Sports / 2026 WCQ: Finidi Must Get The Best From Super Eagles Players –ikpeba by solbase10(m): 12:48pm
Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has charged Finidi George to get the best out of the players ahead of the team’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa next month.

Recall that the former Enyimba coach was unveiled on Monday by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and he’s expected to take over from Jose Peseiro, who left the job after taking Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking on Monday Night Football on Super Sports, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist appealed to Nigerians to support Finidi in his quest to qualify the team for the 2026 World Cup.

He also warned new Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Amokachi to ensure there is harmony within the team.

“Finidi has been given the opportunity to manage one of the most demanding footballing nations when it comes to football in Africa.

“There is pressure, and I wish him well. The likes of Amokachi, Benjamin James, I know him well because I was with him in Germany. He has brought his own assistant.

“What we need now within the coaching crew is trust and working together in harmony for the success of this great nation.

“We have the potential, and it is for Finidi to get the best from these players. I absolutely wish them well, and we can’t wait for the game Uyo against South Africa on June 7. They have to go out there and step up their game because I do believe that we can get the victory againstSouth Africa.”

Sports / Aston Villa Confident Of Signing Nigerian Forward Ahead Of Man United, Arsenal by solbase10(m): 11:20am On May 09
Aston Villa are confident they can beat Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Manchester United in securing the signing of Crystal Palace star Michael Olise, FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal.

According to FootballTransfers, Olise aims to join a Champions League team next season and secure a spot as a regular starter, prioritising his playing time over sitting on the bench.

This development would undoubtedly be a big blow to Arsenal, who value the Olise highly.

But the prospect of regular game time is diminished at the Emirates due to established players like Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard having already cemented their roles in similar positions.

As for United, their probable lack of European football makes securing Olise’s signature highly unlikely.

The uncertainty over the Red Devils’ managerial situation also counts against them, particularly as Unai Emery has recently signed a new contract with the Birmingham outfit, meaning they can offer stability the Old Trafford side cannot.

Given Olise’s desire to compete in the Champions League and secure a starting position, inside sources at Villa Park reveal that sporting director Monchi is confident in persuading the player to choose Villa over Arsenal and Man Utd.

Villa are known to be after a natural wide attacker in the summer and Olise would fit the bill perfectly for the Champions League-bound Birmingham side.

Data analytics experts SciSports indicate that the 22-year-old has the potential to become a key player at Villa Park and would very quickly challenge the likes of Leon Bailey to earn substantial game time.

The Englishman scored 278 goals and registered 64 assists in 430 appearances during his time with Tottenham Hotspur.

in just 32 games this season, Kane has scored 31 goals and provided eight assists for Bayern.

The Arsenal legend told Sky Sports as reported by TBR Football: “The evolution of Harry Kane has been outstanding. This is why I want to mention that goals, at times, don’t assure you to win titles, but it doesn’t matter.

“Look at how calm he is. Everything that he does, is calm.”

While watching a few clips of Kane in Germany, Henry added: “I know in that game I think the team was playing with nine, but it doesn’t matter.

“He’s composed. You can name any goal, this guy can score any goal, any pass, coming into midfield and play.”

Despite Kane’s impressive displays for Thomas Tuchel’s side, they have however struggled this term.

The Bundesliga giants are currently 10 points adrift Bayer Leverkusen in the race for the title.

Sports / Petit: Signing Mbappe May Cause Leadership Problem At Real Madrid by solbase10(m): 12:38pm On Feb 21
Former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Petit has warned of a possible leadership problem at Real Madrid if Kylian Mbappe is eventually signed with the club.

Petit in an interview with AS, stated that most players at Real Madrid are not happy with the potential arrival of the France international.

“If he goes to Madrid it could be a problem. Not just in terms of salary in the dressing room, but also in terms of leadership. Bellingham has been incredible, as has Vinicius, and if he goes to Madrid, he will have to play as a striker, just like he did recently at PSG.

“But we all know that this not the best position. There are many questions and no answers. We are all tired in France. Every 6 months there is always the same story on the table. Is he going? Will he stay? Is he happy? Did he have a good breakfast? Even in France we are fed up.

“I can understand that the players are also angry about this situation, because all the attention is always focused on Mbappé. We don’t talk about PSG, we always talk about Mbappé. So it might be a problem for some players to handle this situation. And that’s why I said I’m tired of talking about it every three weeks.”

“I have no idea what will happen and, to be honest, we are 67 million French people who have no idea what Mbappé will decide at the end of the season. Mbappé said two weeks ago that he will give his answer shortly before the end of the season season.

“So I have no idea if he will stay in Paris, there is so much speculation, so many rumours, deals, things like that. So when you talk about Mbappé the door always opens and you never know what will happen. Maybe he will go to Madrid, maybe he’ll stay in Paris, maybe he’ll go somewhere else.”

Sports / Coaching Crew To Blame For Eagles‘ AFCON Final Defeat —taribo by solbase10(m): 2:08pm On Feb 14
Legendary Nigeria defender, Taribo West, has blamed Jose Peseiro-led coaching crew for the Super Eagles’ loss to Côte d’Ivoire in the AFCON 2023 final.

The Eagles hopes of a fourth AFCON title was dashed following a 2-1 loss to the Ivorians.

It was a performance to forget for the Eagles as they were second best throughout Sunday’s tie.

Despite taking the lead through William Troost-Ekong, the hosts fought back thanks to goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller.

Commenting on why the Eagles struggled against the hosts Taribo, said on Brila FM:“I hold the bench responsible for the loss to Côte d’Ivoire. In 1990 Nigeria lost 5-1 to Algeria in the opening game but in the final it was a different ball game.

“Though the Algerians won 1-0 in the final they realised it was a different Nigerian team to the one they faced earlier in the competition.

“I remember when we faced Brazil at the Olympics they beat us in the group stage but when we met again in the semi-final, even though they were 3-1 up we were still able to comeback. They knew they were up against another Nigerian side.

“For me, the coaching crew should have come up with another strategy after meeting Côte d’Ivoire again.”

A Lautaro Giannetti’s 25th minute strike was enough to earn Udinese the win which move them up from the relegation zone to 16th in the league table.

Sports / Arsenal Back In Premier League Title Race After 3-1 Victory Against Liverpool by solbase10(m): 12:26pm On Feb 06
Throughout the opening months of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Arsenal had looked like a genuine contender. They were exactly that last season, however, they ultimately threw away an eight-point lead to second-placed Manchester City, who went on to win the title for the third year running. The Gunners, meanwhile, had to settle for second place and a return to the Champions League for the first time since the days of Arsene Wenger.

This season, Mikel Arteta’s men once again topped the pile. However, a dismal run of form over the festive period saw them lose at home to West Ham and away at Fulham. Those games saw them drop all the way down to fourth in the league, a mighty five points behind league leaders Liverpool. Popular online bookmakers, whose Premier League odds and bonus bets are compared by oddschecker, then made Arsenal distant third favorites for the title behind Jurgen Klopp’s Reds and Pep Guardiola’s Blues.

Make or Break Clash
With the threat of the title aspirations being torpedoed as early as February, defeat wasn’t an option when the Merseysiders made their way to the Emirates. And the hosts knew it. They came out of the blocks firing and took a deserved lead through Bukayo Saka, the England winger tapping home a goal after Alisson Becker’s saved Gabriel Martinelli’s shot. However, the visitors equalized on the stroke of halftime thanks to Garbeil’s own goal and it looked as though that five-point gap would remain.

In the second half, it was the Reds who came out with the added impetus, netting straight from the restart. However, The Gunners regained their composure and began to take control of the contest. In the 63rd minute, they were duly rewarded for their endeavor when Gabriel Martinelli took advantage of a mix-up between the aforementioned Alisson and captain Virgil Van Dijk to slot the ball into an empty net.

The visitors pushed for an equalizer, but it never came. That opened the door for Leandro Trossard to seal the victory in injury time, slashing Liverpool’s lead at the top of the staple to just two points. The reigning champions are just three points further back and they have two games in hand on their nearest rivals.

What’s Next?
Arsenal have a tough month ahead of them with back-to-back clashes against Chelsea and Manchester City on the horizon in mid-march. They also have to balance the Champions League with their domestic responsibilities, something they didn’t have to do last term. Liverpool can rest players midweek as they are competing in the Europa League, and that could play a decisive factor as the title race begins to reach the finish line.
