KingMEXX: ASUU to Jonathan: Media chat empty, less comforting

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday criticised President Goodluck Jonathan media chat on the country’s 53rd Independence Day celebration, describing it as empty and less comforting.
The union said President Jonathan’s media chat has succeeded in further showing Nigerians the clueless nature of the leadership to solving pressing problems of insecurity, corruption and the comatose education sector.
ASUU in a release signed by the Chairman of the University of Ibadan Chapter, Dr Olusegun Ajiboye, titled: “Nigeria at 53: No message of hope for Nigerians Yet,” said the hope that Nigerians had to listen to practical solutions to the problems in the country was dashed when they listened to the “empty” interview which offered no solutions.
While picking holes in the President Jonathan’s chat, ASUU bemoaned the quality of the nation’s leadership and its failure to provide solution to problems affecting the masses, especially the poor.
The union asked Nigerians to prevail upon “this government to consider the poor and the children of the poor by giving the needed and necessary attention to public education in Nigeria.”
ASUU said the presidential team needs to work on the president to bring messages of hope and not dampen the morale of the already dejected Nigerians.
He said: “Nigerians were all disappointed at President Jonathan’s media chat on the eve on the 53rd independence anniversary of the country. Many Nigerians expected their President to come out with practical solutions and cogent policy statements on urgent, burning national issues were greatly disappointed at the drab media chat. The President cannot be quoted on any of the issues raised during the interview. Most of his answers were not only evasive but lame. Critical issues, such as Boko Haram insurgency, lingering ASUU strike were all treated with mere disdain by the President. The closure of Nigerian universities for upwards of three months received a lackadaisical treatment from Mr. President.
“Nigerians were at sea when their President and Commander- in- Chief was asked questions on one Boko Haram leader, and the President could only replied that “I don’t know him”. Mr. President, do you need to sit down in town hall meetings before you know the terrorists inflicting lots of pains and agonies on your people daily? Did Obama need to know Osama bin Laden before he took decisive action to end his reign of terror?”

ASUU and their strike has entered another session.
1 was infrastructure : ASUU was given 100 billion for a start
2 earned allowance : ASUU was given 30 billion and also was advised by the president to fund it from internal generated revenue of the university and said it wasn't even mandatory.
3 university autonomy : ASUU not in your widest dream, so that you guys can hijack tuition fee?
4 transfer of government properties to university :never new ASUU are now into land and property management
5 retirement age of professor should be 70: when David Cameron of Britain increased retirement age from 60 to 62, their was mass protest. in Nigeria, reverse is the case.
Nigerian students should prepare to spend more time at home, for those who watch the chart, you can tell that Gej won't add a dime to what has already been released.
I total disagree with you bc is the same government that eneter d agrement in 2009.and d same government sign MOU in 2012[/qu

government is not refusing to release fund, its a step taken to solve the problem. believe it or not ASUU can't continue with this confrontation of federal government and expect positive results. we know ASUU mean well but if you argue too long that you're right, you'll loose public sympathy and you'll become wrong.

Hearme: Which universities are you even talking about? The least university in South Africa is better than our best. Don't even mention Egypt or Kenya? Same applies to our hospitals, what has the FG done to improve the hospitals? Why are they all traveling out for check up? Why is the petroleum industry bill pending? Why is Farouk case and other high profile cases pending? Why is there serious attention to the divide in PDP rather than attention to National issues. Why is it easier to do bad things and very difficult to do good things? Why is it easier to grant amnesty to militants and bail out banks, and we cannot bail out education and health? Why is it that Nigeria is the only OPEC country that imports refined Oil. Why can't I have power supply for 72hours stretch and my fixed charge has been increased by 200% in 3 years (250- 750)?

Why do we have several individuals who are billionaires without companies or who don't have a minimum of 100 people on their payroll? Which kind of business are they doing, that does not create jobs, yet they are billionaires? Finally, why can the EFCC prosecute again as of the old days and why has the judiciary joined alliance with corruption? One day someone will answer this questions, or a people will fight for their freedom, or a total revolution will occur. Please remember that a goat has teeth, so continue pushing it, one day it will bite you and you will wonder if it was a dog.
why don't you port into the countries you mentioned? can you lead a revolution that took place in Egypt? even after that, has their been breath of fresh air? no body can achieve anything with confrontation. agreement whether signed or not are always renegotiated if need be. when subsidy protest started, youths lost their life and after that government decision stood its ground.

EducationRe: Benefits Of ASUU Strike To State Universities by Sirkris(m): 7:31am On Sep 29, 2013
apart from ETF, they gain nothing. when for instance, a state university lecturers are agitating for increased wages, will these federal university join? the answer is no. the reason is because all state have different allocation from federation account and there internal generated revenues varies according to the resources they have, so we can expect national ASUU to join in agitating for unilateral allowance for states university. if you ask the state university lecturers, they will tell you it's sympathy strike.

PoliticsRe: Baraje, atiku, amaechi — Why We Are Taking Over PDP by Sirkris(m): 8:27am On Sep 02, 2013
drama, Atiku knows he can't get the presidential ticket where Jonathan is contesting, so he opted for a faction. if he gets it there on a free run, he will pick Amaechi as he's running mate. now the question is this : will the south south people vote Atiku because Amaechi is his running mate?
PoliticsRe: Baraje, atiku, amaechi — Why We Are Taking Over PDP by Sirkris(m): 8:16am On Sep 02, 2013
egift: Who is talking of PDM? They bulkanized the PDP for everything it got and left the smallest portion for Jona. LoL.
it doesn't matter which party flag Jonathan fly in 2015, most middle belt and other minority tribes including rivers state that accuse him of their crisis will cast their vote for him, if he contest.
PoliticsRe: Baraje, atiku, amaechi — Why We Are Taking Over PDP by Sirkris(m): 8:10am On Sep 02, 2013
ckkris: Clowns. When they ran away from the Convention. Na from outside the party they go from take over?

johnnobles: How has the mighty fallen, and in days to come, he that is down will fear no fall. It may be too late for jonathan to go back to the drawing board. Atiku successfully planned a coup that actualised and in the days to come we would see who wins. One thing for me is clear, the apc have this to, here advantage. The story has just begun.
there internal crisis will only pave way for APC to take over governance. but that's only when APC field a candidate other than Buhari
I've spent over a year in Benue state, between the Tiv land & Idoma land. From my observations, interactions with their indigenes all I can say is there is NO goverment in that state,Mr 'Sussana' spends his time & effort in politicking & disbursing allocation. No idea,no passion, no reasonable or major state project going on. Though it seems the citizens are used to such due to the fact that they have had series of bad leaders, which is not uncommon in most
nothern states.[/quote.

there is no were in the world where leaders ain't criticized, I have spent many years in makurdi and I can tell you beyond reasonable doubt that Gabriel suswam has tried alot in that state. you choose not to see the good side of there development.

Julieccentric: God bless you for this...I am appalled @ the level of medicrity displayed here, cos someone post some very photo-shopped pix we are clapping..

They lack the necessary equipements et al..Suswan's acheivemenr includes building boreholes..That state is so blessed with all kinda fruits yet no single reasonable factory even the cement factory is hugely owned by dangote.

Shame on una benue pple n pdp power people..I served in that particular place not too long so I knw a bit or two about them esp the wasteful Suswan!
HealthRe: Benue State University Teaching Hospital In Pictures. by Sirkris(m): 8:47am On Jul 31, 2013
lol. I can see why many of our Nigerian youths can't move beyond were they found themselves, you served in benue, did you visit the hospital? the government of that state irrespective of whose tenure has tried and we should applaud him, their is no university in Nigeria that started medicine and graduated medics six years after inception. please when you see a good foundation pray to God to consolidate on the growth. I wish benue people goodluck.
