With less than a week left for the incumbent Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed to retire, the time to appoint a successor is fast running out for President Muhammadu Buhari but he has remained silent and failed to send Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen's (recommended by the NJC) name to the Senate. Justice Mohammed will retire on November 10 when he will turn 70, the mandatory retirement age for justices of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen IS THE FIRST NOMINEE FROM THE SOUTH IN 30 YEARS. Section 231(1) explicitly provides: “The appointment of a person to the office of Chief Justice of Nigeria shall be made by the President on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC), subject to confirmation of such appointment by the Senate.” At its emergency meeting held on October 11, 2016, the NJC had recommended Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen for consideration as CJN. Nigerians Not Patient With Buhari’s Govt, Change Takes Times — Africa’s Richest Woman, Folorunsho Alakija Africa’s richest woman and Chief Executive of Rose of Sharon Foundation, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija has described the current economic recession as the price that Nigerians need to pay to get the desired change. She said it takes time for change to take place adding that Nigerians are not exercising enough patience with the present administration and are expecting it to perform magic. Mrs Alakija made the statement on Thursday at the 2016 Excellence in Leadership Conference organised by Daystar Christian Centre, according to New Telegraph report. Alakija, who was a guest speaker at the event, also advised Nigerians on the need to plan for the future of their children because a nation that fails to plan, plans to fail. She said apart from Nigerians looking unto God for help, they should also go back to the basics because the nation has done things outside the way of God and everyone is paying the price. When asked her view on the possibility if Nigeria having a female president, Alakija said Nigerians should wait for the outcome of the American polls and then take a cue from there but added that there is nothing wrong in having a female president saying after all God did not condemn it in the Bible saying it is about being patient and hardworking. Her Words: “It takes time for change to take place. Nigerians are not exercising enough patience with the present administration and are expecting it to perform magic. “Everyone has to pay the price because it is a learning process of the ills that have taken place in the country, we have been too docile as a people, we allow people to get away with a lot of evils that they are doing, they should pay the price for what they have done, everyone is bearing the brunt now, we need to learn from our past mistakes. Some of the things we are doing wrong are not cutting our coat according to our sizes.” “Whatever passion God has given to a woman should not just end in the kitchen or the ‘other room’. Nigerians should change their mindset on the role of women and until then will the country see a female president. http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/06/nigerians-not-patient-buharis-govt-folorunsho-alakija/

Buhari, Jonathan And A Redefinition of Change, By Reno Omokri The injustices in today’s Nigeria are just too glaring. For instance, Reuben Abati ALLEGEDLY got ₦50 million from Dasuki and goes to jail. Rotimi Amaechi ADMITTEDLY spends $500k (₦235 million at today’s rate) on a one day dinner for Soyinka and becomes a minister! Yet we say we are fighting corruption. http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/05/buhari-jonathan-and-a-redefinition-of-change-by-reno-omokri/

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned against patronizing what it called ‘wonder banks’, stating that their activities were not regulated by it. The Head, Consumer Protection Department, CBN, Hajiya Kadija Kassim, stated this on Monday. The apex bank’s warning is coming at a time when the huge unemployment situation in the country is making a lot of people to take interest in an online investment scheme tagged: ‘MMM Federal Republic of Nigeria (nigeria.)’. The platform has embarked on an aggressive online media campaign to lure the investing public to participate in what it called “mutual aid financial network,” with a monthly investment return of 30 per cent.
