When Excellence is Punished: How JAMB Denied Best Student His Future
In what can only be described as an injustice to merit, a brilliant student, with over 300 marks in the 2025 UTME has been denied the opportunity to pursue his dream at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) — his first choice of institution. This unfortunate case raises questions about fairness, transparency, and accountability in Nigeria’s education system.
The student initially celebrated when his UTME result was released, showing a score above 300 — an extraordinary achievement in an exam where only a few reach such heights. With renewed hope, he prepared for ABU’s Post-UTME, scheduled for Thursday, 21st August 2025.
However, his joy was short-lived. While attempting to register for ABU’s screening, his efforts were repeatedly unsuccessful. Alarmed, he tried printing his JAMB result slip, only to be greeted with the shocking message: “NO RESULT YET.”
In desperation, he sent UTMERESULT to JAMB’s shortcode 55019. The response returned was even more heartbreaking: “RESULT UNDER INVESTIGATION.”
The family immediately rushed to the JAMB office in Kaduna to seek answers. He was directed to generate a support ticket, which he promptly did. But instead of a solution, the response he received was: “Wait until investigation is concluded.”
Meanwhile, time is not on his side. With ABU’s Post-UTME around the corner, he personally visited the university to plead for consideration. Unfortunately, ABU officials made it clear that nothing could be done without a valid result slip.
This leaves the student — one of the brightest of his peers — stranded. His dreams are shattered not because he failed, but because the very institution tasked with safeguarding fairness in admissions has failed him. Unless JAMB acts swiftly, this young man will have no choice but to wait until next year, pay again, and sit for another UTME, punished for no crime of his own.
The questions remain:
Why was his result initially released and later withdrawn?
Why does JAMB take months to investigate cases, knowing universities have fixed deadlines?
Shouldn’t students be considered innocent until proven guilty of malpractice?
Nigeria cannot continue to frustrate its best minds in this manner. When a student works hard, scores above 300, and yet loses admission due to bureaucratic negligence, the message sent to millions of youths is simple: hard work doesn’t matter.
If JAMB is truly an institution of integrity, it must urgently review its processes and ensure no other student suffers such injustice again. The future of Nigeria depends on nurturing, not frustrating, its brightest stars.

EducationPrisctun Condemns The Unwarranted Killing Of Marwan Of Al-azhar Academy Zaria by SMSdigital(op):
The Private School Tutors Union of Nigeria, PRISCTUN, Kaduna State Council has condemned in totality the alleged unwarranted homicide perpetuated by the management and staff of Al-Azhar Academy at Kofan Gayan Turunku Road, Zaria, Kaduna State. Our preliminary investigation revealed that the unfortunate Basic 9 student of the school, Marwan Nuhu Sambo, was brutally flogged to death by the staff and senior students of the school on the order of the school management for absenteeism.

PRISCTUN condemns such gruesome killing of the student by the supposed caregivers, who should naturally be the custodians of his welfare in school. There is no amount of provocation by students that should warrant inflicting injuries on them, much less condemning them to death.

The union under the leadership of Comrade Ahmed I. Simpa will never entertain such wicked behaviours from the educators. Schools are academic institutions where knowledge, attitude and skills are acquired for the betterment of our society, and by extension, the whole of humanity, and not slaughterhouses.

We would like to use this medium to caution all teachers in both private and public schools, to be mindful and wary of the kind and manner of punishment being meted out on students. Students are naturally bound to commit infractions, knowingly or in a carefree manner in the school, and even go outrightly weird sometimes on the school staff. Nevertheless, this should not in anyway lead to corporal punishment. As professional educators, we are expected to manage students in such a manner that their academic development as well as their welfare are promoted and enhanced simultaneously.

The union sincerely appreciates the Kaduna State government for its swift action and intervention in this matter, and urges it to do everything within its powers to unravel the mystery in which the death of the innocent boy is shrouded. Proper and detailed investigation should be carried out to ensure that those who are, either by their acts of omission or commission, accomplices to this terrible act of homicide are proportionally punished to serve as a serious deterrent to others. We urge the State government through its designated agencies to take proactive measures against reoccurrence of such barbaric behaviour by the school management and/or its teaching staff.

The union extends its condolences to the family of late Marwan Nuhu Sambo, his classmates, our dear teachers and indeed Kaduna State government. May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.

Nairaland GeneralObiang 44 Years Rules With His Son As The Second Vice President by SMSdigital(op): 11:31am On Sep 01, 2023
EQUATORIAL GUINEA WHERE OBIANG HAS RULED FOR OVER 44 YEARS AND HIS SON AS THE SECOND VICE PRESIDENT
Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, (born June 5, 1942, Acoacan, Spanish Guinea [now Equatorial Guinea]), military leader and politician who has ruled Equatorial Guinea since seizing power from his uncle in a coup in 1979. He is among the longest-serving heads of state (excluding monarchs) in the world. His decades of authoritarian rule have been marked by human rights abuses and blatant corruption.
Obiang was born into a family of the Esangui, a subset of the Fang ethnic group, the largest group in Spanish Guinea (now Equatorial Guinea). As an adult, he attended Zaragoza Military Academy (1963–65) in Spain. When Equatorial Guinea became independent in 1968, Obiang’s uncle, Francisco Macías Nguema, was the country’s first president. During his uncle’s rule, Obiang held several military and government positions, including those of military governor of the island of Fernando Po (now Bioko), director of the notorious Playa Negra prison, and deputy minister of defense. He also served as aide-de-camp to his uncle from 1975, by which time he had been promoted to lieutenant colonel.
1979 coup
Macías’s rule was extremely brutal, being rife with horrific human rights abuses, some of which Obiang was a party to. Obiang reportedly began plotting with other family members to overthrow the president after Obiang’s brother was put to death, among several other officers executed in 1979 at the behest of Macías. The bloody coup, known as the “coup for freedom,” took place on August 3, 1979. Later that month, a Supreme Military Council, with Obiang at its head, was established to govern the country. Macías was put on trial and executed in September.

Obiang’s rule
Any hope that Obiang’s rule would be significantly different from his uncle’s was short-lived. The illusion of democratic reform under him existed: he added civilians to the Supreme Military Council in 1981; oversaw the creation of a new constitution, with assistance from the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, in 1982; and presided over the promulgation of another constitution, providing for multiparty politics, in 1991. However, the 1982 constitution was criticized for granting Obiang a seven-year term as president and for giving the president far-reaching powers, and the 1991 constitution eliminated what few human rights protections had existed under the previous constitution and guaranteed that Obiang could not be prosecuted for anything he did “before, during, and after his mandate.” (In 1995 this would be amended to “The law shall govern the privileges and immunities of Heads of State after their mandate.”) In 1987 Obiang created the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE), which until 1991 was the only legal party in the country; it has been the ruling party since its creation. Obiang was reelected in 1989 in an election in which he ran unopposed, and he won reelection by wide margins in the multiparty contests of 1996, 2002, and 2009—all of which were widely denounced as fraudulent.

The political changes that have taken place under Obiang have done little to uplift the Equatorial Guinean population, which has continued to suffer poverty and inadequate access to basic services. Significant oil and gas deposits within the country’s maritime borders were discovered in the 1990s, and the ensuing years of extraction have generated considerable revenue, but the majority of the proceeds have been funneled to Obiang and the rest of the ruling elite, who have lived extravagant lifestyles while the rest of the population has experienced poverty. Over the years, Obiang and others in his circle—in particular, one of his sons, Teodoro (“Teodorin”) Nguema Obiang Mangue—have been targeted in investigations launched in other countries regarding allegations of embezzlement, money laundering, and misuse of public funds. Obiang’s human rights record is also poor, as he has brutally suppressed any dissent. Reports of restricted personal freedoms, harassment of opposition members, unlawful arrests, forced disappearances, and torture have been routine.

Obiang’s hold on power was fortified by constitutional changes passed in a 2011 referendum (broadly viewed as not credible) and enacted in 2012. These included the imposition of a limit of two consecutive presidential terms—which was later determined not to be retroactive and thus not applicable to Obiang’s several previous terms as president—and the elimination of an age limit for presidential candidates, which would have prevented the aging Obiang from running for president again. Another change created the position of vice president, to be appointed by the president and to be next in line for the presidency should the incumbent president die or retire. This led many to speculate that Obiang was intent on choosing who would succeed him. Later in 2012 he appointed Teodorin as second vice president, even though that position was not provided for in the recent changes to the constitution. Teodorin was widely viewed as Obiang’s choice for his successor.
Obiang stood in the 2016 and 2022 presidential elections and was reelected in a landslide both times—receiving 93.7 percent and 94.9 percent of the vote, respectively. As in previous elections, however, domestic and international observers reported irregularities in the electoral process and noted concerns about instances of intimidation, coercion, and unfair campaign practices, which cast doubt on the credibility of the results.
Human rights abuses persisted under Obiang, though he occasionally made efforts to placate those calling for reform. In 2014 he announced that he was granting amnesty to political opponents as one of his efforts to prepare for a national dialogue, to be held later that year, with opposition parties, civil society groups, and other stakeholders. However, that discussion did not result in much meaningful change, and many political opponents remained in prison. He held a similar event in 2018, though it was boycotted and denounced as a public relations exercise by a leading opposition figure. In 2022 Obiang signed into law a measure that abolished the death penalty, which was heralded as a positive step.

Threats to power
Since taking power, Obiang has been wary of plotters scheming to depose or assassinate him. Consequently, he has used foreigners to make up his presidential guard detail. Over the decades, his regime has repeatedly claimed that it was the subject of attempted coups, but many of the allegations have not been confirmed. One notable confirmed coup plot was discovered in 2004. Sometimes referred to as the Wonga coup, the plot involved dozens of foreign mercenaries, millions of dollars, the removal of Obiang, and the installation of exiled opposition leader Severo Moto in his place. However, through the efforts of officials in multiple African countries, the plot was foiled before it could be carried out.

UNESCO prize controversy
In 2008 Obiang sponsored the establishment of the UNESCO–Obiang Nguema Mbasogo International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences, providing a $3 million endowment. However, the prize generated much controversy in 2010, when it was to be awarded for the first time, given Obiang’s poor human rights record, the long-standing allegations that he had siphoned his country’s oil revenue for his personal use, and the poor quality of life that most Equatorial Guineans were subjected to. UNESCO postponed conferring the award until 2012, having renamed it the UNESCO–Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences.

EducationCongratulations To Comr. Ayuba Magaji Suleiman by SMSdigital(op): 2:23pm On Mar 08, 2023
CONGRATULATIONS TO COMR. AYUBA MAGAJI SULEIMAN

On behalf of Private School Tutors Union of Nigeria (PRISCTUN) Kaduna State Council, I wish to congratulate our indefatigable re-elected Kaduna state NLC chairperson, Comrade Ayuba Magaji Suleiman on this propitious mandate that the Kaduna state Council NLC affiliate unions have bestowed on you to superintend over the affairs of the council for the next four years, God's willing.
You must be highly contented with this re-election as you have undoubtedly worked very hard to achieve this position. Your commitment and dedication has helped you attain this post. This position did not come by chance as you have glaringly signified as a committed, dogged and selfless unionist for the struggle for Kaduna state workers both in the private and the public sectors.
Your leadership style of inclusiveness and selflessness in the struggle for decent work place and wages of Kaduna workers has really endeared us, the neo-unionist to emulate and take your leadership style as a course of study. You remained bullheaded, unrelenting and committed to the cause despite the hostile policies of the state government against workers in the recent time.
Despite the setbacks, you have made a significant landmarks. You surmounted all odds and have succeeded in writing your name in gold in the annals of history of Kaduna NLC council. Your achievements within the last four years is unbeatable.
May God almighty continue to strengthen you in good health and wisdom as you yet accept to steer this mantle of leadership for the next four years.

EducationKaduna Teachers Cry Again Over Non-payment Of Eight Months Salaries by SMSdigital(op): 7:50pm On Jan 04, 2023
The newly recruited teachers of the administration of Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai, the Executive Governor of Kaduna state have lamented bitterly over non-payment of eight months salaries. Recall that the teachers had wanted to Protest over the state government failure to pay their seven months salaries since they were posted on 17th May 2022 but were threatened to be arrested by the DSS and other security agencies if they had embarked on the protest. A meeting was called by the Kaduna state Teachers Service Board where they promised to pay the teachers before the end of December 2022. Another month has been added again without salaries. The teachers however said that towards the end of December 2022, only less than ten percent of over seven thousand teachers employed were paid one month salary out of the seven months owed them leaving others uncertain about when they would be paid.
Some of the teachers complained on social media that they could not sleep at home any longer as those they are owing are threatening to arrest them.
They call on well-meaning Nigerians and lovers of education to help beg Kaduna state governor to pay them. They wondered what crime they have committed to be teachers.
