The expectation was that a man who seeks to lead over 200 million Nigerians would offer a clear, firm, and unwavering condemnation and stand by it. Instead, the controversy arose because his initial reaction was deleted after backlash. That is the issue people remember.

The same question applies to other victims of mob violence and alleged blasphemy-related killings. Where was the sustained campaign? Where were the repeated press conferences, media appearances, demands for justice, and passionate advocacy that we now see when other incidents occur? If 37 mining deaths deserve national outrage today, then surely the gruesome murders of Deborah Samuel, Bridget Agbahime, and other victims deserved the same intensity of concern.

Bringing Tinubu into the discussion does not answer that question. It is a textbook case of whataboutism. If Tinubu has failed in any area, criticize him directly. That still does not explain or excuse inconsistency from Atiku. Two things can be true at the same time: people can criticize Tinubu's government and also question Atiku's selective activism.
