This is exactly why many of you polytechnic leavers are hardly employable. You couldn't even read a simple thing I wrote with understanding yet you want to compete with an intelligent and smart B.Sc holder who will floor you easily because you are too emotional and without logic.

Where did I say I went to polytechnic or polytechnic had any affect on my life?

You will not be able to talk to me if you saw me on real life. I have have held deputy rector in a diploma awarding institution under NBTE and that is an active academic position just because I have a B.Sc in Electrical engineering and an M.Sc in telecommunications engineering plus experience.

Can you register COREN or NSE with your HND? Can you legally be called an engineer with HND?
Can you register an engineering company with HND?

Even those that go for the PGD are still being seriously discriminated at not to talk of HND.

You claimed B.Sc is not a threat to polytechnic yet all the top directors of NBTE are all university graduates. All the rectors and senior lecturers in the polytechnics are all university products. I know this because I have been involved in training so many polytechnic leavers.
Boy, rest.

If you are what you claim to be, you wont be posting this nonsense.

I give it to arsenal fans they are freaking loyal...

Most of the other clubs have supporters that just port and re-port to different clubs when things aren't going their way.

They just rotate amongst different clubs and do so either subtly or outrightly.

Not arsenal fans. Imagine being loyal to a club for over 20 years with so many heart breaks, near success syndrome in-between and yabis from other club supporters.

When it comes to loyalty give it up for arsenal fans abeg!
Then where do you put Liverpool fans?

Your lost it when you start arguing without knowledge.

You misunderstood me completely because I don't hate polytechnic in any way after all I am a I am a product of the polytechnic in a way since my father was a product of the polytechnic and he used the money he made with his polytechnic certificate to train all his children to university.

I will forever be greatfull to my late father for not allowing any of his children to go to the polytechnic. The problem with people like you is trying to paint a false narrative and I always laugh because things are far from what you are saying.

That being said. I will never advise anyone to go to polytechnic at all but if they already had polytechnic certificates I advise them to go for professional programmes to upgrade their skills and employability. I have trained many polytechnic guys and some are doing very well now. But no matter how well they do, they are always behind the B.Sc counterparts
What do you know about knowledge? If polytechnic education messed you up, should we then mess ourselves up because of your tragedy?

A HND with distinction or upper credit and professional certification is still of high value to technical and technological fields. BSc isn't a threat to it.

You are a child so I dont blame your exuberance.
TV/MoviesMovie Awards: Difference Between AMVCA And AMAA by SonOfEl(op): 5:50am On May 10
The Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA) and Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) are both prestigious African film awards, but they differ in focus: AMVCA (hosted by MultiChoice) prioritizes popular viewership and glitz, while AMAA focuses on jury-selected artistic excellence.

Key Differences:

Focus & Selection: AMVCA combines fan voting with industry jury decisions for popular TV and film, making it a high-glitz, commercial celebration. AMAA is widely regarded as focusing on the most technical and artistic excellence, similar to a traditional film academy award.

Scope & Scale: AMVCA is deeply tied to MultiChoice/Africa Magic platforms, focusing on content available on their platforms, whereas AMAA covers the entire continent and the black diaspora, covering a broader scope.

Vibe: AMVCA is heavily associated with intense red carpet glamour, fashion, and social media buzz, often resembling a large-scale entertainment event.

Event Frequency & Timing: AMVCA has established a consistent annual slot around March/May in Lagos. AMAA also holds annually, often viewed as the older or more traditional award.

Both awards have become crucial for celebrating Pan-African filmmakers and actors, acting as major milestones for industry talent.

In many industry circles, the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) is indeed considered more "Oscar-like" because of its structural and philosophical similarities to the Academy Awards.

While both are frequently called the "African Oscars," here is why AMAA usually wins that specific comparison:

1. The "Academy" Model

AMAA: Uses a strict, non-public jury system made up of film professionals and critics from around the world. This mirrors the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), where industry peers—not the general public—select winners based on technical and artistic skill.

AMVCA: Although it has transitioned many categories to jury-led decisions, its roots and identity remain tied to public voting (Viewers' Choice). Critics often argue that this rewards popularity and social media clout over pure cinematic quality.

2. Geographic & Creative Scope

AMAA: Focuses on the entire African continent and the global African diaspora (including the Caribbean and South America).

AMVCA: While expanding, it is primarily a platform for content aired on MultiChoice/Africa Magic channels, making it more of a corporate-backed "industry" award than a universal academy.

3. Technical Rigor

AMAA: Prioritizes "behind-the-scenes" excellence with deep technical categories that haven't changed much since its inception in 2005.

AMVCA: Is often viewed as a glamour-first event. It is widely celebrated for its "American Gala-style" red carpet and fashion, which some say makes it feel more like the Golden Globes than the Oscars.

In short, if you value critical acclaim and pan-African unity, AMAA is your Oscar equivalent. If you value prestige, production value, and cultural buzz, the AMVCA currently holds that crown.

Hahaha.. grin

I knew you were just arguing for argument sake because immideately I mentioned professional skills, you quickly googled and started mentioning the common and popular ones.

So what is stopping a B.Sc and M.Sc holder in engineering from acquiring those professional skills and still lording over your HND who has professional skills. There is absolutely no escape for your HND people in any field as they will forever be lorded over by B.Sc holder.

I am in a highly specialised field with deep professional skills and I head and direct mostly B.Sc holders who have professional skills. No HND who has professional skills reports directly to me because they are too far behind me in rank. It is very very easy for me my B.Eng and M.Sc in engineering to get to management level in any organisation I work where as your HND and his skills will not have that opportunity. Even the young ladies working in any organisation will always prefer the B.Sc holder for relationships before your HND holders.
This is puerile and shallow of you.

If you know you know.

Which Dangote are you talking about?

Don't even mention Dangote at all. Did your HND friends at Dangote lie to you or what? Didn't you HND friends at Dangote tell you the difference in renumeration and other benefits between B.Sc and HND?
You make me laugh that you mentioned Dangote company.

Same Dangote that has different career paths for B.Sc and HND grin

Guy, you are just arguing for argument sake. I was born into engineering household and I grew up in that field. I have three other brothers with degrees in engineering and I can only laugh at your rak ignorance.

To be frank, I was expecting you to mention certain professional skills where polytechnic guys have been able to reduce the gap but your ignorance didn't help you to know this areas instead you went and mentioned core engineering companies like Dangote where NSE and COREN are being used to slap and maltreate HNDs on a steady
grin
From your post, it is obvious that you are young (perhaps gen z). No one will contest what I have said with regards to HND graduates (with distinction or upper credits) having HA
CCP certification, holding jobs with fair salaries in Dangote Sugar Company, Promasidor, Cadbury, NBC, Crown Flour Mills, etc in the 2000s up to even the 2010s.

You know nothing of the discrimination which is why you are talking like this. I can never advise my worst enemy to go to polytechnic for any reason.

The discrimination is 100% there even at B.Sc and HND level and it will remain there.

FYI, my late dad had OND in mechanical engineering from Kaduna polytechnic and he swore that none of his children will ever go to the polytechnic so I know what I am saying when I say people like you have no idea what you are talking about
Lmao....

Dude, rest. Not every story is like yours. I wonder why your dad had to stop in ND, why not HND?

I know people with Distinction and Upper Credit with a HND who got plum jobs in Dangote sugar company as well as other food industries.

Maybe today's HND is no longer good enough, back then in the 2000s, it was still a force to reckon with in terms of delivery and value.

I was in the best polytechnic and one of the best universities in Nigeria. I studied engineering. Just dead the matter if you've not attended both. The skills you talk about is a big hoax. You have to have been in both to understand.
In my case, I agree with the guy. I studied both in poly and uni. I studied Food Science and Technology. Those in the food and beverage industry will understand the immense contribution and value of the HND input in the industry.

Loools. Na so dem dey washy us the time wedey polytechnic oo. Thank God I went to uniben and saw the difference. Practicals constrain you to the ecosystem of the designers intentions, schemes, scope and even capability, the theory makes you the designer it self. University is broader in scope and exposure.
As for me polytechnic training gave me a better standing over BSc graduates who had no polytechnic experience.

I always feel sorry for you and your kind.

I have a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and masters degree in telecommunications engineering and it beats my imagination that a polytechnic guy thinks he knows engineering more.

If only you knew how polytechnic guys are being maltreated in the field of engineering you will feel sorry for them
I also have a masters degree.

The issue here is between HND and BSC, not Masters or PhD.

Yes ploy holders are being discriminated at by insecure university grads in the industry suffering from main character syndrome. Unbiased industries actually treat HND graduates fairly.
Educational ServicesRe: Difference Between Polytechnic And Universities In Nigeria. by SonOfEl(m): 11:59am On May 09

Note: Universities are research based and not only theory. In furtherance to this, a theory is the highest level of scientific understanding. A few Polytechnics offers medical related courses.

Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin, Kwara State
Medical Imaging, Health Information Management (newly approved by NBTE)

Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun State
Medical Lab Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Paramedics, Health Information Management, Environmental Health, Dental Technology, Community Health
Research you said? Lmao..... Research is in a state of coma in Nigeria. So all the BSc graduates does is to scramble for jobs meant for HND grads.

HND isn't contesting with MSc or PhD graduates. Its with the BSc ones.

I attended one of the best Polytechnics in Nigeria - where I earned a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
I proceeded to pursue a Bachelor's degree & Master's degree at a reputable Federal University in Nigeria.

From a man who has experienced it all first-hand, it is baseless comparing the two education systems. The goal of each system are completely different.

In the Polytechnic for engineering programs (when I was a student), all your Engineering courses are graded like this:
- Examination: 60%
- Practicals: 20%
- Continuous Assessment: 20%
For you to get an A in my school then, you need an overall score of 75% or more, some Polytechnics adopted 80% back then. It is lesser in the University, all you need is just 70% or more.

The focus on structured practicals gives you ample exposure to real life scenarios.

On the other hand, the University Education graded all courses like this:
- Examination : 70%
- Continuous Assessment : 30%
- A dedicated course on practical which is graded similarly.

While the Polytechnic Education trains you to be a handy man, the University trains you to be more!
The exposure in the University Education is broader. In Nigerian Universities; You get to do GES/GST/GNS courses in Sociology (Nigerian People & Culture), Philosophy (Logic & Philosophy), ICT and the likes. Whereas in the Polytechnic (when I was there), the GNS was just Citizenship Education, Use of English and Use of Library; which is apparently limited.
I read more books in my 3years HND-B.Eng conversion program, than I read in ND & HND program combined, despite doing over 50% similar courses.

Emphasis are less on research in the Polytechnic as compared to that of University.

These systems are not meant for same purpose. If you want to choose, choose the one that best meet your needs; Polytechnic Education focuses on preparing you to be a hands-on personnel, while the University focuses on preparing you to manage or give direction to hands-on personnel.

Lastly, giving my 13years+ work experience in the Nigerian Labour Market, I strongly recommend a University Education.
I attended one of the best polytechnics (if not the best) in Nigeria around the early 2000s. I studied Food Technology, with my 1-year industrial training being at NAFDAC Central Laboratory in Oshodi Lagos. These trainings gave me industrial leverage over the MSc counterparts after I moved to a university for a BSc. In other words, I was getting jobs MSc graduates were scrambling for. Food industries rooted for my technical expertise in PRACTICAL food production and quality assurance.

Let me shock you. During my NAFDAC training. I and my fellow polytechnic colleague were applauded for our dexterity in reagent standardization and laboratory analysis on Food samples. Several university students got insecure about this and began projecting their theoretical knowledge. Lol....okay, Mr theoretical, handle your sample and apparatus like a true expert. For where.....? Lol.

My Polytechnic foundation gave me an edge over university's theoretical approach. BSc 6 month IT can not beat a polytechnic's 4 month initial IT and 1 year final IT. Never.
