromise the economic and political sovereignty of the receiving countries.

The comments that trailed news of IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde’s arrival in Nigeria, yesterday, was, therefore, not unexpected. Nigeria is in a dire financial state, with the government planning to borrow to shore up a N2.2 trillion deficit in its 2016 budget. Naturally, a visit of the head of a global lender will bring up ideas.........
