Governor-elect of Ondo State, Mr. Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, yesterday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja, where he threw light on why he did not recognise former Lagos State Governor and National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu in his victory speech. Akeredolu declared that he had no strained relationship with the party’s national leader as he would continue to operate with him at the level of one of the party’s leaders, according to New Telegraph report. Tinubu had attempted to replace Akeredolu with his preferred candidate before the governorship election in the state, a development that widened the rift within the party and allegedly pitched Tinubu against the Presidency. I know there are many who do not want to discuss replacing Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s President because of several reasons which may either be emotional or pragmatic. They see President Buhari as the one who can effectively move Nigeria away from the decadence of the past — I supported his candidacy with the idea of him being a buffer between the past up to 2015 and the future in 2019. Many also believe it is premature to consider a replacement for him which is in my opinion being very naive as once this administration hits the two-year mark and that is about six months away, the race is on to see who wants to be president in 2019 and we have already seen some early contenders throw their hats in the ring by testing the waters. Then there are those who absolutely believe PMB needs two terms to solidify his reforms if we can call the agenda he got elected on as that. Nope! All he needs is a successor who will continue from where he left off and take it to the stratosphere! Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government desire was to tax Nigerians to death, saying; “Nigerians must resist any attempt to impose new tax on them.” The governor described the federal government’s plan to increase the cost of data as wicked, adding that “Most Nigerians are still alive today because they are kept busy by their access to social media. They relieve themselves of the burden of hunger and despair, placed on them by the federal government’s lack of policy direction by reading news and jokes, chatting with friends, watch comedy movies, etc. Denying them of this opportunity through increment in the cost of internet subscription will mean that the federal government deliberately wants many Nigerians, especially the youths to die of depression.” http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/30/buharis-govt-plan-tax-bleed-nigerians-death-fayose/

Some men of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday morning went hay wire in Ondo town, Ondo State, protesting non-payment of their last Saturday governorship election allowance, Punch is reporting. The policemen trooped out to Fagun street in Ondo town chanting various war songs to kick against the way they were treated after the governorship election. The development caused traffic logjam in the area. All efforts to speak with the protesters were not successful as they were beating journalists who were trying to speak with them and residents who wanted to take photographs of the protest. http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/28/breaking-ondo-poll-nigerian-policemen-go-rampage-ondo-town/

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has released a statement threatening that ‘the dogs and baboons of war’ would be unleashed on the country if today’s governorship election in Ondo state is rigged. Fani-Kayode in a terse statement he released and sent to SKYTREND NEWS said, “INEC should not allow itself to be used by a rapacious and desperate Federal Government to win the state “at all costs”. He further said, “They must not do anything that will provoke the wrath of the people of Ondo and they must ensure that the election is free and fair. That is the only way to guarantee and ensure peace. Anything short of that will result in the murder of sleep, the invocation of the clouds of uncertainty and the release of the dogs of war.” SOURCE: http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/26/the-dogs-and-baboons-will-be-soaked-in-blood-if-ondo/

The honeymoon between President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo seems to have ended. For the one and a half year that Mr. Buhari has been in power, Mr. Obasanjo remained one of his staunchest backers, visiting him repeatedly and publicly defending most of his actions. But speaking in Lagos Wednesday, according to online blog, Premium Times reports, Obasanjo served signal that the era of being soft on the administration of Mr. Buhari leads is over. Delivering the keynote address at the First Akintola Williams Annual Lecture, Mr. Obasanjo lashed at the Buhari administration for repeatedly lumping the country’s three previous administrations (including the one he, Obasanjo led) together and then accusing them of misgovernance. He also advised Mr. Buhari to stop dwelling on the past, saying since he was elected to change the country, he should concentrate on clearing the mess he inherited. Nigeria’s recession deepened in the third quarter and oil production fell, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday, as a dollar shortage kept Africa’s biggest economy in a stranglehold. Gross domestic product contracted by 2.24 percent year-on-year, the NBS said. That was even worse than the 2.06 decline in the second quarter, when Nigeria fell into recession for the first time in 25 years. The data came on the eve of an interest rate decision, with analysts expecting the central bank to hold benchmark rates at 14 percent. Inflation hit 18.3 percent in October, the highest in more than 11 years. READ MORE: http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/21/nigerias-recession-worsens-quarter-3-oil-output-plunges/

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, may seek reelection in Nigeria’s 2019 presidential election, the publisher of Ovation Magazine, Mr. Dele Momodu, has said. Jonathan, who ruled Africa’s most populous nation from 2011 to 2015, lost his bid for reelection in last year’s presidential polls to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress. Since leaving office Jonathan’s profile internationally has risen, and Mr. Momodu says the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain may stage a comeback bid in 2019. In an article titled, “The second coming of Goodluck Jonathan”, Mr. Momodu explained that the victory of US President-elect Donald trump “should bring us back to our senses”. http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/21/dele-momodu-predicts-jonathan-may-contest-2019-poll-blames-buhari/

A presidency source has said that the angst of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the party’s primary election in Ondo State, which threw up Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) was ‘self-inflicted.’ According to the source who asks not to be named because he was not qualified to speak to the press confirmed that Tinubu had no reason to hold a grudge against the APC or President Buhari over the primary. “This is because”, the source added, “the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, at the outset, gave Tinubu his due as the national leader of the APC and its leader in the South-west geopolitical zone by consulting with him and sharing with him the delegates’ list.” SOURCE: http://skytrendnews.com/2016/11/21/buhari-apc-refused-accede-tinubus-demands-ondo-primaries/

As the December 7 presidential election in Ghana draws near, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has counselled the people of Ghana to be mindful of making the same mistake made by Nigerians in the 2015 presidential election by voting for change, which has brought hunger, sufferings and economic recession to the country, such that even the entire West African sub-region is being affected. He said “by buying into the All Progressives Congress (APC) message of change, Nigerians are now facing a kind of hunger and suffering never experienced in the country in the last 30 years and Ghanaians must not fall into that kind of trap.” Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday that Governor Fayose made this call while playing host to some men of God from Ghana on Saturday. The governor said; “Ghanaians should not succumb to the deceit of the opposition party that are calling for a change of government. Rather, they should return the incumbent President, John Mahama, who has no doubt done creditably well to deserve a re-election. “Ghanaians should know that the change in Nigeria brought hunger, suffering, disregard for the rule of law as well as arrest and detention of Nigerians without trial and be mindful of those preaching change to them.
