@nairaland1 you blocked me because you were scared of answering my question? Tells a lot about your personality and how corruption and double standards are inherent in people like you.
So not making profits from most of his customers gives a business the moral justification to steal and exploit those customers who are paying in full for their services. Nigeria is doomed with people like you, folks like you are enemies of progress to this country.
Nairaland GeneralRe: IBEDC :.is It Right For Community To Pay For Vandalised Equipments by Skydiv: 3:20pm On May 24
nairalanda1:
OK, in simpler language

You are losing money from 80% of your customers. That loss dwarfs your profits from 20% of your consumers, ain't no way you will meet the needs of all your consumers or give all your consumers full service.

Therein lies the problem
You did not answer my question. Does it mean the best way of solving your not making a profit issues is by exploiting those customers who pay for your services in full? Are you justifying the actions of an armed robber, who steals because he couldn't find a high-paying job, or the woman who steals fish from the market because she didn't have the money to buy fish?
Nairaland GeneralRe: IBEDC :.is It Right For Community To Pay For Vandalised Equipments by Skydiv: 3:06pm On May 24
nairalanda1:
Oh yes, and it happens because they form less than 20% of total consumers.

That means that the power sector is still not making enough money

Until everyone pays a cost reflective tarrif and there is no power theft by anyone, we will see improvement in a few years.

After all if you were selling bread and only 20% of your customers were paying you in full you won't make a profit

That's why the band and so forth thing made no sense.
So exploiting the 20% customers that are paying you in full, is a good business practice to you?
Nairaland GeneralRe: IBEDC :.is It Right For Community To Pay For Vandalised Equipments by Skydiv: 2:51pm On May 24
nairalanda1:
Effect of not paying a cost reflective tarrif.

All those power equipment cost money. When most of we Nigerians are not paying a cost reflective tarrif, it does not mean we won't pay for the equipment one way or the other...or putting it another way, pay the full cost of our electricity .

If everyone was paying N250 per kwh or more....by now we won't be doing the work discos are supposed to do...because they would be making a profit to fix everything. But because we refuse to do so, and the APC government also keeps prices too low for discos to make a profit, the above is the result.

Like when I was in primary school, my parents paid heavy duty fees to enable me attend a private prinary school...and the fees were really high. Yet in return the school was able to afford books, textbooks, pens, pencils, desk, chair, etc. The government primary school near where I lived, they were paying one fifth of what my parents paid for primary school...and they had to also buy books, buy textbooks, pens, pencils and so forth...even on occasion make desks.

You see, when you pay a cost reflective tarrif, the power company will be empowered by profits and investment to buy you transformer and wires. When you don't and underpay them (and many of the customers are even refusing to pay their bills, because free power)...they won';t make enough money, won't attract investment, and you would be buying them their wires and transformers.

It's that simple.

Y'all can abuse me now and call me tinubu suipporter for speaking the truth about how companies and capitalism works. Power has been privatised since 2013, government, including tinubu government is forcing them to charge cheap prices so that tinubu can get reelected, and you are getting the result.

Oh and you do not pay banks for damaged ATM OR BUILDING...because BANKS IN NIGERIA, even when they were run by government did not have the prices and costs of their services set for them by government. Government does not even tell them that they should give loans and allow the customers to not pay back for the next 20 years. The difference between banks and powers is that the government does not determine how much the banks services cost.
Are you aware that there are people who pay cost reflective tariffs, and still bear the cost of repairs of these transformers, and even pay for their acquisition?

Nairaland GeneralUnwholesome Practice Of BEDC In Delta State. by Skydiv(op): 4:04pm On May 14
I've been noticing the recurrent unwholesome practice of the Benin Electric Distribution Company (BEDC) in Delta State for some time now.

There is a feeder in Sapele Delta State, as such people expected a reliable power supply for band A users. But the electricity has suddenly become a luxury not because of its unit cost of #209.50, but because the distribution company has refused to perform its responsibility of electricity distribution.

To have access to the band A line, you need to buy your transformer, 11kVA lines, electric poles, meters, and pay the BEDC staffs that will install these things. In my area, a businessman did all these, and he is now charging each compound a minimum of #1M, or #350k per flat, in order to be connected to the power supply.

Even after payment you will still need to buy your wires, and electric meter, and you are not permitted to share it with your neighbours. I"m the only person using it in our compound, and I'm not allowed to share it with my neighbours.

Even with all these, we still pay light bills to BEDC without any form of compensation. Last week there was an explosion in the transformer and we were responsible for the repair and payments of the BEDC staffs that did the repairs. At the end of every month they come to our transformer take the current meter reading, and drop off the total bill there. If we don't pay our bills they go straight to the transformer and switch it off.

We are all using prepaid meters, so we go to each user's residence to take their meter's reading. And if anybody fails to pay his bill, we share that person's bill among ourselves and pay it to BEDC, then disconnect that person. When he/she is ready to pay his bill, he will bear the cost of disconnection and reconnection which is a fixed price of 20k.

We are now the ones doing BEDC's job, and still paying them. We pay for electricity distribution materials, pay for maintenance and workmen, perform their duties of revenue collection, disconnect and reconnect defaulters without any form of compensation. Why are things always different in Nigeria, why is this country so corrupt, is being a Nigerian living in Nigeria a curse?

How did you get to know such a wicked man? Do you have anything in common with him? You mean to say you never knew he was this foolish and narcissistic, and a potential murderer before?

You only know it now, he never showed you any signs at all?
We've been friends for a long time. He was even the engineer who handled my building project, back then. I wasn't always in town due to the nature of my job, and as such we were not that close physically. We both lost contact for almost a decade, but when we renewed our friendship people were always complaining to me that my G was too violent and aggressive. He wasn't like this when I knew him.

The lady called me today, thanking me for the kindness I showed towards the kids that day. She was pleading with me to forgive her heartless attitude. According to her, arrangements are being made by her family to conduct a DNA test for both kids. That my friend will pay half, her family will pay the other half, if the kids are his, he will refund the family's payment and if they are not his, the family will refund his half. But the beast doesn't, have a dime, and I told her boldly that I will no longer involve myself in their marital disputes. She said her family has tried to reach out to the beast of a friend but he is not picking up his calls, and he is nowhere to be found. He can go to hell for all I care, I'm cutting him off for good.

OP, you did well. I think you should rethink your friendship with him. If he can do this to children, worst case his own blood, you should be able to guess what he can do to you if you have issues with him.
The aggression is visibly present in the son already, from my observation that very day, the son was trying to cover his mum's breast with her clothes so she wouldn't be able to breastfeed his baby sister the mum pushed him away, could you believe the 3 year old boy put his baby sister's hands in his mouth and bit her? At a slight provocation, he starts scattering and throwing things away.

I pity the kids sha.
The woman is violent and aggressive too, just that she listens to people when she is angry, unlike the man who easily transfers aggression to those trying to make peace. The man once slapped the woman in a public place the woman retaliated by slapping the man too, and even wanted to stab the man with a broken bottle. Same woman chased the man with a knife guy man run enter room lock door against body lol!!!

It's like you read my mind. I'm cutting him off, he is too harsh and extremely violent, I've complained to him times without numbers. This is somebody his community and family members were making a jest of that he cannot marry, keep a relationship, or produce kids due to his violent nature. The day his first son was delivered he felt like going to NTA to make a public announcement that he finally has a child. But here you are saying you'll bury same kids
FamilyDid I Overstep My Boundaries by Skydiv(op): 9:40am On May 12
A friend of mine and his wife have been having a series of misunderstandings for some time now. He has asked his wife to leave the house because he is no longer interested in their relationship. The wife, a nursing mother, said she needed time to care for her newborn baby.

They had a serious argument, the lady packed her belongings and left the 2 kids behind a 3 years old boy, and a 3 months baby girl. My friend was shouting furiously that he would bury the kids, and even pointed at a spot to bury them if they didn't make it to the following day, that the woman can not blackmail him with the kids.

Both kids were crying seriously. I went inside the house and carried both kids, my friend started yelling at me that I should drop the kids, or else, he would do something stupid. Instantly, I became very angry and dared him that you cannot do anything, you are a heartless beast who doesn't deserve a child.

He went in and pushed me and the kids outside, then locked the doors and went away, both kids were still crying on my arms. I begged their neighbour to help me carry the eldest child; luckily, the 3 month old baby fell asleep on my arms. They live in a very remote area, so for me to get access to a cab or bike will take over 30 minutes of walking having no other option we started the long walk. After around 10 minutes of walking, it started raining, so I covered the newborn baby with my shirt. We saw the mother on our way, and walked past her she didn't even care.

While under the rain, the baby started crying, the mother couldn't withstand the sight of seeing her kids and me in the rain crying, so she ran to us and started crying and begging me to hand her the newborn baby, which I did, and she started breastfeeding the baby who stopped crying and fell asleep. Luckily we saw a keke that carried us and took the girl to her family home.

Reflecting back, something was telling me that I overstepped my boundaries, that I shouldn't have cared about the kids if their parents didn't. That I should have just walked away quietly. So I humbly ask, did I overstep my boundaries?

I feel you.
Starlink has been expanding their subscription packages. Some countries now have 100Mbps, 200Mbps and Max plans. In fact, starlink leases their hardwares to customers in some countries.
I believe very soon we're going to get something similar in Nigeria.
Imagine 100Mbps plan @ 20k/25k would be a hit for us.

Plus their hardware fee is expensive for most users. Even the Mini at 350k is still expensive. The high hardware and subscription fees should be mostly attributed to the Nigeria's failing economy.
Please make me understand. On inputting my location in Delta state. I got the response of "Due to high demand in your area, only business plans are available in your area.

On the checkout order page, the price display were:

Residential: #57000/month
Standard kit: #590000
Shipping & handling: #36300,
pre-order: #32000
Deposit due today: #29767.44

Does it means even the #57k residential plan is not currently available in my location, as such paying the total due today only adds me to a wait list, with no known date? So if i should pay that money now i will have to wait till only God knows when.

So if i don't want to wait, the only option left is to opt for the business plan, which according to what is being displayed, cost around #226,000/month for 2TB.

If Airtel network good for your side, their ODU package still dey manageable. Dem dey get downtime sha.
Airtel is the worst network among all 3 (MTN, Glo, Airtel) in my area. You can't even load Nairaland's home page with it, Glo takes minutes to load, MTN is hope and pray.

With ODU NL it is taking seconds (not split seconds though) to load. How I wish Glo had something similar to ODU, I would have opted for it.

Buying Starlink is not my major issue for now, the subscription cost is. I intend to secure at least a year's subscription cost somewhere safe. Already have 6 months saved, 6 more to go.

I totally get you bro. Starlink wouldn't have been an option if our local ISPs are good.
If you're considering getting starlink, you don't have to get the Gen 3 kit. For most people, the Starlink Mini is more than good enough (and considerably cheaper too).

Most starlink owners I know "carpool". If you have a neighbours you trust, you can easily share the subscription bill.

If your work depends on the internet, starlink would definitely be a necessity as it's fast and consistent.
Those guys in my compound are acting very weird. I remember when were asked to pay a total of #1m so that we can be added to band A users last year, a private investor bought poles, transformers and cables to connect our street to band A, so if you want to use the light you have to pay him and buy your own meter. We are 8 tenants in total, but each tenant was giving one form of excuse or the other, some were even saying it should be the responsibility of the landlord who wasn't living in the compound with us. I spent around 400k for everything to connect my flat, but today they are all gathered in my frontage like where APC is sharing election rice. They are all charging one device or the other as i'm writing this, with extension sockets littered everywhere since electricity on band E is 0.

The internet issue is also affecting them, but they prefer flocking around around a new hotel whose management installed starlink and did not password it. They gather around there like ants around sugar looking for a free network to do their Yahoo work.

Una own better with Starlink, currently stuck with the garbage MTN, GLO, Airtel craps. As it stands i can't even get upto 1mbps on any if the networks, i get around 8-9 Mbps at midnight 12 - 3Am. Given my current financial status i cant afford the #594k standard kit, even if i scrape myself to purchase it i can't afford the subscription.

When problem go finish? first it was flooded area solved, then insecurity area solved, then power solved, and now internet connection.

Wahala no dey finish. Spent heavily in relocating to my current location because the area is on band A. Based on my findings before moving in, they are guaranteed of at least 20 hours electricity daily, except during grid collapses. Got internet speeds of around 15 Mbps on Airtel and MTN on speed test.

Already 2 months in Airtel, Glo, and MTN have suddenly stopped working. First it was MTN, then Airtel, and now Glo. There are network masts in the area, calls and sms are fine but 0 internet. Can't even load the Nairaland home page.

I'm considering ordering Starlink, but when using my current location, the hardware kit automatically chosen is the standard kit with an instalmenetal payment plan. But if I input a location like Yenagoa, I'm given an option of mini or standard kit, total cost for the mini and activation which was waived was just #318k. I guess the reason for the automatic standard kit is that my current area is at capacity.

So I want to ask if I use Yenagoa as the location and when the order arrives, I install it at my location in Delta state, will there be limitations or issues later on? If I should opt for the standard kit, is there a grace period for default payments? The hardware kit and subscription payment are around #89k monthly. (32k + 57k). From solved wahala to internet wahala when problems finish?
