FoodRe: Covid 19:Foods That Can Boost Your Immune System by SmartBam(op): 5:36pm On Nov 04, 2020
Earlier on I talked about foods that boost immunity. I feel it's necessary to update this thread. I realized that there are so many unhealthy food practices that fruit vendors subject customers to. These unsafe practices such as artificial ripening of fruits, unapproved preservation methodology, and many other unhealthy practices can cause infection and reduce the body’s immune defenses. I don’t want to talk about those Aboki oranges in the wheelbarrow…

But you don’t want this

I just discovered an easy way out of getting the recommended daily dose of Vitamin-C needed by the body. After running a body check, the doctor said, you lack vitamin-C! Me that I have been patronizing Abokis’ fruits and eating vegetables. Where did all the vitamin C go.

Then I came across this Vitamin-C tablet, Minavit, a very good immune support. one tablet is recommended per day and each tablet is (200mg). I chewed so much during the Covid period and my body had this special feeling especially this particular one anytime I lick it. It's ordered. I also tried some Vitamin-c tablets available in the Nigerian market. Each tablet is (100mg). There is the colored and white one. I love my vitamin-C colored because it's sweet. I can attest to the fact that Vitamin–C tablet is a rich nutritional supplement because it has worked for me.

Next time before you near that fruit wheelbarrow because your body lacks the daily recommended vitamin-c dose for the body, remember you have better options.

Foreign AffairsThe Electromagnetic Attack Blame-Venezuela by SmartBam(op): 12:03am On May 10, 2020
Today marks a week, Venezuela blackout situation was featured on BBC News. The reporter showed us how most businesses have closed down, medical drug are so expensive that people now seek Spiritists for various treatments , and how it has affected the economy and further weakened the currency (Bolivar) . Don’t forget it has the world’s largest oil reserves. Presently there is a massive blackout in Venezuela affecting at least 18 of its 23 states according to local media. The Government blames an "electromagnetic attack."

What is an electromagnetic attack?
refers to a high-altitude electromagnetic pulse generated when a nuclear weapon is detonated in space, about 30 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. Once the weapon is detonated, an electromagnetic pulse can travel to the Earth’s surface and disrupt a wide variety of technology systems from appliances to a nation’s electric grid. Can also refer to an attack where the perpetrator is seeking secret keys or passwords, but that’s more likely to be directed at portable electronic devices, not electric grids (Shucheng Yu).

Where does Venezuela’s electricity come from?
Venezuela established a national grid built on hydroelectric and thermoelectric power. In 2015, the total electric production reached 117 TWh, of which 64% comes from hydro, 19% gas, 17% from oil (wikipedia.org) .Today, the Guri dam hydroelectric plant in eastern Venezuela supplies about 80% of the country’s electricity.

Is this the first time the country has suffered electricity supply problems?
There have also been problems with the supply from the Guri dam in the past.In 2010, Maduro’s predecessor, Hugo Chávez, declared an “electricity emergency” after a drought caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon left waters at the dam dangerously low. The major blackout started 7 -14 March, and another July 22, 2019. Since then it became a part of life.

Major Causes of blackout (no electricity)
The causes vary: a series of lightning strikes, a remote software error, poor maintenance, increased demand, climate-change-driven, weather calamities, and even the threat of cyber attack puts infrastructure at greater risk.

What caused the blackout in Venezuela?
According to Rodrigo Linares, a mechanical engineer, the fault possibly caused by a fire, occurred on one of the main power lines between the San Gerónimo B and Malena substations. When that 765KV line went down, two others suffered an overload and also failed. “That basically interrupted the electricity highway and stopped energy reaching consumers” (The Guardian).

Reasons for the blackout in Venezuela?
It depends on who you ask. …….
• The Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, accuses the USs of engaging in a “demonic” plot to force him from power by crippling the country’s electricity system with an imperialist “electromagnetic attack”.
• Miguel Lara, former chief of the state-run agency responsible for the electricity system, said that the electrical networks had, in recent years, been underfunded and overexploited. “The control and supervision systems are interconnected and are from the 1990s and have never been updated,” said Lara. “They’re obsolete technology.” Lara said that the advice of qualified engineers had been ignored, causing the network to fall into a dangerous state of disrepair. “The network lines and transformers weren’t looked after and got overgrown with vegetation and that vegetation started to cause failures. It’s poor maintenance and negligence.”
• Experts believe that failure to properly manage the electricity grid may have caused a fire that destroyed one of the huge lines that transport power from the Guri dam to Caracas.

Impact of the blackout on the economy
The lack of electricity in most states of the country as caused disruptions to the rail system, wide spread traffic jam, lost access to running water, difficulty in buying foods, telecom and internet connectivity problems. It has crippled infrastructure as many skilled Venezuelans have fled to Chile, the United States and Canada. The sale of electric generators is one business booming in Venezuela. The world had turned entirely black for them.

FoodCovid 19 Extension: Trying Different Ways Of Using Groundnut by SmartBam(op): 4:35am On Apr 14, 2020
The Coronavirus pandemic has affected us all in more ways than one. Not even this new extension..... Covid-19 stay home compulsory holiday has made me try out this recipe.I bought the raw groundnut around January and kept it under my table.

I just remembered that intellectual game that we always play "mention how many things you can use a cup for" so i applied the same strategy, so I ask myself what can I do with this groundnut? and this is what I arrived at ...........

Peanut Burger Recipe
1 Cup Groundnut
1 Cup of Flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
½ tsp baking Powder
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp flavor
Grated nutmeg (optional)
Cinnamon (optional)
Vegetable oil for frying

Procedure
Roast your raw groundnut in a non- stick fry pan. Add a little bit of salt (eye- measurement). Keep stirring while roasting, make sure it doesn’t burn. Remove groundnut from pan and set aside to cool off.

In a bowl, crack you egg , add the egg and whisk till the sugar dissolves, add your flavor (I used colorless vanilla) and set aside.

In another bowl, add the dry ingredients(flour, salt, baking powder, nutmeg and cinnamon if you have) and set aside
Peel roasted groundnut shell. Select only groundnut that are together and not broken. Place in a wide bowl.

Pour small amount of egg in the roasted groundnut bowl and shake anticlockwise(to get ball shape) until all the groundnut are coated.

Add small flour mixture in the bowl and shake clockwise, front and back. Make sure you shake well until the groundnut is not wet then add small egg mixture again.
Repeat same process until the egg mixture and flour is finished.

Depending on the size of your egg, you may need more flour in case your peanut is still moist from the egg mixture.

Make sure your peanuts are not sticky, you can know this by touching it,or its appearance. seperate any sticky one and add more flour.you can roll shapeless ball with your palm to get a perfect ball shape.

Pour in a sieve to shake off excess flour before frying.
When I preheated my oil, I made burnt offering peanut. So I advise you fry on medium heat your peanut. Don’t put much at once fry 5- 7mins till golden brown. don’t forget to stir gently while frying.

That's all. Meanwhile........ you can store in a bottle with sealed cover so it doesn't get soft.

Covid-19: 5 affordable foods to boost your immune system
Staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic is challenging for everyone. We all have to eat, our choices of food right now should help boost our immune system. one of the key ways to a healthy immune system is eating right.

Why do I need to boost my Immune system?
My body stands a better chance in the fight against the pandemic if I have a strong immune system.

What type of food can boost my immune system?
Here is a list of foods that can boost your system in that regard.

Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits contains Vitamin C which helps in the increase of production of white blood cells. Popular citrus fruits include: grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, etc.

Red bell peppers: Also known as ‘Tatashe’ actually contain twice as much vitamin C as citrus (Healthline). Many studies has shown it to support the immune system.

Spices: Ginger, garlic, turmeric, and capsaicin (from chili peppers) can be easily added to soups, stews, stir-frys also help in boosting the body system.

Garlic: Garlic’s immune-boosting properties seem to come from a heavy concentration of sulfur-containing compounds, such as allicin.

Green tea: According to Healthline, "Green tea is also a good source of the amino acid L-theanine. L-theanine may aid in the production of germ-fighting compounds in your T-cells". "Where green tea really excels is in its levels of epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, another powerful antioxidant. EGCG has been shown to enhance immune function.

Magnesium-rich foods : may help in boosting your immune system. Examples are legumes, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and whole grains.

Some more...
Pawpaw, kiwi, spinach, vegetables and greek yoghurt(avoid for now) are just as great at making your immune system better.

Immediately you get home after shopping, don’t forget to disinfect your packaged food items wearing a gloves. Wipe down the exterior packaging with disinfectant or alcohol e.g cereals. Wash all vegetables and fruits in a large bowl of water. Don’t forget to wash your hands after removing your gloves. It may sound ridiculous. Hot foods are safer. Avoid cold food like salad and anything that cannot be cooked for your safety. You can’t control the behavior of others but you can surely control your own.
