A pair of conjoined baby boys are expected to make a full recovery after being successfully separated in a nine-hour operation in Saudi Arabia over the weekend. A team of surgeons, led by the country's former Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, completed the difficult procedure in Riyadh.

Before the operation surgeons had said the boys had 60 to 70 percent chance of survival, but according to new reports both babies, named Abdullah and Abdulrahman, are doing very well.

The verbal assaults between Femi Fani-Kayode, director of media and publicity for the PDP presidential campaign organisation, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a new turn on Monday.

Reacting to the criticisms directed at him for insinuating that Yemi osibanjo, the running mate to APC’s presidential candidate, was planning to step down for Bola Tinubu, Fani-Kayode pointed accusing fingers at Tinubu over the death of Funsho Williams.
Williams, a gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, was murdered under controversial circumstances on July 27, 2006. “I do not believe in violence and I do not threaten people neither do any of my boys or any of those behind me,” Fani-Kayode wrote on Facebook. “Tinubu should not start this. I am not Funso Williams. I cannot be killed like a chicken. I cannot be destroyed. I cannot be taken before my time.
My name is Femi Fani-Kayode, and nobody can kill me before my time. Nobody can cut me short. “I harbor no fear of violence but I do not take threats lightly. Neither do I fear for my life; because I have never shed innocent blood and because I do not believe in violence or worship the devil, the angel of the Lord will strike dead any person or any group of persons that seek to take my life or the life of any of my loved ones.”

The Chief of Army Staff, Kenneth Minimah, a lieutenant general, has assured that more territories currently under the Boko Haram sect would soon be captured and the war against terror won.
He also disclosed that the successes recorded by the military in the last few days were as a result of joint operations between Nigerian forces and their Cameroon, Chad and Niger counterparts.
Mr. Minimah said this at the opening of a five-day seminar for the operational level officers of the Nigerian Army by the British Military Advisory ‎and Training Team held at Jaji Military Cantonment, Tuesday in Kaduna.
“At the end of the seminar, the Nigerian Army is expected to generate more capacity to gain more, recover more territories and it will help our army to perform better and be more professional,” he said.
“It is gratifying to note that our drive in retraining ‎in conjunction with the valued partnership is beginning to yield greater results. The ongoing counter-terrorists campaign in the North-East coupled with the awakening of Cameroon, Chad and Niger forces has boosted our successes leading to the liberation of more communities hitherto under siege of Boko Haram terrorists.”
He, however, expressed optimism that the seminar would further strengthen the longstanding partnership between the Nigerian and British armies.
The leader of the British Military Advisory ‎and Training Team, Jonny Bourne, a brigadier general, said the world was currently facing a new wave of security challenges, therefore, the earlier the armies of nations around the world begin to learn from one another, the better.
Mr. Bourne, who is also the commander, British 7th Infantry Brigade, however, expressed optimism that at the end of the seminar, valuable ideas would be generated to tackle the security threats around the world and Nigeria in particular.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said that utmost care was being taken by the Federal Government to avoid collateral damage to the lives and properties of civilians in the battle against Boko Haram.
He made the remark while receiving the new South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Noh Kyu-Duk, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to him, everything possible was being done by the military to avoid human rights violations in the theatre of operations in the Northeast.
He said: “We are sticking to international best practices in prosecuting the war against terrorism and doing our best to ensure that we don’t have cases of human rights abuses in the Northeast.
“We are consistently monitoring the situation and have investigated previous reports of such abuse which were mostly blown out of proportion for political reasons.
“Our military has a reputation for discipline and we have insisted on that discipline and control for the safety of civilians in the Northeast.
“The purpose of the entire operation is to save our people from the brutal tyranny of Boko Haram, so we cannot tolerate human rights abuses or willfully impose further suffering on them.’’
He also told Mr. Kyu-Duk that Nigeria’s entire security architecture was being reviewed, restructured and strengthened to ensure greater safety for Nigerians and foreign workers in all parts of the country.
“We are inviting all our friends in the international community, particularly those that are more technologically advanced, to complement our efforts to build a more secure and prosperous country in which our people and foreigners can live in peace and safety,” he stated.
The President urged Mr. Kyu-Duk and his Indonesian counterpart, Mr. Harry Purwanto, who was also at the Presidential Villa to present his letters of credence, to work for the strengthening of existing trade and economic relations between Nigeria and their countries.
The new ambassadors thanked President Jonathan for receiving them and assured him that they will do their best to promote stronger economic and cultural relations between their countries and Nigeria during their tenure in Abuja.

Till date, people still talk about the role veteran actor Jibola Dabo played in a soft-porn movie, “Dirty Secret” that starred himself, Tonto Dikeh, late Muna Obiekwe, Geraldine Ejiogu, Ejine Okerefor, among other acts.
In the movie, Tonto Dikeh acted the role of a spoilt child, who sleeps with her father and her boyfriend. Her father, played by Jibola Dabo, was a gynandrous, who also sleeps with his daughter’s boyfriend played by Muna Obiekwe.
When the movie was released, fans tongue-lashed the three major acts who played their roles like a smut movie. And now, in a new interview with PUNCH, Jibola has confessed that he regrets playing that role. Jibola told PUNCH:
I hate to advertise for any movie and I believe every movie I have been a part of has been challenging in several ways. However, the movie that I had to put extra effort is also the movie I hate the most, ‘Dirty Secrets.’ I played a role that is totally different from who I am in reality. I hate the character I
played and for me to do it well, I had to become the character. I had to hate myself while doing so. It was bad. After the movie, I had to keep telling myself that the character I portrayed was not who I am.


• Have you watched the movie?

I don’t want to see it. I have been asked if I could play such a role again and I told them ‘yes’ but only if I have access to the post-production stage. There are some things that should have been edited in the movie that were not removed. There are some things an actor would do to make his acting real that should be edited but they released the movie like that. It was so raw and it was terrible for them to put everything out there.


• You acted alongside the late Muna Obiekwe in the movie you’re talking about…

I felt sad about it. But the young man had been sad for a while because he had been careless about his health. He drank too much alcohol and he didn’t remember that he had a liver. He was also a chain smoker, but of course, there are also people that do it and live longer. I was saddened that we had lost another star because he was a great actor.


• How come you openly support polygamy; is it because your father was one?

No. It is because I am not a hypocrite. A lot of Nigerians are hypocrites, especially the educated ones. When you have a wife and several concubines, it is worse than being a polygamist. When polygamy was accepted in our society, we did not have as many diseases as we do have because you would bring the wife home. What I said was that I do not have anything against polygamy; however, do not confuse fornication and adultery with polygamy.


• Why are you not a polygamist then?

People actually think I am a polygamist. I am not one because I love deeply. When I fall in love, I like to show off my woman. People think I am a polygamist because I have children from different women.


• How come you have children from different women?

Growing up, I was notorious with ladies and they were notorious with me as well. During that time, girls had this perception that they could tie you down if they got pregnant for you. It happened to me with different girls because I was very popular and good looking. The girls kept coming to me. Also, there was the lack of knowledge of protection. When I grew up, I met kids that I fathered and did not know because their mothers did not tell me that they were pregnant.


• Which means that some women came to you only with the interest of having a child?

Yes, it is very true. People misjudge me now because of that. If a girl went through what I faced as a child, the experience would be tagged as child abuse. I had older ladies come to me for sex as a young man. It was child abuse, but nobody was focusing on child abuse for boys back then. Instead, people prefer to judge me. I would not be talking about this now if I am not grown and have more understanding.


• But you could have turned down their advances.

I could not have turned them down, because my feeding depended on that ‘aunty.’ It happened when I stayed with relatives. Some of their female friends liked me and made me do things a young boy should not indulge in.


• You dated popular actress, Ayo Mogaji, at some point in your life. What went wrong with the relationship?

I would say that the media made a pool out of a tea cup. She was my girlfriend in the 80s and when I returned to Nigeria, she was still unmarried. I funded a movie for her and we started dating again. She got pregnant for me and that was it. The media began to say that her husband abroad had come back home. I never got married to her; neither did I go to her parents to ask for her hand in marriage. She was my girlfriend and she got pregnant and I could not ask her to abort the baby. I was old enough to have a child, so I had no objections. I love my son a lot and now she has her husband.


• But why did you not get married to her?

Our lifestyles were not the same.


• Some believe you did not get married to her because it was reported that she normally got drunk at home.

No, it is not true. She was like that even before I came back to Nigeria. I had known her for about three decades and she had always been like that. That is her style. I read in the papers after she left me where she said, ‘I drink, get drunk and smoke, so what?’ It was on the front page. So if I could not take that, I would let her go.


• But as her lover, don’t you think you could have helped change her lifestyle?

Yes. But also include over 20,000 Nigerians dead, Communities destroyed, Business scattered, Families separated, millions of Nigerians displaced. There are not the Boko Haram fighters oooh, but innocent Nigerians caught on the crossfire, Why? Because President Jonathan did not tackle the issue head long for more than 5yrs. He just reserved it as a last minute efforts to boost his reelection chances.

This is a very big failure on the part of Jonathan. All he is doing now could have been done in the first year even when Boko Haram were smaller. Rather he turned a blind eye and wished it away. If he was not looking failure in the face in this elections, would he has swigged into action?

Jonathan must go. The way he hsndle the proplems of Nigeria is unacceptable.

ASUU, Polytechnics, Health workers, Judicial workers, etc. Their cases are unresolved. If Jonathan can get votes from through them, you will see him having a marathon meetings with them, but guess what, it does not care because it does not threaten him yet.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Prof. Wale Oladipo, on Tuesday said former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s party membership card which was torn on his instruction was an expired one.

He made this known in Abuja while receiving some student union leaders under the aegis of Student Mobilisation Network Group (SMNG).

Oladipo explained that the torn card was the one issued by the party’s former acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Barage, and ‎not the one issued by its current leadership.

NAN recalls that Obasanjo had while hosting the executive members of PDP in his ward in his Abeokuta home that he ordered the Chairman of the party in the ward, Alhaji Usman Oladunjoye, to tear the card.

“Baba is 80 and my mother is around Obasanjo’s age and when you reach that age, you do things that only you can explain.

“Secondly, you will see that Baba did not tear our card.

“He asked somebody to do the tearing and I am assuring you that the card that was torn was not the current PDP card.

“The current PDP card is signed by Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and Prof. Wale Oladipo; so, the card he tore was a Barage card, which we are going to destroy after all,” he said.

On the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Oladipo said that Buhari was not qualified to be president of the country.

He said that while President Goodluck Jonathan had insisted on crushing act of insurgents in the country, the APC presidential candidate said he would bring Boko Haram under control.

Earlier, the leader the students group, Tekun Olanrewuju, said they were at PDP’s secretariat to pledge allegiance to its leadership and to give their support to Jonathan’s re-election bid.

He added that the students were supporting the PDP because they realised that the political future of Nigerian youths lay in the party.

Olanrewuju, who is the National Coordinator of the group, stressed that the achievement of Jonathan in all sectors of the nation’s economy qualified him for a second term.

He called on the PDP leadership to utilise the 5,000 students in University of Abuja, who had collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to its advantage.

Pandemonium broke lose as some men of the Nigeria Army from the 31 Artillery Brigade on Tuesday invaded the Hill Top Model Secondary School, Minna, the Niger State capital.

The army officer and his subordinates invaded the school few hours after the students’ daily assembly, holding teachers and students hostage. They disrupted academic activities for the whole day. They whisked away a student believed to be an officer’s girlfriend.

It was gathered that the officers and men who stormed the school premises were armed with AK 47
riffles. They arrived in a Mitsubishi Hilux pickup, with registration number: 31 AB 035 NA.
The Eagle Online further gathered that the soldiers came on the invitation of one Umar Alhassan, a civilian, who happens to be a friend of one of the Army officers who removed the tags bearing their names because of their “unofficial” presence in the school.

A teacher with the school, Mohammed Mamud said that at about 8am, Alhassan, wearing military fatigue, drove into the school in a black Nissan Jeep, with registration number: Niger AA 551 KUG.
Mamud said Alhassan came on the invitation of one Farida Mustapha, a Senior Secondary School female student of the school, who was punished by a teacher over an offence.

He explained that the teacher was having a lesson with Farida’s class when an unknown student used an abusive language. And since nobody owned up to the misbehaviour, the teacher punished the whole class, including Farida.

The teacher confirmed that Alhassan came to the school to intimidate the teacher over the general punishment involving his girlfriend, Farida.

Also speaking, the Principal of the School, Bala Mohammed, said:

“Umar Alhassan drove into the school in a reckless way.
“We thank God that the students were not on break, else he would have knocked at least one down.
“I cannot talk to journalists now until I get permission from the state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Danladi Abdulhameed.
“But I have invited the Zonal Inspector and he is on the way to the school to see things for himself.”
When the Zonal Inspector, Mohammed Gambo, arrived, he told newsmen that he was at the school to investigate the incident before briefing them.

According to Gambo: “We will do our best to get to the root of the matter, I assure you.”
The army officers and men who refused to talk to journalists hurriedly put Alhassan in their vehicle and drove away.

All efforts to reach the Public Relations officer of the 31 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Minna proved abortive. His phone was not going through as at the time of filing this report, reports online news portal, The Eagle Online.

ABAKALIKI- Tragedy struck at Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital following a fire outbreak at the state House of Assembly in the early hours of Tuesday.
The fire Vanguard gathered started in the Accounts department and spread to the media section of the Assembly complex.
The fire according to a source, destroyed some property including sensitive documents of the House.
As at the time of this report, policemen with Amoured Personnel Carrier, APC were seen stationed at the gate of the Assembly complex as journalists and other workers were not allowed into the complex.
