Cost so far from when the 1st batch came is is about 1.5 million.

New batch of 1,000 are in and we are fully ready for the challenge. Schedule are planned ahead from the experience of the 1st batch. We had a few casualties already because the chicks spent a day at the hatchery without food and water while receiving vaccination.

Birds are healthy-looking

Our 1st revenue came from sale of their droppings.
Birds were segmented in the weigh-class.
At WEEK 19, we got our 1st egg and it did not come from the ones that were weighing 1.5kg and over, it came from 1.3-1.4kg segment.

It was consistent for 4 days before another came from the 1.5kg segment

As at today in WEEK 20, bird count is 402 and we are getting 4 eggs/day

At WEEK 13, their new home was much ready to receive them. They were put into the cage

First outbreak was cough at WEEK 8, over 10 birds were largely infected with their eyes blinded. I feared the worst, the affected ones were isolated and fed manually. Luckily or unluckily we only lost one when.

Next casualties were out of carelessness, we lost 9 when trying to vaccinate them. They died of stampede. I thought that will be the worst of it all.

Boom! WEEK 11, we woke up to 10 deaths, 25 deaths, 23 deaths, 16 deaths at 4 consecutive days. I was furious. These things did not die at tender age only for them to be dying off at WEEK 11. My professional came in and noticed that they were sick of coccidial. Anticoccidial was only administered in the WEEK 2 only. Coccifor was given at the day we lost 25 so it was dropping from the progression.

At WEEK 12, we had 3, 2, 3, 1 consecutive deaths. My professional said it must be from the ones badly infected by the coccidial

...By January, I was scared when the 1st batch of 500 were to come. I was scared that I might fail because of all the experience that I have read here on Nairaland. I get courage from watching YouTube videos on poultry farms.

Every progress of the farm was recorded
I had 4 casualties in the 1st week, the professional that was visiting the farm attributed it to cold. We do have brooding gas in the brooder so I was surprised how cold could have killed anyone because the place is always too hot for me and the farm workers

The installation guy finished with the cages on Christmas Day and went back to Ibadan that same day.
Christmas was celebrated at the site. I was happy with the level of work done and where we were.
The target was to finish every physical structure by the end of the year.

At October, the pen was 80% ready. The two rooms opposite each other are the brooding rooms.

I don't know where battery cages can be purchased in Owerri so I was in contact with someone here on Nairaland for that purpose. His office location was in Ibadan. Ordinarily, we would have done business without seeing, but with the rate of fraudulent activities in the country there was a need for me to visit Ibadan for the 1st time since there were no financial service that provided escrow services .

I have always had interest of having a medium to large scale poultry farm (5,000 - 10,000 birds) from a friend in the financial sector that is also fascinated in poultry farming .
