Capableben:First of all, I wanna start by saying I am not a political analyst, an agent of GEJ or a sympathiser.I am just a rural dweller that has garnered some experiences about Nigerian politics, hence, I am writing from the view of a rural dweller. Its no longer news to us that the GEJ administration is the most criticized, undermined and 'badmouthed'. This is as a result of the gargantuan security challenges the admin has faced. Nigerians have bitterly complained about GEJ across different channels- At home, on TV, In campaigns, even on Nairaland. However. I want to boldly say that this administration is the best I have witnessed, take away the security saga and u will see a govt that has dedicated its efforts for the masses. I am delighted to enunciate these facts because I have personally felt the impact of the Jonathan-led administration. Not until GEJ started ruling, we couldn't boast of electrical power in my place, coupled with a standard main road, etc. Its one thing to be a leader and another thing to be a leader that has influenced even the rural dwellers in this country. Its also evident in the developments that have taken place nationally, the aviation sector, the roads, electricity(still coming up), jobs, education, etc Mind you, this is just my opinion. Finally, I am not saying GEJ is excellent or impeccable but he needs our collective support for his best to manifest.
Truth be told, indeed, he is the best we have ever had.
I mainly use FCP7 for editing, however, any of the regular NLE's are more than good enough be it Avid, Premiere or FCP. I do have a full Adobe package but never really use it and After Effects is not a skill I have or even want. I'm more interested in writing and directing. The cameras I own are a couple of DSLRs and a Blackmagic.
I have to say a simple truth - editing software and cameras are not the issue any person interested in film should have. It doesn't really matter what one films on or edits on... there is hardly a soul now that film film on anything less than HD. The issue is people actually taking the time to first learn the basic skills of filmmaking of which there are a million articles and videos online and then taking the time to learn the equipment - for example - what a camera they are going to use can or cannot do.
At the end of the day the effort in learning a skill or various skills is what counts... the only thing equipment does is help a bit. Back to something I said at the start - I have no interest in learning AE. Good filmmaking always has and always will be 'team work'. I'd leave AE to the specialists that know it very, very well - they are there to be hired when the need arises. Far too many of us are into being the 'jack-of-all-trades' - we will NEVER produce anything 'great' that way. Of course we cannot always hire 'professionals' for every facet of the filmmaking process; especially when we are just starting out and learning; mainly because we don't have the money for it but I believe for EVERY feature film made in Nigeria actual professionals should be used and that will raise our bar much higher.
The right team really makes a huge difference as I'll show with a couple of examples from my own 'short' films -
Une Clope (the older film - every crew member was studying [none less than final year] or had studied film) so it is a much better film due to the crew having much more experience than the 'Sweet Sixteen' crew in which I more or less was the only experienced person there and everything went wrong lol.
We should also never lose faith when things go very wrong but learn from the experience, figure out what the weak points were and try our best to improve, learn even more and not to make the same mistakes again. I hope by the time I make my first feature film I will be a far better director. Terribly sorry this post is a bit long, hopefully some people that visit here can learn lessons from this too.
. Thanks very much. I like the way u took ur time to explain this, by the way, I don't mind whether your post spans across 3pages. I will read dem all if I have to.
My cousin did serve in akwa ibom, so did one of my female friends. They said its quite enjoyable jst that things are a little bit expensive there, and accommodation too.
I remember waiting hours watching the tv stations colour bars, counting down to when they would start transmission just to catch d cartoons.....(good tyms, lol)
some of the characters we see today make me shudder.
. I agree with you. Cartoon characters these days either appear sexual or unclad, there is no fun in it again just explicit contents and violence.
VillageBoi: Aspiring filmmaker here on NL and this is my showreel. I hang out mainly in the TV/Movies section where I have additional videos. Comments welcomed.
. Wow! I like the video, Nice coordination and visual effects. Seriously, will like to learn from you. Which editing software do you use? Which camera do you use? Do you use adobe after effect?
I remember growing up in a family where everyone loves cartoon. We used to sit in front of the television waiting for the local stations to air 'Tom and Jerry' which was our best cartoon. Scoobydoo did the trick for us, so was power rangers, penguin, samurai Jack and so many others. In this thread I wish to share the pics of popular cartoon characters that made my day as a kid and still like an adult...... Plz join me if your are and still a cartoon freak like me, NO SHAME.
