velociraptor: well, i started this topic after going through series of animated clips or reels done by nigerians so far. really am disappointed in most of what i saw. it is as if the 3d artist are after the title of being the 1st person to publish nigeria's 1st 3d animated reel or movie. if we keep doing this, we 're definitely sending out a bad impression to the international community.

It is really horrible seeing the people that call themselves animators. They always think that being able to model something in 3D makes one an animator. Yet they do not know the BASIC PRINCIPLES of animation.

This is what we are trying to change with our animation courses starting (for the first time) on 4th march at the Goethe Institut. Though we are experts in 2D animation, we are NOT preaching 2D or 3D or any of the Ds. What we are preaching is that people first of all LEARN the BASICS.
It is very embarassing.
Why did we start this Shrinkfish Media Lab (smedlab) because we are tired of being looked down upon by the international community.
Why are we being looked down upon; because of these people sending out (as you said) Negative Vibes to the international Community.
Imagine a film festival in Nederlands being refused of their entitlements in 2010 because according to the City Cultural Office. African films are of CHEAP quality.
So we said, we have heard enough.
Please keep preaching this!!!

Sure, great 3D modellers abound but to animate properly, whether 3D or 2D is a huge challenge. One has to know the Basic principles of animation. Thats why we started the smedLAB (Shrinkfish Media lab) and our first Animation Courses are starting at the Goethe Institut next Monday. Sure this is short notice but we will still accept applications if the person is immensely talented.
