Properties › Re: Borehole Experts, Please Help Me Interpret This Survey Report And Drilling Quote by somethinggood(m): 4:50pm On Mar 08 |
99thEnemy: Good day everyone.
I need advice from people here who have real experience with borehole drilling.
I carried out a geophysical survey on my plot this month, March 2026 , to determine the best location for a borehole. The survey suggested two possible spots: Point 2 and Point 6, and the recommended drilling depth for both spots is 160 meters.
However, from my layman understanding of the report, it seems like water may be available at a shallower depth than 160m. I may be wrong, which is why I am posting here for expert interpretation.
Attached is the survey image so that those who understand these readings can help explain whether 160m is truly necessary or whether water can reasonably be gotten at a lower depth, especially at Point 2 or Point 6.
I was given the following drilling quotations:
₦17,000 per meter using 8 bar PVC casing ₦18,000 per meter using 8 bar PVC casing
I was told that the difference between the ₦17,000 and ₦18,000 rates is the casing thickness, although the exact diameter and wall thickness were still not stated clearly.
I was also given another quote of:
₦24,000 per meter using 10 bar PVC casing
But again, the diameter and wall thickness were not stated.
I also asked how much it would cost if they do only the drilling/punching, while I buy and supply the casing myself. I was told that drilling/punching only would cost ₦14,000 per meter for the 160m depth.
I want to ask the experts here:
1. Looking at the survey image, does it truly mean I need to drill to 160m at Point 2 or Point 6, or is it possible to get good water at a lower depth? I recommend you drill at point 6 and drill to maximum depth of 150m plus or minus 10m.
2. Am I misreading the report where it seems water can be found earlier? Water can be found along different points but point 6 has a better yield advantage cos the wall can be recharged even from 60m. U can even choose to terminate your drilling at 60m and you will be fine just for personal usage.
3. Does a recommendation of 160m usually mean that is where the best aquifer is, where the cleanest water is, or that shallower water may not be reliable? The recommended depth here will ensure that your borehole yield can be moderate to high yield and you shouldn't have any fear of seasonal variations.
4. Between 8 bar and 10 bar PVC casing, which one is more suitable for a 160m borehole? Will they do a full casing? What is your terrain? This factor should determine an answer to this but and also depending on the type of pump to be used and risers to be attached
5. Since I was told the difference between the ₦17,000 and ₦18,000 per meter quotes is thickness, what exact thickness should I be asking for? Just get a good PVC screen/case
6. What exact PVC casing specification should I be asking for: diameter, wall thickness, pressure rating, screen/slotted pipe spec, and brand/manufacturer? For a depth of 160m, use atleast HDPE PE100 PN10 pipe and install a 2hp submersible pump.
7. Is it a red flag for a driller to mention only 8 bar or 10 bar, and say one is thicker, without stating the exact diameter and wall thickness? Use 10bar please else your riser pipe will burst inside the well. Don't go for popular brands as most have been counterfeited. Let him get a reliable pipe.
8. If I decide to buy the casing myself, what exact specification should I request so I do not buy the wrong one?
9. Apart from casing, what other materials would I need to provide if I go with drilling only/punching only? Casing, risers, submersible pump, valves, joint kit, wires, ropes, etc
10. Is ₦14,000 per meter for punching only not unreasonable? Whats your location? If you are within Abuja, I can drill at 12k per meter for u. Depending on if diesel price remains as it is at the moment.
11. Is it better to let the driller supply everything, or is it safer to buy the casing/materials myself? You may leave d driller to handle everything with an agreement that should there be a failure due to substandard materials, he will replace it.
12. Between Point 2 and Point 6, which location looks more suitable based on the survey? Point 6 and all my references above has to do with point 6.
13. What other questions should I ask before agreeing to drill? What is the yield of the well? Ensure to use good materials and good submersible pump and also risers.
I do not want to make a costly mistake, so I would really appreciate advice from people who understand borehole drilling and casing specifications well.
Thank you.

I wont blame Fubara because he has his ambitions.
That said, at the end of the day, Tinubu will win his reelection come 2027. I must confess he is a better President compared to Buhari.
My only concern with Tinubus presidenvy is that we are making more money but the people especially federal staff are still suffering and contractor payments are being witheld. |

Stop defending what is Bad! She erred in all ramifications. As the first responder, show empathy, even if you wont do it because you feel you are too big to save a life cos its not your duty, call the subordinate you feel is beneath you to do it. I insist she did everything wrong! Jman06: Definitely not to lift a hefty victim off the car and onto stretchers and then pushing into the ward. Porters are responsible for that job not nurses nor doctors. Imagine a female nurse or doctor being expected to lift such a victim!
Let's learn how to channel our anger to the right people (ie government) who fail to employ enough hands to man our hospitals! |

Bros, Atiku Supporters no dey this shallow. Stop spewing nonsense. The only mistake she made was to engage thean videoing in argument. She should have walked away and go to call the attention of the appropriate personnel. |
Health › Re: Abuja Nurses And Doctors To Face Panel Over Abandonment Of Accident Victim by somethinggood(m): 2:10pm On Jun 11, 2025 |
What is the duty of a nurse in an Accident and Emergency unit of a federal medical centre if i may ask u? I pray may Nigeria not happen to you. Nonsense! Jman06: Honestly, it is not the nurse's duty to lift the accident victims off the car and into the hospital ward.
That incident underscores the gross shortage of staff in our public hospitals. JOHESU and other groups have been calling for increased employment of staff into our hospitals but government and hospital management have maintained deaf ears over the years.
Go to many of these government hospitals, you'll see that there's a total shortage of both clinical and non-clinical staff in these hospitals, yet when incidents like the one in question happens, the few staff on ground are expected to become superhumans and do even jobs they are not employed to do.
I don't blame the nurse! Government should devise a means to increase employment of staff into these hospitals! You don't just employ a few hands and expect them to burn themselves out on top of the chicken change they're getting paid.

In my own opinion, i dont see the need for them to be armed. On a normal day, every Nigerian with licenced weapon feels untouchable.

I use the airtel unlimited 20 plan with an ODU and I get a seamless experience. Streaming, browsing and downloads in a breeze. I guess user experiences differ.
