ladionline: I'm laughing at macof now, your somalia passport is on process! take it as my ogunxmas present to you. btw, Somalia king and yusuf, pagan9ja and all contributors, this is a wonderful thread. We can get to know people from the neighbourhood more and make good friendship across culture divides. I have not seen god or spirit in my life, but people i see daily are gods and words and post i read daily are spirits, having open mind is the threshold of the true religion, 'brotherhood of man'. This religion is live on this particular thread. who knows that somethimg like this can come from Ajuran's homeland. love is good hate is bad. thanx yo all.You are 100% right i made this post to apologize in the name of our people because most somalis are not racist against the other africans, people like "ajuran" are a shame for our country abd for Africa Because while west african and east africans hate each other the white western nationz and asians are stealing out wealth I think that nigeria, south africa, botswana, ghana, kenya, ethiopia and even somalia if the war stops can help the whole african continent to develop Somalia is considered a failed state but even if we have war and terrorism our country wealth grows 3% every year much more than many European countries .....botswana growth is amazing...12% every year I think that if africans unite abd start helping each other we can change Africa....i am just kid...i am 18 i was born in 1996 i don't know much about the world...but i know cooperation and frienship is the solutione for africa All africans abroud should return back home to help our land Like bob marley said "Africa unite, cause we are moving right out of Babylon and we are goimg to our fathers land"

macof: Ok. I understand, different people with different mind setWell somalis accept people who practice their religion in private but pagan religion would be wierd....somalis are more used to see christians and jews |
macof: Lets say I choose to migrate to Somalia, I get an apartment and construct an altar dedicated to the primordial forces of my Yoruba tradition.Probably bad...people will be angry...not because you are youruba but because the dont like pagan stuff...even if it was christian or jew they will be angry.....most somalis are very devote muslims they will nof accepte even our old pre islamic religion to be practiced.....anyway i think that everyone should be free to practice his religion or to be atheist |
hmm.......some say they are first Somali aboriginal settlers.
Well the aboriginal settlers if northeb somalia are the modern day somalis...the center and the south was inhabited by ormos, bantus and bushmen like peoples ....somalis gradually migrated south abd occupied modern day somalia |
macof: Somali king You never answered my questionWhat question? Sorry i probably did not see it..can you repeat? |
Adamskuty: Somalia..king,is it true that somalis only began having bantu slaves during the 18th to 19th century?Well they started in the 15th century...but we have to distinguish north central.somalis who were nomads and have no interest in having slaves while southern somalis established some muslim sultanates and traded with the arabs of oman....the arabs sold them slaves from tanzania Somalis used them in plantations Bantu have a reputation of hard working people In the 19th centuries most bantus were freed or escaped because the somali sultanates were forced ti abolish slavery by the europeans |
I read that Yibir and Madhiban speak a different Somali dialect than the rest and that they keep this as a secret from other clans. Also I heard the Yibir practice magic, amulets, etc. Does this point to the older Somali religion? we dont know.
Thats true they speak standard somali but also have a strange dialect and nobody can undrestand it Yibir are belived to be jews from the falasha community in ethiopia but they are muslim now....they are famous for the magic practise |
I have a friend who is Isaaq, Saád Musa. btw isnt Dir different from Isaaq?
Well Dir is a group of various sub clans....isaaq is the biggest dir subclan most isaaq claim to descend from sheikh isaaq who came from present day iraaq to somalia in the 10th century...but this is probably a legend....isaaqs are dirs and descend from irir Samaali ....so in politics isaaqs are grouped with dir but they always act as an independent clan |
Also is there any cultural differences between the different clans? or any differences for that matter?
Well the 4 major clans have the same language and culture the only different group are the bantus who speak af maay(a somali dialect) and mushunguli(their original bantu language) |
no there are some of us as well.
I love nasiib bundo figure because he was a hero...there were many ethnic somalis whi where collaborating with the italians while he was a former slave and fought for our country Bantu somalis are good people.....the whole civil war issue is because ethnic somalis are too proud if their clan.....bantus are the only group who doesn't participated in the civil war fightings |
Adamskuty: wow! Interesting. And we had a bantu women as family and minority people rights minister in the former administration 2008-2012 Bantu people have the same rights as any somali...sometimes they are treated bad but there are some pure somali looking smal clans like Midgaans who are even treated worst than bantu During siad barre rule calling somebody slave because he was bantu was illegal and punishible with prison |
Adamskuty: wow! Interesting. No somali politics is related ti clan and bantus rapresent only 5% of the population traditionaly the president is from the hawiye clan and the prime minister is darood There are 4 major clans in somalia Darood,Dir,Hawiye and Rahanweyn Currently the president of somalia is Hawiye the prime minister is darood the minister of foreign affairs is Dir(isaaq) and the head of the parlament is rahanweyn Anyway we have the minister of infrastructure who is Bantu somali Bantu somalis and arab mixed somalis are categorized as Beelaha shanaad or minorities We also have a Bantu national hero named Nasiib Bundo who fought against the italian colonization...he was a former slave on a plantation he escaped his somali masters and settled in the shabelle.regiom with his people....he was a brave man and a devote muslim he is one of our national heroes many schools are named after him There is a small city in jubbaland somali region wich is named Nasiib bundo |
Adamskuty: is they a somali president among the 3 men Adamskuty: is they a somali president among the 3 menStartung from the left Mohamed Siyad Barre president of somalia, Julius Nyerere president of Tanzania and Samora Machela.leader of the mozambiquan liberation army This is another pi of Siyaad Barre He is a pure somali from the darood marehan clan

macof: I agree Somalis are our brothers by racial grouping that is....however you Somalis have a stronger allegiance with Arabs than you can ever have with the larger part of Africa. You just dont know Somalis....somalis respect arabs because the prophet was an arab but most somalis actually dislike arabs As i said here in italy when i needed some information to go to some offices i always asked to senegales guys who sell stuff in the streets of Milan....this because most if my somali friends told me that you can trust black people in italy while arabs have a reputation of drunk rapists and robbers Senegalese people are true muslim and most of them are better than the arab moroccabs and tunisians Anyway somalis dont like foreigners wether they are black or arab or white And when we had a good functioning governement during the Siyad barre regime the somali gov was close friend with mozambique and angola Our governement supported the struggle if black people in south africa and zimbabwe There is a somali song called "midab gumeysi diida" in support oc the struggle of the african nation still under the colonial rule Siyad barre sent money and aid to the liberation movments of mozambique and angola against the portoguese Here is siyad barre with mozambique president Samora Machel an Julius nyerere president if Tanzania Siyad barre is the first on the left LOOK AT THIS PHOTO...I SEE 3 BLACK AFRICANS LEADER ...
^^^^^^^^^I guess the "Arab admixture" is mostly with Banadiri/reer xamar groups.
Yes benadiri reer xamar people have mixed blood you can find many tipes of benadiri some are almost arab looking, some look like regular somalis and some look bantu Some of the benadiris have light complezion and big nose and full lips but in most of the cases they look like the other somali All somali clans have an arab ancestor linked to prophet mohamed family....i am from the darood clan, the legend says that Darood ismail jabarti was an arab sheikh whi descended fro the prophet and came to somalia in the 10th Century.....he is burried in Haylan in northen somalia Probably these are all legends created because the people wanted to be linked with the prophets so it is just for religion Somalia is in the arab league just because Siyad barre our former president wanted support from the other muslim states But genetically speaking somalis are a unique etnic group of the Horn of Africa And anyway everybody is mixed many arabs have african blood And also many african americans have white blood but they are still blck Eveb hausa and fulani have a litle admixture |
True ofcourse.
There are many somalis on the somali forums that want to return to the ancient monotheistic cushitic religion of Waaq They feel like they are colonized by arab culture and they say they worship waaq just because they hate arabs and they do that for folklore I mean it is just like neonazi germans who return to paganism or iranians who return to Zoroastrism They do not really belive un those religion they just say "i am pagan" because they wabt to free themselves from jewish based religion like judaism christuanity and islam |
yousuf12: Boqorka, soo dhawow saxeeb midko Ajuran esku shegayo baa meeshan malin kasta dadkaan ku ceynayo.Saaxib mahadsanid waxaan arkay dad soomaali oo si xun u hadlaya oo cunsur ku ah dadka naijerianka Wallahi wa wax aad looga xumaado wadankeena waa burbursanyahay jareertuna wadankooda nabad baa ka jirta marka waaxa weye in waax aan ka barano |
macof: Pagan 9jaWe have a little arab admixture but we are mainly cushitic....for example also swahili speaking people in kenya are muslim and have some arab blood but they are still BLACK with bantu origin the same for southern italians and spanish people some of them have little arab admixture but they ate still Whites Anyway i know that somalia and nigeria have different cultures and languages but it does not mean that we have to hate each other So we are african brothers and we should help our continent to develop Africa is a very diverse continent even within cushiti people there are difference Somalis can not undrestand Oromo language except for a few words same for Afar language even though both these languages are cushitic Oromo has many amharic words and Somali has many arabic words Anyway WE ARE NOT ARAB we share some similarities with arabs because of religion but we are not arab
|
Fulaman198: I think often people mistake religion for culture and tradition. They are different.Even somali muslims and arab muslim are different There are many differences even within the arab world Saudis are different from tunisians or moroccans |
and practice it.
Well as a muslim i think that islam is the true religion for the whole world |
Ok That is nice. I created a thread on Somali Traditional Religion before: https://www.nairaland.com/1541715/somali-religion-mythology#19972874 Im a Pagan, though Im from the largely Muslim North. islam was spread to my homeland and many of my fellow tribesmen by force, under the islamic jihad of Usuman Dan Fodio. My aim is to spread Traditional Religion back across Nigeria. We have already gained a few reverts. It is a growing religion in some parts of Nigeria today.
Well i think that is important for africans to learn about their history and their traditions |
Vessi: Damn such a touching story and picture. As africans we have to unite against the exploitation of our lands no matter if you are Nigerian, sudani, ghanian, egyptian, arab or somali we have the same problems Poverty Corruption inequality No jobs terrorism Debt And if we want ti solve our problems we have to take arms against the capitalist neocolonization and follow the ideas of our freat leaders such aS Thomas Sankara,Nelson Mandela,Lumumba,N'Krumah,Samora Machel and many others |
As a Somali, what is your opinion on African Traditional Religion? Many Nigerians practice it.
I am a muslim but i do respect traditional religions Somalis before islam used to worship Waaq a sky god similar to the egyptian god Horus....however in somali religion Waaq was the only god it was a monotheistic religion Anyway i respect traditional religion... |
Hi everyone I am a somali guy and i saw many somali trolls here on this forum insulting nigerians and other african people.....i felt.so so sorry for those ugly comments made by other somalis like me True somalis dont behave like that....true somalis dont hate africans....cause we are BLACK and african Somalis are.a different etnic group we have different features and different culture...but we are.still africans and black I live in italy and when i came to Milan there were very few somalis in the city,so when i needed some informations to go to some place i always asked to black people ...most of my non somali friends are senegalese and nigerians Racism is everywhere Most somalis are not racist..and the few ones who are racist hate everyone who is not somali not just "bantus" I felt ashamed when i saw somalis calling bantus monkeys n this forum Racist people in europe actually dont care if im a somali and if i have small nose an thin lips...they consider me a negro just like any other african So i say AFRICA UNITE White people will not divide us
