Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has blamed the controversies trailing the certificate and educational qualifications of the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on the inefficiency of the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

There have been controversies that the APC presidential candidate had left out details of his primary and secondary schools in the CF 01 INEC form he filled for the 2023 elections.

Uzodimma said there would have been no controversy on the certificates of Tinubu if the Commission had a functional server.

The governor, who spoke to journalists after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, however, expressed optimism that the issues around Tinubu’s certificate would be resolved.

He said, “All the things so mentioned are entire party challenges that will be resolved. But for my presidential candidate, the issue of certificates shouldn’t even arise.

“In 1999, he contested elections and became the governor of Lagos. In 2003, he contested election for a second term and became governor of Lagos.

“He ran and won as a Senator in the country. Were records keeping efficient, and INEC server functional, he (Tinubu) wouldn’t need to do fresh submission (of documents).

“However, if whatever he is supposed to submit is not handy, it is not late yet. I’m sure before time he will submit whatever is required of him.

“What do you mean by difficulty? Who told you? The deadline is not yet here until the period of submission is over and we are not able to put a running mate; that is the only way you can ask this kind of question.

“I appreciate your concern, but be rest assured that we will fill a complete ticket for the presidential contest,” he added.

While speaking on the wave of senators leaving the ruling party, Uzodimma said, “Did some leave the party or are leaving the party?

“Until they leave… but for those few who left, of course, there are some others who left other parties and joined the APC. So, one cancels the other.

Recall that the APC presidential candidate had said he swore to an affidavit that his certificates went missing when was forced to go on exile from October 1994 to October 1998.

VICE Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, and leaders of the party, yesterday said that LP Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi; and his New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP counterpart, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are still in talks to field a joint ticket for the 2023 presidential poll.

In separate chats with Vanguard, LP National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure; Spokesman, Dr. Yinusa Tanko; and Okupe said both parties are still discussing the plan of forming a mega alliance that will win the presidential poll in 2023.

Disclosing that the plan is to form a mega alliance, Abure said both parties are “consulting widely to make the alliance a huge success.”

Abure, who urged the INEC to extend the ongoing voters registration beyond June 30 as ordered by an Abuja Federal High Court, on Monday, said: “INEC should not disenfranchise Nigerians. It has the responsibility of ensuring that everyone of age gets his or her PVC (permanent voters’ card). Before Mr Peter Obi emerged as presidential candidate many people did not think there was a need to vote. There was hopelessness and despair in the polity. With Obi’s emergence, people now have hope and have seen the need to get the PVC. The INEC should ensure that these masses of people get their PVCs.”

Insisting that the talks and consultations are on-going, Dr Okupe said that the Labour Party and NNPP have agreed to form a new political order in the country but are yet to reach an agreement on which party will produce the presidential candidate.

According to him, both parties are in talks to beat the July 17 deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for substitution of candidates.

He said: “We have not foreclosed on anything. What has happened is that there have been a lot of informal discussions and interventions on the merger. There have been a lot of third party interventions on this same issue.

“Officially, I have been involved in two meetings in two different locations where we discussed extensively. I can tell you authoritatively that I have spoken with Rabiu Kwankwaso on this matter.



“We have agreed to cooperate together as two different parties to enthrone a new political order in this country. We also agreed on working together politically and to constitute a platform on which a national grand alliance can be built in pursuit of the same goal.

“We have not reached an agreement on the issue of whether the North will be the president or the South will be the president because both sides are insisting on being the arrowhead of the union in terms of presidency. This is where we have not really agreed. As of today, that is where we stand but there are a lot of goodwill ambassadors working behind the scene.

“The options are still open. We have up till July 17 or so to take a final decision but the options are still open. We have not foreclosed on anything.”

On NNPP saying that Kwankwaso has not agreed to be Obi’s running mate, he said: “I am surprised about that and I have tried to reach out. It is something that is a bit too early. We have direct access and we are talking officially and unofficially. I heard the information but I have not been able to confirm it.”

Also confirming the talks between LP and NNPP, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Dr Yinusa Tanko, told Vanguard: “Discussions are ongoing. We have realized that none of us can do this alone. We have agreed on the basic principle that we are going to work together. The alliance is needed to rescue the country from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The question of who will be the presidential candidate or vice presidential candidate will be decided by Mr. Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.”

No fewer than 15,000 youths and women from northern Nigerian state of Nasarawa have vowed to support the presidential ambition of Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election.
Speaking to newsmen in Lafia on Sunday, the State Southern Zonal Chairman of Peter Obi Candidacy Movement, Victor Laka, explained that the youths decided to support the former Anambra State governor because of his leadership qualities.

Laka further said that the group, with members from across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, was tired of politicians from other political parties who kept lying to the masses of providing good governance during electioneering campaigns but ended up disappointing them. He noted that it was the reason they decided to support the Labour Party to produce Obi as President in 2023.
He said, “As youths who want the progress of Nigeria, we are tired of all the politicians who keep deceiving us that they will provide good governance. Life has become so difficult for the youths because we have bad leaders and that is what we are trying to correct in 2023.

“So far, 15,000 youths have registered with our support group, the Peter Obi Candidacy Movement, and more have indicated interest to join us in the struggle to rescue our nation from the corrupt politicians who do not mean well for us.
“Our universities have been closed for many months now but they are not worried because their children do not attend Nigerian schools. Such leaders are not supposed to continue piloting the affairs of this nation, that is why we are supporting Peter Obi of the Labour Party to emerge as president.

“We have great confidence in him because he did very well in Anambra State while he was governor. We believe he will do better if he is elected as president of Nigeria in 2023. So, we are urging all Nigerians who are yet to get their Permanent Voter Cards to do so immediately in order for us to vote in credible leaders to office in the coming elections.”

On his part, the State Chairman of Labour Party, Alexander Emmanuel said over 50 support groups had visited the state secretariat to declare support for Peter Obi since he emerged as presidential candidate of the party.

He expressed confidence that the party would win the 2023 presidential election and all elective positions in Nasarawa State, adding that the citizens were tired of bad governance at both the national and state levels.



He said, “In Nasarawa State, over 50 support groups have indicated interest to support Peter Obi and the party in the coming elections. Nigerians are tired of bad governance, that is why they are coming to declare support for our candidate.

“The leaders of other political parties know the antecedents of Peter Obi. They are scared of him but whether they like it or not, he will be our next president in 2023 because the people have spoken their minds.
“We will also win the governorship election in Nasarawa State so that our people can enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“With the kind of support we are getting, I am certain that Labour Party candidates will win their elections with a landslide in 2023.”
