Career / Re: How Do I Enhance My Career (your Advice Needed) by snowserve(m): 7:23pm On Aug 29, 2014
Jamieb: Am 22 and a graduate of English currently working with NIMC. Probably i will start my masters next year. I have been thinking lately of a professional course to go for that is in line with my course of study. Also i am intermediate in French and very passionate about learning it to become fluent but my fear is that if one does not have speakers around it might be difficult to learn it and speak it fluently at ibadan will be difficult. i know of Alliance Francais but have no ideal of how fast they can help one in becoming a speaker. My dream is to become a diplomat and i dont know the professional courses that would pedal me in that direction. Your contributions are highly appreciated.

Allianz Francais can help you attain your desired level of proficiency in French irrespective of your environment. I think your zeal is key.

For your diplomatic ambition, I'll suggest Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management (IPDM) & Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (ISMN ). Also do your research.
All the best.

Career / Re: Pls Help Me Out Here!!! by snowserve(m): 5:53pm On Aug 29, 2014
tolaxin: I want to know which one would be so cool according to
the Nigeria economy.. A degree in Mechanical
Engineering OR Computer Science
Pls give me some reasons for your option

You know yourself more than anyone else, why not take an analytical view of your strengths and weaknesses. Look at what you are capable of handling and make a wise choice.

Nigerian economy should not be the sole determinant of what you will study. You can study a low rated course and be more successful than someone with a degree in Accountancy backed with several certifications.

Chase excellence in whatever you do and success will chase you pants down.

Both courses are good, but what are your career goals? Answer this question and everything becomes clearer. Most importantly, take it to God in prayer.

Cheers...

The skills mentioned above are summarized into four (4) here: www.strath.ac.uk/careers/skills. Got this link from a thread in the job section.

In subsequent posts, i will be giving tips on resume writing and "testing the waters". Meanwhile, if you want me to rewrite your cv, forward it to snowserve@gmail.com, it goes for a fee, but the sacrifice is worth it if you consider the benefits of having a great resume even while serving.

Vig86: My problem is reading ability/skill. I am too lazy to read. I bookmark everything instead of reading it the very minute and after that I won't read it again. I have bookmarked hundreds of topics and interesting news. Let me not go far, as I am writing this, I couldn't finish reading your post but I have bookmarked it to read latter.

Always have a reading goal and develop an inquisitive mind.
"Readers are Leaders" is a mantra i so much believe in. Cultivating the reading habit requires a lot of discipline. I'll advice you start by getting materials you're so much crazy about to read, from there you can move to other areas which interests you and are germane to your career goals.

Gradually clear off those bookmarked topics through reading, you can also set a time limit to do so. Hope this helps you.

Cheers.

Hello People,

Becoming successful involves doing the ordinary things extraordinarily well. It has to do with a lot of planning and strategies. I have discovered a great number of people finish serving their fatherland without the right preparation for the labor market. I will be sharing some useful tips which can aid your preparation for a great career.
