The name, Naomi Nkechi Emmanuel, may not ring a bell. But the actress, popularly known as Nurse Titi in a television drama series, Clinic Matters, is an icon in the movie industry.

A graduate of Lagos State University, she is currently working on her latest production, entitled The Interview, due for release towards the end of this year. In this chat, the actress, who is already wrapping up her wedding plans, talks about her career, love life and how she met her fiancé. Enjoy it.

Can you briefly tell us about yourself? 

My name is Naomi Nkechi Emmanuel, but people call me Nurse Titi, because of my role in Clinic Matters. I am from Anambra State. I am a graduate of History & International Relations from Lagos State University. I am planning to go for my Masters degree either in Film Production or Law.

        

When did you develop the flair for acting?

It’s been a long time. I would say the talent has been growing, but it took me a while to discover it. I discovered the talent when I was in church and my mum actually supported me. I was 16 then and I went for several auditions. I later went to the National Arts Theatre to make enquiries and I was told to pay certain amount to register. I paid and the whole thing started from there.   

  

What was your first movie as an actress?

It’s ‘When You Are Mine’ and it was a blockbuster. In the movie, I played alongside numerous artistes and that was when I acted as a nurse for the first time. When the movie came out, people said I did well and that was where Mr. Paul Igwe, the producer of Clinic Matters saw me and gave me a chance.

    

Are you saying you started acting professionally with Clinic Matters?

Before Clinic Matters, I had done some drama series on NTA, but this brought me into limelight.

    

Is playing the role of a nurse the best you can do?

In fact, I am sick and tired of playing the role of a nurse. I have acted in several movies as a nurse and I keep telling the producers that I am not born a nurse, and that I can do other roles.

     

Have your fans ever mistaken you for a real nurse?

No, but people always advise me to take nursing as a profession. They would say ‘why don’t you take it as a profession?’ But I can’t because I don’t have the flair for it.

    

What project are you working on at the moment?

I have just produced a movie that I am trying to put up; it is called ‘The Interview’. It is my personal project.

    

What would you say is your greatest achievement in the movie industry?

I would not say I have gotten to where I want to be, but I thank God I am someone that can walk on the streets and be recognised.

Have you ever been embarrassed by a fan?

I get embarrassed almost everyday. Recently, I was somewhere and people were like ‘she is an actress’ and someone said ‘which actress?’ and that they don’t know me, so I felt bad.

     

Aside acting, what else do you do?

I do photography modeling. I am a model; I do a lot of adverts.

    

How do you relax?

I love to exercise. I love to swim. I love to hang out with my friends. I watch movies, listen to music, read gossips online and I love to drive as well.

   

Why are you still single?

I am not single anymore. My bride price has already been paid, and soon my church wedding would take place.

    

Can you describe your man?

He is everything I wanted in a man. He is everything I have always asked God for. He is a man I love so much.

    

Is he a Nigerian?

No, he is not a Nigerian. He is British.

Why a Briton and not a Nigerian?

Nigerian men came for me but they didn’t possess the qualities that I want in a man.

Was it love at first sight?

No, we met on location. The whole thing started like a small feeling, and it later blossomed.

     

What is your view on domestic violence?

It is 100 percent wrong and I advise people that they should not create a cause for domestic violence to take place.

   

In case you encounter domestic violence in your marriage, what will you do?

I like to give people opportunities. I won’t just rush out of my marriage, I would take a break and let him realise his mistake.

    

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I gave myself a target of two to three years, so five years is above my dreams.

  

If your husband asks you to drop acting, what would you do?

He can’t ask me to drop acting, because he is my number one fan. He is also in the industry; he’s a movie director.

   

What advice do you have for the up and coming actors that see you as their role model?

You have to be strong; you have to work hard because it’s not easy. You have to be focused and determined. Also, don’t lose your shape because I believe your body is your first market. Aside this, you have to be very prayerful.

The actress who openly mourned late Engineer Tagbo Umeike has finally said her goodbyes after her silence since the incidence happened.

In some new Instagram posts, the actress had shared some new photos on her page to show she has snapped out of her mourning although she was pictured wearing black in the photos.

She also also wrote a farewell message to Tagbo who is also known as T7 by close friends. The actress said: “The worst goodbyes are those when you don’t have a choice”.

Jim Iyke who has had a long week of public revelation of his relationship with some celebrities, in a new interview with Broadway TV, opened up on why his relationship with Rita Dominic didn’t lead to marriage.

He said;
Rita and I met when I was just beginning to embrace fame, the comforts that came with it.The laurels and the distraction, even the destruction. And Rita is not the kind of woman that hangs around a groth. We were very deep with each other. We still are great friends.As a matter of fact, it may surprise you that we haven’t spoken to each other in over two years. But when we meet, we are cordial, respectful.

Nigeria won six medals at the International Table Tennis Federation Junior and Cadet Open, which ended on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt.

Taiwo Mati won two gold and one bronze in the cadet singles, mini-cadet singles and team event while national junior champion, Tosin Oribamise, won one gold and one bronze in the junior women’s singles and team events. National junior men’s champion, Azeez Solanke, won bronze in the team event.

Oribamise told our correspondent online that the competition was part of her preparations for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

“The tournament was very tough but it has helped to keep my mind on the task at hand in Argentina. I wasn’t happy when I was the only one who qualified for the Youth Olympics in table tennis but I have since accepted the challenge to do well there next year,” she said.
“The Egyptians were tough as usual but I am happy that we came back with some medals and for me I have learnt a lot to last me till I begin preparations for the Youth Olympics. I hope I can get some more competitive matches like this to prepare better for the Games.” A

Nigerian senior national team coach, Gernot Rohr has identified the only thing that may stop the Super Eagles from doing well in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The coach warned against another pay strike at the World Cup if the country hoped to improve on their previous outings at the global tournament.

Recall that at the 2014 World Cup, the Super Eagles skipped a training to protest the non-payment of bonus for qualifying for the tournament.

Rohr said Nigeria can improve on their best World Cup performance of a Round-of-16 by preparing early and better too.

The coach called for early preparation as well as ensuring money issues are sorted out well in advance.

FIFA will be paying Nigeria a total of $12.5 million for qualifying for Russia 2018 with $2.5 million of this amount paid for the Eagles to prepare adequately for the football showpiece.

The team will earn more cash should they reach the knockout rounds of the tournament as they have done in 1994 and 2014.

Rohr told reporters that, “If we want to do something at the World Cup, we have to prepare well. We want everybody who wants to be part of the team to show the same solidarity we currently have in the team.

“More importantly, we don’t want the issue of money to be a problem.
“The issue of bonuses and allowances, which are the usual African problem we see during the World Cup, must be avoided.

“Such issues will be bad for our preparation. I have told my officials and the federation president that all (such issues) be cleared before the start of the competition.”

The Presidency on Friday said the reported discussion between President Muhammadu Buhari and the World Bank Group President, Jim Yong Kim, was deliberately twisted by those who it said specialise in such acts.

Media reports had it that Kim disclosed in Washington DC, United States of America, that Buhari had requested a concentration of the bank’s intervention efforts in the northern part of Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement said “ignorant and mischievous people” are making it seem that Buhari’s position was a calculated attempt to give the North an unfair advantage over other parts of Nigeria.

Adesina said the President, since his inauguration had been seeking international support for the rebuilding of the North East which was ravaged by years of insurgency.

He said what Buhari did in calling attention to the plight of the people of the region was what a leader should do.

The presidential spokesman said, “The truth of the matter is that President Buhari, right from his first week in office in June, 2015, had reached out to the G-7 in Germany that Nigeria needed help to rebuild the North-East, which had been terribly devastated by insurgency.

“He said the country would prefer help in terms of rebuilding of infrastructure, rather than cash donation, which may end up being misappropriated. In concert with Governors of the region, a comprehensive list of needed repairs was sent to the G-7 leaders.

“Also, during a trip to Washington in 2015, and many other engagements that followed, President Buhari sought the help of the World Bank in rebuilding the beleaguered North-East, which was then being wrestled from the stranglehold of a pernicious insurgency. “
