realsammie:You dey mind these jokers? The thing shock me die. All tertiary education institutions in Kaduna state are on indefinite strike. Primary school teachers are protesting and Nairaland refused to carry news of these strikes in Kaduna. I created all those topics but none was pushed to front-page. Is nairaland under the employ of Uba Sani? I suspect this

Chimarto:The state university is not included in the strike because they have a separate salary structure. The state government have always looked down on the other institutions hence the neglect. |
zero8zero:That N350 billion loan has Uba Sani's hand all over it because he was the chairman of the senate committee on banking and insurance and financial institutions and El rufai used him to secure the loan. He was fully aware when he campaigned with the El rufai to become governor so don't cook excuses when he has clearly failed his people. He should implement the agreed salary structure finish! |
All tertiary education institutions in Kaduna state, which includes kaduna state College of Education Gidan Waya, Nuhu Bamali polytechnic Zaria, Kaduna State College of nursing and midwifery Kafanchan , and kaduna state college of health Makarfi have all embarked on a total and indefinite strike commencing on Tuesday, 30th September 2025. It will be recalled that the institutions have been in a long standing battle with the state government over the implementation of the COMPCASS & CONTDISS salary structure, which have not been implemented for over 15years now. Over the years, the kaduna state government have paid its tertiary institutions using the outdated CONTISS salary scale, and to add salt to injury, mutilated it and pays only 80% of the wages to its workers. This have left lecturers with a take home pay of as low as N64,800. Following several failed MOUs and agreements, most recently the signed agreement for the implementation of the appropriate salary scale by September salary, the government still refused to keep to its end of the agreement, leaving the unions with no choice than to embark on an indefinite strike. The kaduna state government have also failed to implement the new minimum wage of N72,000 to its workers despite several claims that it had done so. A closer look at the reality from workers alerts shows that many still earn far below the minimum wage sand there is absolutely no consequencial adjustment on the salary scale. Primary school teachers still earn N42,000 as at this very moment. The unions in its letters have have vowed to stay away from work and keep the institutions shut until government fulfills its agreement and pays them using the appropriate salary structure. Find below, letters from the unions. https://www.newnigeriannewspapers.ng/kaduna-state-owned-tertiary-institutions-embark-on-indefinite-strike/

U09ce:You're seeing August alert of 64k and you're talking about increment...abi lecturers are not supposed to enjoy minimum wage? Lecturer in level 8 collecting 64k, what will people in level 3 and 4 be collecting? And you're saying he increased salary? |
nedu666:And even the media organizations are in the mix too because these news should be everywhere but it's not. Workers are suffering and nobody is helping. If the media doesn't shame these defaulting states, they'll never implement it because they believe all is well as long as nobody knows |
bennyflipy:The kaduna state government has refused to implement the appropriate salary structure for lecturers in the state owned tertiary institutions for 15years now. That's why lecturers still earn N64,800 as salary in this Nigeria of today. Governor Uba Sani is really disgracing his people! |
AMINDA:Honestly! This Governor is a monumental fraud!! On social media he is portrayed as the best thing after sliced bread but when you look beyond the surface, his government is rotten and wicked. No minimum in Kaduna and yet he's all over the news saying he has implemented it. He pays lecturers in Kaduna N64,800 o... As in N64,800. My God!!! ![]() |
Kaduna Workers Yet To Receive ₦72,000 Minimum Wage Despite Claims By Governor Sani's Administration September 15, 2025 News Documents obtained by NGIJ, including pay slips and bank alerts, revealed significant discrepancies. The Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ) has expressed concerns over the Kaduna State government’s claim that it has commenced payment of the ₦72,000 minimum wage. Despite assurances from state officials, teachers across Kaduna insist they are still receiving salaries based on the old wage structure. Documents obtained by NGIJ, including pay slips and bank alerts, revealed significant discrepancies. In the Lere local government area, a level-7 teacher under Kaduna SUBEB presented evidence of receiving just ₦37,436 as August 2025 salary, paid on September 3. Similarly, in Zaria, another teacher confirmed his August wage stood at ₦42,000. NGIJ explained that reports from several of the state’s 23 local government areas point to a persistent ₦30,000 minimum wage regime, contradicting official pronouncements. Meanwhile, the evidence stands in sharp contrast to claims by Kaduna NLC chairman, Ayuba Suleiman, who had earlier stated that Governor Uba Sani had approved and commenced implementation of the ₦72,000 wage for workers on levels 1–7. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the state’s Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, had earlier reinforced this stance during NGIJ’s visit to his office. However, NGIJ’s investigation revealed that the discrepancies were not limited to basic education teachers. Lecturers at Nuhu Bamili Polytechnic, Zaria, also reported earning salaries below the government’s stated minimum wage threshold. One lecturer, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that he received ₦64,800 as his August 2025 salary. He lamented the absence of the newly announced ₦72,000 minimum wage in his earnings, saying: “There is no reflection of the ₦72,000 minimum wage in our pay. What the government is saying is different from what we are seeing in our bank accounts.” These findings raise pressing concerns about transparency, accountability, and the credibility of the state’s wage administration. While government officials insist that implementation is ongoing, evidence collected by NGIJ during its governance assessment suggests a troublingly different reality. In a preliminary statement, NGIJ President, Abdulrahman Aliagan, noted that the guild was still gathering facts and engaging key stakeholders to ensure a balanced and comprehensive evaluation https://saharareporters.com/2025/09/15/kaduna-workers-yet-receive-n72000-minimum-wage-despite-claims-governor-sanis?utm_source=chatgpt.com

I have seen suffering.... I see it everyday. People talk about minimum wage, salary structures and welfare packages by Governors for its workforce but there's no real connection to what is obtainable in out there, directly from the horse's mouth. Lecturers in Kaduna state are surfering and nobody really knows or cares to fight for them. When they talk about their pay, people find it hard to believe and even go as far as calling them liars. It's sad really. How can you pay lecturers 63k as salary. It's not even close to the minimum wage o. Corpers earn far more than the very lecturers that taught them. How can a lecturer survive on 63k? I can't keep quiet about this. We need the whole country to know their plight.

The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions of Kaduna State (JUTIKS) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Kaduna State Government to address their long-standing demands, failing which an indefinite strike would commence on August 19. Members of JUTIKS comprise of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Kaduna State College of Nursing Sciences, Kaduna and Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, Makarfi. This, was contained in a communique issued to newsmen after a meeting on Tuesday in Kaduna. Signatories to the communique included Christopher Yarima, Chaiman of COEASU Gidan Waya, Abubakar Abdullai, Chaiman NASU Makarfi, Abubakar Aliyu, Chaiman SSANIP, NBPZ, among others. JUTIKS expressed skepticism over the government’s commitment to implementing the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) salary structure, which has been pending for 15 years, leaving lecturers with a paltry N64,000 salary up till this day They stated that in spite being in the third quarter of the year, no tangible action has been taken. The union appreciated Governor Uba Sani’s Executive Order on the 65-year retirement age for academic staff but noted that it falls short of their demands, as non-academic staff were excluded. “JUTIKS is demanding the immediate implementation of the salary structure and the review of the Executive Order to include non-academic staff without additional conditions,”they said. The union emphasised its commitment to working with the government to create a conducive working and learning environment in state-owned tertiary institutions. The Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Education (COEASU), Gidanwaya Chapter, has called on Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State to implement the pending salary structures approved for staff of tertiary institutions. Dr Christopher Yerima, newly elected Chairman of the union in Kaduna State College of Education, Gidanwaya, made the call during his inaugural speech on Monday. Yerima identified the salary structures as the Consolidated Polytechnic and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary education Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), whose implementation were long overdue in the state. He lamented the neglect of the state’s owned tertiary institutions, especially the college of education staff who earn an unbelievable N64,000 salary....a far cry from even the national minimum wage. “This development and other demoralising working conditions among academic staff of the institution had led to the ongoing brain drain in the college. “A lot of our colleagues are moving to other institutions due to poor welfare and unencouraging working conditions,” he said. He also called on the state government to prioritise teacher education in the state and improve infrastructural facilities in the college, including staff offices. The chairman equally called for the integration of the college into the state’s proposed education reform agenda, among other demands. He thanked the lecturers for finding him worthy of piloting the affairs of the union and promised to operate an open-door policy, where all issues affecting academic staff would be addressed promptly. Other officials who took the oath of office are David Madami, Vice Chairman, Victor Bowman Secretary, Grace Alkali, Treasurer, Sadiq Abubakar, Organising Secretary, and Dr Matthew Barde Publicity Secretary. elitejayjeff:I didn't use the image. The publisher from punch newspaper made the error and the mods here on nairaland also followed suit. |
bennyflipy:Yes you can send me a DM. Yes you can send me a DM anytime |
bennyflipy:See me post under yours. We don't get a dme extra. Don't mind him |
Trymeee:The way people like you come and start saying things you don't know really amazes me. I'm a lecturer in the institution, I am the OP of the thread, I brought my case to the public and you're here talking about non-existent allowances. Nobody gives us a dime extra for anything. Your salary at the end of the month is the only thing you get. God is my witness
|
werisetogether:What exactly do you mean by this submission? The comparison is to show you how bad the situation is. Should Corpers earn more than lecturers to begin with? Should lecturers be paid N64,400 as salary? |
SoftSport:You sound just like them...trying to smooth talk your way out of the present realities. Families are looking for what to eat this very moment and you're trying to make this political. The kaduna state govt needs to pay her lecturers their well deserved appropriate salaries immediately...period! |
Trymeee:El rufai is no different. Why didn't he implement the appropriate salary structure during his eight years as governor? This is about doing the right thing.... Now! |
SoftSport:Will reach?... When? After refusing to implement the appropriate salary structure for 15years, leaving them suffering with this high inflation? |
Kaduna poly, education college lecturers’ allege corps members earn higher payhttps://punchng.com/kaduna-poly-education-college-lecturers-allege-corps-members-earn-higher-pay/

destinychildolu:Then let he and his aids come and collect the N64,400 per month. Let's see how prudent they can be |
TallNigerian:Even secondary school teachers in the same kaduna state earn more than the lecturers, with grade 8 teachers earning N89,000. It all boils down to implementation of the right salary structure for lecturers. It's been 15years of suffering! |
It's no longer news that lecturers in Kaduna state tertiary institutions are on strike. However, the public in not entirely aware of their untold struggles over the past 15 years....with many finding their claims almost unbelievable. Lecturers in polytechnics and colleges of education all over the country are paid using a the COMPOCASS AND CONTEDSS salary structure which was agreed upon in 2010 and implemented in 2012. However, the kaduna state government have refused to implement the agreed salary structure ever since and still use the outdated CONTISS structure to pay it's workers. As if that wasn't enough, the kaduna state government went ahead to slash the salaries again and pays only 80% of the CONTISS salary to its lecturers. As unbelievable as this may sound, that it the absolute fact. As a result of this mutilation of their salaries, an assistant lecturer on Grade 7/02 earns N64,800 monthly while Lecturer III on grade 8/02 earns N75,800 monthly. It would also interest you to know that if you get employed as a lecturer and serve for 10 years, with uninterrupted promotions, your salary will still not reach N100,000 a month. A youth Corp member today earns more than a lecturer in Kaduna state. This is the sad but true reality lecturers are facing in Kaduna state and it has caused a serious brain-drain in the system with many leaving in droves to any available alternative. In two weeks time, their will be a total and indefinite strike action across all tertiary institutions in Kaduna State of the government doesn't correct this anomaly in due time. A concerned kaduna citizen, speaking for the voiceless!!!

How can lecturers be paid N64,400 a month. Isn't that the height of wickedness by the government. |

The Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya chapter of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU has called for a three day warning strike beginning on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The Union and two other affiliate bodies, SSUCOEN and NASU are embarking on the industrial action to press home their two points demand which include, the immediate implementation of the 15 years old CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for tertiary institution. This is contained in the Schemes and Conditions of Service of NCCE, the regulatory body for all Colleges of Education. The kaduna state college of nursing and midwifery, and Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic are also drowning tools to press their demands. Non-implementaion of the 15 year old revised salary structure makes them the least paid lecturers in the entire country, with some earning as liitle as N63,000 a month. The Union is also asking for a review of the Executive Order on 65 years retirement age for academic to include the non-academinc staff as contained in the Schemes and Condition of Service of NCCE, the regulatory body of all Colleges of Education in Nigeria without any punitive additional requirement. The Union in a statement to its Congress Men and Women recalled the 14 day ultimatum issued by the Joint Congress of Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya to the Kaduna State Government on June 2, 2025, where the demands were made. “Following the expiration of the of the ultimatum on 18th June 2015 without any tangible offer, it became necessary for the Joint Union to embark on a three (3) day warning strike starting from Thursday, 19th June, 2025 to Monday, 23rd June 2025.” The Union called on members to adhere strictly to the directive, while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring synergy with the State Government, as it remains open to constructive dialogue with the hope of a swift resolution. Richtaiwo:All these noise you're making on top of someone who even gave something to the workers. What about kaduna state with their APC governor Uba Sani. He didn't give a dime to workers as wage award. Not even the 15k Otti gave his people. Uba Sani has not even said a word about the 70k minimum wage in his state not to talk of implementing it. Rubbish! |
