Investment / Re: Why Are Home Based Nigerians Such Terrible Investors? by SoftBillionaire: 11:04am On Sep 09, 2020
Tejuri:
So I was with a few friends lately and we where all discussing about investments and I noticed those who are based in Nigeria mostly spoke of very low yielding investments like fixed deposits, one even left millions of naira in a savings account for 1-2% interest rate.

I understand being averse to risk but fixed deposits and having huge sums are simply making the bank richer at your expense.

I don’t know if it’s financial illiteracy or just plain old laziness. Making sound investment decisions isn’t magic, sometimes all you need to do is just watch the news and you will know what to do.

In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic in March, I bought 5 Amazon stock on eToro for $1820 each totaling just over $9000, I sold them last Thursday when Amazon stocks was at $3400, I turned $9000 into $17000 in 6 months.

I didn’t have a dream beforehand where I saw that Amazon stocks where going to blow up, but knowing there was a lockdown due to the virus, customers wouldn’t be able to go to physical stores for their needs, they have to turn to online stores, Amazon being the biggest in the US, they are where customers will turn to. Simple logic.

Conclusion is my people stay woke, bankers are getting rich with your money, why not be making that money by yourself. I saw in the news yesterday that top executives in Nigerian banks made 2.3 billion naira in interim dividends for the last fiscal year. It is your money you’re just keeping in the bank doing nothing that they trade with and get rich off. Take charge of your investments, watch news channels like Bloomberg tv and always keep yourself informed with happenings in the world of finance.
Fear is what is limiting many. The fear of loosing. To be a good investor, you must replace fear with wisdom.

Programming / Re: Eyeopener: Aspiring Nigerian Game/App Developers Should Read This by SoftBillionaire: 12:49pm On Sep 07, 2020
Talk24:
Oh please don't tell me that game development is not "lucrative". In fact at a time like this, the game development platform is one of the most profitable, because most of your potential players around the world are just sitting at home doing nothing (due to COVID-19). In the early days of the Appstore and Playstore, It was very easy for your app to go viral, even if it is a paid app. But now, as newer monetisation models are introduced, selling your game has proven to be a difficult nut to crack. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of Nigerians with jaw-dropping ideas for games, but just don't know how to execute them. Today, We will be taking a look at the top 4 reasons why there aren't many game programmers in Nigeria, and why most Nigerian Game Devs give up after publishing their first game to the Playstore/Appstore.

1. Lack of Marketing Skills/Strategy
A lot of game programmers think that the moment they publish their game to the Appstore, then they will become a millionaire. We all know that is not true, in fact let me break it to you, you probably are not going to make a million dollars from your first game, but that should not let you down. You need to think of a marketing strategy to let people know about your game. In order to make a killer game, you have to sit down and watch your opponents in the platform. For example, if you are working on a first-person shooter, then study other FPS games out there on the Appstore/Playstore are try to figure out their weaknesses. Remember the game flappy bird? Yeah that game was hugely popular around 2014, at a point the developer was making about $50,000 from the game each day. When Flappy Bird was released, it was given a low rating, A lot of people complained that it was rigged and too hard. But things changed after the popular YouTuber, PewDiePie reviewed the game and complained about how difficult the game was. But believe it or not, that made Flappy Bird popular. Flappy Bird introduced the world to a whole new genre of games, Hypercasual games. Flappy bird was not popular because, It had the best graphics, in fact, the pixelated art in the game was a turn-off for most people initially. Flappy Bird grew in popularity, because a popular YouTuber reviewed the game. In order to make all the effort you put in your game seem worthwhile, you need to figure out how to market it. If you got the budget, then advertise your game on Instagram (not Facebook , because no one really uses Facebook these days). You can advertise with Google and other and networks, get social.media influencers to begin to talk about your game. Advertising is not enough to boost the number of downloads for your game. There are other factors like ASO(App store Optimization) which works like SEO, The ratings your game has, when your game was last updated, etc. Of course if you are low on budget, you can use the $0 Marketing strategy, but that is a topic for another time.

2. Starting too big
Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing about dreaming big. But mehn, Some Nigerians are too ambitious. You can't tell me you just finished learning C#/C++ and now you want to make 3D games like GTA, or Fortnite. These games were developed by huge companies with several professionals on the job, yet it took them several years to bring the game to life. You just finished learning C#? I know you have a lot of dreams but please cut your dream in half and please get your game finished. When you are done, you game might not be up to Appstore's standards but not to worry, you can publish it to popular websites made for indie game Devs like itch.io. If you need ideas for games you can head over to itch.io and join a game jam. Start small and grow big. Don't start with unity game engine, start with smaller game engines like Godot Game Engine, which honestly despite small size (about 30MB), The engine is still able to create better looking 2D/2.5D games than Unity and Unreal
. You can also tryout other less powerful engines like Game maker and Construct. These engines will help shape you and tell you what you are up against. Don't start by trying to make something as labour intensive as a game engine.

3. Lack of electricity
Honestly, as a game developer, a lot of your time will be spent looking at your computer screen trying to fix an annoying bug that is causing your game to crash. The electricity situation in Nigeria is nothing to.write home about, It is gradually improving though, I think a lot more could be done.

4. Being too local
One mistake game developers make is making their game too local. Now don't get me wrong, creating a game based on the African heritage is pretty cool, but you need to think beyond that. Remember that most players don't even speak English. So as you make your game try as much as you can to translate your game to other languages, so that players around the world will be able to enjoy your game without any language barriers. Don't limit the language in your game to English/Pidgin

Please free to add your thoughts too.

Politics / Re: Paul Okah Beaten At The Home Of Anthony Ekoh As Group Petitions IGP (Pix) by SoftBillionaire: 12:35pm On Sep 07, 2020
Kosiso12:
Blueprint Reporter Beaten Mercilessly In APC Chieftain Home As Group Petitions IGP (Photos)

The Human Rights Defenders (HURIDE), Ebonyi State Chapter has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Adamu over a recent assault meted out on the Abuja correspondent of Blueprint Newspapers, Mr Paul Okah by suspected cultists.

IGBERE TV gathered that the journalist was attacked on the 23rd day of August, 2020 in the Afikpo home of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Pharmacist Anthony Ekoh Junior, during his visit in preparation for the burial of his late father and to celebrate the Afikpo New Yam festival.

The Chairman of HURIDE in Ebonyi State, Comrade Sam Oko Nweke (S.A.M) made this known Sunday while presenting a copy of the petition to newsmen in Abakaliki.

He decried the incessant attack and persecution of journalists in Ebonyi State, noting that this new attack is coming barely one month after a similar attack on the Ebonyi State correspondent of The Punch Newspaper, Mr Edward Nnachi.

“In the course of investigation following the complaint, HURIDE phoned the accused, Barr Mudi Erhenede, who admitted that he was actually in Tony Ekoh’s compound on the said date of attack, but totally denied knowledge of the attack on the journalist by his alleged boys,” Oko Nweke explained.

The HURIDE Chairman also narrated that the group had contacted Pharm. Tony Ekoh, in whose compound the act was perpetrated, who acknowledged the presence of both Paul Okah and Barr Mudi Erhenede and his followers in his compound on the fateful date, but said nobody notified him when Paul Okah was being attacked.

Oko Nweke, however, told journalists that eyewitnesses confirmed that one Emmanuel Ibiam Umeh (a.k.a Bakassi) first slapped Paul Okah before other boys joined him in manhandling the Blueprint journalist until he was rescued through the effort of a journalist with Unity FM Abakaliki, Mr Unya Effor, who provided his car for Paul Okah to escape to safety.

Oko Nweke finally assured Ebonyians, especially journalists, of HURIDE’S avowed preparedness to tackle injustice head-on and to advance peace in the state.

It could be recalled that Paul Okah has often been threatened by many Afikpo youths pledging loyalty to some politicians they claim the journalist criticises in the course of performing his constitutional duties.

The latest threat being that of Ibiam Junior (aka Terror), who threatened the life of the journalist in a comment on his post on Friday, September, 2020.

Ofadaman:
Forex is trading just like stocks and other investment, just that in this case you're trading currency, now when an aboki man guys dollar cheap and sells it at high rate he's just trader forex, now the reason why it's more complicated in the global fx market is that, the liquidity is much and people can leverage their capital to make returns, e.g. even if you don't have 100k dollars, with your 50$ you can trade with the capacity of someone who has 100k or even 500k $ , the only problem is that you can make austronomical profits same way you can lose hellishly, due to the leverage.

Forex is not a scam or anything , it's investment just like stocks, just in this case you can lose all your capital. Now, it's a zero sum market ,which means, you're gain is someone else's losses.

I've traded fx since 2008, I'm a veteran there but I'll tell you the basic facts, ... A decent trader only makes slightly above the returns on the average stock market index yearly, which is around 23-25%, there are people who make 2000% in a day, but on average, they end up losing same way due to the huge risk they take on their portfolio,

Most early traders, are all about making money and their fingers are gittery, they make trades out if emotions, they enter too late, they close profit too early, they are afraid of mising out and that's why they end up losing their capital, experience traders learned to not trade all the time, do their research and then take position based on facts not emotions, they also know that risk management is the key.
Sure!

Your signature is complete false,I guess you are one of the reason people are giving bad name to forex..How dey hell do you make 300% weekly? Do you have any trade history to back up ur claims?

Please read carefully. Never said I was making 300% weekly. I said you earn 50% share of profit weekly, that is each week. Till the 50% being earned per week amounts to a total of 300% of capital invested. So that will not happen in one week, but after number of weeks.

lekanolas:
Gov Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Sunday made a surprise visit to the anointing church service of the OMEGA Fire Ministries Worldwide in Auchi.

Obaseki thanked the worshippers for their prayers and urged them to continue to pray for Nigeria and the peaceful conduct of the Edo governorship election.

“I am not going to campaign even though the election is near because the General Overseer will not allow his altar to be used for political campaign but I want to tell you to shun violence and pray for peace in the election”, he admonished them.

Following his brief speech for which he received cheers from the worshippers, Apostle John Suleman prayed for peaceful conduct of the election and strength for Obaseki who knelt down before the whole church.

Suleiman also prayed for Obaseki’s deputy, Phillip Shuaib.

Recall that last week, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu also worshipped with Apostle Suleman.
