PoliticsBuhari Is APC National Leader, Not Tinubu - Akeredolu by SKYTREND(op): 7:27am On Dec 01, 2016
Governor-elect of Ondo State, Mr. Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, yesterday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja, where he threw light on why he did not recognise former Lagos State Governor and National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu in his victory speech.

Akeredolu declared that he had no strained relationship with the party’s national leader as he would continue to operate with him at the level of one of the party’s leaders, according to New Telegraph report.

Tinubu had attempted to replace Akeredolu with his preferred candidate before the governorship election in the state, a development that widened the rift within the party and allegedly pitched Tinubu against the Presidency.

PoliticsA Successor Or Alternative To Muhammadu Buhari In 2019, By Olulana Alofe by SKYTREND(op): 6:27pm On Nov 30, 2016
I know there are many who do not want to discuss replacing Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s President because of several reasons which may either be emotional or pragmatic. They see President Buhari as the one who can effectively move Nigeria away from the decadence of the past — I supported his candidacy with the idea of him being a buffer between the past up to 2015 and the future in 2019.

Many also believe it is premature to consider a replacement for him which is in my opinion being very naive as once this administration hits the two-year mark and that is about six months away, the race is on to see who wants to be president in 2019 and we have already seen some early contenders throw their hats in the ring by testing the waters. Then there are those who absolutely believe PMB needs two terms to solidify his reforms if we can call the agenda he got elected on as that. Nope! All he needs is a successor who will continue from where he left off and take it to the stratosphere!

PoliticsBuhari’s Govt Plan Is To Tax And Bleed Nigerians To Death — Fayose by SKYTREND(op): 6:03pm On Nov 30, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government desire was to tax Nigerians to death, saying; “Nigerians must resist any attempt to impose new tax on them.”

The governor described the federal government’s plan to increase the cost of data as wicked, adding that “Most Nigerians are still alive today because they are kept busy by their access to social media. They relieve themselves of the burden of hunger and despair, placed on them by the federal government’s lack of policy direction by reading news and jokes, chatting with friends, watch comedy movies, etc. Denying them of this opportunity through increment in the cost of internet subscription will mean that the federal government deliberately wants many Nigerians, especially the youths to die of depression.”

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has released a statement threatening that ‘the dogs and baboons of war’ would be unleashed on the country if today’s governorship election in Ondo state is rigged.

Fani-Kayode in a terse statement he released and sent to SKYTREND NEWS said, “INEC should not allow itself to be used by a rapacious and desperate Federal Government to win the state “at all costs”.

He further said, “They must not do anything that will provoke the wrath of the people of Ondo and they must ensure that the election is free and fair. The honeymoon between President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo seems to have ended.

For the one and a half year that Mr. Buhari has been in power, Mr. Obasanjo remained one of his staunchest backers, visiting him repeatedly and publicly defending most of his actions.

But speaking in Lagos Wednesday, according to online blog, Premium Times reports, Obasanjo served signal that the era of being soft on the administration of Mr. Buhari leads is over.

Delivering the keynote address at the First Akintola Williams Annual Lecture, Mr. Obasanjo lashed at the Buhari administration for repeatedly lumping the country’s three previous administrations (including the one he, Obasanjo led) together and then accusing them of misgovernance.

He also advised Mr. Buhari to stop dwelling on the past, saying since he was elected to change the country, he should concentrate on clearing the mess he inherited.

PoliticsBuhari’s Govt Is Shameless For Talking About 2019 — Junaid Mohammed by SKYTREND(op): 10:09pm On Nov 22, 2016
Second Republic lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has described the government of President Muhammadu Buhari as shameless for saying Nigerians will rally behind the President in 2019.

Recall that the Presidency, Monday, dismissed suggestions that the masses will desert President Buhari in 2019, saying it’s unfounded and utterly ridiculous.

Presidential spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, who was reacting to allegations by a former Congress for Progressive Change, CPC member, Alhaji Buba Galadima that President Buhari would be abandoned by the people in 2019, asserted that “ordinary Nigerians are the backbone of his (Buhari’s) mandate and the only reason he ran for the office is to protect them against the rapacious merchants of corruption, who have held Nigeria back for decades.”

back for decades.”

However, reacting, Mohammed, said: “It is very unfortunate and shameless that a government that is yet to do anything is already talking of 2019.

“It is very unfortunate that a party like APC that is fast becoming moribund is already talking of 2019 when they have nothing to show for the four years Nigerians gave them. This development shows they are power-hungry, hypocritical and corruption-ridden.

“This entire 2019 discussion is ridiculous. I believe a government that has performed will rely on its performance before being considered for another four years in office.

“We are not even in the middle of the four-year term given to them and they are already talking of 2019. This is an unfortunate development and it shows the ineptitude of the government.

“For a man that has led us into the worst recession ever and has got nothing to show Nigerians since he assumed office to be talking of 2019, shows how shameless the government can be.”

PoliticsSouth West Governors Unite, Say, External Influence Wont Divide Us (PIC) by SKYTREND(op): 5:35am On Nov 22, 2016
State governors in-the South-western geo-political zone in Nigeria have resolved to forge a common front at regional integration by jointly staving off external influences capable of stifling the region’s economic and social interests.

Irrespective of their political affiliations, the governors said they have decided to be their brother’s keeper by promoting common programmes and projects capable of enhancing the human capital development of the region, according to Thisday reports.

This was one of the highlights of the meeting of the governors’ economic forum, hosted yesterday by the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, at the Executive Council Chambers, in Ibadan.

The governors mulled the need to introduce uniform tariffs on commodities, while agreeing on the need to seek areas of cooperation in agriculture, transportation, rail system, sports and other areas of common interest.

Other governors at the meeting were Mr. Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State; Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State; Senator Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State and Mr. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, while Secretary to Ondo State Government, Mr. Rotimi Adelola, represented Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

In his welcome address, Ajimobi said the attendance of the governors signposted the high importance they paid to the common challenges besetting the zone, part of which he said was the difficulties in the prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions.

Ajimobi said: “Your presence at this meeting is a clear testimony of the importance you all have attached to the common challenges confronting us as a people. Today, our country is buffeted by economic and political challenges.
“Several states are struggling to pay basic salaries with arrears running into several months; manufacturers struggling to access foreign exchange for raw material and companies are shutting down leading to mass redundancy of our people.

“Unfortunately most of these people are resident in the South-west region, which is the industrial base of the country. We need to quickly explore escape routes from poverty through empowerment and equipping of our youths with requisite skills.

“We must also seek common path of boosting agriculture as well as dealing with security challenges that have pervaded the country. We must seek a way out of the biting hardship in the land.”

The governor expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting, which he said was an economic forum, would lead to steps that would impact positively on the social and economic development of the people.

A communiqué read at the end of the meeting by Fayose said the forum reiterated the need to use regional integration to create economic relief for the people of the South-west in the face of the pervading economic recession.
Fayose stressed that the conversation dwelt on pragmatic steps necessary to be taken to enhance the development of the region and to proffer the surest way to put food on the table of the common people.

Regardless of their political differences, he said the governors were more concerned about their relations by the force of history and geographical location, the unity of which, he said, the regions forebears fought for and defended.

Fayose said: “All states, including Ekiti, have subscribed to and agreed that regional integration is the best way forward. We must do everything humanly possible not to go back on our resolves. It is forward for the people and for the Yoruba race.

“We agreed that the next meeting, which holds in the next two months, would be held in Ekiti State.”

He said the meeting was unanimous in its resolve to strengthen the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission) and the Odua conglomerate to foster regional integration and development.

Fayose said the managers of both pan-Yoruba organisations have been admonished to remain apolitical and to play a neutral role in their relationship with the owner states.

Earlier, the governor had told the forum to examine issues of common concern and learn from models that had worked for one state, with a view to replicating them for the common good of the people.

For instance, Fayose disclosed that the grazing regulation Law just passed in Ekiti had restored sanity to the land, adding that others could take a queue from the Law in order to protect farmers from avoidable losses occasioned by destruction of farm lands by straying cattle.

Aregbesola pleaded with his colleagues to take advantage of the remaining period of their tenure by ensuring that they redoubled their efforts to ensure the survival and prosperity of the people of the region.

Amosun also restated the need for the governors to shed their political differences by walking in the footsteps of the region’s nationalists and torchbearers, stressing that the unity of the region would be its strength.
He noted that the political differences of the governors of the region should not be a hindrance to exploring the economic possibilities in each state using comparative advantages as measuring index.

Ambode reminded his colleagues that the touted prosperity of Lagos State could only be sustained by the prosperity of its neighbour states.

He said he was committed to the improvement in the revenue base of the South-west such that a rail system would make it possible for people to work in Lagos State and live in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

PoliticsRecession Worsens In Quarter 3, Oil Output Falls - NBS by SKYTREND(op): 8:14pm On Nov 21, 2016
Nigeria’s recession deepened in the third quarter and oil production fell, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday, as a dollar shortage kept Africa’s biggest economy in a stranglehold.

Gross domestic product contracted by 2.24 percent year-on-year, the NBS said. That was even worse than the 2.06 decline in the second quarter, when Nigeria fell into recession for the first time in 25 years.

The data came on the eve of an interest rate decision, with analysts expecting the central bank to hold benchmark rates at 14 percent. Inflation hit 18.3 percent in October, the highest in more than 11 years.

Jonathan, who ruled Africa’s most populous nation from 2011 to 2015, lost his bid for reelection in last year’s presidential polls to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress.

Since leaving office Jonathan’s profile internationally has risen, and Mr. Momodu says the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain may stage a comeback bid in 2019.

In an article titled, “The second coming of Goodluck Jonathan”, Mr. Momodu explained that the victory of US President-elect Donald trump “should bring us back to our senses”.

PoliticsWhy Buhari, APC Refused To Accede To Tinubu’s Demands On Ondo Primaries by SKYTREND(op): 10:24am On Nov 21, 2016
A presidency source has said that the angst of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the party’s primary election in Ondo State, which threw up Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) was ‘self-inflicted.’

According to the source who asks not to be named because he was not qualified to speak to the press confirmed that Tinubu had no reason to hold a grudge against the APC or President Buhari over the primary.

“This is because”, the source added, “the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, at the outset, gave Tinubu his due as the national leader of the APC and its leader in the South-west geopolitical zone by consulting with him and sharing with him the delegates’ list.”

PoliticsDon’t Fall Into Pit Nigerians Fell Into, Reject Change - Fayose Warns Ghanaians by SKYTREND(op): 10:41pm On Nov 20, 2016
As the December 7 presidential election in Ghana draws near, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has counselled the people of Ghana to be mindful of making the same mistake made by Nigerians in the 2015 presidential election by voting for change, which has brought hunger, sufferings and economic recession to the country, such that even the entire West African sub-region is being affected.

He said “by buying into the All Progressives Congress (APC) message of change, Nigerians are now facing a kind of hunger and suffering never experienced in the country in the last 30 years and Ghanaians must not fall into that kind of trap.”

Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday that Governor Fayose made this call while playing host to some men of God from Ghana on Saturday.

The governor said; “Ghanaians should not succumb to the deceit of the opposition party that are calling for a change of government. Rather, they should return the incumbent President, John Mahama, who has no doubt done creditably well to deserve a re-election.

“Ghanaians should know that the change in Nigeria brought hunger, suffering, disregard for the rule of law as well as arrest and detention of Nigerians without trial and be mindful of those preaching change to them.
