Politics › Certificate Forgery: Why Buhari Should Not Sack Adeosun – Sagay by sirequity(op): 9:04am On Aug 10, 2018 |
ITSE Sagay, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has opined why President Muhammadu Buhari should not sack his Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, over certificate forgery hanging on her neck.
The Buhari-led administration who claims the fight against corruption was without political affiliation and partisan has refused to act on the alleged forgery involving Mrs Adeosun who is said to have forged her exception certificate from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
An online publication which published the story not only reported that the finance minister forged the document, she is also reported to have graduated at the age of 22, skipping the one year mandatory programme by the NYSC for all graduands below the age of 30.
In addition to being a requirement for government and private sector jobs in Nigeria, the enabling law prescribes punishment for anyone who absconds from the scheme or forges its certificates.
Eligible Nigerians who skipped the service are liable to be sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and/or N2,000 fine, according to Section 13 of the NYSC law.
Section 13 (3) of the law also prescribes three-year jail term or option of N5,000 fine for anyone who contravenes provision of the law as Mrs Adeosun was alleged to have done.
Speaking during the workshop on the United Kingdom Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO), organised by PACAC, UK National Crime Agency and the Department for International Development (DfID) on Thursday, Sagay said the minister should not be shown the exit door because of her performance in office.
“…This woman is a brilliant and extremely valuable member of this government,” the PACAC chairman said.
“A lot of the good things happening now – the welfare that Nigerians are enjoying and are going to enjoy, because it takes time, and the way our economy is booming, how we got out of recession – are due to her expertise, her commitment, her sacrifice.
“There is nothing in this world that will make me remove such a woman from the government. The PDP can weep from now until there is no tear in their body; she is going to be there. We cannot afford to lose that woman.
“I’m telling you now. If you ask me – If I were President Buhari, I would never, ever touch that woman because she’s damn good.
“The enemies of this government want to reduce his capacity to provide good governance by engaging in social media attacks and trying to get rid of her. It will not work,” he said.
Sagay also condemned the freezing of bank accounts belong to state government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).
The bank accounts of two state governments, Benue and Akwa Ibom, were recently frozen by the EFCC. While Benue noted that the restriction on its own accounts have been fully lifted, those placed on accounts belonging to Akwa Ibom were partially removed. The two states are governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
He said although the anti-graft agency has the right to probe state governors, it does not have the right to arrest them as they are under the cover of immunity while they are still in office. Source: https://www.headlineng.com/certificate-forgery-why-buhari-should-not-sack-adeosun-sagay/ |

THOSE criticising the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, has been described as thieves and saboteurs.
The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole, made the description on Thursday while speaking at the party’s mega rally at Kangiwa Square, in Daura, the hometown of President Buhari on Thursday.
Mr Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, said saboteurs where bent on promoting lies to resist the change being introduced by the Buhari-led administration aimed at alleviating the plights of Nigerians.
For critics he said their handiwork was to misguide Nigerians so that things would continue the way they were during the previous administration when “looting was in vogue in Nigeria.”
“Buhari’s critics are saboteurs and thieves of a government that is working hard to clean the Augean stable of the mess created by the previous administration in Nigeria,” Oshiomhole said.
“Those critics are making it difficult for Nigerians to see the legacy the President is leaving behind for them under this administration,” he added.
The APC national chairman said Buhari’s programmes and policies were geared towards bringing the country out of the political, social and economic morass it was enmeshed in during PDP 16 years of misrule.
He argued that the critics who claimed that Buhari administration had failed were merely promoting the kind of propaganda that would help foster their own political interest ahead of 2019 general elections, which he said they would fail woefully.
Oshiomhole reiterated that Buhari had done a lot to save the Nigerian economy, which was tottering towards an eclipse, thereby making it easy for Nigerians to have access to soft loans and other resources they need in their small and medium scale enterprises as well as farming.
Addressing APC stalwarts at the rally, the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, urged the people to cast their votes for the APC candidates in order for the party to maintain it majority at the Senate.
“You know that Katsina state and even this particularly constituency is the constituency of Mr. President, so every vote for Hon. Ahmed Baba Kaita is the vote for Mr. President.
“We must have a majority in the senate because politics is about numbers. So we must make sure that we vote him because we want to maintain our majority,” Osinbajo said. https://www.headlineng.com/buharis-critics-thieves-saboteurs-oshiomhole/ |

Politics › June 12: APP Accuses Buhari Of Plagiarism, Threatens Legal Action by sirequity(op): 10:17pm On Jun 07, 2018 |
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of plagiarism on the recent declaration of June 12 as the new democracy day in Nigeria.
Making the allegation on Thursday, the Action Peoples Party (APP) accused Mr Buhari of hijacking its idea on the topic matter.
President Buhari had on Wednesday announced that June 12 will now be celebrated in the country as Democracy Day in honour of Moshood Abiola, who won the annulled presidential election of June 12, 1993.
Mr Abiola, who died in July 1998, will also be conferred with the nation’s highest honour, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), along side his running mate in that election, Babagana Kingibe, who will be conferred with the second highest honour of Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON).
Mr Abiola was arrested in 1994 in the course of the struggle to claim his mandate and later died in custody in July 1998.
The APP in a statement by its National Chairman, Ikenga Ugochinyere, said the president’s action is a desperate move to woo the South-west and pro-democracy votes. This was the same position the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adopted while reacting to the declaration.
“APP is shocked to see that the President Buhari-led federal government has now graduated to hijacking ideas of true democrats without giving due credit in a desperate bid to secure lost South West and pro-democracy block votes.
“Few months ago, we launched our party’s healing and national reconciliation agenda, which includes the ceremonial declaration of M.K.O Abiola the winner of the June 12 election and also the enactment of a legislation called the June 12 Act which will declare June 12 of every year as our National democracy day.
“We presented the draft bill to the public on live television to express our readiness to heal the wounds of the past and honour our fallen democratic hero.
“APP is in awe that a president who has not done a single creative thing since his election in 2015 would in his desperation to woo South West and pro-democracy votes attempt to hijack a well-thought out initiative of the APP without giving credit to the initiators of the idea.
“To see Buhari pretend to be on the side of June 12 because of his desperation to garner lost goodwill from South West and pro-democracy block is a joke taken too far when the same president few weeks ago was seen praising the former dictator Abacha whose regime denied Nigeria the chance to have an Abiola presidency,” the APP said.
The party therefore declared it will be taking legal action within 48 hours if the president does not give them credit for their newly launched political manifesto and agenda. THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari intents to confer a national honour on late Chief MKO Abiola, an acclaim winner of the 1993 annuled presidential poll.
The PDP said Mr Buhari merely sought to use the name and person of Chief Abiola to gain a political capital and not out of genuine reverence and recognition for him.
It therefore described the president’s action as a desperation to win the 2019 election.
Mr Abiola is to be honoured with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).
Others to be accorded similar regards are: Baba Gana Kingibe, Abiola’s running mate during the election, and Gani Fawehinmi, one of Nigeria’s foremost rights activist, now late, the duo to be conferred with Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
President Buhari stated this while adopting a new date, June 12, that will henceforth be celebrated as the country’s democracy day discarding the May 29 for which it has always be celebrated. His action has attracted mixed reactions with some commending him and others reading political undertune to it.
In a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party said it recalls that President Buhari, who was serving in the military administration of General Sani Abacha during the travails of Chief MKO Abiola, did not associate either by words or actions with the late winner of June 12 election.
The party further stated that history did not record President Buhari as sympathetic to the Abiola’s family when his wife, Kudirat, was gruesomely murdered by the agents of a government which President Buhari served.
“It is therefore a sign of political desperation for President Buhari to seek to use Chief Abiola’s name as a tool to sway Nigerians in less than twelve months to an election where he, (President Buhari) is seeking a second term.
“It is also shocking that the respectable grave of Abiola can be dishonoured by granting a posthumous award on him along with someone who denounced the June 12 mandate and preferred the company of his (Abiola’s) traducers.
“Even those who now masquerade as change agents were opposed to the naming of University of Lagos after Chief Abiola. If President Buhari genuinely wants to honour Chief Abiola, he should do so by ending all anti-democratic proclivities of his administration and allow for the rule of law and respect for our constitution,” it said.
The PDP therefore urged President Buhari to shed his desperate actions in his quest to win the 2019 presidential election as Nigerians can no longer be deceived by such antics. Source: https://www.google.com.ng/amp/s/www.headlineng.com/pdp-buhari-honour-abiola/amp/

Home Metro News Police: We Have New Evidence Linking Saraki With Offa Robbery Suspects By Obayemi Rachael -June 6, 2018
THE Nigeria Police has claimed it now has in its possession new evidences linking Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to the arrested suspects of Offa Banks Robbery.
The latest allegations come a day after the National Assembly passed some resolutions on the Buhari administration’s conduct one of which is an immediate end to continued hostilities between the executive and the legislature.
The force made the assertion on Wednesday saying one of the latest evidence includes a picture of one of the suspects at a recent wedding ceremony of Mr Saraki’s daughter.
“New revelations from further investigation into the matter show that all the five (5) gang leaders namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran have direct connection to the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki as new pictures of one of the five (5) gang leaders when paraded by the Police early in the week was in ‘Aso Ebi’ (trouser) used during the Senate President daughter’s wedding.
“The Five (5) gang leaders further admitted that they attended the Senate President daughter’s wedding held recently,” police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, said in a statement.
However, HEADLINE can authoritatively report that the police dugged out its new evidence from photos that has been circulating on social media.
The police which had earlier summoned Mr Saraki on Sunday backtracked on Monday asking the top lawmaker to submit a written statement to the police about what he knew of the April 5 armed robbery attack in Offa, Kwara State.
The police gave Mr Saraki 48 hours to complete a written statement, a demand the Senate President said he would meet. https://www.headlineng.com/police-evidence-linking-saraki-offa-robbery-suspects/

BARELY two months after he resumed from a 180 legislative days suspension for allegations of budget padding, Abdulmumin Jibrin (Kano APC), maybe heading for another stiff legislative sanction. Lawmakers had on Tuesday charged Mr Buhari to take responsibility for actions of his appointees and desist from being selective in his anti-corruption war, among other resolutions. Senate President Bukola Saraki, who read the resolutions, added that the legislature will exercise its constitutional power if Mr Buhari fails to act. Countering the resolution, Jibrin on Tuesday, released a statement on behalf of a disbanded group, Parliamentary Support Group, of the National Assembly. In his statement, the group of which Jibrin is a member kicked against the resolutions of the legislative arm, an action they did not take at the Joint session of the two chamber where the decision was arrived at. At Wednesday’s sitting, a matter of breach of privilege moved by Sunday Karimi (Kogi, PDP) drew the attention of the House of Representative to the statement by Mr. Jibrin. Mr Karimi said there was need to call Mr Jibrin to order because he had turned the House “upside down.” Referring the matter to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, the Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Dogara, condemned the action of the Kano lawmaker and described him as always absent but always the first to run to the press. “I have a problem with members who don’t come for sitting and immediately approaching the press when a decision is taken,” he said. “We shouldn’t mislead the public, it is very unfortunate,” the speaker said. https://www.headlineng.com/reps-probe-jibrin-counter-nass-resolution-buhari/ |

Politics › Why We Suspended Talks With APC, Presidency — Npdp by sirequity(op): 11:35am On Jun 05, 2018 |
THE ongoing negotiation between the All Progressive Congress (APC), the Presidency and aggrieved members of the party who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), popularly known as new PDP (nPDP) has hit brick wall.
Talks between the trio has been suspended with the nPDP alleging that the actions of the presidency alongside that of the party has shown the duo was not ready for reconciliation.
The nPDP said the persecution of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the withdrawal of his security details, and the decision of the APC to go ahead with the ratification of all the congresses from wards, local governments, states and zones where many of its members had complaints were clear signs that both presidency and the party are opposed to its want of reunion.
The scheduled session of all the parties in Abuja on Monday was aborted as a result of the protest.
The aggrieved nPDP in a statement by its chairman, Alh. Abubakar Kawu Baraje, noted that it might not be available for further talks unless good faith returns to the discussions.
“The public may recall that there have been ongoing talks between members of the former nPDP, the APC and the Presidency in recent days.
“Nigerians may further recall that a team from the former nPDP led by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and four others, were to meet with the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo today.
“However, while we are truly and earnestly committed to achieving reconciliation, harmony, truce and cohesion in the APC as we approach the 2019 general elections, it appears that the Presidency is not interested in the talks and that they may have been negotiating in bad faith.
“We were alarmed that immediately after our meeting with the Vice President last week, the Presidency misrepresented what transpired at the meeting by trying to blackmail some of the principal actors involved in the discussions in a national daily.
“Similarly, the leadership of the party (APC) went ahead to ratify all the Congresses from ward, local governments, states and zonal where many of our members have complaints, effectively presenting us with a fait accompli.
“The persecution of our members, using state security apparatus, have continued unabated.
“We recognise the powers of the Police to conduct criminal investigations but by rushing to the public with the issue even when they have unfettered access to the leadership of the National Assembly suggests an attempt to undermine, caricature and humiliate the institution of the legislature.
“It appears that there is a fouled and toxic atmosphere and environment of intimidation and threat to life in which we now find ourselves which may no longer be conducive for members of the former nPDP to continue with the talks, given the unfolding events in the last 24 hours”.
It faulted Saraki’s and Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s implication in the Offa robbery attack
It said Saraki and Ahmed , both of whom attended the meeting with the Vice President on 28 May, “have suddenly been accused of sponsoring armed robbery by the Police”.
“Similarly, on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018, the Department of State of Services (DSS) also suddenly withdrew more than half of all the security detail attached to the presiding officers of the National Assembly under questionable circumstances.
“The nPDP leadership has decided to brief our members on the unfortunate development and get a fresh mandate if good faith returns to the discussions.” Source: https://www.headlineng.com/suspended-talks-apc-presidency-npdp/

Politics › APC Will Rule Nigeria Forever, Buhari’s Minister Says by sirequity(op): 10:57pm On Jun 04, 2018 |
THE All Progressive Congress (APC) will rule Nigeria forever, a serving minister of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has said.
Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan who made the declaration on Monday said the APC will not only emerge winner of the presidency in 2019 but will also win more states to itself.
She stated this while addressing journalists shortly after the inauguration of a factional chairman of the APC in Taraba State, on Monday in Abuja.
The same prediction was made for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when one of its chieftain boasted that the party will rule the country for 60 years. However the prediction was cut short at 16 years with the emergence of the APC at the 2015 polls.
Notifying her intention to contest the state governorship election come 2019, Alhassan said the party´s coming national convention slated for June 23 would be peaceful.
“Crisis is normal in a big party like APC, once we can do our national convention, then we face the opposition PDP and I assure you that APC will win more states like Taraba in 2019.
“I will make sure that in my zone, I follow up and by God’s grace Gombe and Taraba (states) will be taken over in 2019. And don’t even talk about Nigeria because it’s already APC and it will continue to be APC forever.”
Alhassan added she won the election in 2015 ”but wasn’t destined to be governor”.
“I won the 2015 election, everyone knows that, even the Peoples Democratic Party. I will re-contest the election again in 2019 if God keeps me alive and well.
“It is God that gives power to whoever he desires, I won the election 2015, but God did not give me power. I will keep trusting in him and the grassroots people of Taraba and God willing, I will win the election,” she said.
Speaking on the APC factions in Taraba State, she said: “I have a right to choose who becomes the chairman of the party in the state. There is no faction in Taraba. We are very much together, there was no love lost in the state, we were never divided. It was all about political interests.” https://www.headlineng.com/apc-rule-nigeria-forever-buharis-minister/

Politics › Confusion Over Alleged Withdrawal Of Saraki, Dogara’s Security Details by sirequity(op): 9:56am On Jun 04, 2018 |
THERE is confusion over the present state of security details attached to Bukola Saraki, Senate President and that of Yakubu Dogara, Speaker, House of Representatives.
There were reports that the State Security Service (SSS) withdrew the security details of the top lawmakers.
The report emerged hours after the Nigeria Police summoned Mr Saraki to appear before its probe panel investigating his link with arrested suspects who took part in Offa robbery in Kwara State.
The security outfit which self-styled itself as the Department of State Services (DSS) ordered its operatives attached to the lawmakers to report themselves at their headquarters in Abuja, Vanguard Newspaper reported.
In its own version, TheCable reports that the action is believed to have been at the instance of the presidency.
The DSS since its director-general, Lawal Daura, was appointed, has no known spokesperson making the confirmation of this story difficult.
But a report from another national daily quoting an unknown spokesman claimed the report is false as there was no such directive from the agency.
“I can tell you authoritatively that the service never gave such directive. For emphasis, we have not withdrawn neither are we planning to withdraw our personnel in the security details of the two presiding officers of the National Assembly. There is no iota of truth in that report,” Daily Sun quoted Nnanna Nnochiri, an acclaimed spokesman of the agency to have said.
Efforts to reach Saraki’s aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, for confirmation was not successful as he did not answer calls or reply to an sms sent to his known telephone number as at press time. https://www.headlineng.com/confusion-withdrawal-security-details-saraki-dogara/ |

BUKOLA Saraki, President of the 8th Senate has dismissed claims that he sponsored the arrested suspects who alleged took part in Offa robbery in Kwara State.
The police had on Sunday named Saraki as a suspect in its ongoing investigation, summoning him to appear before its probe panel in Abuja. The police based it action on the confessional statements of suspects it arrested in connection to the attack.
His state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, was also name as a co-sponsor of the suspects. He has since distanced himself from the allegation.
The duo are accused of sponsoring, funding, arming or otherwise supporting political thuggery.
However, reacting Mr Saraki, on Sunday declared that he was willing to honour the invitation of the police, once he formally receives it.
Deny that he has any links to any of the robbery suspects arrested for their roles in the Offa bank robbery, Saraki said “there is no way I could have been associated with armed robbery against my people.”
In his statement Sunday night signed by his spokesperson, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Mr Saraki said being linked to the Offa robbery suspects is a plot “concocted to embarrass” him.
Below is Mr Saraki’s full statement:
The attention of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has been drawn to a story circulating online and apparently derived from a Press Conference addressed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moshood Jimoh, linking him (Saraki) to the Offa robbery.
Dr. Saraki will want the entire public to disregard this claim as a baseless allegation and another ploy by the Police to implicate him by all means. “Let it be known that there is no way I could have been associated with armed robbery against my people.”
“When the Offa robbery incident happened, I was the first top public official to pay a visit to the place and right there in the palace of the traditional ruler, I put a call through to this same Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the IGP, requesting him to make certain specific security arrangements as demanded by the people.
“Members of the public will remember that on May 16, 2018, I alerted the Senate about the information passed on to me by my State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatai Ahmed, over a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to frame me up by getting some suspected cultists arrested in Ilorin to implicate me. It is believed that the timely leakage of the plot in that case aborted the use of the suspected cultists to implicate me. Now, it is the Offa bank robbery suspects that are about to be used.
“This plot is concocted to embarrass me and, in the mind of the IGP, it is his own response after his refusal to honour the invitation by the National Assembly, headed me, for him to come and offer explanations on the rampant killings and violence across the country.
“Like the earlier one, this frame-up will also fail as I hereby state categorically that I have no link with any band of criminals.
“As a person who has utmost respect for the rule of law and all constitutional institutions, when the invitation from the Police is formally extended to me, I will be ready to honour it without any delay.
“It is however sad that this abuse of the criminal investigation process aimed at intimidating and over-overawing the legislature, thereby obstructing it from doing its work, is a big threat to our democracy “, the Senate President stated Source: https://www.headlineng.com/offa-robbery-police-allegation-baseless-saraki/lalasticlala, mynd44

Politics › Offa Robbery: Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed Denies Sponsoring Arrested Suspects by sirequity(op): 6:25pm On Jun 03, 2018 |
ABDULFATAH Ahmed, Kwara State Governor, has denied ever sponsoring suspects arrested in connection with an armed robbery attack which took place in Offa.
Mr Ahmed’s denial surfaced hours after the Nigeria police summoned Bukola Saraki, Nigeria’s Senate Preaident, to appear before its probe panel of the robbery attack
The police had on Sunday named the duo as suspects in their ongoing investigation with the summon of the top lawmaker as the latest development on the issue. The police based it action on the confessional statements of suspects it arrested in connection to the attack.
They are accused of sponsoring, funding, arming or otherwise supporting political thuggery.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Muyideen Akorede, Mr Ahmed described the allegations as false and rejected his alleged indictment by the Nigeria police.
He said while the state government has empowered several youth groups under its acclaimed Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) scheme, neither he nor the statement government can be held liable for how beneficiaries utilise the credit urging the police to complete their investigations and charge the suspects to court soon in line with the dictates of the rule of law.
Read the full text of the governor’s statement below.
Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed denies the allegations of supporting political thuggery or any other acts of criminality as alleged by the Nigeria police or the suspects allegedly arrested in connection with the tragic Offa robbery. Neither has he at any time funded or provided arms to any individual or group in the state or anywhere in the country.
To set the records straight, the Kwara State Government has a well known empowerment scheme under the Small And Medium Enterprises platform which is used to move women and youths groups into entrepreneurship. Consequently, several youth and women groups have benefitted from the scheme to date. However, at no point did the Kwara State government directly provide funds to any group known as Good Boys for any purpose.
Similarly, if any of the beneficiaries chose to use the SME credit secured from the government to purchase a vehicle which was then alleged to have been used for an act of criminality, the Kwara State Governor and indeed the state government cannot be held liable for such actions since neither had prior knowledge of such intentions on beneficiaries’ part.
The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, also rejects the police allegation of arming and funding the suspects for political thuggery or for any other activity as false and unfounded as thuggery or any other form of criminality is neither encouraged nor supported by the state government or its agents.
While refuting the alleged indictment, therefore, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed expresses the hope that the police will soon complete its investigations and charge the suspects to court in line with rule of law. He said when he accepted the appointment, he had believed that the Convention would hold on May 14, but that the new date of June 23 would clash with his long term ambition to attend the graduation of two of his children from universities in England.
“I want to announce to you that, yesterday, I tendered my resignation as the secretary of the APC Convention Planning Committee and the resignation was accepted last night by the national chairman of the party”.
“The reason why I resigned, primarily, is that when I was appointed, the date for the national convention, as we were informed, was to be on May 14.
“Eventually that date was moved to June 2 and there were hopes that the Convention would hold between June 2 and 9. However, the date has now been moved to June 23 and it will conflict with my family activities and responsibilities.
“For example, two of my children are graduating from the university in England within this month and I have a responsibility to be there and I have some other jobs at hand too. So, I decided that since I won’t have the time for this convention, I should resign so that the position can be given to somebody who has the time. It is a decision that I took by myself.
“My appointment was by the NWC and nobody has asked me to leave this position. The NWC met yesterday and there was nowhere in their meeting where I was asked to resign. It is a decision I made by myself. However, in any decision you take, there must be political consequences”.
On whether he was traded off to accommodate the interests of his state governor, Rochas Okorocha with whom he has had a running battle alongside other stakeholders, Uwajumogu said, “For me, my relationship with him is not a personal thing; all of us in Imo State are opposed to the way government in Imo State is being run.
“Our opposition to that is something that is based on principle; based on the fact that 95 percent of Imo citizens and indeed south easterners are not happy with what is happening in Imo State. South East citizens are ashamed that the only state where we, APC, have in the region is being run the way it is in the past three years, and for me, I did not have any choice but to detach myself from that government.
“As a matter of fact, I am happy now that I have resigned, maybe it will be clear that the convention, which is slated to elect national officers, is not manipulated. I am aware that the governor is supporting some South East citizens to run for offices zoned to the region, and so now that I have resigned, nobody will accuse me of manipulating the process.”
Senator Uwajumogu added that the convention was not threatened by his exit as the committee had concluded virtually all arrangements to hold the exercise despite having received only N13 million so far for its activities.
He further debunked insinuations that he was squeezed out over financial malfeasance.
He said he had read reports in the social media sponsored by some state elements saying he was sacked because he embezzled convention funds.
He, however, said that Imo State under Okorocha was now a massive basket of fraud.
“Now that I have resigned, I can only hope that my governor, Rochas Okorocha, will spend more time in Imo State attending to the various issues that he has created for himself because, in the last two weeks, he has been here in Abuja running around for the convention and trying to put only people that are favourable to his policies.
“Okorocha has always threatened to leave the party if the congresses were not reversed. I hear he has threatened to leave if my position was not taken. This started more than two weeks ago and it is just a coincidence because I had made up my mind to leave. I am just hoping that now that I have left, he will return to Owerri. He has 27 hospitals he said he had built, which have been overtaken by weeds. Imo State is a massive basket of fraud and I am very sure that the EFCC has its records.
“It is very clear today that this is no longer an Imo issue but a south east issue. It is very clear now that the entire south east has lost confidence in the leadership of Rochas Anayo Okorocha and all we are saying is that Nigerians should take note that we no longer have him as our leader.”
The party has, however, moved to bridge the gap as it has appointed the chairman of the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, to replace him. Source: https://www.headlineng.com/apc-convention-planning-committee-secretary-resigns-replaced/
