Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has described RB Leipzig star, Christopher Nkunku as very power and exceptional player who could become a great asset for Chelsea if a deal is finally reached for him.

Recall that Nkunku scored 35 goals in all competitions for Leipzig in the 2021-22 season and has continued in top form this season.

He has already netted nine goals in 13 games so far this season.

Chelsea appear to have won the race to sign the 24-year-old, with reports initially claiming Nkunku had signed a pre-contract agreement and even undergone a secret medical at Stamford Bridge.

In an interview with BT Sport , the former England international stated that Nkunku will excel if he joins Chelsea.

“He’s powerful, got great technique, can dribble, he can pass, his numbers are good…I think he’s outstanding. Watching him play right now, he looks full of confidence.”

“He’s always been identified as a big talent.

“You can see the confidence and I’m not surprised he’s coming to the Premier League.”

International career
Nkunku was born in France and is of Congolese descent. He was a French youth international, representing the country at under-16, under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels. He made three appearances for the under-20 team at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Nkunku was called up to the senior France squad for the first time for friendly matches against Ivory Coast and South Africa on 25 and 29 March 2022, respectively. He made his debut as a starter in the game against Ivory Coast.

Early life

Christopher Alan Nkunku was born on 14 November 1997 in Lagny-sur-Marne, Seine-et-Marne. He began playing football with AS Marolles as a six-year-old. In 2009, he joined Fontainebleau, where he was spotted by scouts of several professional clubs. Despite his young age and childlike physique, he was noted for “his speed, his technique and his vision of the game”, as recalled by Norbert Boj in 2020, former head of the Fontainebleau football school He would line up in all positions across the midfield, a versatility he, according to another coach at the club, owed to his “technical prowess, obviously, but especially his intelligence of play”.

Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have announced the appointment of former Spanish international Xabi Alonso as their new manager on a two-year deal.

Leverkusen announced Alonso as their new coach on their Twitter handle with the former Liverpool and Real Madrid star replacing Gerardo Seoane.

Speaking on his new appointment Alonso said:”I know Leverkusen as an excellent club from my time in Germany. #Bayer04 has always had great players, I also see a lot of quality in the current squad. This task excites me a lot.”

Alonso takes his first job in management at the top level, having previously worked with the reserve side at Real Sociedad B.

The 2010 World Cup winner got the junior Txuri-Urdin side promoted to the second tier for the first time since the 1960s.

Bayer Leverkusen sit 17th in the Bundesliga, having won just one of their matches, just as in the Champions League.

Alonso will be back in Spain before too long, as Leverkusen travel to face Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks in the Champions League.

He uses his body well when playing with his back to goal, protecting the ball effectively as he tries to bring it under control. Given he can use his strength to secure possession when under pressure, he is also effective in providing his team’s defenders with some respite following a clearance. Haaland’s creativity is most apparent when he drifts into the left inside channel. His primary aim is always to get a shot off, but he also has the vision and skill to pick out a delayed run from midfield in the centre. His ability to carry the ball at pace also helps create for others, especially on the counter-attack.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has insisted that Reece James is better than Trent Alexander-Arnold right now after the Chelsea full-back’s impressive performance against AC Milan in Wednesday’s Champions League tie.

Both players have formed an intense rivalry in a battle for the England right-back spot ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

But James showed why he is currently ahead on Wednesday after scoring one and providing an assist against the Italian champions.

Ferdinand, speaking on BT Sport, suggested James is ahead in the race right now, but didn’t rule out that changing in the near future as Alexander-Arnold bids to return to form.

Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka may have dropped a hint about his future at the club.

Barcelona coach Xavi has revealed that he will be happy to have PSG star, Lopnel Messi at Camp Nou.

AC Milan defender, Fikayo Tomori, has revealed that he feel more motivated to face Chelsea in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge.

According to Tomori, he is now more ruthless in his game since leaving Chelsea last year.

“I kind of knew we would draw Chelsea before the draw came out so the fact it has happened now is really exciting.

North African giants, Algeria and Morocco will present a bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Sunday it has withdrawn the hosting right of the competition from Guinea.

CAF took the decision due to the country’s lack of quality infrastructure and facilities to host the 24-team competition.

Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, recently stated his country and neighbours, Benin Republic were willing to stage Africa’s flagship soccer event.

But they now face stiff competition from the two North African giants.

Algerian Football Federation, Zefizef Djahid has already confirmed that his country will submit a bid to host the competition.

“Algeria has all the capabilities to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations,” Djahid told Egytian club, Kingfut.com.

Morocco are expected to submit a bid to host the competition in the coming days.

Former Chelsea star, William Gallas has criticized Chelsea manager, Graham Potter for using Raheem Sterling in a wrong position.

French Ligue 1 club, Lorient have celebrated Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi’s goal despite Nigeria losing to the Fennec Foxes of Algeria in an international friendly match.

Algeria beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Complex on Tuesday, September 27.

Moffi scored in the ninth minute of the game to give Nigeria an early lead.

However, Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez converted a penalty kick four minutes from the break to level the scores.

A long-range strike from Youcef Atal in the 61st minute won the game for the Fennec Foxes.

Lorient took to their Twitter handle to salute Moffi and to post a 29-second clip of the goal.

“Terem Moffi distinguished himself with the Super Eagles. The opening of the score in the video,” the Tweet reads.

Moffi has scored three goals in eight appearances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. He has scored six goals in eight French Ligue 1 games for Lorient this season.

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa is in a buoyant mood after having a successful surgery on his arm.

Musa sustained an injury in his Turkish Super Lig club, Sivasspor’s 2-1 defeat to Ankaragucu just before the international break.

The injury forced him to miss Nigeria’s international friendly against the Desert Foxes of Algeria.

The 29-year-old took to the social media to show his appreciation.

“I just want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Allah for a successful surgery on my left arm,”Musa posted on his Instagram page.

“As we all know, no surgery is too minor, so I’m grateful for the competent doctors assigned to me for a job well done.

”Also to you all, for your messages, prayers and words of encouragement. I hope to be back on the field soon stronger and absolutely better.” he wrote.

The winger is expected to spend time on the sidelines before returning to action for his club.

“It is possible you lose in football, i’m sad we lost. I don’t like to lose any match but I am very happy with the performance of my players. They did well in the game.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t win the game, but I’m happy with the performance of my players.”

Godwin Saviour and Rapheal Onyedika made their first appearance for the Super Eagles in the game.

Saviour replaced the ineffective Ademola Lookman in the 65th minute, while Onyedika took the place of Frank Onyeka late on.

Peseiro shared his thoughts on the performance of the duo.

“Raphael and Godwin played for the first time with the national team. They did well,”he remarked.

“I called nine players I don’t really know before. Players who have not played with me before but some of them have played with the national team .

“Players we are just working with for the first time. Everybody played. Good job all around.”

The Super Eagles were denied a clear goal in the first half and many also questioned the penalty awarded to the Algerians.

Peseiro stated that the centre referee was wrong to disallow the goal.

“Everybody makes mistake. Myself and the players can make mistake. We scored a goal that was disallowed,”he argued.

“The penalty I could accept. He shoot the ball before Frank caught him. We must accept. There was no offside when we scored. It should have been 2-0 to us at that point.

“My team fought hard created opportunities. Draw would have been a fair result. Congratulations to Algeria.Fantastic atmosphere, good match.

It was a good experience for us. Algerians supported their team. It’s good for us to know where we are and move on from there.”

The former Venezuela and Saudi Arabia gaffer also reflected on his experience with the players in camp.

“I am happy with the camping what I can say is that is not easy to have good understanding, good organisation without training,”Peseiro stated.

“We spent eight days in camp everyone try to do the maximum. You try to input more dynamism, more organisation.

“It was another opportunity to know the players more , know the team generally and the new players. Create more understanding in the team, work more to building cohesion in our game.”

Peseiro also explained where his team need to improve in subsequent games.

“We didn’t do well in attack at times, i think we can do better in that phase. We can improve our game generally. We did well defensively but we can do more offensively. Control the ball more, show more character and fight real hard.

“We need to improve our organisation, put new dynamics. We need to work more . We have quality players but we need to.improve in the area of organization”

The 60-year-old also revealed his desire and targets for the future.

“I am more confident than before, we lost but I have more confident in this team,”Peseiro hinted.

The players must do well in their clubs, my staff see many matches every week.

They watch the players extensively. It’s not easy to he in the national team.

“You need quality, commitment and adapt well too. Sacrifice and have good commitment.

“I’m sad with the result but we did well. We want to win the next AFCON. First, we must qualify and play quality friendly matches and have more camping.

“We want to have a a solid team. We have a good team and we want to improve. Everybody must work together. Myself, my staff and the NFF . We can play at the highest level.”

Head coach of the Desert Foxes of Algeria, Djamel Belmadi, has described the Super Eagles a good team that gave his side a real test in Tuesday’s international friendly in Oran.

The Algerians came from a goal down to win 2-1 and maintain their dominance over the Super Eagles.

“I like what we saw in the second half in midfield. Normally, there is everything you need to have a seat and a way to play. We have what it takes with these three players. They have a half-time lived together. It takes time.

“Today [vs Nigeria] we played players who know each other so the level is improving even against a better team.

England captain, Harry Kane says he’s optimistic the Three Lions will be ready for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar despite having a disappointing performance in the UEFA Nations League.

Recall that England were relegated to the second tier of the tournament despite fighting back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 with Germany last night.

In a chat with Channel 4, the Tottenham striker said that the team should not be judged by their performance in the UEFA Nations League.

Barcelona have confirmed their Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo will undergo surgery on a thigh injury picked up while playing for Uruguay over the international break.

Araujo has opted to go under the knife and is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However Barca have not said how long he will he out for but reports suggest it will be around two to three months.

This could see Araujo miss out on a place in Uruguay’s squad at this year’s World Cup in Qatar in November.

A statement from Barca read:“Ronald Araujo will undergo surgery on Wednesday for the adductor longus tendon avulsion he has in his right thigh. The operation will be carried out by Dr. Lasse Lempainen, under the supervision of the Club’s medical staff, in Turku, Finland.”

Assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong returned to England last Saturday after sustaining an injury in the test game against Algeria’s home-based team.

Midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi spent only two days in camp before returning to his club over a hamstring issue.

The likes of captain Ahmed Musa, Leon Balogun, Samuel Chukwueze and Emmanuel Dennis all pulled out of the game as a result of injury.

The former Venezuela and Saudi Arabia tactician however insisted his side can cope with their absence.

“We believe in the players that are here, we believe in their abilities. They know what to do and we believe in them,”he added.

Boston Celtics have suspended head coach and former D’Tigers forward Ime Udoka for the 2022-23 NBA season after he entered into a relationship with a female member of staff.

Udoka, 45, who led the Celtics to the NBA Finals earlier this year in his first season as a head coach, was suspended for “violations of team policies”.

The team added that a decision about Udoka’s future beyond 2022-23 will be made at a later date.

Assistant coach Joe Mazzulla will be promoted to interim head coach.

Reacting to his suspension Udoka wrote in a statement:”I want to apologise to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organisation and my family for letting them down.

“I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.”

After a seven-year playing career in the NBA, Udoka served as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets before succeeding Brad Stevens as Boston coach in June 2021.

The Celtics won 28 of their final 35 games in the regular season to reach the play-offs and went on to make the NBA Finals for the first time in 12 years, losing 4-2 against the Golden State Warriors.

At the 2006 FIBA World Championships, Udoka led Nigeria in scoring, assists, and steals.

He also played for Nigeria in the 2005 and 2011 FIBA Africa Championships, winning a bronze medal in both tournaments.

He has served as an assistant coach for USA Basketball under his Spurs head coach, Gregg Popovich.

Between the welcome address by Chairman of SWAN, FCT chapter, Bunmi “Blair” Haruna. and the closing remarks by Emmanuel Ogbeche, the candidates addressed critical points raised.

Adam Mouktar Mohammed was quick to highlight his achievements as the FCT FA Chairman when quizzed on his reasons for contesting.

He said, “I have been in the position of the FCT FA Chairman for the last 3 years, and I see myself as a game-changer. We are in the 22nd century where football has evolved into a business, with my experience of developing young players from zero to heroes, I’m very much suitable for the job.”

Mohammed also emphasized picking players from all over the country and helping them through the ranks, from the U-17 to the U-19 to the senior National teams.

“I have invested my time and money for over 20 years, and have gotten my hands dirty, so I know what is needed and what needs to be done. I resigned from my position, came into administration, and in the last 3 years, I can humbly beat my chest and say I am the best performing FA Chairman in the country.

“We came in with the promise that we wanted to develop facilities, and we have done it. We have trained over 120 coaches which you can verify, and have returned the Abuja league to the top in the country. Talking about international cooperation, I have brought Bayern Munich, making a home-grown player to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world. So I understand the business of Football.”

CAF’s Chief Safety & Security Officer, Dr. Christian Emeruwa prides himself in his continental experience.

“I sit currently in a position where I can see what happens in all 54 countries in Africa, and we have what is called the Directorate Review Session every Monday, where we look at the development and progress in each member association,” Emeruwa said while answering questions on why he decided to vie for the position of NFF president.

“Unfortunately, I sit at the meeting weekly and listen to how my country Nigeria is mostly at the bottom. In terms of development programs, progress in capacity building, league performance, and so on, and I said to myself, that in this coming election, I will not be sitting down anymore in the comfort of my office in Cairo, without coming back home to try and vie for the position.

“I consider myself fit for the position because this is my profession. I studied sports from my first degree to my Ph.D. at the University of Port Harcourt, and I also worked within the purview of the NFF for many years, where I was privileged to be in the very engine room that drives the entire process of Nigerian Football, which is the office of the Secretary.”

Emeruwa added: “I have also worked with FIFA since 2015, in a job that has given me the opportunity to support the delivery of different competitions. I have also been able to join CAF to start up a department that was never in existence in the last 60 years of our African Football, and today, within 3-and-a-half years, that department is the second best in the world.”

“I thought that with my wealth of experience and knowing exactly the problems of Nigerian Football, it will be uncharitable to close my eyes, and not come back home to try to contribute.”

Europe’s football governing body UEFA is considering plans to revamp the Super Cup.

According to the Mail, as per Diario AS, the body are considering plans to replace the Supercup with a new four-team tournament, as they seek to increase their income.

The tournament would consist of four teams in similar format to that of the Spanish Supercup currently. The invited teams would consist of the winners of the Champions League, Europa League, the Europa Conference League and MLS.

It would be a summer tournament and there is potential for the matches to be taken out of Europe, as UEFA pursue fresh audiences.

Further discussions are set to take place at the European Club Association’s General Assembly in Istanbul on Thursday and Friday, with the organization keen to foster a spirit of innovation.

From 1972 to 1999, the UEFA Super Cup was contested between the winners of the European Cup/Champions League and the winners of the European/UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

After the discontinuation of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, it has been contested by the winners of the Champions League and the winners of the UEFA Cup, which was renamed the Europa League in 2009.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed Emmanuel Dennis pulled out of Nigeria’s friendly against Algeria as a result of injury.

Dennis was called up as replacement for the injured Adana Demirspor winger, Henry Onyekuru but he couldn’t honour the invitation for the same reason.

There were reports Dennis intentionally rejected the invitation but Nottingham Forest have now provided an update on his health status.

“Taiwo Awoniyi has both been called up to the Nigeria squad for their friendly against Algeria on Tuesday 27th September, 8pm kick-off UK time.Emmanuel Dennis, meanwhile, has withdrawn due to injury,”reads a statement on the club’s official website.

The 24-year-old linked up with the Reds this summer fron Sky Bet Championship club, Watford.

The team had their first training session in Constantine on Monday night before traveling to Oran.

The North Africans will continue their preparation for the game on Wednesday at the ground.

The two-time African champions will take on the Syli Stars of Guinea in their first friendly on Friday.

They will then face the Super Eagles four days later at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium, Oran.
