The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has been urged to introduce group work in their marking scheme. This was coming from the guest lecturer, Mr Augustine Ngafuan who is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Liberia during WAEC’s 20th Annual Endowment Fund Lecture held at Multipurpose Hall, WAEC International Office in Ikeja, Lagos. According to him, in the job world, our performances or destiny is affected by the actions or inactions of others since many tasks have to be executed in teams. “In order to encourage team works and skills in youth, WAEC working with school administrators can derive a system whereby a student’s final score in WAEC exam is the combination of his scores plus an extra point that takes into consideration group or team performance. Thus, the student’s final score becomes an aggregate of the individual score in an exam, plus the score of the team which the student was a member.” Ngafuan emphasized. |

An unusual baby boy with ’12’ birthmark on his forehead born in Johannesburg, South Africa left his parents and doctors puzzled. Baby Hanru van Niekerk’s was born on November 11 and some believe that he may have arrived a day early judging by his unusual ’12’ birthmark. And although the birthmark appeared right in middle of Hanru’s forehead, his family noticed the number only a few days later when they brought the baby home. His great-grandmother Catherine Jooste, 70, said: “My youngest daughter was the first one to see it and she said there is a 1 and a 2 on his forehead. We did not worry about it, his doctor said it will fade as he gets older.” According to dermatologist Patrice Hyde, babies can develop birthmarks before or shortly after birth, they usually fade or disappear completely over time. No one knows what causes blood vessels to group together, but it’s good to know that most birthmarks aren’t a sign of any kind of illness and usually don’t hurt at all.”

Elections: UK Prime Minister Warns Jonathan Ahead of Saturday’s polls, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron has written a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan. In a statement made available to Vanguard, the Prime Minister warned Jonathan that failure to allow the March 28 elections go on as scheduled, ‘would risk national security and stability, and adversely affect Nigeria’s international reputation’. According to Cameron, it is important for Nigeria’s elections to be successful not only for the country’s future but also because it will be a signal to the rest of Africa. “Delivering a credible process will be a lasting credit to you as President and to Nigeria as a nation. “With hundreds of lives lost after the last election, the eyes of the international community will be focused on Nigeria,” he said. The Prime Minister commended Nigeria her and neighbouring countries for tackling the threat posed by the dreaded Islmaist sect, Boko Haram. Details on Vanguard. |
