An 8-year-old American girl, Chrissy Turner has gone into the history books as the youngest known person to be diagnosed with BREAST CANCER.
Chrissy was diagnosed of having a rare form of breast cancer last October when she noticed a painful lump on her right breast.

She was then taken to the hospital where a surgical procedure was carried out to remove her right breast.
She has since been discharged and is currently on remission. All she does now is a 3-monthly visit for check-up while she has resumed school and her usual routine.

Its worrisome when 8-year-old are diagnosed with breast cancer which is supposed to affect older women. Though Chrissy's father and mom had at different times been treated for cancer in the past.

Former minister of interior under president Goodluck Jonathan, Abba Moro has been arraigned in court and subsequently remanded in Kuje jail by the court.

Mr Moro is facing charges, along side three others, for the monumental fraud which trailed the Nigerian Immigration service recruitment exercise in 2014 under his watch.

The immediate past Interior Minister, who came to court with his entire family, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) on an 11-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, procurement fraud and money laundering.

Mr. Moro was arraigned before Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja, alongside three others for their roles in the botched March 15, 2014 immigration recruitment exercise that killed no fewer than 20 job seekers across the country.

His co-accused are: permanent secretary of the ministry at the time, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia; a deputy director in the ministry, F. O Alayebami; one Mahmood Ahmadu (at large), and the contracting firm given the recruitment job, Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd.

The EFCC accused the defendants of defrauding 676,675 Nigerian applicants of N676,675,000 (Six Hundred and Seventy Six Million, Six Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Naira). Each of the 676,675 applicants were charged N1,000 each for the participating in the recruitment exercise.

After the charges had been read, Justice Chikere ordered that the former minister should be remanded in Kuje prison, Abuja, while Mrs. Daniel-Nwobia was released on administrative bail.

The judge adjourned the case to March 2 for hearing of Mr. Abba Moro’s bail application.

This controversy was prompted by a photo Olajumoke, the breadseller who photobombed her way to fame and fortune.
Problem is, since the breadseller turned model and her husband began appearing in public together, the dude has been the one carrying their child all the time.

Since the rave of selfie taking began, it has spread like wild fire and with the introduction of the selfie stick, its become easier to capture that special moment even when there's no one around to take the shot.

Unfortunately some have had to go to the extreme, putting themselves in harm's way, in order to get a perfect shot. This has led to the selfie-linked death of 49 persons all over the world since 2014.

India is home to the highest number of selfie-related deaths. A record 19 deaths have been reported in India alone. This has led authorities in the India city of Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, to place a ban on the taking of selfies in certain areas considered as high risk zone.

Mumbai police placed a ban on taking of selfie only in risky areas, especially the coast line with particular emphasis on areas where there are no protective railings. Anyone caught violating the law will be slammed a fine of 1,200 rupees (about N4,000)

Know why? Several cases of death by drowning have been reported. Earlier this month, an 18-year-old college student on a class picnic lost his balance while taking a selfie atop a rock near a dam. The lad fell into the water and drowned, along with a classmate who jumped in to try and save him.

Last month, an 18-year-old woman fell and drowned in the sea while taking a photo of herself at a popular tourist spot in Mumbai.

In another case, an engineering student sustained fatal head injury when a rock he was standing cracked and sent him tumbling. He had been trying to take a selfie with friends. He died.

And in January 2014, three students aged 20 to 22 died when they stopped to take a photo with a speeding train approaching and were hit.

A court case in the US has revealed a very shocking fact about Johnson and Johnson baby powder which is a common household product especially for new born babies.

A US court has in fact ordered Johnson and Johnson to pay $72 million (about £50million) in damages after a woman's death from cancer was linked to its talcum (powder) products.

The woman, identified as Jacquelin Fox, died of Ovarian cancer which was linked to her use of the company's talc-based Baby Powder and Shower to Shower cream product for several decades - according to filings before the court.

The case was filed by Marvin Salter, a foster son of the deceased lady who said that his foster mother had used the brand for decades. He went further to liken it to tooth brushing, revealing that it became second to nature and a household name with his late mother.

Ms Fox died in October last year at age 62, from Ovarian cancer as stated earlier.

The copy of the Holy Bible was discovered to be untouched after the flames had been doused.


An extraordinary event played out over the weekend in the US when a copy of the Holy Bible was recovered unscathed from the burn't wreckage of a accidented car.

The driver of the SUV, who was also rescued unhurt, had lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road before hitting a stationary object. The vehicle immediately burst out in flame while passersbye and other motorist tried to rescue the driver who was still strapped onto the driver's seat.

The accident was captured in a video which had since been uploaded on Youtube and has garnered several views.

The driver of the vehicle was successfully rescued moments before the car exploded.

However, when detectives arrived and were inspecting the wreckaged of the SUV, a Bible was discovered to be the only property inside the vehicle that wasn't damaged. All other things in the vehicle was burnt completely.

Some might say it is a miracle while others would shrug it off as a mere coincidence. But there's no other way to describe the strange occurrence than it been .....MIRACULOUS.

I have had a strong affinity for the social media right from the very first day I was introduced to the internet way back. My love for social media span the days of Yahoo messenger, right down to Myspace, Hi5 and to the present day lot. I just can't phantom a reason for this strong bond between myself and the Social media. Even though I know I'm not alone in this category. Perhaps i was hoping to meet a rich, white or black American beauty(not-so-beautiful would even have been accepted) who would be my visa away from poverty or y visa to securing a visa to America. But alas, I gave up on that dream long ago and have moved on with my life.

I haven't lost a bit of interest in the social media though, especially Facebook, Twitter and Instagram among a host of others. As an entertainment blogger, something I do as a part-time hubby, I get lots of news from there which find their way into my blog.
However, that is not the direction I'm heading to with this write-up. This write-up was actually spurred by an Op-ed i came in contact with on the New York Times.

The article encapsulates what is in my mind concerning the pains and gains of the social media. I am deeply concerned as to the purposes which the social media is being used for by various interest groups. It has become a very vital and veritable tool for propaganda, a tool for radicalism, a fitting vessel to mobilize innocent chaps for violent purposes, and all what not.

That does not in anyway case a shadow over the fact that many great things have been accomplished through the Social media; musicains have been made, models have been born on social media. The case of the Nigerian bread-seller, Olajumoke readily comes to mind. Several terminally ill patients have had donors come to their aid via the power of the social media.
But we cannot ignore the damage this engaging platforms are causing in our society.

I just reeled over an headline of a young lady who was beaten to coma by a roommate she met through craiglist. Cynthia Osokogwu meet her untimely death through the bloody hands of guys she met on Facebook. I can go on and on. We read about atrocities committed day in, day out by friends, acquaintances, stalkers who connect with their victim on Social media.

Another worrisome dimension of the negative use which the social media is been put to, is that of propaganda.
The article on New York Times deals exclusively on this angle of the merits or de-merits of the Social media.

Over the last few years we’ve been treated to a number of “Facebook revolutions,” from the Arab Spring to Occupy Wall Street to the squares of Istanbul, Kiev and Hong Kong, all fueled by social media. But once the smoke cleared, most of these revolutions failed to build any sustainable new political order, in part because as so many voices got amplified, consensus-building became impossible.

Question: Does it turn out that social media is better at breaking things than at making things?

Recently, an important voice answered this question with a big “ yes.” That voice was Wael Ghonim, the Egyptian Google employee whose anonymous Facebook page helped to launch the Tahrir Square revolution in early 2011 that toppled President Hosni Mubarak — but then failed to give birth to a true democratic alternative.

In December, Ghonim, who has since moved to Silicon Valley, posted a TED talk about what went wrong. It is worth watching and begins like this: “I once said, ‘If you want to liberate a society, all you need is the Internet.’ I was wrong. I said those words back in 2011, when a Facebook page I anonymously created helped spark the Egyptian revolution. The Arab Spring revealed social media’s greatest potential, but it also exposed its greatest shortcomings. The same tool that united us to topple dictators eventually tore us apart.”

In the early 2000s, Arabs were flocking to the web, Ghonim explained: “Thirsty for knowledge, for opportunities, for connecting with the rest of the people around the globe, we escaped our frustrating political realities and lived a virtual, alternative life.”

And then in June 2010, he noted, the “Internet changed my life forever. While browsing Facebook, I saw a photo … of a tortured, dead body of a young Egyptian guy. His name was Khaled Said. Khaled was a 29-year-old Alexandrian who was killed by police. I saw myself in his picture. … I anonymously created a Facebook page and called it ‘We Are All Khaled Said.’ In just three days, the page had over 100,000 people, fellow Egyptians who shared the same concern.”

Soon Ghonim and his friends used Facebook to crowd-source ideas, and “the page became the most followed page in the Arab world. … Social media was crucial for this campaign. It helped a decentralized movement arise. It made people realize that they were not alone. And it made it impossible for the regime to stop it.”

Ghonim was eventually tracked down in Cairo by Egyptian security services, beaten and then held incommunicado for 11 days. But three days after he was freed, the millions of protesters his Facebook posts helped to galvanize brought down Mubarak’s regime.

Alas, the euphoria soon faded, said Ghonim, because “we failed to build consensus, and the political struggle led to intense polarization.” Social media, he noted, “only amplified” the polarization “by facilitating the spread of misinformation, rumors, echo chambers and hate speech. The environment was purely toxic. My online world became a battleground filled with trolls, lies, hate speech.”

Here is what he concluded about social media today: “First, we don’t know how to deal with rumors. Rumors that confirm people’s biases are now believed and spread among millions of people.” Second, “We tend to only communicate with people that we agree with, and thanks to social media, we can mute, un-follow and block everybody else. Third, online discussions quickly descend into angry mobs. … It’s as if we forget that the people behind screens are actually real people and not just avatars.

“And fourth, it became really hard to change our opinions. Because of the speed and brevity of social media, we are forced to jump to conclusions and write sharp opinions in 140 characters about complex world affairs. And once we do that, it lives forever on the Internet.”

An Ohio based wife, Kimberly Hammond has been charged to court for allegedly beating up her husband on Valentine's day after he failed to get her a valentine present.

The incident which happened on Sunday, involved Mr John Hammond,46, and his equally 46-year-old wife, Kimberly.

Mrs Hammond was said to have been home all day watching a TV program and guzzling up to eight bottles of beer. She became furious when her husband failed to get her a present for the occasion. An argument then ensued between the couples, which soon turned violent.

In the course of the melee, Mr Hammond sustained some scratch wound to his face and a sore rib. He also got a swollen head, after his wife hit him with a baseball bat, knocking him unconscious.

Even in his state of semi-consciousness, the wife continued kicking him on the floor, Mr Hammond alleged.

When interrogated, Mrs Hammond admitted to have been drinking and that she got furios when her husband got her nothing as Valentine's day gift.

A cute little baby girl who was born with three limbs has successfully undergone a surgical operation to remove the third limb which grew from her spinal cord.

The third limb was caused by a rare condition known as Polymelia which occur in one in a million birth. In her case, the third limb grew prominently attached to the spinal cord.

There are just few known cases of this rare condition around the world and most of the cases are surprisingly from Asia, notably India and Pakistan who are neighbours.

Nevertheless known cases cut across all parts of the world.

In 2014, the case of an Indian boy who was born with three arms was reported. In his case, his right arm was in the normal palce, but two arms developed on the left side. The extra limb was successfully removed.

Also in 2012, a girl from Pakistan was reported as having been born with a thirm arm due to the rare defect. The extra arm was also removed surgically with success at just 4 years of age.

In 2005, a baby girl named Destiny was born with a fully formed extra leg in Detroit as a result of a conjoined twin not fully developing in the womb.

In March 2006, a baby boy identified only as Jie-jie was born in Shanghai with a fully formed third arm.

In July 2007 a child was born with four legs at the Lebowakgomo hospital outside Polokwane in South Africa.

The most well known case of this rarity was Lakshmi Tatma, also from India, who was born with eight limbs. A parasitic twin who had stopped developing and died in the womb was attached to her body. Doctors were also able to remove the extra limbs in 2007.

A mysterious river has been discovered deep in the Amazon rain-forest of South America which is so hot that it boils.

The mysterious, four-mile long river, deep in the heart of the Amazon, is so hot that it boils and cooks any creature that falls into it.

The river has long been a legend in Peru, but when geoscientist Andrés Ruzo's heard about it, he thought such a phenomenon was impossible.

He believed that it would require a huge amount of geothermal heat to boil even a small river, and the Amazon basin is far from any active volcanoes.

But then, in 2011, Ruzo saw the legendary boiling river with his own eyes.

The river which is located in Mayantuyacu, for some reason has escaped scientific scrutiny and the reason for that is not far fetched.

Scientists, geologist, geophysicists and others never believed that such a river could exist because such can only happen when there is a erupting volcano or active one close by. But in the case of the hot Amazon river, there is no such volcano close by.

The water is so hot that it can be used to brew tea, no animal survives inside it. Any animal that mistakenly falls inside the river die instantly.

Talk about the wonders of God's creation. They don't need to boil water before making tea or taking their bath.

Kevin Carter, the white South African photojournalist who took this attached photo in famine-hit Sudan around 1993 committed suicide in 1994 after winning a Pulitzer prize for the touching pics. He said he felt bad that he couldn't help the child after taking the award winning shot. Of course he received backlash for not helping. Sad some still engage in that practice of snapping pics to post in blogs instead of helping even in accident scene with dead bodies littered all around. I was even scared of posting the first photo of Ms Anja giving Hope water because I don't engage in sensational reporting just for hits. But when I saw the uncommon transformation, I was moved with joy. Surprisingly I got to see the post first in a foreign website while our naija blogging giants slept away on the story.

The story has made front page on nairaland. Perhaps you must have seen this heart-rendering photo online of a white lady giving a little child who looked dehydrated and malnourished a drink of water.

It is sad that such kind of photos could only emanate from Africa and it usually takes the effort of the foreign press to bring the attention of the world to their plight.

Sadly, the child in this photo is not from Darfur or any other war torn African enclave but is from Nigeria. Somewhere in Akwa-Ibom state where the issue of witch-craft is rife.

Story has it that the boy, who has been named Hope was left for dead on the streets by his family, who thinks he is a witch.

Hope survivied on the streets for eight months, feeding on scraps thrown at him by passers by.

Fortunately, on January 31, Hope was rescued by a Danish humanitarian aid-worker, Miss Anja Ringgren Loven, who discovered him naked, emaciated, and wandering the streets with his body riddled with worms.

Miss Anja, who has a Nigerian partner with whom she has a son, took Hope to the hospital where he was given a thorough bath. Thereafter Hope was treated of the worms and given blood transfusion to replenish his obviously depleted red blood cells.

Already, Miss Anja who runs a children orphanage, has received donations to the tune of $1 million from donors from around the world after asking the community for fund to settle Hope's medical bills.

She's hoping to build a hospital for neglected children like Hope besides giving Hope the best of treatment.

A couple who were separated following the Second World War have been reunited.

Norwood Thomas, a 93-year-old veteran, flew from the United States to Australia to meet 88-year-old Joyce Morris.

When they first met Norwood was a 21-year-old paratrooper and Joyce was a 17-year-old girl living in London.

After the war, Norwood remained in the US while Joyce moved to Australia but apparently, their love never died.

A few months ago, Joyce tracked down Norwood, and they chatted on Skype.

Hundreds of people helped donate money for his trip to Australia.

The couple is planning a romantic Valentine's Day date.

A video footage has revealed the moment a 52-year old Ecuadorian who lived in Alicante, Spain plummeted to his death while attempting to access his apartment through the roof.

The man was alleged to have locked himself out, leaving his keys inside. He then attempted to break into the apartment by climbing onto the roof, then lowered himself with the aid of a roof through the window.

The unlucky man had enlisted the help of his neighbour who helped him onto the roof and assisted him in securing the rope firmly to the roof.

The video footage, filmed from an opposite apartment, shows the man lowering himself down from the roof to the top level of the four-storey buiding while clutching tight to the rope.

He seems in control and he balances on the ledge of a window before moving over to the balcony.The man then transfers his weight back to the rope in order to get to the lower floor.

However the rope twists leaving him swinging, with his back to the wall. Somehow he loses his grip and slides down the rope.

The footage then captures the horrifying sight of the man losing control altogether and plunging suddenly down to the road.

The video did not show the moment the man hit the ground.

He said: ' We see people putting on makeup, we see people doing different things as far as hygiene, as far as reading books, it’s almost to the fact there’s so much technology out there a lot of people are more paying attention to what they’re doing other than driving their cars.'
