Sand for Concreting and Casting isn't by the colour but by its Sharpness. I'm not against dis yellow colour sand, it maybe Hydrous Aluminium Silicate sand(kaolinite) and if it is, it's not used for casting but for Paper companies, for Paints making as well as fertiliser. Some Paints manufacturing companies in Ogun State collect it from Suppliers, there is a reasonable deposit at a location in Ogun State.

If the purpose is to use it with granite then it must be sharp, if it is sharp no worries but if otherwise... i advise you get a sharp sand irrespective of the colour and should be salt - free.

But one cannot judge the sand from just pictures but by seeing it.

Are you saying 1/2" (half) cannot be used for Decking?

I have seen it used wella-wella Sir.

1/2 inch can be used for decking infact, from my own personal point of view, it's better but anywhere you use 1/2 inch instead of 5/8, be prepared to use more of other materials like cement, sharp sand, stone dust, water etc. This is the reason why most ppl do not use 1/2 inch when u av 5/8, it's not economically advisable. If u use 1/2 inch for ur columns and beams, the difference before plastering is very very clear.

However, there r some parts of construction that 1/2 inch or Rice Granite must be used. If you are building a structure(slab or concrete surface) purposely for retention of water, 1/2 inch or Rice is the best to use just because if properly mixed, it has lower percentage porosity compared to 5/8, 7/8, 1 inch etc.

Examples: Dams, irrigation storage, fish ponds, swimming pools, drainage.

It will spread and cover some areas 7/8 won't reach.

But all in all, 5/8(3/4 down) is the hottest cake of Granite.

Stone dust is very good in casting and also concreting, u can also use it for ur blocks instead of sands.

The good thing is, it's almost d same price wit sand so why not order for ur stone dust now?
