And for the GOATs talk and other whatnot, it's a matter of individual preferences. It has nothing to do with the 'realness' of football fans as you've just said.

Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with scoring tap ins. But you can’t claim to be the GOAT of football when all you basically do is to score tap ins.

There’s a reason why football fans enjoy long range golazo or dribbling 5 players from the middle of the field to score a wonderful goal. Those goals are usually voted goals of the week or of the season.

Now, scoring only goals doesn’t make you the GOAT. There are other ways of contributing during a game. Assists, accurate passes, creating chances, dribbling etc. Even winning fouls.

I know one player that does all these, week in week out and I believe nobody else should be referred to as the GOAT except him.

Again, I don’t have problem with scoring tap ins but you can’t claim to be the best player ever as a result of scoring them.

Again, Messi’s game is more than scoring goals but he does score goals anyway. He scores, he assists, he dribbles and attracts players to himself to free other players, and his pass? They are defense splitting passes. He does all this and more while being an humble and respectable player. Messi once, not once or twice, got a 9.2 rating and was a MOTM without scoring a goal in a game.

Same thing cannot be said of Penaldo. He’s either hanging in the box or throwing tantrums on the field of play. He’s basically useless, without goals. This season, even the thing he loves doing, he isn’t doing it well; reason why ETH doesn’t find him valuable.
